Business / Is Your Business On The Right Side Of History? by Escobar1(m): 8:15am On Sep 18, 2019
IS YOUR BUSINESS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY?

“Television won’t be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first six months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night”, said Darryl Zanuck from 20th Century Fox in 1946.

(I guess the world never got tired of the plywood box).

Some of us still remember the era of the VCRs and VHS tapes; and the entire value chain built around it.

Back then in Lagos, Nigeria, the video clubs were cool; and the number of rentals you made were something of a bragging right - we had more VHS tapes in our school bags than books.

Now in 2019, ask around, and you would be surprised at the number of people in your work space who simply don't know what you talking about. (The discussion might even be as contentious as the actual existence of dinosaurs).

Apparently, companies like Sanyo, Toshiba, Best Value and the others fell on the wrong side of history for not embracing emerging technologies when it came to how we store and share media files. (We have since seen several evolutions; and rental services like Video Marts have been replaced by Netflix, Iroko etc).

According to the Jeremy Johnson, CEO and Co-Founder of Andela, they are laying off 400 junior developers across Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda as the company shifts its approach to more senior developers to meet the need of the market.
He said “we started Andela five years ago to solve a simple but pervasive global challenge: Brilliance is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not. While our mission will never change, our strategy to achieve it has evolved as we’ve grown and learned more about both our market as well as the structural challenges that prevent brilliance and opportunity from connecting…..read more: https://www./KolanutAfrica/permalink/1192640907589310/

Business / Why You Don't Achieve Your Goals: by Escobar1(m): 11:52am On Sep 10, 2019
WHY YOU DONT ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS:

The beginning of every year is often marked by the setting of goals and objectives; from personal to corporate goals; it's a ritual that dates back to..*.I guess the very age we discovered the concept of the calendar.*

Given the above, no surprises the beginning of the year is also often marked by countless trainings and workshops to help people effectively set "smart" goals. (Demand and supply you would say).

But what is often surprising, given the level of preparation, is how people abandone their goals few months, sometimes days, into the new year.

This really raises several questions;

*Were those goals really SMART? And if "yes" what went wrong?*

Business / How To Print Your Own Money: by Escobar1(m): 12:20pm On Sep 07, 2019
HOW TO PRINT YOUR OWN MONEY:

I guess the first thing that came to your mind was is "Printing Your Own Money Legal?"

The answer is "Yes."

And what makes it better is you don't need a minting machine nor worry about the cops bursting you.

This is entirely legit and simply a guide to helping you turn an opportunity to "Bank Alerts."

So follow me:

1. OPPORTUNITY: Every problem around you is an opportunity to create value; and people pay for value. We all need cement to build our houses but guess what, cements dont grow on trees. Meaning the availability of building material is a problem and an opportunity for someone (a Dangote).

2. Solution: We all don't have to first make our cements before building our houses so Dangote creates value by putting together limestone, chalk, clay and other raw materials to make cements. And for that we give Dangote our money for some of his cements. So, for those problems you have identified, what solutions do you have?

3. Product: It's not alone to have a solution, you need to package it into a product that solves your customers particular needs. Dangote after producing his cements put them in bags for sale to the market.

Career / why Should You Be Hired? by Escobar1(m): 3:19pm On Aug 06, 2010
When was the last time you sat for a Job test, or an interview, And what did you think your chances were
You probably had over 500 people hustling for that same position, why would they pick you??

These are few, amongst many, questions that sweats the minds of many job seekers; and how well, and confidently, can "thyself" provide answers.

If you were the HRM would you hire you for that position

Lets agree you graduated from school with a good grade(experiences has shown grades only hold prior to the first invitation), and you speak good english(so many others do), the question is: Who r u, what are your competencies, and what are the value additions you are promising

Your first answers to the HRM are in your CVs, cover letters and other application docs; after which he decides whether to give you an invite for that Job or not.

How appropriate are your docs for this particular job, or you just forwarded an earlier sent item

Is this job in line with your career path/goal(note: your career path must not necessary be a derivative of your first degree), or is it simply for self-preservation

Agreed, you need a job, but what are your justification for employment

Job Opportunities are few these days, but how sad it is when you find one and meet it with unpreparedness.

What i recommend: Prepare and Pray!!!

PS: i also recommend new job seekers should watch "The Apprentice,", it is quite educating!!!
