The Flemish Ministry of Education awards scholarships for master’s programmes in Flanders and Brussels to outstanding students from around the world. The programme aims to promote Flanders and Brussels as a top study destination.

What happens if Chelsea finish First?

If Chelsea qualify as group winners, then they can face any team that has finished second in another group.

Manchester City and Liverpool have already secured top spots in Group A and B, meaning Chelsea will not be able to play their Premier League rivals in the next round.

Paris Saint-Germain, though, is a team the Blues can be drawn against, with the French club finishing second in Group A.

In Group B, the second place is still very much up for grabs, with Porto, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid still able to qualify for the last 16.

Ajax have won Group C, meaning Chelsea would not be facing the Dutch giants. Sporting Lisbon are currently in second, three points ahead of Borussia Dortmund, who would need a 10-goal swing in order to be level with the Portuguese outfit.

In Group D, Real Madrid are currently sitting pretty at the top on 12 points, while Inter Milan, who have also qualified, are on 10 points.

The two square off on Tuesday night at the Bernabeu Stadium. Carlo Ancelotti’s side only need a draw to guarantee first place, but Inter will be confident that they can come away with all three points...

Since arriving to Chelsea from PSG, the talented and world class Defender has been spectacular in his games at his new club; Chelsea. And there have been speculations by fans for his contract extension in Chelsea, since despite his age, Silva has been tactical and swift in his games and put in his best on every match he has played in.

According to football.london, Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva has been praised as “special” by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand – and he certainly proved him right in the first half of the clash against West Ham.


Silva, 37, has come in for a lot of praise in recent weeks for his performances for the Blues, impressing many with his calmness at the back mixed with his passing range to pick out players from the defensive line.

He scored Chelsea’s opening goal against West Ham with a free header from a corner, hitting the ball into the ground to loop over Lukasz Fabianski. He then made an outstanding goal-line block to deny the Hammers equalising just seconds later.

The Brazil international joined in 2020 from PSG, where he played under current Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel. The Blues picked him up on a free transfer on a one-year deal, but shortly extended that by another year until summer 2022.

There are calls from some that he should get a contract extension, with ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole weighing in on the discussion on BT Sport before the game: “There is a lot of youthfulness, aggressive, fantastic players around him [Thiago Silva] and he has been a fantastic signing and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be given another year deal because he’s been outstanding the last few seasons.”

Rio Ferdinand also went on to analyse the defender, claiming he knew he was “special” when he faced him in a game: “We watched him [Thiago Silva] live against Leicester and he was wearing velvet slippers and he had a cigar in the 90 minutes, he was fabulous.

“He can play, I played against him when he was at AC Milan and I thought ‘Wow, this guy is gonna be absolutely special’ and here, normally you’d see a centre-half just play the ball out here, safe, maybe play it into the midfield there and just keep the ball ticking over.

Many are speculating that Conte was to be the first choice of managerial job at Manchester United should Solskjaer be sacked earlier.
Solskjaer kept his job at Old Trafford despite a record-breaking 5-0 home defeat against Liverpool, with Conte signing up at Spurs soon after.

It took two more humiliating losses against Manchester City and Watford for Solskjaer to finally be relieved of his duties, but by then Conte was already under employment in north London.

Antonio Conte may be regretting joining Tottenham and not waiting for Manchester United, according to a man who played for both sides.

Premier League and Serie A winning manager Conte was the bookies’ favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back at the start of November, but clearly became impatient.

Although, it’s possible that he may be having some regrets, with a 2-1 Europa Conference League loss to Slovenian minnows NS Mura showing the Italian just how big a job he has at hand.

“At this moment the level at Tottenham is not so high,” Conte candidly admitted post-match.

The former Spurs and United striker, as well as legendary talkSPORT host, Alan Brazil, believes Conte must be feeling some regret.

“Conte, he’ll never admit it, but he must be saying why didn’t I just wait,” Brazil said.

“Why didn’t I just wait. I’d now be standing on the touchline at Old Trafford.

Gareth Southgate has signed another agreement to keep him in the job until December 2024.
Southgate, whose past agreement was set to pursue the 2022 winter World Cup in Qatar, has been supervisor of the public side since November 2016.

He drove England to the last of Euro 2020 – their best men’s presentation in 55 years – in July.

