The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being biased in the 2023 election. 
 
Obi made the claim in response to a preliminary objection the commission filed in support of the President-elect and candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Bola Tinubu.
 
The Labour Party presidential candidate noted that both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal had in the past, cautioned INEC not to place itself “in a position where "imputation of partiality in favour of one party against one will be leveled against it”.

 
Asides from describing INEC's preliminary objection as “misconceived”, he also recalled that the apex court had in the case of Attorney General of the Federation V. Abubakar (2007) 10 NWLR (Pto 1041), emphasized that the electoral Commission must not only embrace neutrality as it’s watchword, but “must always remain fair and focused”.
 
Obi said; 
 
“The 1st Respondent, forgetting its role as an electoral umpire, gave a Notice of Preliminary Objection to challenge the alleged incompetence of the Petition.
“The global best practice for electoral umpires in national elections is that an electoral body must avoid creating the impression that it has no respect for neutrality in an electoral contest between candidates.

“The appellate courts have repeatedly admonished the 1st Respondent of its need to remain neutral in election proceedings. However, the 1st Respondent hereof, has remained impervious to change. 

“Therefore, it is not only an embarrassment but a repudiation of the duty of the 1st Respondent when it adorns the garb of a contestant in an election it conducted as an umpire to raise preliminary objection against an Election Petition as in the case hereof.
“The expectation is that INEC will maintain a neutral stance in all  litigations where participants in elections are challenging the outcome of the elections and not indulge in filling objections to the Petition."

The Labour Party (LP) has raised an alarm of Lamidi Apapa-led faction allegedly working to sabotage the petitions filed by the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other members at the tribunals.

The Comrade Julius Abure-led faction alleged that Lamidi approached election tribunals seeking to withdraw all cases involving the party’s candidates challenging the outcome of the 2023 general election which led to the declaration of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as President-Elect.

Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Pastor Obiora Ifoh who made the claim said; 

“Daily, the evil intention of the breakaway faction of the Labour Party led by the suspended deputy national chairman, Lamidi Apapa, continues to manifest and just this morning, our legal team was confronted by the stark revelation that these men have advanced their plot by approaching all the tribunals where our numerous candidates lodged their election petitions arising from the recently held general election.

“Their actions show that they are working against the party and that they are working to destroy the party. If they claim that they have a problem with the national leadership of the party, will they also claim that they have a problem with the candidates of the party?

“What offence have the candidates of the party committed that they are now moving around to withdraw their matters from the tribunal?

“The leadership of the Labour Party is therefore calling on the tribunals to disregard any letter emanating from our suspended national legal adviser, Samuel Akingbade, to the effect that all our cases are to be withdrawn.

“We are also calling on the presidential election tribunal to disregard such letters from these ex-officials of our party asking for the withdrawal of HE Peter Obi’s petition.”

The Lamidi Apapa-led faction has however dismissed the claim, insisting that it is a ploy by Abure to gain cheap public sympathy.

Actor Saint Von Colucci has d!ed at the age of 22 after undergoing twelve cosmetic surgeries over the course of a year in order to look like BTS singer Jimin. 

Colucci passed away early Sunday, April 23, at a South Korea hospital due to complications from his most recent procedure, his publicist, Eric Blake, told DailyMail.com on Monday, April 24. 

Von Colucci — who moved from Canada to South Korea in 2019 in pursuit of a career in entertainment — went under the knife on Saturday, April 22, to remove jaw implants he had put in last November. 

Following the operation, Van Colucci developed an infection and had to be intubated. He d!ed hours later. 

“It’s very tragic and very unfortunate,” Blake said, adding that his client “didn’t like” his “very square jawline and chin,” as he “thought it was too wide.” 

In the last 12 months, Von Colucci spent $220,000 on 12 surgeries, including a facelift, a nose job, an eye lift, an eyebrow lift and a lip reduction, among others. 

“He was very insecure about his looks,” Blake explained, specifying that Van Colucci was particularly “unhappy” with his face. 

