Multi-award winning Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade, has revealed the two major tribes in the country in reaction to the quit notice given the Igbos in the North.


While speaking in reaction to the ultimatum issued by Northern Coalition group ordering the Igbos to vacate the region in three months, popular singer, Yemi Eberechi Alade, simply known as Yemi Alade, said there are only two tribes in Nigeria.

According to the Johnny crooner, the two tribes in Nigeria are, ‘The elites and the masses’, adding that there are no gains in tribal disunity but bloodshed.

She wrote: “Dear Nigerians, history has never recorded any gains in disunity. Disunity only lead to blood shed, what are you fighting for.

"Just tribe tribe. There are no gains in disunity #Naija for life," she wrote, adding “The only tribes are ‘THE ELITES AND THE MASSES.’

A former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has said one of the reasons he was impeached during his administration was his refusal to inflate the government's yearly budget.

While speaking at the Nigeria Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders which took place in Lagos on Tuesday, the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, revealed that one of the reasons he was impeached during his administration was his refusal to inflate the government’s yearly budget.

Peter Obi who spoke with the theme ‘Open Governance: Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government’, said;
“Government budget should be published, each item they want to spend money on should be published so people can compare the prices government are buying their items with what it is in the market,” said Mr. Obi, who was governor between 2006 and 2014.

“I have been a victim of that because budgets are not properly articulated, it’s inflated not even padded. I was impeached in Anambra State, removed from office twice, the first one is because of this budget issue.

“They want to repair Office of the Governor, which is my office, the approved budget for 2006 was N298 million, I repaired everything with N43.2 million. They said I didn’t do it through due process, because they have awarded the contract.

“The second item was repair of the Governor’s Lodge, which is where I live, everything was N486 million, I did everything with N81 million, they said it didn’t go through due process. That is to show you how government works, they input so many roadblocks.”

Obi said politicians as well as civil servants are responsible for inflated government budgets. “I keep saying it, if the leader is not stealing, you reduce it by 75 percent. Because anybody on the line will know.

“My first experience as a governor, was about headed paper. When I arrived, they said they were going to do headed paper. Because I came from a business and a private sector, I’m a trader, so when they said to do a ream of paper that I used to buy in my office N750, they told me it’s N15,000. I said ‘Ehn! What do you mean?’ They said they even reduced it from N18,000 to N15,000.

“I said ‘can you give me the sample?’ Maybe it’s different. They gave me the sample, I called my printer and told him to do me two reams of this. He came back and said it’s N1,500 each, so for two of them it’s N3,000, instead of N30,000. From there, I issued order: ‘All government expenditure in this state as long as I stay here would be approved by me.”

Obi said part of the problem with governance in Nigeria is that government is transactional, instead of transformational. “It depends on what I’m hiding because I’m hiding something,” he said.

“When I came into office in Anambra State, there was a panel for unpaid contracts, a big panel. When I came in, I said we don’t need this panel, you said you’ve done the road, let’s go and see it. They said ‘noo no no, the panel has approved it.’ I said ‘you said you have done this road, this road is in Anambra State, let’s drive there.’

“You don’t need the panel because everybody can see it. And when we checked and said for you to execute any contract, let the community say it’s been executed before we pay you, they started agitating.”

A woman has gotten herself into more trouble than she can handle after it was found out that she had sold off her own baby.

Sandra Ishaku, a 25-year-old woman, was on Tuesday arraigned at a Jos Upper Area Court for allegedly selling her four-month-old baby for N100,000.

NAN reports that Ishaku, along with three others – Amechi Emmanuel, Jones Osim (a lawyer) and Gladys Chukwuma – were charged with conspiracy, cruelty, and child abandonment.

According to the prosecutor, Mr. L. O. Ocho, Ishaku, on May 10, 2017, sold her baby to Chukwuma for N100,000.

Ocho told the court that the transaction was carried out in Jos, in the chambers of Osim, a legal practitioner.

“Ishaku (the accused) conspired with Emmanuel and sold her baby to Chukwuma, who had just relocated from Ebonyi State to Jos,” he said.

