Politics / Apa/agatu: Ojema Thanks Constituent, Promises All-inclusive Representationthank by Enny8: 5:33pm On Mar 02, 2023
By Esther Daniels

The House of Representatives Member-elect, Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Pst. Comr Ojotu Ojema has showered appreciation on his constituents for the confidence reposed in him by voting him for the coveted seat.

The former commissioner for Youths and Sports defeated the incumbent, Hon. Samuel Odagboyi Godday of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the third major challenger, Hon. Melvin Ejeh of the Labour Party, to win the 25th February, 2023, Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency election, and was returned elected.

Announcing the result in Ugbokpo, the headquarters of the Federal Constituency, the returning officer, Professor Ishaq Shaibu Eneji, said Ojema polled 11061 votes against 9855 by the APC candidate and 7143 scored by the LP candidate.

Ojema is the only House of Representatives Member elected on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) from Benue State heading to the 10th National Assembly.

The newly-elected lawmaker in a personally signed statement released on Tuesday, commended "the good people of Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, especially the electorates for their support and massive votes, leading to my landslide victory at the last Saturday's National Assembly Election which I emerged as the winner.

"I wish to sincerely appreciate your resolve to always come out to receive me at any impromptu call during the electioneering campaign and your resilience to stay under the excruciating sun and turbulent nights until after the final declaration of the election results.

"I assure all of you, including those that did not vote for me during the election, that you will all be carried along regardless of your political affiliation or family lineage and I promise to fulfill all the commitments I made during my interface with you."

He also extended olive tree to his opponents, applauding them for "their maturity and good conduct throughout the duration of the race."

Ojema urged his opponents to join hands with him to work assiduously for the security, unity, peace, and development of the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency.

Politics / Impeach Ado Council Chairman Now, Group Tells Legislators by Enny8: 4:58pm On Mar 02, 2023
By Gabriel Otsapa

A group, Concerned Ado Citizens (CAC) has called for the immediate impeachment of the Chairman of Ado Local Government Council of Benue State, Mr. James Oche, over alleged gross abuse of office and electoral malpractice.

Recall that Oche, who is the Director General of the campaign organization of the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the 25th February, 2023 Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency elections, was arrested by the Nigerian Military alongside some thugs, for alleged election malpractice and violence during Saturday's polls.

Oche reportedly led an army of thugs to snatch ballot papers and destroyed election materials, including BIVAS in Apa Agila Ward, Ado LGA before luck ran out of them and they were arrested and detained by the Military.

It took the intervention of "a powerful politician from the Federal Constituency" before the Council Boss was granted administrative bail the next day, but 3 others who were in possession of firearms during the operation was still under detention.

Reacting in a statement issued by its Chairman, Dr. Peter Onazi, on Thursday, Concerned Ado Citizens described Oche's action as "shameful" and "undemocratic".

The statement partly reads, "James Oche has continued to drag the name of the Land of the Sage to the mud with his thuggish exuberance. We have been watching closely his tyrannical regime in Ado that has reduced our homeland into a lawless enclave.

"But his shameful conduct at the Saturday's poll, where he led a gang of political thugs to snatch ballot boxes and set electoral materials ablaze, surely broke the camel's back. How can a sitting Chairman who is supposed to be the Chief Security Officer of the council be the one perpetrating criminal acts?

"Enough is enough! We are calling on the Ado Legislative Council to impeach James Oche and save Adolites from the unending embarrassments the Chairman is bringing to the local government. We are giving the councilors seven days to impeach Oche or have thousands of Ado people to contend with.

"We also call on the Inspector General of Police to rearrest James Oche within 48 hours, to face justice for his crimes of human rights abuses, embezzlement, money laundry, thuggery and electoral malpractice," it added.

The group called on the good people of Ado to go about their normal business and be law abiding, urging them to come out enmass on March 11, 2023, to vote for Governorship and House of Assembly candidates of their choice, without being intimidated.

Politics / 2023: Foreign Observers Release Preliminary Reports by Enny8: 1:04am On Mar 01, 2023
By Esther Daniels

Thank Independent Foreign Observers Mission in Nigeria has released a preliminary report about the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria.

Nigerians went into the polls on Saturday, 25th February, 2025, to elect their President and Members of the 10th National Assembly.

The results of the elections which held across the country, are being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in Abuja.

Rising from its meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the foreign Observers, drawn from several countries in Europe and America with a common goal of monitoring the presidential election in Nigeria, described the Saturday's poll as "peaceful" and "transparent".

"The presidential elections in Nigeria recorded a high turnout of voters nationwide. It can also be regarded as one of the most transparent elections in the country's history, with the significant candidates recording victories and defeats", statement made available to newsmen after the meeting reads in part.

On the turn out of voters, the Observers Mission said, "the presidential elections witnessed a comparatively large turnout of voters in the various geopolitical zones compared to recent General Elections in the country. The South West and the South East Zones witnessed the highest number of voters turnout, with eligible voters demonstrating an uncommon level of patience to exercise their franchise".

It stressed that, INEC deployed both sensitive and non sensitive materials to voting points on time, even though the report recorded some delays in some areas, which it said did not deter voters from performing their civic duties.

On votes buying, the foreign Mission observed that, the Saturday's polls recorded minimal incidences across the country.