Von Colucci’s original features included dark blond hair and blue eyes. He also stood tall at 6 feet and weighed 182 pounds. 

His publicist said he struggled to get a job because of his western looks which is why he went under the knife. 

Blake said: “It was very hard from him to get a job in South Korea. and he felt very discriminated against [because of] his Western looks.” 

According to Blake, Von Colucci filmed an eight-episode Korean drama series called “Pretty Lies” — natively tiled “Cogimar” — in which he played Jimin, the 27-year-old star of Grammy-nominated K-pop group BTS. 

Blake said that the show, which was in production from June to December 2022, is set to air on a major United States streaming service in October. 

“He was very, very excited and worked really hard,” Blake said.

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Calabar has called on the federal government to postpone the 2023 population and housing census billed to hold next month.

In a 9-point communique issued at the end of it’s 47th Annual Synod, the church held that there has been high level of insecurity in the country, which reason they called for suspension of the exercise.

They pointed out that some areas in the country are being occupied by Boko Haramists, bandits and other undesirable elements

The Synod noted the high unemployment rate in Nigeria and called on President Buhari to revive the economy.

They advised the youths and unemployed to engage in skills acquisition and employ same to earn dignified livelihood and escape the clutches of poverty and frustration.

The Synod frowned at the harsh economic situation in the country where majority of the citizenry exist on the breadline.

He explained further that these elements do visit mayhem and their reign of terror on the helpless inhabitants.

“Therefore, it would be impossible for the census enumerators to access such trouble spots.

“Synod calls for the putting on hold of the nationwide population census slated to commence on the 3rd May, 2023 pending when the security will improve”, the MCN said.

Actor Jonathan Majors has said that the man who was driving him and his now ex-girlfriend the night of their alleged assault will testify that he did not strike her.

In documents filed before a Manhattan court on Wednesday, April 19, Jonathan's attorney Priya Chaudhry also noted that there is video proof she was not injured when she went out to a club after the alleged altercation.

Chaundhry said the driver witnessed what went down between Jonathan and the woman back in March. According to the docs, around 1 AM, the driver saw the woman assault Majors "while she was attempting to steal his phone."

The driver will also testify Majors never struck the alleged victim "in any way at any time, or even raised his voice." Majors and his attorney also said the driver saw her "hitting, scratching, and attacking" Jonathan ... and that Jonathan asked the driver to stop the car, so he could escape her attack, which he did.

While the woman told the police that she suffered a broken finger and a laceration behind her ear during the altercation, Chaudhry described it as a "complete lie."

The lawyer also said they have hours of security videos showing the woman went clubbing and got drunk after Majors left her in the car and she also texted him, accusing him of infidelity and threatening suicide.

As for when she was out at a nightclub, Majors court filing includes screen shots of security video showing the woman freely using her right hand, which she claimed Majors injured.

In the videos, the actor's lawyer said she casually pushed her hair behind her right ear, reached into her bag several times, sorted through credit cards, handled phones, held a menu and a glass of champagne.

She was seen partying pretty hard, throwing back shots and champagne with friends without any visible sign of injury.

When her night out at the club was over, she reportedly showed up at Majors home at 3:23 AM, entered his apartment, called him 32 times and sent several angry, jealous text messages. Majors was not home when she got there.

Chaudhry said none of the text messages accused Jonathan of injuring her...

Chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Association, Musiliu Akinsaya, popularly known as Mc Oluomo, has banned collections of illegal taxes levied by agberos in some parts of the state following a protest by commercial bus drivers days ago. 

FIJ reported that it was part of his intervention in the conflict involving commercial drivers and highway tax collectors who target transporters in the state.

A driver told the publication; 

“Mc Oluomo told us Thursday afternoon when we held a meeting with him at the state council that no driver from Oshodi to Tollgate must be compelled to pay illegal agbero taxes anymore.

“We are only to buy two tickets in a day, after which we will not pay anything aside from loading fees.

“The normal ticket sold and approved by the Lagos State Park Management is just N800.