The Presiding Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, did not take the plea of the accused, opting to remand three of them – Ishaku, Emmanuel and Chukwuma – in prison custody, while the matter was adjourned to June 1, when hearing would commence.

Mohammed, however, granted Osim bail after his counsel, Mr. Lawrence Anya, pleaded that he be released on bail to the Nigeria Bar Association Plateau State Chapter.

A similar appeal by Mr. Peter Ikeolu, counsel to the three others, had earlier been rejected after the prosecutor argued that freeing them would affect investigations into the matter.

That was then in 2011, my year one in FUTO, I can remember cleary. That fateful day I went to Owerri town from my lodge in Umuchima to withdraw money and buy some food stuffs for the month. When I landed in town, along Douglas rd. a man approached me and started asking me some few questions, as a novice and as naive as I was, I gave him all my attention with the view of helping him out.


The first question he asked me was, please where is "Control" along Douglas? (for those who have been to Owerri, you must have heard of control), willingly I directed him, as that is not enough he looked at my cloth and said "my guy why is your cloth stained with blood?", I was surprised and thought that maybe he was joking.


Again he told me to bring my hands that he'll show me something, before then I started shivering, when I brought my hands he told me that do I know that he can make a hole on my hands with his own finger, as if I was hypnotized I started begging him to spare me, immediately another guy joined him, they told me to look at my legs, when I did they told me that they will cover me with sand and immediately it felt like sand started covering my legs.


Such a thing looked like it broke my heart to the extent that I started pleading with them to save me, they said ok that they'll save me if only I give them everything I have and that if I hide anything I'll die, instantly I gave them all the money I had and they asked of my ATM, when I showed them they told me to go to any available ATM machine and withdraw all my money for my life, they gave me a spot to see them.


Fearfully and foolishly I went immediately and withdrew everything (43,000 Naira) and gave to them, when the deal is done they told me that I'll leave and varnished (You know how busy Douglas is always been). Some minutes before they left everything cleared from my eyes, I became confused and was severely stranded. I had to go back to school and start making calls for money.


So I met some few people there, explained my story, they game me 500 Naira to go back to school, from that day I don't give any second thought to answering people on the road.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman on Saturday presented Donald Trump with the Kingdom’s top civilian honor, as the US president began a trip to Riyadh aimed at strengthening security and economic ties.
The king placed the Collar of Abdulaziz Al Saud around Trump’s neck at a ceremony at the Royal Court in Riyadh.

The host of the event declared that Trump was being honored for “his quest to enhance security and stability in the region and around the world.”
The honor has also been bestowed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Prime Minister Theresa May and Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama.

Trump was joined by first lady Melania Trump and several senior White House aides who were interspersed with Saudi officials throughout a grand ballroom.
Trump landed in Saudi Arabia earlier Saturday for a historic meeting tipped to “turn the page” on US-Arab affairs after a strained relationship under the previous American administration.

The president touched down in Riyadh and was welcomed by King Salman and senior Saudi officials.
Stepping off Air Force One with his wife, Melania, Trump and his entourage received a red-carpet welcome.

After a royal banquet, Trump and the king were to have private talks and participate in a signing ceremony for a number of US-Saudi agreements, including a deal worth a reported $100 billion for Saudi Arabia to buy American arms.

National oil giant Saudi Aramco is expected to sign $50 billion of deals with US companies on Saturday, part of a drive to diversify the Kingdom’s economy beyond oil exports, Aramco’s chief executive Amin Nasser said.

Trump is to deliver a speech on Sunday aimed at rallying Muslims in the fight against terrorism. His first official foreign trip since taking office will coincide with three key summits on Saturday and Sunday, as well as several business activities, cultural, intellectual and sports celebrations.

The Saudi-US Summit, on Saturday, features a series of bilateral meetings between King Salman and Trump, and “focus on re-affirming the long-standing friendship, and strengthening the close political, economic, security and cultural bonds between the two nations.”

It will be followed Sunday by the GCC-US Summit, Arab Islamic American Summit, and the inauguration of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology.