The reason adduced is that, Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) randomly visited polling units unannounced to arrest anyone involved in such acts. The country’s recent redesign of its currency, the naira reduced vote buying to the bearest minimum.

As experienced in Nigeria’s 2015 and 2019 General Elections, the Observers said "social media platforms were deployed across political parties in a manner that could have potentially undermined votes, a situation that became especially worse on the part of supporters of candidates whose parties were not winning the votes.

"Such supporters took to social media to announce their candidates as being in early leads based on the announcement of results from a few dozens of polling units. This situation significantly contributed to the allegations of vote manipulation that almost gained traction in the mainstream".

The Mission praised some political parties and their candidates for honouring the Peace Accord and not inciting their supporters, especially the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging other political parties to take cue.

It said, "the post-election statements by candidates and their supporters have been somewhat inciting. The candidates of the opposition parties have been credited with statements with the potential to heat the polity and cause unrest. It must be noted that the allegations of infractions are on the basis of speculation and not facts on the ground.

"The candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) so far displayed a high sense of commitment to the integrity of the electoral process in his reaction to losing Lagos to the Labor Party candidate. The promptness with which the party called its supporters to maintain calm in Lagos doused an otherwise charged situation".

While praising the security agencies for being proactive and civil, the foreign Observers urged other Observers groups of supra-national organizations, "to moderate their utterances and reporting in order not to descend into partisanship as they are currently tending towards".

Those present at the Statement Hotel, Central Area, Abuja for Tuesday's briefing include: Messrs Rudolf Elmendorp, Stuart Young, David Furnad, Stuart Dyer, Francois DeRobaix and Jeffrey Fry; amongst other supporting and technical members.

Politics / Enone 2023: Philip Agbese In Early Lead by Enny8: 11:22pm On Feb 25, 2023
By Esther Daniels

Reports reaching DaybreakTimes say the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogabadibo Federal Constituency election, Chief Philip Agbese, is looking to take the day.

This is, as the APC candidate is leading with a wide margin from the results that have so far emerged from the three local government areas of the constituency.

Our correspondent reports that Agbese is winning with over 75 percent in Ado local government.

He is also leading in Okpokwu with a clear margin ahead of the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Raphael Otobo.

Okpokwu is also the country home of the Senator representing Benue South and the senatorial candidate of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Similarly, Okanga, as he is popularly called, is leading in Ogbadibo local government, where Aida Nath Ogwuche, the PDP's candidate is from.

Agbese is favoured by the zoning formula of the constituency being the only candidate standing from Ado LGA, which has the blessings of the people for a term of four years.

Final results are being collated at the various LGA collation centres for onward transmission to the Constituency Collation Centre in Okpoga.

More details later...

Politics / 2023: Benue South Endorses Atiku For President by Enny8: 10:33pm On Feb 23, 2023
By Esther Daniels

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful in Benue South Senatorial District, rose from a stakeholders meeting in Otukpo, Thursday evening, to formally endorse the candidature of Atiku Abubakar as the preferred candidate for the plum position in 2023.

The meeting was held in the Otukpo country home of former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark.

The PDP stakeholders resolved to vote for Abubakar on the premise that their interest would be better served under his presidency.

They distanced themselves from those campaigning for candidates of other political parties, saying, they cannot be faithful members of the PDP and be seen to be working for candidates of other political parties.

They therefore, urged all party members not to be distracted by the antics of a few but should go all out to vote for candidates of the PDP in the February 25, 2023 and March 11, 2023 elections.

Addressing the stakeholders drawn for the nine local government areas making up Benue South Senatorial District, Senator Mark told them to be faithful to PDP, “because it makes no sense for people to engage in anti party activities.

Current Benue South Senator, Abba Moro, on his part, urged the party faithful to remain steadfast with the PDP.

The meeting was attended by virtually all the critical PDP stakeholders from the 9 local government areas of BENUE South.

Politics / 2023: Benue To Deliver 1m Votes To Atiku -Ogaji by Enny8: 6:06pm On Feb 07, 2023
By Esther Daniels

Coordinator, Benue Voters in Diaspora (BVD), Chief Bright Igodo Ogaji, has predicted the presidential Candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to emerge winner at the 25th February election in Benue State.

The PDP presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had held his campaign rally in Makurdi, the state capital Monday evening, after series of postponement, which was not unconnected to the rift between Governor Samuel Ortom and the national leadership of the party, with Benue born Senator Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman and Atiku as the party's flag bearer.

Ortom is a critical figure amongst the G-5 Governors of PDP who are disgruntled with the national leadership of the party.

In a press statement signed by himself on Tuesday, Chief Ogaji, who was a Benue South Senatorial aspirant in the May 2022 primaries of the party, said, contrary to opinions from some quarters, Atiku would poll over one million votes from Benue State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed total registered voters in Benue State to be 2.7 million.

According to Chief Ogaji, the turnout at Atiku's rally in Makurdi and the level of "mobilization" by various PDP stakeholders both home and in diaspora, is a testament that the PDP's candidate would sweep Benue at the poll.

He said, "I have seen the level of love and acceptability from the people. With what I saw yesterday at the rally, Atiku is the man to beat and nothing would stop Benue people from giving him over a million votes.

"I know it's very difficult to believe, owing to what people have been saying and hearing about Benue, but the power lies with the voters. You can see from the massive turnout today and I kid you not, we the registered voters in the diaspora are also mobilizing our people at home to give their support to Atiku Abubakar. He is the best for now.