“He said those extra taxes imposed at Iyana Ipaja and Agbado Ijaiye were no longer valid. We can either buy our daily tickets in Oshodi or Tollgate, and either will be recognised.

“Afterwards, we will buy the council ticket and booking for security, which is about N500.”

“The union should only compel us to buy tickets from Monday to Friday. We should be given the chance to take something home to our families.”

The driver who also revealed that MC Oluomo donated N1 million to those who were injured during the attack on protesting drivers, said they are happy they'll be resuming their job “with minimal agbero disturbances.”

He said; 

“There are no more unbearable taxes. All we have to pay in a day is a little below N2,500 compared to the N20,000 we paid previously.”

Famous Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has disclosed that his fourth studio album’s title was suggested by veteran producer, Don Jazzy.

The singer, who revealed this while answering questions about his latest project, said the Mavin boss suggested the title ‘Timeless’ to him via Instagram message sometime last year.

He said he almost chose a different album name but eventually settled for ‘Timeless’, as suggested by Don Jazzy

“Funny enough, Jazzy actually Dmed me a year ago and suggested that I named my album ‘Timeless'”, Davido said.

Recall that Davido finally dropped his much-anticipated fourth studio album ‘Timeless’, on March 31, 2023, after the death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke delayed the initial release.

The 17-track album featured guest appearances from Grammy award-winning Beninese singer, Angelique Kidjo, British rapper, Skepta, Asake, Fave, Cavemen, and DMW’s latest signees; Morravey and Logos Olori

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dedicated the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state’s governorship election to God.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, March 20 declared the PDP candidate, Siminialayi Fubara, the governor-elect after he defeated runner-up Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Announcing the result in Port Harcourt, the Returning Officer said Fubara secured 302,614 votes while Pastor Tonye Cole, came second with a total number of 95,274 votes.

Wike, speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said it was “only God that could guarantee this kind of victory achieved by the party.”

Also Governor elect, Fubara promised to not disappoint the people of the state.

Nigeria Ranks 95th Happiest Nation Worldwide

Nigeria ranked 95th happiest nation in the world with 4.981 points, according to the latest edition of the World Happiness Report.

The report was released on Monday by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network as part of the United Nations’ International Day of Happiness on March 20.

The report’s focus is on happiness as measured by life evaluations and emotions, how they have evolved in crisis situations, and how people's lives have improved where trust, generosity, and supportive social connections have thrived.

It assigns a happiness score on a scale of zero to 10, based on an average over a three-year period.

Finland maintained its lead as the world's happiest country for the sixth year in a row, with a score significantly ahead of all other countries, while Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the ranking in a league table of 137 countries.

Denmark remains in second place as Iceland ranks third. Israel is ranked fourth, up five spots from last year.

The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland are ranked fifth through eighth. Luxembourg and New Zealand round out the top ten.

The 33-year-old woman, Ifeoma Ossai, who was arrested in Ogun State for allegedly causing the d€ath of her landlord by pulling his m@nhood, has denied the allegation.
 
The suspect was arrested on Saturday, March 11, 2023, following a report lodged at the Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters Sango Ota by Mr. Olaleye Taiwo, who stated that his brother, Monday Oladele, aged 50, had a quarrel with his tenant over the non payment of electricity bill.
 
In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Ms. Ossai denied grabbing the landlord’s manhood, saying that she was surprised that such a story could be formulated against her.

Ms Ossai, who hails from Ndukwa Local Government Area of Delta State, claimed that the landlord was making a call when he sl¥mped with his phone in his hand.

According to her, before this, she and the landlord’s wife had fought, which made him to start calling someone. She said that she had returned to her apartment when someone called her to come and see the landlord lying unconscious.
 
“I left Lagos State and started living in the house where the incident happened in June 2022. It’s a family house where four brothers were living in the main building while two of us who are tenants were in the apartments at the back. Their mother owns the house, while the one I had issues with was the eldest and referred to as landlord," she explained.

"I paid N230,000 for the one-room apartment I rented. The rented apartment was N110,000 while agency and agreement fees were put at N100,000. However, the agent that brought me to the house was asking for commission which the landlord refused to give, saying that he did not put any agent in charge. I was asked to pay extra N20,000 for the agent, totalling N230,000.
 
