By Esther Daniels

Foremost youth group committed to enhancement of good governance, Ogbadibo Democratic Congress (ODC), has declared its support for Abuja based Journalist, Comrade Yemi Itodo, for Benue State House of Assembly.

Comrade Felix Onuh, the Vice President of National Youth Union and foundational member of ODC, while briefing newsmen in Otukpa, the capital of Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State on Friday, said the group had concluded on purchasing the nomination forms for Itodo at the national headquarters of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), the coming week.

"In Commitment to, and honest demonstration of our trust in this young man’s indisputable capacity to change the narrative of representative leadership for good, the Ogbadibo Democratic Congress shall in the coming week procure the interest form for our choice candidate under the auspice of the PDP", Comrade Onuh said.

He added that, the choice of the New Media giant, was hinged on long time neglect of the youth of the area, vowing that the group would mobilize resources and votes for Itodo's victory.

"We at Ogbadibo Democratic Congress (ODC) a group committed to promoting and upholding good governance through representative democracy, have deemed it needful, expedient and timely to support one of our finest young men, an ace Journalist, Prince Yemi Itodo, to clinche the People’s Democratic Party ticket, to represent the good people of Ogbadibo State Constituency in the 2023 general elections.

"I’m using this opportunity to call on all lovers of Ogbadibo and particularly our very large membership base to support the purchase of interest form for our choice candidate as we already see victory ahead for our people. Members of the forum that are yet to redeem their pledge should pls kindly do so as we swing into action next week, a journey that will birth a new and great future for our people", Onuh added.

Meanwhile, Manex TV Show had earlier reported that some members of the group spoke on the aspiration of Comrade Itodo, even as the medium claimed he (Itodo) denied contesting for the position.

"Yes, it is true that different groups have been pressuring me to run. But I'm not interested. One of the groups has even gone ahead to raise money for forms and promised to go house to house and lobby delegates.

"Don't get me wrong, if I run for the position, I will definitely win. I also respect their opinion of me and appreciate their confidence on me. But I'm aiming at something bigger. I won't want the distractions of local politics.

"Whatever I have been doing for my people, I would still continue to do, even more. But I'm going somewhere and I want them to pray for me. When my eagle finally lands, it will signal. No one carries a lighted lantern and hid it in his shirts. A pregnant woman does not need to drag microphone with Pastors for testimony, her appearance alone will announce the testimony", the Abuja based Media Consultant was said to have told Manex TV Show Friday morning.

When the medium asked of his likely action if the group goes ahead to purchase the form next week as planned, Itodo, however, said he would have no option than to respect them and throw in the hat.

CrimeI Have No Reason To Resign Pdp Zoning Committee Chair...ortom by Enny8(op): 11:06am On Mar 29, 2022
By Esther Daniels

State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that he has no reason to resign as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Zoning Committee ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He has maintained his resolve to complete the assignment without blemish saying “I have no reason to resign”.

The Governor was reacting to a news item credited to a faceless Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) led by one Yerima Shettima who had accused governor Ortom of compromising his position for receiving his Rivers state counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Wike was in Makurdi Sunday, March 28th where he declared his presidential ambition to contest for the 2023 presidential elections.

Shetima had alleged that the N200million naira donated by Governor Wike to help rebuild the burnt Katsina Ala and High Level Makurdi markets in Benue state was to compromise Ortom.

But in swift reaction, Ortom berated Shetima for being insensitive to the plight of the distressed people of Benue and wondered how a gesture to distressed people would compromise him.

The Governor stated: “I am shocked that some people can be insensitive to the plights of others who are distressed. What my brother Governor Wike did was to identify with our pains and offered succor to the best of his ability."

He pointed out that he is only "first among equals and not a dictator to impose any idea on members of the PDP zoning committee" who he said "are distinguished Nigerians who have excelled in their careers in life. So for anyone or group to come out to suggest that one man will impose his will on the other 36 members is insulting."

"Members of this committee will work out the best for this country and Nigeria will be better for the outcome of our assignment," he stated.

On allegations that he was given money to influence him, Governor Ortom declared;  "This is not the first time Wike will donate money to Benue State. Wike has been one of the people in this country who have contributed to the upkeep of the more than 1.5 million Benue people living in IDPs."