"Some of our members who registered in Lagos, Abuja and other areas of resident before leaving Nigeria, have already transferred their voting power to Benue. For some of us, we registered right here in Benue and our PVCs are in thousands, we shall speak with one voice, come 25th February, 2023 and return Atiku as our next President. Benue has always been delivering for PDP and this time around, it's going to be massive, unprecedented".

The US based Philanthropist and former Chairman, Oju Local Government Council, added that, "unlike in 2019, when PDP's Atiku polled 355,355 against the APC’s 347,668; the people of Benue would give the PDP's candidate a landslide votes, over one million votes is guaranteed for him".

To make it a reality, Ogaji said all members of BVD from various countries would be arriving Nigeria and Benue State in the coming days, for what he described as "aggressive grassroots mobilization for Atiku and PDP".

Politics / Atala Oil Field: NUPRC Under Fire In Senate Over Wrongful Re - Allocation by Enny8: 6:29pm On Oct 02, 2022
By Esther Daniels

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission ( NUPRC ), came under fire and scrutiny in Senate last Friday over alleged revocation and wrongful re - allocation of the Atala Marginal Oil field ( OML 46) owned by the trio of Bayelsa Oil Company Limited, owed by Bayelsa State Government, Hardy Oil Nigeria Limited and Century Exploration and Production Limited to Halkin Exploration and Production Company Limited ( Halkin E&P) .

Consequently , Senate Committee on Ethics , Privileges and Public Petitions , on grounds of Petitions before it from Hardy Oil Nigeria Limited , directed the Management of NUPRC , to produce the written directive from President Muhammadu Buhari, being the Minister of Petroleum directing it to allocate the field to Halkin E&P.

Trouble over the oil field started on April 6, 2020 when the then regulatory agency, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), revoked the operating licence of the Atala JV Partners on the Marginal Oil Field over alleged inability to bring the Atala Field to production

But the trio of BOCL , Hardy Oil Nigeria Limited and Century Exploration and Production Limited ( CEPL) , kicked against the revocation on the grounds that as original operators of the oil field , explorations and productions have been made and royalties paid into account of the federal government of Nigeria and that as at the time the field was purportedly revoked, the JV-partners have an outstanding 20,700 barrels of crude on the site.

It is recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had, sometime in October 2020, in response to the appeal by the Marginal Field Operators Group (MFOG) , directed the immediate “reinstatement of the ten revoked Marginal Fields licences, on a discretionary basis, to qualified companies with consideration given to the previous operators of the respective fields subject to the demonstration of technical/financial capacity and payment of applicable Good and Valuable Consideration (GVC).”

But the defunct DPR (Now NUPRC) through a letter dated February 28, 2021, signed by Auwalu Sarki, purportedly on behalf of Minister of State for Petroleum Resources , Timipriye Sylva , awarded the oil field to Halkin Exploration and Production Limited which is not among the previous operators , leading to petitions filed against that breach of Mr President’s directive to the Senate Committee on Ethics , Privileges and Public Petitions by the Atala JV Partners, the previous operators and the rightful beneficiaries of the presidential leniency .

At the resumed hearing on Friday, 30th October, 2020, the Executive Commissioner , Economic Relation and Strategies , Dr Kelechi Ofoegbu , who represented the Chief Executive of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission ( NUPRC) at the investigative hearing conducted by Senate Committee on the matter effort to rationalise the decision, proved abortive as members of the Committee requested for written directive given to that effect by Mr. President.

While Kelechi spiritedly attempted to convince the Committee headed by Senator Ayo Akinyelure ( Ondo Central ) , that the inherited action taken by the defunct DPR , was in order , the committee insisted that the Presidential Directive which favors the return of the field to the previous operators , was not followed in the discretionary action taken by DPR. The Committee frowned at apparent partiality of Dr. Kelechi Ofoegbu’s presentations in favor of Halkin.

Specifically, the Chairman of the Committee said : " NUPRC which is now the new regulatory agency that you represent here , is not expected to take side on the disputed oil field .

" Since DPR is inherited by NUPRC, the new agency , must furnish this Committee with written directive from President Buhari , upon which award of the Atala Oil Field was made to Halkin E&P and not previous operators as clearly stated in the presidential directive quashing the revocation .

" Perhaps , in running away from the fact and getting away with the oil field award , Halkin stopped appearing before this Committee after previous appearances by resorting to litigation in the court of law” .

" What this Committee wants from NUPRC, being the inheritor of DPR , is written Presidential directive on the Oil Field award to Halkin E&P and nothing more .

" It is wrong for an implementing agency to hide under discretion , in violating Mr President's clear cut directive. DPR which is now NUPRC must provide written Presidential directive on the Atala Marginal Oil Field which it awarded to Halkin with attendant enormous financial loss inflicted on previous operators who have expended enormous resources, most of which were borrowed from the banks to develop the field”

Dr Kelechi Ofoegbu further incurred the wrath of the Committee when he interjected by dismissing the $60million which Halkin allegedly claimed to have in the field when he stated that Halkin invested the said fund in the procurement of equipment and not on the Atala Field, but the Committee had countered him by stating that the defunct DPR had in its letter to the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources stated as follows :- “Halkin stated that in 2019, the company through one of its subsidiary companies received the approval of the Board of Bayelsa Oil Company Limited (BOCL –former Operators of Atala Field) to farm into 41% of the field through the execution of Farm-In Agreement and Field Management Services Agreement with BOCL. The company claims to have invested over Sixty Million US Dollars ($60,000,000.00) to revive the asset in the process” The Committee equally reminded him that Halkin had also averred in an affidavit which it submitted to a federal high court in its suit against the National Assembly to have invested sixty million dollars in the development and operations of the Atala field, a claim which contravened his claims before the Committee and in NUPRC’s report.