"There was no deep well or borehole that could provide water, and I told the landlord that I couldn’t pay that much for a room apartment without water. The landlord promised to provide water with the money tenants paid.

Hollywood actor, Lance Reddick, who got into the limelight after featuring in HBO's "The Wire" and the "John Wick" movie franchise, is d£ad. 

Lance's body was discovered at his Studio City home Friday morning, March 18, around 9:30 AM. His cause of d£ath is currently unclear, but it appears to be natural, according to the police.

He was reportedly doing a press tour for the fourth installment of the 'John Wick' franchise where he plays Charon. He was scheduled to make a guest appearance on Kelly Clarkson's show next week.

Lance was best known for playing fictional Baltimore Police Department officer Cedrick Daniels on the hit HBO series “The Wire”, with his character appearing in all five seasons.

He also had recurring roles on a bunch of popular TV shows including "Fringe," "Bosch," "Oz" and "Lost." He was also featured in "Angel Has Fallen" and "Godzilla Vs. Kong."

Lance has some unreleased projects in the works, he plays the Greek god Zeus in the upcoming Disney+ series, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

Born and raised in Baltimore, Lance earned a music degree from the University of Rochester and he got his MFA from Yale. Lance was 60.

Indonesian authorities on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, said they have arrested four foreigners including three Nigerians for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the country.

The Nigerian nationals were arrested separately between January and March at Soekarno-Hatta international airport in Jakarta and several apartments in the capital, police spokesperson Trunoyudo Wisnu Andika told a news conference in Jakarta.

One of the Nigerians arrested had allegedly swallowed dozens of capsules filled with more than a kilogram (2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine.

Indonesia is a major hub for drug trafficking in Southeast Asia and has strict drug laws, with convicted smugglers sometimes executed by firing squad.

Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, chief of customs at Soekarno-Hatta, said officers arrested Malachi Onyekachukwu Umanu, a Nigerian who arrived at the airport from Ethiopia on March 5 with no suitcase or bag.

His suspicious behavior prompted officers to check his body, and an X-ray turned up some 64 capsules inside his stomach. Authorities managed to force all the capsules, which were filled with a total of 1.07 kilograms (2.3 pounds) of crystal methamphetamine, out of his stomach within three days, Wibowo said.

Customs officers at the airport also arrested a Brazilian man, Gustavo Pinto da Silveira, shortly after he arrived from Rio de Janeiro in early January, carrying a backpack, suitcase and surfboard. He initially refused to let officers test the contents of liquids in his luggage.

His resistance led officers to further investigate the substance, which was stored in six toiletry bottles and had a strong odor. Lab tests confirmed the fluid was 2 liters (67.6 ounces) of liquid cocaine. Police said it was $1.3 million.

Police also arrested two other Nigerian nationals along with an Indonesian man and woman who tried to smuggle 1.04 kilograms (2.2 pounds) of crystal meth from India wrapped in lace fabric through a post office in Jakarta.

Mukti Juharsa, the police director of drug investigations in the capital, He said the suspects would be punished according to Indonesia’s strict narcotics law, with a minimum of five years’ imprisonment and a potential d£ath sentence.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is suffering from nutrient deficiency and heart ailments.

The secessionist group made the claim in a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, on Tuesday, March 14. They challenged the DSS to prove them wrong by allowing Kanu’s physician attend to him.

The statement read; 

“A common sense question for the DSS is whether anyone is ever fine in their solitary confinement facility, especially someone they have refused a change of clothes, refused his praying shawl and denied access to his doctor when they are fully aware that he has a health issue.

“If DSS claimed that Kanu is adequately being taken care of and that IPOB and his lawyers are deceiving the public for sympathy, they should allow unfiltered access to his physician to investigate his present health status.