He went on: "Wike has also donated money to other states including some in the north. That did not make news to this so called Arewa Youths. Besides, he is not the first presidential aspirant to come to Benue to identify with our plight."

Governor Ortom continued, “Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was in Benue to consult with us a couple of weeks ago and he donated the sum of N50million to the IDPs. Then, Shettima and his Arewa youths did not see anything wrong with that and they did not ask me to resign.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we, in Benue state have no hatred for any one of group of people . We will receive and accord due respect to any Presidential aspirant who come to consult us over his or her political ambition," the governor maintained.

“So it is hypocritical for this faceless group to twist this narrative of Wike’s visit is unfair and uncharitable. We must be open to all so that we get the best out of many that have come out to rescue this country from the misery the APC government has put us into," the governor maintained.

Ortom reiterated that he will carry out the assignment diligently, honestly and will be guided by a good sense of justice and fairness to all.

Politics2023: With Right Candidate, Apc'll Poll 41m Votes – Yahaya Bello by Enny8(op): 12:04pm On Mar 28, 2022
By Esther Daniels

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has said that the All Progressives Congress will poll over 41 million votes in the 2023 general elections if a generally accepted candidate should emerge at the party’s primary.

The Governor also emphasised that the emergence of Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central Geo-political zone of the country would not impede his decision to jostle for the presidential ticket of the party, noting that party administration was different from governance.

He stressed that the APC as a party, as currently constituted, would not zone anyone out of the presidential race.

Governor Bello said this during an interview with the Sunrise Daily crew on Channels Television on Monday.

According to him, the type of leader the nation requires at this time is a competent, committed, young and vibrant individual, who will turn the tides of the nation, irrespective of his or her region, build bridges across ethnic, religious lines, while ensuring the inclusion of youths, women and people with disability in governance.

While answering questions on the recently concluded convention of the ruling party, the Governor noted that the emergence of Senator Abdullahi Adamu was the choice of the party.

He said the party went for an experienced party leader to manage its affairs, noting that the period it took to organise the convention was worth the wait.

"The new party leader and the National Working Committee have great experience to lead the party into a strong and cohesive entity. The option of consensus in selecting the majority of the party leaders was clearly in line with legal standing although positions where there was no agreed consensus, contestants went through the polls," the Kogi Governor said.

He assured that in the forthcoming primaries, the party would go through a democratic process that would be accepted generally by all stakeholders, adding that he was not afraid of any mode chosen by the party.

Governor Bello, while fielding questions on women's inclusion in governance, revealed that he would not require legislative backing to include women in government, stressing that Kogi State, under his leadership, had performed tremendously well.

"This is why women across the nation have been calling on me to run for president, considering the robust track record of giving women high-level inclusion in my administration," he noted.

By Esther Daniels

Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barrister Nyesom Wike says he has what it takes to rescue Nigeria.

Wike spoke in Makurdi, the Benue State capital where he officially declared his intention to run for the president of Nigeria.

"Those who want to be president now were the problems of the party in 2015. They ran away when the party needed them most. But I have stood and worked for this party. I have nowhere to run to because I take it personal that the party should not die. And I challenge anyone in a debate what they did for PDP."

He stated that he has the capacity to confront the evil administration of the All Progressives Congress, APC and solicited the support of delegates to actualise his aspiration.

president of the senate, Ahmed Lawan and speaker House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila

• Court ruled that the provision be deleted, not part of our law – Malami
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Wednesday in Abuja said his office would soon comply with the court order that he should expunge Section 84 (12) from the Electoral Act, 2022.

This is just as the Senate and the House of Representatives separately condemned the court order and vowed to take immediate action on it.

Recall that a Federal High Court in Umuahia had last Friday declared illegal Section 84(12) of the Act, which stipulates that all political appointees must resign before taking part in primaries.

Addressing journalists after the virtual Federal Executive Council meeting, Malami said he would give effect to the judgment soon, adding that machinery had been set in motion for that purpose.

Asked about the progress on the court’s ruling, Malami said the process was still on.

He stated, “My clear response is the fact that truly there exists a court judgment. By the judgment, the court directed the office of the attorney-general to take necessary steps to delete the provision, which in essence implies that the provision should not form part of our laws.