Irked by the submission , members of the Committee natably Senators Michael Nnachi ( PDP Ebonyi South) , Uche Ekwunife ( PDP Anambra South ) , etc , descended on him for making such irreverent submissions that contradicted the documents before the Committee.

Lady Ada Chukwudozie who represented Hardy Oil Nigeria Limited ( HONL) , also took exceptions to submissions made by Kelechi of the NUPRC .

Before Friday session, the Committee had earlier in March this year, hosted the disputants at a public hearing for way out of the complicated matter .

Politics / Gen. TYB And His Sense Of Nationalism by Enny8: 10:14am On Sep 11, 2022
By Sunny Green Itodo

LT-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd.) is one of the finest officers Nigeria has ever produced, an illustrious example of a nationalist who by dint of hard work, patriotism and dedication to duty rose to the pinnacle of the Nigerian Army as the Chief of Army Staff.

Interestingly, TYB, as he is fondly called, was born in the year Nigeria got her independence from Britain. Not only that, he was born (24 November, 1960) into the family of a World War II veteran, Yusuf Buratai, from Buratai, now in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. All these are more than mere coincidences, they are pointers to what the young Buratai was to become.

The leader in him began to manifest from a very young age. He demonstrated uncommon traits of patriotism right from his primary school days in Buratai town, which he eventually took to the prestigious Government Teachers College Potiskum, Yobe State, where he was among the shining stars (he graduated with distinction).

Typical of TYB who is known for his selfless and self-sacrificing services for the common good of all, upon the completion of his teacher training, the young and brilliant Buratai settled as a classroom teacher tutoring young children at a primary school in Buratai village. And when the opportunity came for him to serve the nation on a wider front, he grabbed the opportunity and applied for the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, in 1981. And as Allah will have it, he was shortlisted for the 29 Regular Combatant Course (29 RC).

Even at the Nigerian Defence Academy, his leadership qualities were noticed and he was rewarded with the prestigious appointment of Cadet Sergeant Major (CSM). On successful completion of his Officer Cadet training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 17 December 1983 into the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army.

Throughout his meritorious service to the nation as a soldier, Lt-Gen. Buratai held several positions and served in various capacities including but not limited to Administrative Officer at the State House, Abuja; Commander 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt; Commandant Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, and Force Commander of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). In addition to national and international operational deployments which include Military Observer at the United Nations Verification Mission II in Angola, Operation PULO SHIELD (Commander Sector 2 JTF), Operation HARMONY IV in the Bakassi Peninsular, MNJTF, and Operation LAFIYA DOLE, among others.

As Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Buratai was saddled with the responsibility of spearheading the clearing of insurgents from the Lake Chad Basin Commission countries and the Benin Republic, which he delivered explicitly.

Before he was appointed MNJTF Force Commander, the Lake Chad Region was the epicentre of terrorism in Sub-Sahara Africa. But through his steering leadership and staunch bravery lanced with patriotism, the region recorded unequivocal success in the war against terrorism with thousands of terrorists denouncing terrorism.

Given the heroics he made at the MNJTF, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as Nigeria's 20th Chief of Army Staff in 2015. He would go on to hold the revered office for a record six years.

As Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai's detribalized leadership style, patriotism and nationalist mien, dogged bravery and penchant for human rights, endeared him to Nigerians.

Nigeria recorded its biggest victory against insurgency and terrorism during his stint as Chief of Army Staff. Boko Haram, the terrorist group that has terrorized most of Northeastern Nigeria for more than a decade was defeated, and other insurgency groups such as Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP), Niger Delta militants, Bandits, militia herdsmen, Biafra secessionist militants, and other terrorists were brought to their knees.

By the time Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai retired from the Nigerian Army in January 2021, after 40 years of meritorious service to Nigeria as a soldier and six years as Chief of Army Staff -the country's longest-serving chief of army staff-, the Nigerian Army, and indeed Nigeria, has been better repositioned in winning wars and insurgencies.

If "Today's planning and sacrifices are the gains of tomorrow", like someone once said, then Buratai's selfless and self-sacrificing strides as Chief of Army Staff have set the pace for better service delivery in the Nigerian Army.

During his days in the military, his diligence earned him a slew of on-the-job commendations including the prestigious "Pass Staff College Dagger" (psc(+)) appellation, Meritorious Service Star (MSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), Grand Service Star (GSS), United Nations Medal for Angolan Verification Medal II, among others.

There are three centres named after him nationwide; Tukur Buratai centre for Contemporary Security Affairs, Igbinedion University, Edo State, Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace, Nigerian army University Biu, and Tukur Buratai Centre for Security Studies, Ebonyi State University.