“It is imperative to deliver this message to the public that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s health condition is still deteriorating inside DSS solitary confinement as a result of poor or lack of medical attention and feeding.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has an unresolved nutrient deficiency. He also has an ear and heart condition that requires urgent surgery. DSS should release MNK unconditionally as ordered by the court or take him to specialists for proper medical examination and treatment. Recruiting media dogs to attack IPOB, MNK, and his legal team will not exonerate them should anything bad happen to our leader.”

Also reacting to claim of IPOB lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor allegedly working against Kanu, Powerful said; 

“How could someone with a sane mind say that Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who has been under serious attacks from DSS and the Nigeria Army, is working against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or IPOB?”

Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner, who appeared for an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, March 12, said no BVAS machine will be reconfigured without the data being uploaded to the “accreditation backend”.
 
Okoye also said the commission has learnt lessons on the challenges of the BVAS machines during the presidential elections.
 
He said; 
 
“As at the last time I checked, over 170,000 of those results have been uploaded. 

“As you are aware, we are reconfiguring the BVAS for purposes of the governorship and state assembly elections, and any BVAS that was used for the presidential and national assembly elections that do not push to the accreditation backend, the data relating to the conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections will not be reconfigured.

“In fact, the BVAS will not allow itself to be reconfigured or reset if the entire data is not pushed to the accreditation backend.

“I’m sure that by Tuesday when we hope to complete the resettling of the BVAS for the purposes of the governorship and state assembly elections, the results in all the places where elections were conducted would have been pushed to the accreditation backend.”

A 24-year-old Nigerian man, Gideon Vitallis, has been arr€sted by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for allegedly m¥rdering a cash point operator, Patience Ago Quaye, at the Twumasiwaa Memorial Clinic in Accra, Ghana. 
 
32-year-old Patience Quaye, who worked at the centre was allegedly found d€ad in a store room at the facility on Wednesday, March 8, after she had been missing for days.
 
The mother of one reportedly went to work on the night of Monday, March 6, 2023, at the facility located at Otinshie in the Adenta Municipality but did not return home. After failed attempts to reach her, the family reported the issue to the police. 
 
The police, together with the family went to the medical centre in search of Patience and discovered her body after breaking into the Administration Room where they smelled an unpleasant odour.
 
According to the family, the position in which the body was found suggested she might have been strangled.
 
Confirming the arrest, DailyGuide Ghana said the suspect visited the hospital where he was once a store keeper but was fired for stealing, having come to Ghana in 2021.
 
He sneaked back to the hospital targeting the cash point for money, and after spotting Patricia, who had just closed from work, he confronted her. The lady went missing and could not be traced.
 
According to the report, the suspect used the deceased’s phone to send a message that she had been kidnapped, and demanded a ransom of GH¢20,000, issuing an ultimatum of 24 hours for the money to be paid. 
 
This attracted the attention of the NIB operatives who were ordered to deploy because of the k!dnapping element in the crime. The security personnel got information from the hospital that a dead body had been found within the hospital and so went into action.
 
The hospital authorities later sent information about discovering the remains of Patience Ago Quaye.
 
Intelligence indicated that the suspect left his Accra Madina location for Koforidua, where he was traced and arrested at the Koforidua Central Market.
 
During interrogation on March 11, 2023, the suspect gave a graphic description of how the deceased d!ed.

A 63-year-old Kenyan man with eight wives and seven mistresses has said he is too smart to be managed by one woman.

David Zakayo Kalukhana, from Teresia Village on the edge of Kakamega County, has sired 107 children with his wives and concubines.

Kalukhana first got married in 1987 but he felt he needed more

"A head like mine cannot be managed by one woman. It is like a big sack of maize which has to be divided into smaller parts for ease of movement. I need many wives so that they can manage the amount of brains and ideas in my head. I am too smart for one wife,” Mr Kalukhana told the Sunday Nation.

Mr Kalukhana said he owns a half-acre parcel of land on which he grows some maize to feed his family. He also farms sugarcane.

To provide for his large family, Mr Kalukhana does menial jobs, including landscaping activities.

In his compound are three semi-permanent houses with iron sheet roofs and mud walls.

"I have wives in different places, including in the neighbouring Nandi County,” said Mr Kalukhana.

