The Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Wednesday sentenced one Ayan Olubunmi to two years in prison and a fine N500,000 for posting nude pictures of his ex-lover, Arare Monica, on Facebook.

The case with the suit number FHC/AD/17c/2017 was between the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN and Ayan Olubunmi.

Counsel to the AGF, O.A. Oyewole disclosed to the court that Ayan had threatened to post nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend, Monica, on social media sometime in 2017, when the lady informed him she was no longer interested in the relationship.

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on Tuesday said while he is not against the choice of former Governor Peter Obi as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, he disliked the process leading to his (Obi) selection. Mr Umahi stated this in an interview with journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The governor faced a backlash when he led leaders of the party to complain against the selection process that threw up Mr Obi as vice presidential candidate of the party. Many accused him of sabotaging the interest of the Igbo nation.

Presidency ordered EFCC to detain Fayose indefinitely – PDP alleges



The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday alleged that the “Presidency has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to incarcerate, indefinitely,” the outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP claimed that the “information at the party’s disposal and all over the social media indicate that the Presidency has put the commission on alert to arrest the governor at midnight today and detain him indefinitely.”

PDP alleged that the directive by the “Presidency is not unconnected with the plot to use the EFCC and other security agencies to incarcerate the governor owing to his persistent criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government.”

The statement added, “This uncompromising stands of the outgoing governor against the present
administration was the reason Ekiti State was invaded and taken by force during the last governorship election.

“By 12 midnight, the governor’s residence is expected to be surrounded by armed men of the EFCC under the pretense that they had information of his plot to escape. This is to achieve their plan to humiliate the governor and portray him in bad light to the public by dramatising his arrest.

“Nigerians can recall that it was the governor who offered to submit himself to the EFCC despite the commission’s clear display of bias and partisanship as demonstrated in its various actions, especially its tweets and putting the governor on security watch-list.

“EFCC even unprofessionally showed its bias in deriding the governor, making light of a very serious matter by mocking him and asking him to come before his tenure elapsed, which the governor declined in line with the constitutional immunity.

“It is now beyond dispute that Governor Fayose is not a scoundrel running away from justice. Whatever the EFCC, APC, and the Presidency’s spin-doctors may say, it is also clear to everyone that Fayose is not a coward; neither is he afraid of the EFCC.

“Fayose is prepared and ready to defend himself in the court of law. Neither the Presidency nor EFCC is a court of law. Since the EFCC said it had dusted up Fayose’s files, it should be ready to take him to court once he presents him at the agency’s office on Tuesday.

“Governor Fayose has offered to walk to the EFCC office by himself and nothing must happen to him tonight. The PDP condemns this resort to fascism by the APC government, saying the whole world should be at alert to see another demonstration of crude disrespect for the rule of law and rights of Nigerians.”

Late Enugu CJ Innocent Umezulike Made No1 on Buhari Travel Ban List

Innocent Umezulike, former Enugu State CJ who was buried last month, is 1 of 50 banned by Buhari from traveling. Justice Professor I.A Umezulike was the Chief Judge of Enugu State for over 13 years, remarkably the longest serving Chief Judge in South Eastern Nigeria and the second longest serving Chief Judge in Nigeria.

Justice Professor Umezulike was an acclaimed legal luminary on Conveyancing, Adverse Possession, Land and Property Law haven single-handedly authored and published over 23 books in these fields. Justice Professor Umezulike passed away at a private hospital in London, United Kingdom surrounded by his beloved children. The family requests for privacy and respect at this very difficult time.

He was recommended for compulsory retirement by the National Judiciary Council, NJC, in 2016 following petitions against him by an Enugu based lawyer.

He was later dragged to High courts in Enugu and Port Harcourt by the Economic and financial crimes Commission, EFCC, and his bank accounts frozen over some of the allegations that brought about his forced exit from the Bench.

Breaking: US Department of Justice Denies having Criminal Records Against Atiku Abubakar

Following accusations of criminal conspiracy and and money laundering against the People Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the US Department of Justice has come out to set the records straight.

THE EASTERN TELEGRAPH reports that the justice department has denied having any criminal record that indicates that Atiku Abubakar has a pending lawsuit in the US.

In an email to THE EASTERN TELEGRAPH on Monday, a spokesperson for the US #DoJ, Peter Carr said,“Thank you for reaching out to us. I have checked the public court records, and they do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar."

This was stated as a response to our request for information on whether Atiku Abubakar is wanted in the US in connection with any issue of money laundering.

The mail also asked the department to confirm whether Abubakar has been banned from entering the US and if there is any court case against him concerning the Halliburton scandal which resulted in the conviction of a US lawmaker, William Jefferson.