On 7th September, 2022, he commissioned two projects at the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBIWP), Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), located in Buratai town. The projects, a modern storehouse and a souvenir shop, were in honour of two staff of the institute, the late Lawan Aliyu Buratai and the late Yusuf Abubakar Miringa, the TBIWP storekeeper and his assistant.

Let me also mention that Lt-Gen Buratai has a degree in History from the University of Maiduguri and a degree in Philosophy from the Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dhaka. He is also a graduate of National Defence College, Mirpur, Bangladesh.

A true patriot, LT-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, now retired, again made himself available for national service and was appointed by Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria's Ambassador to the Benin Republic, just after he retired from the military.

Already, Buratai has begun to distinguish himself in the diplomatic field through his detribalized and patriotic ambassadorial services to all Nigerians in the Benin Republic.

These explained why he is loved and respected throughout Nigeria, irrespective of tribe and religion.

Recently, the people of the Buratai community in Biu Local Government Area of Borno held a reception in honour of their son, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, for his excellent performance as Chief of Army Staff between 2015 and 2021.

He has also received similar honours from across Nigeria. This year alone he has bagged several chieftaincy titles including the ‘Garkuwan Keffi’ conferred on him by the Keffi Emirate Council led by Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo-Yamusa; Jagunmolu of Sakiland conferred on him by the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyedepo; Are Balogun Agba of Owu-Kuta Kingdom conferred on him by the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Tegbosun III.

In 2020, he was conferred with the traditional title of Jarman Maradun by the Emir of Maradun, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Tambari.

Amb. LT-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd.) is the kind of leader Nigerians yearn for. His patriotism, prudence, diligence and "Nigerianism" are second to none!

Politics / Bauchi Privatization: APC Chieftain, Gololo Cautions AY Shafa, Others by Enny8: 2:47pm On Aug 27, 2022
By Esther Daniels

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Garus Gololo, has sounded a note of warning, to all those who bided or intend to bid in the ongoing privatisation of government owned-properties in Bauchi state.

The Bauchi State Government, through the office of the deputy governor and Chairman, Bureau for Privatisation and Economic Reforms, announced Tuesday, that about 6 state owned industries have been successfully privatised in the first phase of the exercise.

Senator Baba Tela, the State deputy Governor, announced that, Bauchi Meat Factory, Bauchi Furniture Company, Bauchi State Fertizer and Blending Company, Zaranda Hotels, Wikki Hotels and Tours and Gallambi Cattle Ranch have been successfully bided in "the first round".

The Bauchi Fertilizer and Blending Company was said to have been sold to AY Shafa at the rate of N400m; New Frontier acquired Bauchi Meat Factory at N301m; Galambi Cattle Ranch was sold for N150m; Zaranda was leased out for 25 years to Butfield who offered N1.2bn; while Butfield also acquired Wikki Hotels for N200m, for a lease of 25 years.

Reacting to the development Saturday morning, Dr. Gololo said the process of privatisation was not transparent, describing it as attempt to sell off government's properties to cronies and associates, ahead of 2023.

"It is obvious that Governor Bala Mohamed is not going to return to the Government House in 2023. Hence, he is trying to sell off government's properties to his cronies as a way of settlement.

"If not, how do you explain a process of privatisation without involving various stakeholders in the State? No public hearing was conducted to actually seek the opinion of the people on what they really want with their resources. The process of biding is also beclouded with favouritism. The whole thing lacks integrity.

"I'm using this opportunity to warn as many that may have been programed by Mohamed to buy the State owned properties, to steer clear as such transactions are not genuine and not to the best interest of the people. By the time the next Governor is sworn in by May 29, 2023, all those beneficiaries would know that they have entered 'one-chance'", the APC chieftain told our reporter.

Senator Mohamed, a first time Governor of Bauchi State, contested for the Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May 2022, but lost to Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President.

He has since, gone to clinch the governorship ticket of his party in Bauchi, where he is set to dig it out with the Former Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar of the APC and other candidates from various polical parties in 2023 gubernatorial elections.

Politics / Sunnygreen Itodo: Ada Ameh: The TV Goddess Leaves The Stage! by Enny8: 2:21pm On Jul 20, 2022
Sunny Green Itodo

Growing up around the time the Nigerian movie industry started its transition into what is now known as Nollywood, was one of the perks of being born in the 90s. But unfortunately, this has also left us (millennials) with a costly price; the perennial heartbreak of watching the stars who made our childhood memorable succumb.

On the 17th of July, 2022, yet another star fell from the sky. And this time it was the frolicsome Ada Ameh, a symbol of my hometown's pride!

My heart tugged when I came across the report of her sudden death on social media. Initially, I wished it was a rumour, or better still, one of those staged deaths in movies. I was too timid to accept the reality of her demise. So, I basked in delusion for a very long time, waiting for a miracle to occur.

I finally came to terms with the reality after seeing the report of her passing on some reputed outlets. Hence, this tribute is in memorial to the self-styled "Ochanya Ku'Televison K'Idoma" -The Goddess/Queen of Idoma filmdom.

I never met the versatile and energetic talent that was Ada Ameh while she was alive, but she impacted so much in my life more than a lot of the people I have had physical encounters with. She was the person who fits the description of a good-natured influencer.

Born in Lagos on 15th May 1974, to an Idoma father and an Ibibio mother, Ada quit school at the soft age of 14.

How she became one of the most highly sought-after actresses in the keenly competitive Nigerian motion picture industry without a degree, and despite having a child at the age of 14, is a resilience story for another day.

