NYSCRe: First Class Graduates To Serve In Tertiary Institutions -NYSC by engrsoma(m): 5:59pm On Jul 22, 2015
peeta89:
It's a good idea though. But on the other hand most people with first class degree cram to pass so how will they impact knowledge into their various students when they are posted to universities for their primary assignments.

First class degree is not a yard stick for ones intelligence and brilliance.

My opinion though.
in the real world, intelligence is just a fraction of what you need.

To make first class, you must have determination, a zeal to succeed, and you must maintain this throughout your 5 or 4 years of learning, which is perseverance.

First class may not be a yard stick for success, but atleast you are employing an individual with the characteristics mentioned above.

if most of the first class crams, why didn't those with 2:1 cram to make it also since they know beforehand the discrimination in the job market?

Education10 Reasons Why You Should Not Have Girlfriend In College by engrsoma(op): 10:57pm On Jul 18, 2015
For every guy having a girlfriend is more or less a status symbol. They think that carrying a relationship in college in quite cool and funky. But besides this thinking, they get to ignore the problems which are always come along with relationship. Carrying a relation is not at all easy it has both pros and cons. But the dark side of the link ups is always avoided by the youngsters. This article will take you to the dark side of having a relationship and thus through this article you will get to know the disadvantage to having a relationship. So here we have the list of top 10 disadvantages of having a girlfriend. And one should consider these disadvantages also while he is planning to get into a relationship.

10. DISTRACTION
Having a girlfriend is a big time attraction. You will always busy in impressing her in one way or the other and that will result in distraction from your studies. College is a place from where your career starts. College is the first step towards your career and in this if you are going to pay your attention more towards other non productive activities, then it’s a great loss to your career. Not only this if you had a fight with your girlfriend then your whole day will be spoiled because of your bad mood and then if you have a particular time table regarding studies then it will be totally disturbed.

9. RISK OF BAD REPUTATION AT BREAK UP
If you have a link up then there is also a probability of having breakup. It always happen that guys tend to go through or continue with a bad relationship because they have a risk of reputation at breakup. College all together is a new place for you, where you had a formal meet with everyone. You are no more a kid so now even a single mistake of yours can risk your reputation at stake. It’s really hard to make a good reputation and it takes seconds to destroy it. So if your partner is loud and upset from you because of breakup then may be in obsession she can create many fake rumours regarding in order to take revenge or something.

8. PATIENCE
A lot of patience is required if you are in a relationship with the girl. And usually guys do not have the level of required patience at this age. Since it needs a lot of patience in handling a girl and guys do not have the patience which is required. So because of this imbalance it always results in an unsuccessful relationship. And an unsuccessful relationship makes the mind of the guy more distracted.

7. SELF-BURDEN
When a guy has a girlfriend in college he is said to be over- burdened. At college level a guy already has so many responsibilities and carrying all those responsibilities along with a relationship create a mess. So it is better not to carry a burden of any redundant relationship which makes you over-burdened.

6. INFATUATIONS
College link ups are just a complete set of infatuation. They seem to be real but they not real. In college level youngsters consider their infatuations as love and get in a relationship. Youngsters think that the infatuations through which they are going through is true love and so they start dreaming about their future with their partner. And when these future dreams which are quite mesmerizing to them break they get shattered.
5. POSSESSIVENESS
Possessiveness is the most basic and major problem which is faced by a couple in a relationship. Possessiveness can be from either the sides. No matter from which side it is, the mishaps happen. Possessiveness is something when your companion considers you to be his own property an when anyone comes towards you they react to it. Because of possessiveness you cannot make friends who can help you. If you have a girlfriend then your girlfriend will put you in restrictions like not talking to another girl and many more, just because she considers you her personal property and because of this you tend to lose your current friends who were a great support to you.

4. FREEDOM
Having a girlfriend is also a big time compromise with your freedom. If you are relationship then it may happen that your girlfriend will try to your mother. There by restricting you to do all such things which are related to your own freedom and your own space like late night parties etc.

3. MONEY ISSUES
It is obvious and a very common fact which says that a boyfriend save for his girlfriend during college years every student get a pocket money from their parents to accomplish their general necessities. So for a college student it becomes an issue to spend on his girlfriend with an optimum amount of pocket money. Here just to save money for his girlfriend he cuts off his basic necessities and start saving for his girlfriend. In this case he tends to ignore himself therefore degrading his own personality just to see his companion happy. Since it is very difficult to manage in small amount pocket money the guy has to suffer a lot in saving money very month there by compromising with his own demand.