“Whether it has been deleted or has not been deleted is indeed a function of agencies of government and associated relevant parastatals, but the true position of it in that respect is the fact that government printers, and indeed the Law Reform Commission, among others, that are responsible for the codification and gazetting of our laws, are working naturally with the office of the attorney-general to ensure that what goes into our laws are indeed in line with the provisions of the law.

“So what I am saying in essence is that it is indeed a work in progress against the background of the fact that the Law Reform Commission is involved statutorily, which is a parastatal under the office of the attorney-general, is a party to the process of codification. The government printers, which are saddled with the responsibility of gazetting our laws on the request of the office of the attorney-general, are equally involved.”

He noted that the possibility of an appeal was also there, adding that “deletion of Section 84(12) is a work in progress and is being considered as such.”

But the National Assembly has resolved to appeal the judgment.

The Senate and the House of Representatives separately reached the resolution at their plenary on Wednesday.

The House resolved to report Justice Anyadike to the National Judicial Council for empowering Malami to delete the section from the Act.

Mr Nduka Edede, a lawyer and chieftain of the Action Alliance, had approached the court in the suit that had the AGF as defendant.

The plaintiff had asked the court to determine whether Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act, when read together with sections 66(1)(f) 107(1)(f)(137(1)(f) and 182(1)(f) of the 1999 Constitution, was not inconsistent.

However, the AGF, who was the defendant in the case, supported the plaintiff and the judgment was delivered barely a week after the suit was instituted. The National Assembly and the Independent National Electoral Commission were also not joined in the suit.

Judgment, an insult to National Assembly – Lawmaker

A member of the House, Sada Soli, raised a point of order to say his privilege as a lawmaker had been breached by the court.

Soli said, “I am coming on privilege with respect to the institution of the House of Representatives, reading from various reports of the recent judgment or pronouncement on the law made by the National Assembly. Mr Speaker, this judgment is not only an insult but it is an attempt to oust the jurisdiction of the parliament in making laws by directing an appointee of the executive to delete a law made by the National Assembly.”

The lawmaker made reference to the judgment in Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) vs. National Assembly as contained on page 2,100, Paragraph 15, Legislative Laws Report of Nigeria, which partly read, ‘Court cannot read into or import into the constitution what the legislators never intend’.

He explained that with respect to Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act, “the intention of the legislature was to address the issue of political appointees, which was never addressed anywhere in our constitution.”

Soli recalled that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was advised to communicate to the House with respect to Section 84(12) to request the parliament to delete it.

“And I am sure that advice was given by the AGF, because he is the chief law officer to the President,” the lawmaker said, adding, “But suddenly, we are waking up (to see) a judge somewhere giving that right to an executive appointee and encroaching into the principles of separation of powers.”

The lawmaker also cited the judgment in Attorney-General of the Federation vs. Atiku Abubakar on page 1,838, paragraph 5 of the Legislative Law Report of Nigeria, which prohibits a court from enacting or writing into the constitution or any other law “what the makers failed to insert.”

The Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, also raised privilege and constitutional orders to cite sections 66(1)(f), 107(1)(g), 137(1)(g) and 182(1)(g), which prescribe the conditions for a public servant seeking to participate in politics.

Elumelu said, “I am taken aback that in the constitution where there is separation of powers and where we have been made, by the provisions of the constitution, to make laws; that somebody is trying to do our job.

“I had expected that whatever that the judiciary would do was to interpret and in the course of interpretation, refer back to the National Assembly and not ask that the executive should do the job of the National Assembly. That offends the spirit of separation of power.”

In his submission, Herman Hembe said he was worried that “the same wordings that were contained in the advisory given to Mr President, which was sent to this House, asking it to delete a certain section of the Electoral Act, happen to be the same wordings that were presented before the Federal High Court.”

Hembe also noted that the plaintiff refused to join the “necessary parties that made the law he was unhappy about,” as well as the Presidency. He, therefore, urged the House to “immediately appeal the matter.”
Supreme Court may nullify APC convention, member warns
Hembe warned the All Progressives Congress against allowing political appointees disqualified by Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act to participate in the national convention of the ruling party scheduled for Saturday.

“I also want to call on Mr President and other people of goodwill – those ones who are in the APC; the national convention is a few days from now; if we take steps by allowing people who are caught up with this law; if you go ahead and allow people who are caught up in this process to participate in the convention and the Supreme Court (eventually) finds out peradventure that they should not have, it will completely destroy the processes that we are going to be having on Saturday.”

