Well, i slept on this thread literally. As i kept reading and reading i noticed that we believe in what we can't see. Even the atheist. We all believe in Gravity, yet we can't see it. Scientists came up with an explanation of how gravity works, gave us proofs on it absence . We were taken to space to see what we can and can't do with gravity. We believe them. Now, we are asking if we are alone on earth and beyond. I don't know much about "beyond" but i know about earth. We are not alone on earth. Believe it or not. You, atheists don't believe in metaphysical / diabolic beings or power yet you believe in gravity. Atheist are like the modern day doubthing Thomas(no offence). Well, i'm talking from experience. I have seen things! I have seen other forms of beings. We Africans are aware of these beings but we choose to "overate" and give them "undue" powers.

Somewhere in a book. I read about some form of beings living above the earth's atmosphere.

am not an atheist, I believe in a creator as a deist I don't have any religion or believe in spirits,it might all be true but am just too empirical to believe stuffs like this.

It does sometimes.. i have spent time a lot on NL religion treating many of these... Am an atheist as you may have noticed...

But when am discussing science in the "science section" i just let it slide... I saw it as just a way he expressed himself and approval based on his own set of ideas governing his general view..

I liked and shared it even though am atheistic

any how shall am a deist,I believe in god but despise religion especially Islam and Hindi too unscientific, infact I wonder why people still dey that religion,I like the bible but no evidence,but I still read it becus I saw some scientific things there oh.but it is historically empty but some events have been confirmed shall, becus am deep in archeology, but am just too scientific for all those things.I guess we have entertain them to move this section forward,I just did a rethink and I think u are right oh,u go ba that girl don run comot.

I completely understand you, yet I try to always keep an open man. After the theory of circumnavigation of the earth was proven, the so called Earth is flat theory fell....well flat (pun intended).

I don't think we are alone. The universe is just too big to be conquered. To conquer it is to become God which is very impossible. What I am actually against is these scientist trying to send out signals to the unknown and we become invaded by advanced beings and made to farm yam and cocoa....heard a space ship was sent to pluto to take pictures!!! Imagine the number of years it took. Mean while, I don't want to be colonised by green people. The British have done their worst already

But then again, what we humans define as "basic necessities " for lifeforms to thrive upon may not be what another planet billions of lightyears away may define it. A dark planet for example (a planet without an illuminating star like the sun, may have complex lifeforms thriving who may have appendages, exoskeletons or whatever that requires the absence of light, or water for that matter. They may not even have a spoken language as we define it here, yet they can communicate. Limbs, but have their own ability to be mobile etc.
What may seem "normal" here should not be viewed as "abnormal" elsewhere amply because we have restricted our levels of definitions.
It may sound paradoxical as I am a Christian but I believe in the possibility of complex lifeforms currently existing in other planets not weighed down by man's definition of basic requirements for life.

Science gives a prize to anyone who can show it where it is wrong and correct it we call it NOBEL prize.. am sure you will earn one if you do.

The black race WILL never meet up. Of course, there will be individuals within the race that break the convention of backwardness, think Ben Carson, Wole Soyinka, Nelson Mandela, Chike Obi (to mention but a few), maybe you o me. Science thrives on "Ignorance and unanswered questions"... If you cannot say "I do not know" you cannot use the scientific method..

There are many premises as regards everything in this world that science always maintains "I do not know" status until they find out..

Acceptance of Ignorance fuels study because you cannot learn what you do not accept not to know... Science agrees it doesn't know that's why it is science and the thesis and theories you see around are all rewards of consistent and unrelenting study by men who were pushed by the fact that they didnt know.. they set out to know..

Science does not aim at establishing immutable dogmas but through consistent study vies to reach a truthful approximation without at any point claiming abslute truth has been reached.

I see 'science' as the most humbling of all ..

nice view u got there.evolution for instance am still confuse about that lot I mean I know it but I still have questions for it which it can not answer ,there are also evidence against it but it seems modern science just swept it away and made it a fact.

Einstein may be wrong about the speed limit of the universe. He already is wrong about the largest size of a structure in the universe. Check that out. The appeal of science is that no one, no book, no reference is 100% right.

I understand that we must stick to what we now know in hopes of discovering the unknown, which is why I am quick to point people to talk in less-definite terms. The speed of light is the speed limit of the "OBSERVABLE" universe. Omitting observable makes the statement untrue in a purely technical sense. Cause for a while we were unable to pick up radio waves even though they have been there all along. There may be something faster than light that we just do not have the ability to ascertain at the moment.

In any case, to the issue of the thread, I surmise that I will be very surprised if we are alone in the universe. I beats reason. It may well be that our form of life may be restricted to Earth, but another form of life should exist elsewhere. UFOs are real although the scientific community, me included, would prefer to exercise extreme caution on the concept.

Speculations are interesting playground tools for creative and imaginative minds. It is very important that we seek answers though, for only then do we really become alive. If not for DARPA, this beauty called the Internet would never have been developed, nor would the geo-positional marvel called GPS be developed.

It is doubly unfortunate that sub-saharan Africa as expected is way behind on all of these. Some say we have a lot on our plate, but when the Greek philosophers, Arabian/Indian mathematicians, Mayan/Aztecs astrologers were pushing the frontiers of objective reasoning, wars, conquest, and barbarism flourished unabated. The black race as a people must stop the excuses, abandon mediocrity, and chart their own course.

Scattered around this thread are smart minds. Unfortunately, a single tree cannot make a forest. Many minds here would have been of more use to planet earth and mankind if they had a different skin color or were born in more civilized societies.

While we search for life outside Earth, let us remember that life on Earth, especially on this part of the divide is to put it frankly "DESPICABLE" and not worth living. Changing that is not something I would bet my life on, but I would rather try than chalk it up as an attempt that is dead on arrival.