2. MENTAL PRESSURE
Having a girl friend in college might be a status symbol for a guy but along with the status symbol it is a real mental pressure too. In a relationship both the individuals have high expectations from each other and if one flunk to reach the required standard of expectations which his partner has expected then misunderstandings occur. So to avoid misunderstanding keeping a correct track of expectations is necessary which is again a headache for an individual. These kinds of situations create mental pressure on a guy and make him more irritated and distracted as well. And if you are not in any relationship then you can obviously save yourself from such kind of mental pressure.

1. CAREER
The opportunities for career at this time of a youngster are at peak. Due to the relationship burden at this level youngsters tend to ignore the carrier. And because of which they miss their career opportunities which were a compulsion for their bright future. They keep their relation at priority which leads to the degradation of their career. They don’t realize the importance of their career at this time but when they complete their college with degraded grades which were the result of their prior relationship, at that time they realize their mistake when they aren’t left with any other option. Today girls always tend to choose a guy who is successful enough. The time during the college should be genuinely spent on the career opportunities rather than carrying the responsibilities of a short term relationships.

PoliticsAre These Results Real? by engrsoma(op): 2:38pm On Mar 29, 2015
If you compare these election to other elections, you would realize that there are so much results every where.
I think that the main reason for this result posting is to create violence every where in Nigeria when the original result is finally released. Because If Jonathan is pronounced winner, with the level of victory APC is getting from the fake results, they would believe the election was rigged. #NoViolence

PoliticsNigeria Is Expectant by engrsoma(op): 7:52am On Mar 27, 2015
Nigeria is Expectant. Nigeria must have a president after
march 28, be it Jonathan or buhari that's not my problem.

I strongly believe that the development of Nigeria has to do
with the development of the Nigerians people psychology.
Until we change our mindset, Nigeria would continue being
a "Developing Country" a term used to describe Nigeria
since I could understand the simple principles of language
usage.

We complain of corruption by the government, but this term
"Corruption" is in every nook and cranny of the Nigerian
Society, from the gateman to the CEO.
We will continue being called Developing until we change our
philosophy towards the Nigerian development. How can we
be called developed when we still wear our best clothes to
SHOPRITE just to take pictures and upload on Facebook?.

Continuously I have watched Nigeria imitate the American,
their education system, political system and our girls try to
imitate their accent. All these would be great if we imitated
them well, but no, we just imitate the outer picture and leave
the inner picture for the Americans to draw.

Whatever the outcome of March 28th would be, Nigeria
won't change if we the citizens don't change the way we
see the Nigerian Development for it lies on our hands.

