What You Eat Affects How You Sleep

If you could pick the right foods to help you get the best sleep possible, wouldn't you?

And if you knew which foods would hinder your restful slumber, wouldn't you avoid them?

Now's your chance to learn which foods to eat, and which to steer clear of for a good night's sleep.

Reach for Tryptophan-Rich Foods

We've all heard of warm milk's magical ability to send us off to dreamland. Do you know why it's true? Dairy foods contain tryptophan, which is a sleep-promoting amino-acid. Other foods that are high in tryptophan include nuts and seeds, bananas, honey, and eggs.

Indulge Your Craving for Carbs

Carbohydrate-rich foods complement dairy foods by increasing the level of sleep-inducing tryptophan in the blood. So a few perfect late night snacks to get you snoozing might include a bowl of cereal and milk, yogurt and crackers, or bread and cheese.

Have a Snack Before Bedtime

If you struggle with insomnia, a little food in your stomach may help you sleep. But don't use this as an open invitation to pig out. Keep the snack small. A heavy meal will tax your digestive system, making you uncomfortable and unable to get soothing ZZZs.

Put Down the Burger and Fries!

As if you needed another reason to avoid high-fat foods, research shows that people who often eat high-fat foods not only gain weight, they also experience a disruption of their sleep cycles. A heavy meal activates digestion, which can lead to night time trips to the bathroom.

Beware of Hidden Caffeine

It's no surprise that an evening cup of coffee might disrupt your sleep. Even moderate caffeine can cause sleep disturbances. But don't forget about less obvious caffeine sources, like chocolate, cola, tea, and decaffeinated coffee. For better sleep, cut all caffeine from your diet four to six hours before bedtime.

Medications May Contain Caffeine

Some over-the-counter and prescription drugs contain caffeine, too, such as pain relievers, weight loss pills, diuretics, and cold medicines. These and other medications may have as much or even more caffeine than a cup of coffee.

Check the label of non-prescription drugs or the prescription drug information sheet to see if your medicine interferes with sleep or can cause insomnia.

Skip the Nightcap

Here's the catch-22 with alcohol: It may help you fall asleep faster, but you may experience frequent awakenings, less restful sleep, headaches, night sweats and nightmares.

If you're drinking alcohol in the evening, balance each drink with a glass of water to dilute the alcohol's effects. For a good night's sleep, the better bet is to avoid alcohol four to six hours before bedtime.

Beware of Heavy, Spicy Foods

Lying down with a full belly can make you uncomfortable, since the digestive system slows down when you sleep. It can also lead to heartburn, as can spicy cuisine. Make sure to finish a heavy meal at least four hours before bedtime.

Keep Protein to a Minimum at Bedtime

Sorry Atkins. Protein, an essential part of our daytime fare, can be a poor choice for a bedtime snack. Protein-rich, high-fat foods are harder to digest. So skip the fatty high-protein snack before bedtime and opt for a glass of warm milk or some sleep-friendly carbs, like crackers.

Cut the Fluids by 8 P.M.

Yes, staying hydrated throughout the day is great for your body, but curtail your fluid intake before bed. You're sure to have interrupted sleep if you're constantly getting up to go to the bathroom.

Don't Be Fooled by a Relaxing Smoke

Nicotine is a stimulant, with effects similar to caffeine. Avoid smoking altogether and especially before bedtime or if you wake up in the middle of the night.

HealthTea Can Prevent Stroke by Emmylo14(op): 9:06am On Oct 27, 2017
Tea Can Prevent Stroke

By: Emmanuel Okoli

Have you ever been told that drinking tea regularly can reduce your risk of having stroke ?

Studies have shown that there was a 13% lower risk of stroke among tea drinkers.

But there are different types of tea. So the question now is what type of tea can reduce the risk of having stroke ?

WHAT TYPE OF TEA?

Though over 100 varieties of tea exist and it's just too obvious that it's not all of them can reduce the risk of stroke.

Researchers have not actually pin-point any particular variety of to be responsible for reducing the risk of stroke.

Though, results of smaller researches suggested that green tea consumption was associated with a decreased stroke rate but that black tea consumption was not.

WHAT AMOUNT IS SUFFICIENT?

The effect of tea on stroke risk is a long-term effect one.

Studies have shown that there was noticeable decline in stroke risk among people who drink 3 cups of tea per day.

While no noticeable decline in stroke risk among participants who only occasionally drank tea.

WHY DO TEA REDUCE STROKE RISK?