She broke into the klieg light in 1996 in the landmark movie "Domitilla" alongside Sandra Achums and Sam Arogundade.

Since hitting the reckoning, Ada has starred in dozens of movies and one series in the 26 years of her career, including blockbusters such as "Aki Na Ukwa", "30 Days in Atlanta", "The Johnsons", "A Million Baby", "Oloture", "One Good Turn”, "My Village People", and “Gone".

She also played a cameo role in songstress, Yemi Alade's hit record, "Double Double" music video.

But while the 'Ochanya Ku'Televison' was creating happiness for millions, death put a beam on hers: On 20 October, 2020, she lost her only child, Aladi Godgift at the soft age of 30. Before 2020, she lost six of her siblings (three brothers and three sisters). In March of 2022, she lost yet another sister. Despite all these, she kept filming. Not many can dare to be brave as she was.

Unfortunately, death came again on the 17th of July, 2022, and put off the shining light that was Ada Grace Obande Ameh at the unripe age of 48.

Let heaven hence tame death
And cause her to leave our earth
Let her glide off every depth
We no longer owe her any debt.

Fellow countrymen and women, fans, friends and family alike, may we all find consolation in the singular fact that she lived a delightful life and left eternal marks in Nollywood and African moviedom at large, and she is now in the celestial theatre entertaining the heavenly hosts.

So long as her movies live, she lives.
Death, do not be proud!

Celebrities / Ada Ameh: Benue Women Demand Autopsy, Suspect Food Poisoning by Enny8: 6:15pm On Jul 19, 2022
By Sunny Green

A cross section of Benue women have demanded for an autopsy to be conducted on the corpse of late Benue-born Nigerian Nollywood actress, Ada Ameh.

Ameh, 48, reportedly slumped and died around 11:53pm on Sunday in Warri, Delta State, where she was visiting an oil company magnate and his family.

The comic actress-cum-producer shared a video of herself enjoying a dinner with her host family on Instagram hours before she was reportedly dead.

Some women from her home state of Benue have called for an autopsy to ascertain the true cause of her death.

Former Benue State Governorship aspirant and first female mechanical engineer in Northern Nigeria, Dr. Roseline Ada Chenge, said she was shocked by the news of her sudden death, stressing that she had a telephone chat with the "The Johnsons" actress few hours before the time she reportedly died, and she was in good health.

The former Lower Benue Managing Director disclosed this in a video she shared on her official Facebook page Monday evening.

Mrs. Chenge said: "Good day Nigerians, with pain in my heart and deep sorrow, I am here this afternoon to ask questions. I have been trying to call online to ask these same questions but nobody is picking my call. And I need to call and ask Nigerians and also ask Nollywood.

"I am Egnr. Ada Chenge, I am Benue by origin. I am Idoma. I woke up this morning to see on the social media that my sister, whom we call the TV goddess in Idoma land, collapsed and died. I am so shocked, so shocked that my brian is not able to calculate it.

"Precisely about 5:15pm yesterday (Sunday), 17th of July, 2022, I put a call across to Ada. Because I came to Lagos from Benue and I am staying in Lagos in my house. I called her about 5:15pm and she picked the call and said 'aunty, your Excellency, how are you?'. And I said I want to see you, I am in Lagos. And she was like 'oh aunty, I am in Warri'. And I said what are you doing in Warri? And she said 'aunty we went for the burial of the parent of one of my friends. We are hanging around, we are doing one or two things there.' And I said okay, when you return I want to see you because Idoma land needs you right now for a very special mission. And she said 'okay aunty, I will be in Lagos tomorrow morning because I am shooting through out this week in Lagos'.

"I spoke with her myself, she was in high spirit, she was in a high mood. There was no depression or mental issue. Yes, she was going through a lot after her daughter died. But if you checked her Instagram page on Saturday when she left for Warri, you can see the mood that she was. And in the afternoon, I saw another caption online that she slumped when she was eating about 12:53.

"No, that is not true. Because I spoke with her close to about 10 minutes. I spoke with her yesterday about 5:16. So, that was after she ate that meal. So there was some problem. There is a missing link. What's going on? I am hearing she went to Warri, she was treating herself, she went to Warri she was staying... I don't understand. She told me precisely 'aunty I will be back on Monday. Her Excellency, when I come on Monday, I may not be able to see you because of Lagos traffic. Just send me the address, I will be with you on Tuesday'.

"You can imagine how my brian is going; that I spoke with her 5:15pm and she died this morning. Yes, people die like that. But Ada Ameh is such a star that she cannot just disappear from planet earth without us knowing the real reason.

"Since morning, I have called her line like 20 to 50 times. I sent a text that I am Engr. Ada Chenge from Idoma that we heard something about you. Any that is with her phone can you call me? Are you in touch with her people in Otukpo? Are you in touch with the people in Lagos as to Nollywood? But no reply," she added.

Mrs. Chenge challenged the Actors Guide of Nigeria (AGN) to insist on conducting autopsy on the corpse to ascertain true cause of the death, while assuring the support of relevant Idoma stakeholders in getting to the root of the cause of Ada Ameh's death.