EducationRegrets Of A First Class Nigerian Student (a Mustread) by engrsoma(op): 4:26am On Jan 14, 2015
Just as a sick man in his dying bed has a heavy heart laden
with lots of grief and regrets of things unaccomplished, I sat
there in the fields that warm evening starring at the faculty
building with mixed feelings of achievement and regrets.
I had lived the life of a perfect student. I had great passion
for studying and some sort of insatiable desire for
knowledge. I excelled in every of my examinations and this
feat spurred up the feeling of invincibility in my
subconscious mind.
I wasn't a popular fellow but I believe that mentioning my
name portrayed the picture of a focused student with
outstanding academic abilities in the mind of the few that
knew me. Those few years, I always pictured a beautiful
future with me in it doing great things.
However, I began to realize the big gap between me and the
rest of the world. The wall I built between me and my friends
as a freshman. Gradually, I knew names of authors and
textbooks and yet hardly remembered the names of friends.
It dawned on me that in few months, I would not be seeing
some of my friends anymore, probably forever. I would
miss them for life. Their smiles, discussions and company
would be memories.
Though its a wonderful thing that as I round up my
undergraduate studies, I have an academic record to be
proud of, I had some regrets and some feelings that haunt
me. I couldnt help it. Its the price I paid.
Some days I wish there were 30 hours in a day.
I knew how to manage my time but my schedule favored
my books more.
Some folks would say "you can't have your cake and eat it."
Well I believe I can afford yet another 'cake' God willing.
I wish I spent more time listening to my friends when they
cared to speak.
I wish I was more flexible.
I wish I spent more time with the people I loved.
I wish I spent more time to discuss with my professors.
I wish I reciprocated the attention I received from my
colleagues.
I wish I took the time to reach out to my junior colleagues
with words of advice and encouragement.
I wish I created the time to reach out to my professors and
seniors for advice, coaching and mentorship.
I wish I spent more time building my network of contacts
and associates.
I wish I had the time to tutor my mates that failed their
courses or had a hard time passing them.
I wish I gave out my heart to love and be loved in return.
I wish I took the time to observe my changing world.
Nevertheless, as I sat there, I was consoled of the fact that I
still had few more months left and I swore to make a
difference within that little space of time. I wouldnt have felt
any better.
To my fellow scholars and graduates, who by hard work and
devotion have come out of university with a First, I say
congratulations on your well deserved feat.
To intending university students and undergraduates, you
have endless possibilities, you posses the power to achieve
your dreams if only you'll believe in yourself. There are
sacrifices which you must be willing to make. Though I
regret some of mine, that is the price for success, you
would agree with me its not much of a bad regret. Nothing
goes for nothing.
What people say doesn't really matter. Other students often
speak badly about certain lecturers and courses. Its their
way of justifying their failure. You hear phrases like "he is a
wicked lecturer", "nobody makes an 'A' in that course".
Never let those words bother you. I tell you what? Listen to
them and take note of it to work harder. I performed better
in the toughest courses.
Never underestimate your potentials for the difference
between you and the best guy in class is the time he
devotes for study. Well natural intelligence is a factor too.
By mentioning study, I don't mean blindly memorizing just to
pass your tests. Go out and develop this passion for your
discipline that would drive you to study with genuine interest
in the subject.
In your spare time, talk to your lecturers and professors
about your favorite topic and your career. Read outside your
course content, sometimes outside your discipline to be
enlightened.
Never forget to strike a balance between your academics
and your social life; you'll need it in the real world.
Be good to everybody you meet, show them love and
respect. Talk to someone, live the moment, have fun and
feel the world around you.
Find every reason to be happy after all life is too short.

PoliticsNeither Jonathan Nor Buhari Will Rule After February Election - Prophet Nwoko by engrsoma(op): 4:16am On Jan 14, 2015
A cleric, Prophet Anthony Nwoko, has said that neither
President Goodluck Jonathan nor Gen. Muhammadu Buhari
will be president after next month’s election.
Nwoko had in 1993 prophesied the end of the military
regime of former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, which
came to be.
Also in 1998, he prophesied that the late military ruler, Gen.
Sani Abacha, would leave governance of Nigeria in a
mysterious way. Briefing newsmen in Enugu yesterday on
the state of the nation, he also lamented that the nation was
turning very ungodly, saying, “I had told IBB in 1993 to leave
office and it happened and in 1998, I prophesied that
Abacha would leave office mysteriously, and you saw what
happened.”
Speaking on prospect of Jonathan’s reelection, Nwoko said,
“In 2010, I told Nigerians that they should not expect much
or any miracle from Jonathan.
Now, in this coming election, Jonathan will only serve as
John the Baptist and Buhari has not got any heavenly crown
to rule and will not rule this country because he hasn’t got
that crown.
“Don’t take my prophecies for granted because I had also
told Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar not to make Obasanjo
president and I had also warned Obasanjo not to make the
late former President Yar’Adua president and my advice
was not heeded and you saw what happened.”
On what would happen having prophesied that the two
leading presidential candidates would not be president after
February elections, the 64-year-old prophet vacillated,
saying: “I can see the glory of Nigeria in the South East and
I don’t agree with Wole Soyinka that Jonathan is
Nebuchadnezzar; Jonathan is a forerunner to the glory of
God.”
On the controversy stoked recently by Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka
in Enugu, Nwoko said he was not condemning the priest but
“I want to tell him that I can see the glory of God in the
South,” an ominous projection that showed no definite
direction for the country in the event that either of the two
giants become president as prophesied.
The prophet, who said he is not married at the advanced
age of 64 years, has no home of his own and has not set
foot on his Umuahia country home in Abia State in the past
45 years.
He said he would only visit Umuahia after accomplishing the
prophetic task for which he was called home from America
by God decades ago.