Antioxidants. Many types of tea contain some antioxidants.

A Study have shown people with no history of stroke or any CVD (cardiovascular diseases) who consumed the highest amount of antioxidants in foods such as fruit, vegetables, tea, whole grains, and chocolate had 20% fewer strokes than those who ate the least amount.

Among women with a history of CVD, those who consumed the most antioxidants had 45% fewer hemorrhagic strokes.

The study suggests that eating a diet rich in antioxidants, especially from fruits and vegetables, may be of importance for stroke prevention.

Antioxidants are more concentrated in tea that is produced with natural tea leaves or natural fruits (e.g. Mango).

The caffeinated varieties of tea also have some different stroke-fighting properties of their own.

Caffeine in moderate amounts is beneficial for the blood flow and blood vessels, and can, therefore, help prevent stroke in people who do not have problems with high blood pressure.

SOME TYPES OF TEA CAN DO THE OPPOSITE

LMNA is a gene that codes for a structural protein called prelamin A.
Under normal conditions there is a farnesyl functional group which attaches to the carboxyl-terminus of the protein structure.

The farnesyl group allows prelamin A to attach temporarily to the nuclear rim. Once the protein is attached, the farnesyl group is removed. Without its farnesyl group, prelamin A is referred to as lamin A.

Lamin A, along with lamin B and lamin C, makes up the nuclear lamina, which provides structural support to the nucleus.

But under abnormal conditions the farnesyl group remain attached to the prolamin A making it to permanently affix to the nuclear rim which result to abnormally formed Lamin A called Progerin responsible for premature aging.

This abnormaity was discovered to be due to a point mutation in position 1824 of the LMNA gene, in which C (cytosine) is replaced with T (thymine).

This mutation creates a 5' cryptic splice site within exon 11, resulting in an abnormally short mature mRNA transcript.

This mRNA strand, when translated, yields an abnormal variant of the

*Accept It and Move On*

"Getting knocked down in life is a given. Getting up and moving forward is a choice" - Zig Ziglar

Today I will like talk about something very important in life. Something that have withheld the success of many people in life.

That's the ability to accept failure and move on with life. Some people find it difficult to concede failure in life, that why when they eventually fail the failure ties them down.

When I use the word "FAILURE"  it includes mistakes also.

You see in life failure is inevitable,  at one point in life one must encounter failure, yes! that's not a problem, the problem is you conceding the failure and move on with life.

If you can't accept failure in life then your success will be limited. You wouldn't be able to accomplish a lot of things in life.

All successful people in this world are those who concede failure and move on with life.

Failure in life is unavoidable but conceding failure and moving on with life is a choice you must make to reach your destination in life.

Just imagine the scenario where you are walking to school on a slippy Road and you slipped and fall,  if you accept failure, you will stand up and keep walking till you reach your destination which is your school.

But if you don't accept failure you will probably start transferring the blames to someone probably a by-passer. Such will only delay you time and may eventually hinder your journey.

You can see that failure is a part of us it must surely come to us and we just have to accept it and move on with life.

It doesn’t matter how many times you failed what matters is you conceding failure and move on (continue struggling) till you get what you want.

During the Nigeria civil war, the attempts of the Nigerian troops to invade Onitsha failed three times it was

Health5 Reasons Why Women Live Longer Than Men by Emmylo14(op): 7:58am On Oct 13, 2016
"Women on average live anywhere from 5 to 10 years longer than men".

Many factors determine the life expectancy differences between men and women.

Men have higher tendency to get involved in risky and violent behaviour than women.

For instance more men die in war, rival clashes, reprisal attacks than women.

However, majority factors that influence life expectancy are of genetic composition.

Women typically live longer than men because of their genes.

Below are some of factors that influence life expectancy difference between men and women:

1. Sex Hormones

Male sex hormones increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases while of female does the opposite.

Male and female gonads produce sex hormones necessary for the growth and development of primary and secondary reproductive organs.

The male sex hormone "testosterone" raises levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) cholesterol which increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

*Harmful Effects of Soda Drinks (Cancer)*

According to recent Statistics conducted by health researchers, It shows that soda is now the most commonly consumed beverage, accounting for more than a quarter of all drinks that are sold in the U.S.

For instance, in 2000, there were more than 50 billion gallons sold in the U.S. , which means that every man, woman, or a child consumed around 12-ounce can each day.

The problem here is that these drinks are associated with a number of health problems, and medical experts strongly recommend that sodas should be avoided at any cost.