Politics / Deputy Gov'ship: Benue South APC Leader, Young Alhaji Writes Akume by Enny8: 8:31pm On Jul 12, 2022
By Esther Daniels

The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue South Senatorial District, Alhaji Usman Abubakar Danmaishannu, aka Young Alhaji, has written to the leader of the party in the state, Sen. George Akume, over the "raging crises bedeviling" the party in Benue South.

Danmaishannu in a letter dated 12 July, 2022, explained that, as the leader of the party in Zone C, he has been holding several meetings to keep the party alive, including the one held at his GRA residence in Otukpo on the 8th July, 2022, with the aim of deliberating on the issue of deputy governorship nomination.

He said the stakeholders deliberated thoroughly and collectively zoned the Deputy Governorship slot to Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency for the "sake of equity and fairness".

He said a 13-man committee was set up to issue a communique to that effect and forwarded same to him, the state leader, Sen. Akume, and other stakeholders.

Danmaishannu said unknown to him, some party elders from Benue South led by Sen. Ameh Ebute, and Barr. John Ochoga, held a "clandestine meeting" in Abuja on the 8th of July, 2022, and "tailored" a list of deputy governorship nominees; Egnr. Michael Ogbleba (Otukpo L.G.A), Alh. Yusuf Suleiman Elaigwu (Apa L.G.A) and Hon. Bernard Ochepa (Ado L.G.A), and submitted the list to the governorship candidate of the party, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia for consideration and also sent copies to the leader of the party in the state, H.E Sen. Dr. George Akume, and the state Secretary of the party.

Describing the elders as "political pirates", Young Alhaji maintained that the move was motivated by "selfish and greedy ambition".

He said: "As the leader of the party in the zone, it is high time to call a spade a spade and enough is enough. I therefore advise the state leadership of the party to bring these political pirates to order. Exemplary of their mischief was their letter dated 8th July, 2022 and signed by Sen. Ameh Ebute."

Danmaishannu added that "APC victory in Benue South in the forthcoming general elections 2023 seem bleak, if urgent steps, almost radical ones are not taken to address the issues mentioned above."

Politics / 2023: Only VP Of N/central Extraction Would Make Us Win, N/east APC Stakeholders by Enny8: 10:59am On Jul 04, 2022
By Esther Daniels

As debates concerning the vice presidential candidacy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to occupy central stage of Nigeria's polity, a coalition of stakeholders from the North East region, has demanded that the party picks the VP candidate from North Central.

This, according to the stakeholders, would afford the party to win the 2023 presidential elections and positions it as a party known for fairness, equity and justice.

This was the major resolution of the North East APC Stakeholders Coalition in Abuja on Sunday, at a well attended emergency meeting.

Stakeholders from the North West had clamoured for the position of vice president, urging the party to nominate one of their own as running mate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential flagbearer of the party in the 2023 general elections.

Addressing newsmen after a successful stakeholders meeting in Abuja Sunday afternoon, Alhaji Abba Aji Suleiman, National Coordinator of North East APC Stakeholders Coalition, faulted the demand of their North Western counterparts, describing it as "not only misplaced, but a gross display of insensitivity to the relevance of other regions in the scheme of things in the party".

The coalition argued that, "the North West Region had been within the corridor of power in the last seven years of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, and for such demand to be made indeed speak volume of gross insensitivity.

"It is the considered view of stakeholders in the North East that it would only be fair and just if the vice-presidential slot goes to the North Central, given the numerous contributions of the region to the growth and development of the party.

"The stakeholders must come to terms with the fact that the North Central region hasn't had a shot at the highest level of governance since the return of democracy in 1999. This time has presented that unique opportunity that must be utilized in the party's best interest.

"The North-West APC Stakeholders must also realize that the overarching objective of the party is to secure a landslide victory at the polls, and if that is indeed the case, would it make any sense if a region that has been represented adequately in the last ten years, would also demand the vice-presidential slot".

Speaking further, Alhaji Suleiman stressed that, "unless the stakeholders of our great party in the North West want us to believe that the North Central is not deserving of producing the vice-presidential candidate hence the demand for the vice-presidential slot.

"The stakeholders of the APC in the North East wish to use this medium to call on the leadership of our great party to ensure justice and fairness by providing that the vice presidential slot is given to the North Central".

He added that the North Central hasn’t had the opportunity to produce either the president or vice president, "despite the array of credible candidates in the region with excellent profiles and broad appeal across the country", urging the APC to consider the North Central for the position of vice president, as his region had already conceded, for equity sake.

All is now set for the All Progressives Congress to announce a substantive presidential running mate from the north-central zone.

This was after 19 northern states APC Youth Groups and Stakeholders, including north-west and north-east, nominated the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Rev. Yakubu Pam as its preferred number 2 to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The group, which made this known on Thursday at a press conference in Abuja, said it came to the conclusion to zone the ticket to the middle-belt and subsequently settled for Pam after an exhaustive consultation for the purpose of equity, justice and fairness.

According to a statement signed by its convener, Alhaji Abubakar Isah, Secretary Hon Mutazu Kabiru Adamu and the heads of 19 states, the groups said the choice of north central is strategic, a reward for its critical role in the country during elections.

On its reason for backing Pam, the APC youths and stakeholders said the respected Christian cleric is a bridge builder with an extensive network in Northern Nigeria.

The group said he “ is viewed as a trusted ally who hasn’t failed to exhibit sincerity of heart and purpose in his assignment geared towards peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding amongst the various religious and ethnic groupings”.