The Majority Whip, Mohammed Monguno, stated that the court violated the principle of fair hearing by not reaching out to the National Assembly, said, “The proper step for us to take is to appeal that decision so that it can be set aside.”

The Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, also pointed out that the parliament was the custodian of laws and the laws must be obeyed in the country.

House won’t be ridiculed under my watch, Gbajabiamila vows

The Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his submission, said the chamber was not aware of the case.
Gbajabiamila said, “I believe that President Muhammadu Buhari relies, like he should, on legal advice that is given to him. I think he relied on the legal advice that was given to him that this matter was unconstitutional.

“However, I cannot sit here and allow the institution, which I, at this present time, head and lead, to be ridiculed under my watch. I have a sacred responsibility – as we all do individually and collectively – to make sure that we leave this 9th Assembly with our heads held high and knowing that we have done everything we can to protect this institution and deepen our democracy.”

The Speaker noted that the National Assembly wanted to “deepen democracy, expand the frontiers of our jurisprudence and make sure that there is a level playing field for all and sundry” with the Electoral Act, particularly Section 84(12) and restriction of political parties to direct primaries.

He said, “Unfortunately, the case was taken to court, not minding that there was a mischief that the National Assembly sought to cure. Every law and every provision has a mischief it is trying to cure. And when you are interpreting a law, assuming that the law is ambiguous, then you go to the mischief rule to get the full clarity of what was intended.

“For the fact that the National Assembly was not joined as a necessary party was very curious. More curious was the fact that the judgment was obtained in far away Umuahia, when I know court directions should be filed where the defendants are resident.

“So, it smirks forum-shopping and venue-shopping. The truth has to be told; otherwise, we will be doing ourselves and the Nigerian public who elect us a great disservice if we cannot tell the truth at this time.”
Gbajabiamila also took a swipe at the plaintiff, who “in this case had no injury that he had sustained in the matter.”
The Speaker pointed out that “the power of the legislative body was usurped,” adding, “Under any guise, you cannot remove punctuation from a piece of legislation unless it is done by those who have the constitutional authority to do so.”

Gbajabiamila said it was on these grounds, without even going into the merits, that it behoves the National Assembly to appeal the judgment and have it set aside, adding, “It is important, not for anything, but for the sake of posterity and for the records.”

He asked the AGF to respect the right of the National Assembly to appeal the judgment.

The Speaker stated, “I don’t think it is right that anyone will foreclose the right of appeal. So, I will appeal to the attorney-general to tarry and not usurp or go into the legitimate and constitutional functions of the National Assembly; because apparently, he intends to carry out the order of the court.

“I will appeal from here that the attorney-general should stop and desist for now, and not foreclose the constitutional right of appeal, and allow the law to be settled, so that we can in future say it is a settled law. Right now, it is not a settled law.”

Gbajabiamila put the points or order to motions and the lawmakers unanimously passed three resolutions: “to seek ways and means to appeal and set aside the judgment,” to “write a formal complaint to the NJC,” and that the “AGF tarry awhile until this matter is settled.”

PoliticsTambuwal Rejects Zoning, South-west PDP Insists On Southern Presidency by Enny8(op): 1:00pm On Mar 23, 2022
By Esther Daniels

The South-West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Tuesday, insisted that Nigeria’s next President should emerge from the southern part of the country.

The party, at an extended zonal caucus meeting held at the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, said that it was in support of the position of the Southern Governors’ Forum that the southern part of the country should produce the successor to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari.

The party also reaffirmed its call for Nigeria’s restructuring and said it would support all efforts aimed at national cohesion through equitable distribution of federal positions and appointments among the geopolitical zones.

A communiqué read by the party’s National Vice-Chairman, South-West, Olasoji Adagunodo, stated that the PDP had resolved that the unity of its members in the zone was non-negotiable and that all mechanisms for dispute resolution must be on the front burner.

The party equally resolved to do everything within its powers to lawfully win the forthcoming governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor, Taiwo Adisa, said Governor Seyi Makinde, who is the leader of the party in the South-West, was commended by the caucus for his infrastructure development strides and efforts to reposition the PDP across states of the zone.

In his keynote speech, Makinde called on all members of the party to de-emphasise whatever issues they had with individuals and unite in the interest of the party, both at the zonal and national levels, adding that the South-West zone remained critical to the success of the PDP in the country.