Every month, Mr Kalukhana has to buy five bags of maize, which is distributed to his wives to ensure the children do not sleep hungry.

"When I’m not farming, I go out to do menial work, including constructing stone fences around people’s homes. The work is well-paying and it has helped me make some money to keep my family going. They will never sleep hungry as long as I’m alive,” said Mr Kalukhana.

The polygamist says nothing stops him from marrying more young wives to be part of his family.

"When I married my first wife Jesca Asembo in 1987, I felt like she was not up to the task. I have added more but I still have the urge to add more,” said Mr Kalukhana.

"All my children of school going age attend school. I toil daily to raise money to ensure they are in school to get an education for their future,” said Mr Kalukhana.

"I don’t believe in religion. I live my life through my own intervention because I am a genius,” he said

The wives, who are from different age groups, cook together, eat together and share their food.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old security guard, Barnabas Job, over the alleged murd£r of a 26-year-old housemaid, Thereza Ekibi. 

The spokesman of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development to journalists on Sunday, March 12, 2023, said that the housemaid was allegedly murd£r£d in her bedroom by the suspect at the same house they both work and live at Country Home Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos. 

According to the PPRO, the cutlass used by the suspect was recovered with a bl00dstain in it.

He said that the suspect, who confessed to the crime, had been taken to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, alongside the cutlass for investigation. 

It was further gathered that the suspect tried to woo the victim but when she turned him down, he became angry, picked a cutlass and hacked her to d£ath. 

He attempted to escape after k!lling her but was held by neighbours, who then contacted the police at Ikota Division. 

The deceased was said to hail from Wanikade town in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State and took up the job as a house help before she was murd£r£d on March 5, 2023.

Man inserts Love Machine in male neighbours butt as punishment after he caught him in his bedroom with his wife

A 28-year-old Zimbabwean man identified as Desire Moyo has been arraigned before a Bulawayo regional magistrate, Dambudzo Malunga, after a bizzare att@ck he carried out against his 22-year-old co-tenant, Tendai Govere. 

Desire allegedly ass@ulted and v!olated Tendai after discovering him in his bedroom with his wife. It was reported that Desire’s wife, Patience Ncube, called Tendai into their bedroom. After initially hesitating, Tendai eventually agreed and visited her in the evening when Desire was not around.

However, things quickly turned sour when Desire unexpectedly returned and caught the two together in his bedroom.

Desire began ass@ulting Tendai with a leather belt and his fists, causing him to bl££d profusely.

To add to the horror of the situation, Desire handcuffed Tendai, continued the assault, removed his trouser and inserted a s£x toy into his rear for two long hours while recording a video of the brut@lity.

Tendai got quite lucky as other co-tenants came to his aid, phoning the Khumalo Police Station who swiftly reacted and arrested Desire. Constance Mathaba represented the State during the court proceedings.

B-metro reported that Desire was charged with two counts of assault and aggravated indecent assault, but he pleaded not guilty to both charges. Despite his plea, he was remanded in custody until Tuesday next week when his trial will commence.

A five-month-old baby and the mother have been k!lled by generator fume they inhaled overnight in their residence in the Owo town of Ondo state on friday night, March 10. 
 
Vanguard reports that the family purchased the generator on Monday, March 6, and it caused their d€ath on Friday night.
 
The d€ceased identified as Tawa, and her husband were staffers of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo.  
 
Tawa was said to have called her elder sister on Thursday evening, to inform her that her baby was sick and that she would be bringing the baby to her.
 
It was gathered that when the sister got to Tawa's place of work at about 1pm, she was told that neither her Tawa nor the husband was at work. The d€ceased’s elder sister and the couple’s co-workers reportedly went to their house and met the door locked.
 
They had to break in and then found them lying unconscious, while the baby was d€ad. They were rushed to the FMC, where the wife later d!ed, while the husband is said to be in critical condition.
 
The state police command is yet to comment on the sad development.