“We believe such a move it’s not only to reward the north central for its loyalty and cooperation with the rest of the north west but, also the fact that the North Central parades one of the best brains to galvanize the much needed stakeholders’ cooperation in the northern part of the country”, the statement said.

“Consequently the unanimous endorsement of Rev Yakubu Pam is an indication of his level of acceptance in the North West owing to his sterling track record in service and his numerous contributions to peace and tranquility in Northern Nigeria and the country at large.

“Rev Yakubu Pam indeed has garnered administrative experience that spans decades in active service to the country and humanity. This much has been evident in the numerous positions of authority he occupied that includes but not limited to the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the 19 Northern states, to mention but a few.

“The 19 Northern APC Youth Groups and Stakeholders Forum wishes to use this medium to place it on record that the choice of Rev Yakubu Pam as the vice presidential candidate of the APC would indeed bring the needed balance and harmony the party requires to coast to victory at the presidential elections.

“Rev Yakubu Pam is a bridge builder with an extensive network in Northern Nigeria. He is viewed as a trusted ally who hasn’t failed to exhibit sincerity of heart and purpose in his assignment geared towards peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding amongst the various religious and ethnic groupings.

“He also presents a strong credential of loyalty, dedication and patriotism, which in our considered opinion is a functional criteria needed for the Office of the Vice President given the sensitivity of the office.

“We wish to place it on record that Rev Yakubu Pam’s candidature will unite all warring factions in Northern Nigeria, because of the tremendous respect he commands from all and sundry for his numerous contributions to the sustenance of peace and tranquility.

“We have no reservation with regards the ability of Rev Yakubu Pam to be of great asset to the APC during and after the elections because he is reliable and a man of vision and impeccable character, who matches his words with action and one that is never shy to speak power to the truth.

“In the light of the above enumerated facts, we wish to call on all interested parties in the vice presidential slot from North West and North East to shield their ambition and throw their support for Rev Yakubu Pam in the overarching objective of securing electoral victory for the party at the presidential elections”.

The group, therefore, called on the Progressive Governors to in “good conscience support the nomination of Rev Yakubu Pam as the vice presidential candidate of the APC”.

They added that, “This is on the heels that he is from the north central, he is young and energetic; he is a man of repute and character, whose acceptability cuts across religion and ethnicity”.

The 19 Northern APC Youth Groups and Stakeholders, however, urged the leadership of the APC to do all necessary to ensure that Rev Yakubu Pam is nominated as the vice presidential candidate of the party.

Politics / Steer Clear From Rescheduled Illegal APC Primaries In Benue, PDP Warns INEC by Enny8: 11:11am On Jun 10, 2022

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to steer clear from the rescheduled primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, describing it as "illegal".

APC national headquarters had transmitted a letter to INEC headquarters, Abuja, informing the umpire that it would hold primaries in 12 out of 23 local government areas of the state, since the gubernatorial primaries earlier held by the party was canceled.

The letter written on the 7th June, 2022 and was received by INEC on the 9th June, 2022, was signed by Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, National Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

In the said letter, a copy of which was sighted by this newspaper, APC said it would be holding primaries in the affected areas for both governorship and House of Assembly on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th June, 2022, though the letter was acknowledged, a day after the rescheduled primaries.

The PDP, in its letter to the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Benue State, on Thursday and signed by Hon. (Sir) John Ngbede and Hon. John Nyam (Ph.D), Benue Chairman and Secretary respectively, cited various sections of extant laws to buttress violations of guidelines by the APC, while citing similar scenario in Imo PDP where INEC turned down invitation to honour party Congress.

"It has come to our knowledge that, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rescheduled the conduct of her Governorship/State Assembly Primaries for Wednesday/Thursday (08-09/06/2022) in twelve (12) out to the twenty-three (23) local government areas in the state, (see Appendix 'A' as attached).

"The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Benue State Chapter, hereby protests this conduct for the following reasons.

"It violates Article 1.2 of the Commission's (INEC) Regulations and Guidelines for Political Party Operations which requires at least seven (7) days' notice for such exercise. In effect, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had violated Section 148 of the Electoral Act, 2022 which empowers the Commission (INEC) to issue regulations, guidelines or manuals for purpose of giving effect to the provisions of the Act and for its administration;

"We state on good authority that there is no correspondence from the INEC headquarters in Abuja instructing your office to monitor the rescheduled primaries;

"Refer to INEC's letter to PDP in respect of Imo State rescheduled Congresses which ordered for compliance with the above cited provision. (Attached as Appendix 'B')", the letter reads in part.

The PDP further stated that, "on account of the above cited violations of the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines, we pray that your office should steer clear of monitoring the illegal exercise by the APC in Benue State".

It would be recalled that, the APC guber appeal panel had last week, recommended the outright cancelation of the primaries held at the state on the 28th May, 2022, following multiple petitions and presentations by majority of the contestants before the appeal, alluding that there was no primaries.

Subsequently, the opposition party rescheduled primaries to be held in Ogbadibo, Okpokwu, Apa, Agatu, Ado, Ohimini, Oju, Obi, Konshisha, Buruku, Kwande and Ushongo local government areas of the state between Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, the election umpire is waiting for all political parties to submit list of candidates before 12 midnight of Thursday, 9th June, 2022.