He said, “We are in the election season already. The timetable is out and candidates for various positions will emerge within the next eight to nine weeks. And as the PDP South-West zone, what position are we presenting?

“We know that if the South-West and Yorubaland are not peaceful, things will not also be settled nationally. That is just the fact. We have also gone through the path that because of disunity, we were left out in the scheme of things.

“When the founding fathers of this party came together, they spoke about fairness, equity and justice, and they decided that the six major positions nationally must be shared among the six zones of Nigeria. That has always been the case until 2011. Because of the in-fighting and disunity, the South-West did not have a single position out of the six national positions.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I can list those six positions. In 2011, the President did not come from the South-West but from the South-South. The Vice-President did not come from the South-West, but the North-West.

“The Senate President came from the North-Central. The Speaker of the House of Representatives went to the North-West, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation slot also went to the South-East. The chairman of the party went to the North-East.

“That was how we lost all completely and we don’t want to walk through that path again. It has happened to us before and we don’t want it to happen again.

“But the only way it won’t happen again is for us to unite and de-emphasize whatever issues we have with ourselves individually. We must come together to tell ourselves what we are going to demand nationally.”
Makinde maintained that though the South-West PDP had three opportunities through the off-season elections in Ondo, Ekiti and Osun for the governorship seats, in-fighting had already made it to lose in Ondo State.
He stated, “Ondo State governorship election is coming back in another two years. But before then, we have the Ekiti governorship election coming up. We thank God that we have been able to get everybody together, but there is still a lot of work to be done if Ekiti will not go the way of Ondo.
“I do pray, because I know we have another opportunity to support our candidate in Ekiti State, so that in two months plus, we will have a governor-elect in the state.

“We also have Osun State, which practically is in a difficult situation. They have issues from the governorship primary, which is not supposed to be. The South-West is known as the zone to provide leadership for this country.

“Truth is, we are going to be the ultimate losers and what happened in the past will happen again if we don’t get our acts together.

“I make bold to say that those aspiring for the presidency and are using our people against us, there are only two and a half months left. You can force yourself to win the party’s primary, but can you force yourself on the populace?

“This is an opportunity for us to recalibrate and have a common position, moving forward in the national engagement with the unfolding scenario nationally.”

The presidential hopeful noted that as the APC did in 2015, the PDP must seek viable candidates with which it could win elections and not narrow its chances through a zoning arrangement.

According to him, had the APC presented a candidate from the South in 2015, it would have lost the presidential election.

The Sokoto governor stated, “The APC took their ticket to Katsina in 2015, where the last PDP President, Umaru Yar’Adua, who died in office in 2010, hailed from. Five years later, the APC, out of strategic thinking with Bola Tinubu and the rest of them, did this. I was part of it. We said we were looking for how to zone, but we must get power before we share it.

“I deliberately took the APC ticket to Katsina to give it to President Muhammadu Buhari. Yes, Atiku contested; Rabiu Musa contested and Sam Nda-Isaiah and Rochas Okorocha contested. But we knew where we were going, because we were determined to win.

“Let me tell you, had the APC given that ticket to someone from the South, in particular the South-South, we couldn’t have won. Go and check the election results of 2007. Buhari had 11 million votes before in 2003. But in 2007, he got seven million votes against Yar’Adua because they are from the same Katsina. For the PDP, I have a question. Are we looking at zoning or winning?”

According to him, the PDP must balance the calibre of candidates it hopes to front in the elections, arguing that the party could not afford to front two candidates from the same region or religion as that would be political suicide.

He said “The President and the Vice-President cannot come from the same zone. They cannot even come from the same religion. Am I right? If you have the President and the Vice-President as Muslims, that’s dead on arrival. In the current Nigerian situation, if you have both of them as Christians, that’s dead on arrival.

So you must balance the ticket and sit down. We cannot do what the APC has done, especially this second term, because we believe in this country and we know this country. We understand the dynamics and complexities of Nigeria’s condition. Otherwise, how else will you look at the line-up in the Federal Government like Nigeria? President, Vice-President, Senate President, Speaker, Deputy Senate President, Deputy Speaker, SGF, Chief of Staff, even chairman of the party, and no one from the South-East.

“We can’t do that. Where I am involved, that cannot happen. So, what we need is inclusiveness. We can then run the country.”