Naira scarcity: Journalist slumps and d!es while trekking to his office in Ibadan

An Ibadan-based radio presenter popularly known as Baba Bintin slumped and d!ed on his way to work in the early hours of Saturday, March 11.

According to reports, the deceased was on his way to the Fresh FM station where he had a program with the duo of Komolafe Olaiya and Olalomi Amole at Ayefele Music House, Challenge, Ibadan, Oyo State capital when he slumped and d!ed.

DailyTrust reports that Baba Bintin was said to have been trekking from Amuloko area where he lived to Challenge as a result of his inability to get cash for transportation to the studio.

Olalomi Amole and Komolafe Olaiya had ended their Saturday morning program, Oyin Adun, abruptly 20 minutes ahead of time when they received the call about the medical emergency of Baba Bintin.

Nigerians have been battling with the scarcity of the Naira notes since February. The scarcity came as a result of the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)

The CBN had redesigned N200, N500 and N1000 and phased the old notes out of circulation, but some governors had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the apex bank’s action.

Following the court ruling on old notes, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered that only N200 old notes should remain legal tender. However, the court on March 3, ruled that old N500 and N1000 notes should remain legal tender till December2023.

The Federal government and the CBN are yet to comply with the order, causing the scarcity of the Naira notes to linger.

A Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced a 42-year-old woman, Victoria Enwerem (Anosike) to multiple jail terms for stealing five children in Onitsha. 

Enwerem was arraigned in Court on a-3 count charge: conspiracy to steal children; fraudulently enticing away and harbouring children, and forcefully isolating the children from the lawful possession of their parents, punishable under the Criminal Code, Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 1991, and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition and Protection) Laws of Anambra State, 2017 respectively.

The five stolen children were between the ages of 9, 7, 3 ,10, and 8 years old.

Delivering judgement on the case, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Genevieve Osakwe stated that the defendant had been found guilty of all the three charges brought against her.

The Chief Magistrate noted that, based on the the oral testimonies of the defendant herself and the submissions of the plaintiff witnesses, as well as, other materials placed before the Court, in respect of the case, there were overwhelming pieces of evidence against the defendant, and the prosecutor had proved his case beyond reasonable doubts.

She slammed Enwerem with 4 years imprisonment in count 1; 8 years imprisonment in count 2; and a term of 6 months imprisonment in court 3, and declared, declaring that all the sentences would run concurrently, without option of fine.

According to the police prosecutor who prosecuted the case, Victoria Enwerem (Anosike) in September 2022, conspired with one Oluchi Ahamefula, now at large, to steal children at the popular MCC Junction, Onitsha, Anambra State, with a view to moving the children to an unknown destination, but luck ran out on her, when she was caught by officers of the Nigerian Police Force, who were on stop and search operation, at Oraifite in Anambra State.

She was granted bail, but jumped bail and  was later tracked and apprehended at a remote part of Ebonyi State, in possession of two other underaged kids, who she allegedly stole from their parents.

Men of Ogun State Police Command on Friday, March 10, arrested 45-year-old Semiu Adegesin, pictured above, for his contributory negligence that led to the d€ath of a 3-year-old girl, Esther Samuel. 
 
A statement by the spokesperson of the police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Imasayi Divisional Headquarters that a 13-year-old boy identified as Ope Babalola shot and k!lled the deceased with a dane gun at Kukudi Village, Imasayi. 
 
‘’Upon the information, the DPO Imasayi division, SP Arowojeun Michael, quickly led his detectives to the scene where the deceased was met in the pool of her own blood.  Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect Semiu Adegesin loaded his dane gun, and carelessly kept it in an open place at the backyard of the house where children used to play. It was there the 13-year old Ope Babalola picked the loaded gun, pointed it at the deceased and pulled the trigger.''

Oyeyemi said the deceased was quickly taken to General Hospital Ilaro, where she was confirmed d€ad by the doctor on duty. He added that the owner of the dane gun was promptly arrested and taken to the station for interrogation. 
 
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, who described the incident as unfortunate, sympathized with the deceased's family and appealed for calm as the case will be properly investigated.  The CP has directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation
