Working with someone recently made it apparent the process to move a static site to WordPress has been made a lot harder than it needs to be. Here is the easiest way to convert a static website to a WordPress blog. You will not have to do any redirects or modify any files other than in the WordPress admin area.

Let’s assume we have 3 static pages, Index.html, about.html and products.html and we want to move to WordPress.

Install WordPress in the root of this domain.
Immediately copy the Index.html to the WP Theme (whichever theme you are using) folder, and rename it Home.php
At this point, your site will look to the world just like it always did. WordPress will automatically use the home.php page as the default, and now you can go about putting it all together. You should have no broken links or any worries about redirects.

Leave the permalinks with their default settings. This keeps you from having problems with existing pages.
Copy the contents from About.html and create a page called About
Copy the contents of your other files and make pages with the exact same names. If your page names are different than the titles, you can edit the permalink to match the filename (without the html extension).
Once the data is copied and you have the look you want, change the permalink to /%postname%.html
For PAGES (Not POST) to use the HTML extension you need a plugin as WordPress only applies the Permalink structure to the posts. Recommended HTML Extension Plugin -> WordPress Hero
Install this Plugin first for the pages.
Remove the old static pages, I suggest keeping them just in case you have a problem, but you need to move them out of the root.
Copy the index.html contents to the file you want to be your home page, and delete the Home.php file. Typically this is the index.php in the theme, however you may want to use a static page depending on the site setup. You can change this is the WP Settings.
At this point, your conversion is done.

Example:

Index.html has been copied to home.php http://test.cybercoded.com/
Original About.html still in place http://test.cybercoded.com/about.html
WordPress Version of About has been created http://test.cybercoded.com/?p=48
Additional page has been created http://test.cybercoded.com/?p=44
All I have to do is change the permalink and remove the old files and I am done.

There, no need to mess with your .htacess file, and no need to worry about redirects, let the system handle it for you.

And yes, I have done several sites like this.

I also use the Home.php method to park a page if I need time to work on it before going live.

The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills-base among young Nigerians.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR SHELL (SPDC) SCHOLARSHIP

Students must be citizens of Nigeria,
Currently enrolled in a first degree programme at an accredited and approved university in Nigeria, and
Must have gained admission during the 2012/2013 academic session.

SHELL (SPDC) SCHOLARSHIP TYPES
The Scholarship is in two categories – the National Merit Award (NM) and the Areas of Operation Merit Award, East or West (OE or OW).

National Merit Award (NM)
Open to Nigerians who are not indigenes of SPDC’s operational areas (in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers States).

Areas of Operation Merit Award, East (OE)
For Nigerians who are indigenes of SPDC’s operational areas in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Rivers and Bayelsa states (excluding indigenes of Ekeremor and Sagbama local government areas).

Areas of Operation Merit Award, West (OW)
For Nigerians who are indigenes of SPDC’s operational area in Bayelsa (i.e indigenes of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government areas) and Delta States.


HOW TO APPLY FOR SHELL (SPDC) SCHOLARSHIP

All applicants should have their personal valid email accounts (for consistent communication).
Candidates who meet the above entry qualifications should apply online, at www.shellnigeria.com to provide required personal and educational details, and load scanned copies of the following:
A recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant (i.e. jpeg format, that is not more than 200kilobytes);
University or JAMB (UTME or D/E) Admission Letter;
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) Scores;
‘O’ Level Result(s); and ‘A’ Level /OND /NCE Result(s) as applicable; and
Letter of Identification from State (showing Local Government) of Origin.
Applicants for the Operational Area Awards (OE & OW) are to provide scanned copies of identification letters (duly stamped and signed) from;
The Paramount Ruler of the Community; and
The Chairman of the Community Development or Executive Council (CDC or CEC).

Please note that:

Shell does not demand payment from applicants, the application is entirely free of charge.
SPDC does not assign ‘Representatives’ / ‘Agents’ to assist applicants’ process applications.
Applications should be submitted online before September 30, 2013.
Only short listed candidates will be contacted.
DEADLINE FOR SHELL SCHOLARSHIP: September 30, 2013.

Sup guyz,this is just my own little way of contributing back to nairaland cos i've gained a lot from here even before i became a member,i.e,as a guest.For students in higher instituions,a lot of us do not grab the opprtunity that scholarship opprtunities avail to us probably because of some false notions we have about them.I will just say about some.
1.Not all scholarships require that you have a high G.P.A before u can apply.
2.For those of us in polytechnics and colleges of Education,we are a lso entitled to the scholarships(unless otherwise stated)
3.This may sound funny, but scholarships are not for only indigenes of lagos state.(i've heard someone say before that why should i apply,am nt an indigene of lagos state)..lol
4.Even if you are very rich and comfortable,scholarships are still meant for you.,it will give u extra cash,to do other things.