On his 2023 ambition, Tambuwal said he was the most qualified aspirant to clinch the party’s ticket and to lead the nation.

In his remarks, a former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, said no opposition party bothers itself with zoning, but it must focus on winning elections.

He also taunted those advocating zoning to begin from their states saying, “Why come to the centre to talk about zoning? Are you interested in winning the centre and losing at home?”

CrimeDss Should Stop Armed Fulani Terrorists From Bombarding Nigerians -HURIWA by Enny8(op): 4:57pm On Mar 21, 2022
Leading Civil Rights Advocacy Group-: HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has carpeted the Department of State Services (DSS) for its abysmal failures to preemptively prevent the horrendous attacks and killings of farmers and villagers by suspected armed Fulani terrorists but often engages in raising unnecessary and politically tainted alarms as soon as the victims have raised their objections to these horrific killings by terrorists masquerading as armed Fulani herdsmen.

HURIWA in a statement read out at a Press conference in Abuja and endorsed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko recalled that worried by sustained attacks and killings of citizens of the state by militia herdsmen, Governor Samuel Ortom was compelled to declare that henceforth, decisive actions will be taken against the invaders.

Governor Ortom who made the declaration Monday, March 14th, 2022 at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi during a press conference on the state of the nation hinted that Benue will no longer talk about the number of people killed by the invading militia herdsmen but confront them through community efforts in collaboration with conventional security agents.

"In the last two weeks, more than 20 people have been killed by Fulani terrorists in unprovoked attacks in Guma, Logo and Gwer West, Agatu" which he said had given rise to "the growing number of IDPs in Benue. As I speak, more than 1.5million people are still living in poor shanties as shelter. They have no where to go to."

He maintained that it is time for "the Federal Government to act fast before they push the citizenry into taking the risk of protecting themselves from these terrorists," Governor Ortom stated.

Governor Ortom lamented the inability of the federal government to redeem its pledge, more than three years after Vice President, Yemi Osinbanjo promised the sum of N10 billion for rehabilitation and reconstruction of ancestral homes of farmers destroyed by militia herdsmen in that state. Till date, nothing has been sent to the state.

Governor Ortom had also accused the Federal Government of nepotism said "Borno State and the North East have continued to receive tons of relief in cash and materials from the Federal Ministry of humanitarian Services and International donor agencies.

Hear him, "just recently, Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo gave marching orders to a committee for the North East. What is the sin of Benue IDPs?" All of these have not been countered with facts by relevant agencies.

HURIWA wonders whether the vocal support of the Rivers State's Governor Mr. NYESOM wike to the efforts by the Benue State's Governor to speak for the interests of the good people of Benue State is now being conjectured by the DSS as a sign that Govermor Wike and Governor Ortom are plotting to cause inter Ethnic violence when in actual facts, these two are asking that the killings by armed Fulani terrorists and other banditry activities going on in the country be stopped and the perpetrators arrested, prosecuted and sanctioned on accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

HURIWA recalled that not long ago, the Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesome Wike said he will continue to stand with the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom because he hates the injustice meted against the state because of the Governor’s principled position in defence of his people.

Governor Wike spoke Saturday, January 1st, 2022 in Makurdi when he paid a new year visit to Governor Samuel Ortom at his private residence in Judges Quarters.

The Rivers State Governor who was answering questions from journalists, condemned sustained killings in Benue by terrorist herdsmen.

He reasoned that even if the Federal Government does not like the Governor, they should support him because the people of the state voted for the president.

Wike was particularly angry at how Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in Benue are not taken care of by the Federal Government as those in the North East and other states.

He recalled that Benue people also voted for President Buhari and so deserve his care and protection.

Wike recalled how Governor Ortom counselled him on how to handle crises in the PDP in Rivers State so as not to destroy it, pointing out that, “that is what I followed. And so you are a good man who gives good advice.”

Can the DSS also accuse the governors of plotting the crises in the oil sector? What of the ingoing ASUU strike which has crippled our university education? What the DSS say about the rising cost of food prices? Are all these caused by these unnamed governors?

By Esther Daniels

An Enugu born agriculture entrepreneur, Hon. (Amb.) Peace Patrick, has enjoined governors from the south east region of Nigeria, to emulate the security, green revolution and other agricultural policies of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi of Enugu State.

