Autos / Big Buttocks Remains A Major Cause Of Road Traffic Crashes In Nigeria by EmmyMaestro(m): 7:59pm On May 04 |
Big Buttocks Remains A Major Cause Of Road Traffic Crashes In Nigeria — Says Concerned Bachelors When we think of road traffic crashes in Nigeria, the usual causes that come to mind are speeding, drunk driving, wrong overtaking, poor road conditions and road unworthiness of the vehicles involved (such as tyre bursts, brake failure, etc). However, there is a less conventional factor that deserves clear attention: Big Buttocks. Although, this may sound humorous at first, the reality is that the phenomenon poses a serious risk on our roads in this country. As we may know, this a complex issue that intertwines cultural aesthetics, societal expectations, and the distractions they may cause to drivers (Ọkada and Keke drivers also inclusive). In Nigeria and even in many other countries, big buttocks are celebrated and highly admired as a mark of beauty and attractiveness of a woman/lady. This high admiration undoubtedly creates an unintended distraction on the roads, as it is usually uncommon for some drivers, especially men, not to look, admire or be momentarily distracted by (walking or roadside standing) ladies adorned with such pronounced features, especially those who their own are eyely and apparent. Unarguably, some of these ladies deliberately and strategically position, swing or dangle these buttocks along the road to attract attention, knowing or without knowing the resultant effects of what they are doing. This reporter has discovered that part of the primary dangers posed by big buttocks in traffic is the distraction they can create for drivers; and when these drivers take their eyes off the road to observe or admire, even for just a few seconds, the risk of a crash significantly increases. The reporter, also a concerned bachelor, took time to interview some shuttle bus drivers and tricycle operators in Awka metropolis, including Chibuike Anosike (popular known as Mmiri), Jude Chukwukwa (Star Boy), Emmanuel Enukora, and Nnamdi Agwuncha, who recounted personal experiences of how big buttocks had diverted their focus while on steering. As for the effects, while two of them reported swerving off the road, one other said he brushed an oncoming vehicle, while the other had a tale of a near-miss with some school children whom he nearly crushed while they were crossing road at Ifite behind the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Although these accounts might sound lighthearted, they underscore a serious safety concern. In addition to road traffic crashes, big buttocks also cause traffic gridlock (hold-up or go-slow) on the road in many ways. It is good to note that crashes or hold-ups caused by distraction from big buttocks are usually not attributed to them by traffic wardens, whom themselves are even sometimes distracted by the same thing, thereby causing them to look focus or mis-control a vehicle with its resultant effects. Deliberately or indeliberately, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reports rarely cite distractions caused by big buttocks as an accident cause, probably because they were not there when the accident happened, because the eyewitness account did not capture it, or because such issue is not considered an official traffic violation. By this, will it not be helpful for government to recognize dangling of big buttocks along the road as a serious traffic offence and a threat to public safety? The concerned authority may need to give this a thought. More research is needed to quantify and establish the impact of this issue. FRSC could explore collection of data on the role of distractions caused by big buttocks in crashes. This data would help inform targeted interventions. The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) of Ghana is already considering a study on similar issue. This reporter made attempts to get the views of the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, CC Adeoye Irelewuyi, on the matter, which proved abortive, as he did not pick his call or respond to the text message sent to him to that effect. Notwithstanding the sensitivity surrounding the topic, raising such awareness as this publication and others is also very crucial. Drivers must recognize that any distraction, including the allure of big buttocks, can have serious consequences. By noting these dangers of being distracted by big buttocks, drivers can work towards reducing its impact on road safety, probably by looking just once and then focusing back on their driving, or by even not looking at all; after all that glitters is not gold. 1 Like

She then proceeded to share how she met a keke driver at her mother's shop and teased him about being fine. Crime / How CSP Abaniwonda Led Sting Operation At Otedola Bridge & Busted Armed Robbery by EmmyMaestro(m): 10:14am On May 04 |
The Divisional Police Officer, Alausa Division, CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, has demonstrated outstanding bravery by leading a sting operation at night at the Otedola bridge and busting armed robbery kingpin, Tochuckwu Nonso, 29, a.k.a ThugLife. P.M.EXPRESS reports that CSP Abaniwonda displayed rare gallantry just after two months she resumed as the DPO, Alausa Division. The incessant incidences of armed robbery at the bridge had been a challenge for commuters and passersby over a period and she decided to end such within the Alausa, Ikeja axis. CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda knew the risks involved but the desire to serve humanity and save lives moved her into action. She was said to have mobilized her Police officers and hired a 14-seater commercial bus, which they used. They moved to the bridge around 10pm in an undercover mission to end incidences of armed robbery under the bridge. According to Police sources, when they got to the black spot under the bridge, the driver deliberately stopped the bus under the instruction of CSP Abaniwonda, who came out and pretended to be making calls to get attention of their target-Thuglife and his gang members, who were hiding under the bridge tunnel and it paid off. While CSP Abaniwonda was making calls expressing disappointment about the breakdown of their vehicle, the robbery kingpin, Thuglife and one of his gang members, who were watching her, came out from the tunnel under the bridge with dangerous weapons to rob the passengers. The robbery kingpin first accosted Abaniwonda to snatch her phone, which fell down while they were dragging it and she held Thuglife on his leg waiting for her officers to react. It was then that he used a cutlass, attacked her and his colleague picked her phone, which fell down and they ran back to the tunnel with her phone. During the operation, CSP Abaniwonda sustained injuries but she did not relent as she mobilized her officers and further gathered intelligence, which eventually led to the arrest of the robbery kingpin, Thuglife, alongside two other members of the gang, Chidera Christopher, 25, and Richard Etim, 25. The operation was led by Supol Alawode Adekunle and Thuglife was arrested in a bar, where he was doing medicure opposite the popular hotel, known as Super G, in Lambe area of Ogun State, where he usually lodges with the girlfriend after their robbery operations. The three suspects, Thuglife, Christopher and Etim, were arrested and detained at the Alausa Division, where they are undergoing interrogation over their criminal activities under the Otedola bridge over the years. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspects by operatives from the Alausa Division led by CSP Abaniwonda. The suspects have made confessional statements. The last sting operation was not the first time CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda had displayed such bravery and capacity as an intelligent senior Police Officer. Over the years, she had served as DPO in various Divisions and Commands in Lagos State and had demonstrated that she has capacity with less supervision. She may have ended the incidences of armed robbery operations under the Otedola bridge in Lagos State. CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda perfectly fit into the words of the great philosopher, Sidney Sheldon, who said, “My heroes are those who risk their lives everyday to protect our world and make it better – Police, Firefighters and members of Armed Forces”

Politics / Banditry Is Now ‘business Venture’ For Government Officials, Security Agencies — by EmmyMaestro(m): 9:47am On May 04 |
Banditry Is Now ‘Business Venture’ For Government Officials, Security Agencies — Katsina Governor, Radda SaharaReporters had reported cases of incidents of kidnapping and abduction by the bandits. The Katsina State governor, Dikko Radda, has revealed that some security personnel and government officials had turned the insecurity situation in Nigeria to business ventures. The governor mentioned this when he appeared on Friday’s edition of Channels TV's Politics Today, adding that this was one of the reasons why it was difficult to end the menace of banditry and insecurity generally. He said, “Now it has turned out to be a business venture. A business venture for the criminals, some people who are in government; and some people who are in security outfits, and some people who are responsible for the day-to-day activities of their people. “These are so many reasons why we are unable to bring banditry to an end.” Lately, criminal bands locally known as bandits have repeatedly attacked and ravaged rural communities in Nigeria. SaharaReporters had reported thousands of incidents of kidnapping and abduction by the bandits. President Bola Tinubu has made eliminating insecurity a priority. Many people relate the insecurity to politics. But Governor Radda claims that poverty and injustice are important motivators. The governor continued: ”The issue of the hypothesis behind political motive as responsible for banditry is not true.” According to him, many youths in the north are recruited into banditry with mere N500. As part of moves to tackle the region’s insecurity, some northern governors were on a trip to the US. Though they came under heavy criticism for the meeting with many wondering why it was not held in Nigeria, Radda has said they were only invited to the parley. “The meeting was not at the instance of the selected governors of northern states but it was at the instance of the United States Institute of Peace. They were the people who invited us; they hosted us for the meeting. We were invited to sit with them so that we could bring about lasting solutions to the problems that are affecting our people,” he said. Governor Radda said the trip gave the governors fresh insights into insecurity in the region.