“It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team. We have a great opportunity in front of us,” he said.

Southgate will oversee England’s progress at next year’s World Cup, which runs from 21 November-18 December, and the qualification stages for Euro 2024, with the tournament taking place from 14 June-14 July.

Assistant manager Steve Holland has also agreed a new deal through to the end of 2024.


“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players and support team for their hard work,” Southgate said.

“I know they and the fans are all excited about what this squad could achieve in future.”

Southgate at first took over as overseer director from Sam Allardyce in September 2016 preceding being selected forever two months after the fact.

He drove England to the World Cup semi-finals without precedent for 28 years in 2018.

Previous Barcelona star Xavi is set to take over as the club’s Manager with Al Sadd saying they have consented to permit him to join the Spanish Heros.
The Qatari club had initially said their 41-year-old boss would not be permitted to leave.

Xavi, who played 779 matches and dominated 25 titles with Barca, had said openly that he trusted “to return home” as Barca chief and that an arrangement could be reached.

Al Sadd says Barca have paid the delivery condition in Xavi’s agreement.

The World Cup and double cross European Championship-winning previous Spain international left Barcelona for Al Sadd in 2015, first joining the club as a player.


The reason Xavi will be the next Barcelona boss – despite president’s uncertainty.
He took over as head coach after retiring in 2019 and led them to last season’s league title. They are unbeaten in 36 league games.

The Qatari club tweeted that Xavi “is an important part of Al Sadd’s history” and wished him success in the future.


“The administration has agreed on Xavi’s move to Barcelona after the payment of the release clause stipulated in the contract,” the club posted on Twitter. “We’ve agreed on cooperation with Barcelona in the future.”

Since Barcelona sacked Ronald Koeman on 27 October, Xavi has been heavily linked with a return to the Nou Camp where he spent the majority of his illustrious playing career.

Barcelona are ninth in La Liga after winning only four of their opening 11 games, leaving them nine points adrift of leaders Real Sociedad.


“Xavi informed us a few days ago of his desire to go to Barcelona at this particular time, because of the critical stage his hometown club is going through, and we understand this and decided not to stand in his way,” said Al Sadd chief executive Turki Al-Ali.

Manchester City took a big step towards the last-16 of the Champions League by claiming a second successive victory over Belgian champions Club Brugge, winning 4-1 at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

Phil Foden’s opener (15) was immediately cancelled out by John Stones’ bizarre own goal (17), but Riyad Mahrez’s header restored City’s lead (54).

Man City weren’t at their best, perhaps at 50 or 60 per cent, and while the defensive vulnerability that led to three Brugge shots on target in the opening period will give Manchester United confidence, this was without Ruben Dias who will return at the weekend.

The manager wasn’t happy at half-time and you have to take his advice,’ Foden said. ‘He changed things and we were much better in the second half. Once we got our rhythm the chances started opening up.

This is coming after Chelsea won comfortably over Newcastle last weekend.

After a dull first half, Chelsea eventually wore down a somewhat resilient Newcastle team through an outstanding weak-footed finish from Reece James to go 1-0 up. From there, the flood gates opened and a second Reece James goal all but compounded Newcastle’s fate.

Shortly after, Kai Havertz was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded to Chelsea. At this point, a debate broke out on social media as to who should take this penalty. Considering Reece James was on for a hat-trick, some wanted Jorginho to hand the opportunity over to James who, hopefully, would have secured all three points with all three goals.

This, however, did not happen. Jorginho opted to take the penalty and dispatched with the consistent precision we have all come to expect of him as would have Frank Lampard or Eden Hazard in the past. Nonetheless, the debate raged on, eventually evolving into who should be the regular penalty taker for Chelsea, if and when everyone is back to full fitness.

Based on Chelsea’s victory over Newcastle, I think it is of little importance who took the penalty. Jorginho, as Captain and normal penalty taker, is well within his rights to take the penalty, which he did. On the other hand, I understand why there was a reasonably large demand for Reece James to take it in order to complete his hat-trick.

Thomas Tuchel says: "I am of the belief that the striker should typically be taking penalties, especially a striker who cost the fee that Romelu Lukaku did. Lukaku has been the penalty taker for various clubs he has played for as well as for his national team, and the difference between 17 non-penalty goals in a league season, and 21 league goals including penalties is fairly substantial".