Hon. Patrick, in a massage of congratulations on the ocassion of the birthday of Governor Ugwanyi on Sunday, said the people of Enugu were satisfied with the leadership qualities of the Governor, especially in the area of agriculture and security.

Governor Ugwanyi celebrated his 58th birthday on Sunday.

Hon. Patrick, who is the Head of Partnership and External Relationship of Nigeria's foremost indigenous agriculture technology promoter, Agrichainx Innovative Technology; lauded Governor Ugwanyi for his record-breaking interventions in the agricultural sector, which has made farming attractive to everyone in Enugu State.

"The primary aim of every government is to protect lives and property of the citizenry. This is what Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi has done. You will never see or hear of those crime and banditry that have been ravaging some communities in other states.

"This has also given the rural dwellers confidence to access their farms and cultivate their farm produce without fear of any attack. This is in addition to other agricultural policies of the Governor and many interventions like distribution of fertilizer, hybrids and encouragement of mechanized farming in the state.

"This is worthy of commendations and I urge other governors, especially the Ndigbo, to emulate Governor Ugwanyi and make the entire South East an agricultural hub of Nigeria", she said.

While wishing the Governor a happy prosperous birthday celebration, Hon. Patrick, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), assured Ugwanyi of her continued support in his government and future endeavours.

PoliticsI've Never Met Philip Agbese - Ortom by Enny8(op): 5:49pm On Mar 20, 2022
By Esther Daniels

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has dismissed claims by one Philip Agbese that he would  return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) soon, insisting that, "I have never met that young man  in my life."

One Philip Agbese had claimed in a newspaper report that Governor Ortom confided in him to plead with the wife of an APC leader in Makurdi that he (Ortom) be accepted back into the APC fold.

According to the Governor, "I have never met that young man who calls himself Philip Agbese, so there is no way I would have whispered to him on any issue. Not to talk of returning to the APC. And why should I return to the APC? What will I be doing in a party that has destroyed Benue, wrecked Nigeria to its knees. In any case, why should I confide or whisper to someone I have never met?"

He went on: "If that young man wants to use my name to climb to wherever he wants to go, then he has failed. I am an enigma. I cannot condescend to the level of engaging with people who are going about looking for crumbs just to fill their stomach against the general well being of the people."

Governor emphasised; "That young man is a serial liar who wants to draw attention to himself using my name. There is no truth in that claim. Whoever thinks that I Governor Samuel Ortom will dump the Peoples Democratic Party now when I am part of the leadership of the party mapping up plans to rescue Nigeria from the APC led by General Muhammadu Buhari administration must be joking."

"Let me make it clear. I am not contemplating of rejoining the APC at any time. I am in the forefront, working with other leaders of the PDP to ensure that the party rescues Nigeria from the cluelessness of the APC to win the presidency and other states as well as retains power here in the state".

PoliticsBenue To Establish Family Courts by Enny8(op): 6:37pm On Mar 18, 2022
By Esther Daniels

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has hinted that his administration will establish Family Courts to facilitate speedy trials of cases relating to human trafficking, gender based violence and other related matters.

Governor Ortom gave this hint Thursday, March 17th, 2022 while interacting with journalists in Abuja.

He said the state Ministry of Justice was already working out the legal details to lay the framework for its take off.

The Governor decried the rising cases of trafficking young girls to other parts of the country for prostitution and blamed the situation on the high number of IDPs which has been caused by sustained attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

He said his administration is also worried how family members would pounce on the wife of a deceased husband and disposses her of all properties immediately the man dies.

Governor Ortom said "this will not be allowed to continue," stressing that "the establishment of the family court will curtail these excesses."

He stated that his administration has passed and domesticated several other laws to deal with several other critical issues, pointing out that "cases of child trafficking will not be taken lightly and anyone who is found to have engaged in it would be prosecuted according to the law."

Governor Ortom disclosed that the Benue State government has also taken proactive steps by rehabilitating the Mama Abayol Family and Orphanage Home in Makurdi to provide maximum comfort to children that were taken from the streets and are kept there.

Ortom said that although Soludo was coming into government at a time the economy of the country was at an all-time low, and insecurity has posed a major challenge in the country, "we are confident that you will use your wealth of experience as a renowned economist and a technocrat in the management of CBN to contribute positively to the challenges facing the country."
