PoliticsWhat Nigerians Are Saying About Buhari’s Promise To Help Ghana Fight Corruption by Estar01(op): 12:32pm On Mar 07, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

Nigerians on social media have reacted to report of President Muhammadu Buhari promising to help Ghana fight corruption.

Buhari had during his visit to Ghana on her 61st Independence Anniversary celebrations, which held at the Independence Square, promised to help the country in its fight against corruption.

Ghanaians have since reacted to the Nigeria’s President’s promise, asking him to go and fight a snake that allegedly swallowed 36 million naira ($102,409, the cedis equivalent of over 470,000 cedis from the office of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Meanwhile, here are some reactions by Nigerians on social media:

@africanfact, “Nigeria, which is ranked at number 148 out of 180 on Transparency International’s CPI (Corruption Perceptions Index) 2017 has pledged to help fight corruption in Ghana, which is placed at number 81 out of 180!!!

@rogue__kvng, “So this Nigeria we live in now is fighting corruption in Ghana. How did Buhari convince you people to vote for him. Buhari, greatest con artist Nigeria has ever produced.”

@Mariam_soalio, “Corruption in Ghana is blowing faster than @PatapaaGh one corner.”

@Ndlimo “Them rushing to solve corruption in Ghana. Them solving it at home.”

@ceno_ken “Are u serious? Nigeria help to fight corruption or help to increase corruption in Ghana?”

@shakibobor “President Buhari has totally failed Nigerians now a friend with another albatross in Ghana.”

PoliticsGov. Wike’s Taste For Lies Might Destroy Him – Peterside by Estar01(op): 12:05pm On Mar 06, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

Dakuku Peterside, the Director General of Nigeria Maritime Authority has said that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has penchant for lying.

Peterside, who was a former gubernatorial aspirant in Rivers state said this in response to a statement attributed to Wike that he did not build a single road to his council, Opobo/Nkoro during his time as Commissioner of Works under Rotimi Amaechi.

He said that the governor’s penchant for lying would destroy him.

The statement reads: “I served as commissioner for Works in Rivers State, at a time when one of the pillars of the administration was infrastructural development. Dr Peter Odili’s administration, through the instrumentality of then Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby, initiated the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road, a total of 37 kilometres, with 10 bridges and many culverts. Unfortunately, the administration was winding up, so could only do two bridges and got the road to Iwoama Asarama, achieving 26 percent of the total job scope.

“That was the point we met the road. At the insistence of the Amanyanabo of Opobo and the people of Nkoro, we did a new alignment to Nkoro, taking it to Kalaibiama and from there to Opobo Town, thus introducing the Nkoro-Kalaibiama-Opobo town alignment of 11.5 kilometres and four bridges.

“With the change in alignment, the unity road became 44.09 kilometres, as against 37.7 kilometres awarded by the Odili administration in 2005. In all, six bridges were completed under my watch and two bridges (Nos 9 and 10) were at 70 percent and 50 percent completion, at the end of the Amaechi administration in 2015.

“We started driving to Nkoro Town and I drove down to Kalaibiama Town in Opobo to campaign in 2015. This is the true situation of things, which Rivers people know, especially those from Andoni and Opobo. Similarly, those from Ikuru Town could drive home, I did that with the then Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, many times.”

PoliticsElection Re-ordering Bill Is From Hell – MURIC Attacks National Assembly by Estar01(op): 11:49am On Mar 06, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) says that the recent election re-ordered bill by the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) is from hell.

MURIC, however, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to withhold his signature.

Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC Director, said this in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday.

“The Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) recently reordered the election sequence which has been in operation in the country since 1999. In the new bill, NASS wants the national exercise which has always started with the presidential election, to start with elections into the NASS.

“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) roundly rejects the proposed amendment of election sequence. It is belated, parochial, myopic, self-seeking, extravagant and unpatriotic. The bill is an attempt to usurp functions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and intimidate the electoral body. Reordering is a threat to democracy. It is a bill from hell. Mr. President should withhold his signature.

“By seeking to kick-start the elections with that of the NASS, Nigeria’s lawmakers have demonstrated their intention to call attention to themselves. They are therefore more interested in benefiting themselves instead of benefiting the country. At a time the country is reeling under a harsh economic situation, a proposal which extends the election from two-phases to three phases and adds an extra cost amounting to a whopping two billion naira is nothing short of a manifestation of a prodigal son mentality.

“Nigerians should think about what this extra N2 billion can do for the country. The Federal Government recently confirmed that it pumped N2 billion into the second Niger Bridge. It has been observed that Nigerians spend three out of every ten years in traffic. Now, instead of wasting more money on changing the election sequence, why can’t we spend that N2 billion on building at least one pedestrian bridge in every Nigerian state capital? It will bring huge relief to road users and extend the life span of the average Nigerian. Unfortunately Nigerian lawmakers are only thinking of themselves.

“INEC released the election timetable on 9th January. Coming long after INEC had released the election time table, the proposed change in election sequence is bound to throw up logistic complications for INEC. Logistics is central to elections. Planning must be done with microscopic accuracy. Every little detail matters. Again, INEC should have been consulted before proposing the bill but our lawmakers failed to do that. The proposal should have come twelve months earlier, long before INEC released its own timetable. Why did the NASS wait for so long? Is there a hidden agenda?

“Who do we blame if more hitches surface during elections? Can we hang it on the same INEC which has rejected proposed change? Already, INEC has warned that a poorly planned election is an invitation to chaos. Nigeria will become the laughing stock of the whole world if that should happen. This bill must, therefore, be seen as the handiwork of confusionists and anarchists.

“It must also be noted that the proposed reordering of election sequence violates the letter and spirit of the Electoral Act which gives INEC the sole power to organize elections and fix dates.

“In conclusion, we call on President Buhari to reject the bill on the grounds that it is belated, illegal, wasteful, illogical and capable of worsening electoral tension. Reordering the election sequence is also a threat to democracy and an attempt to undermine the independence of INEC.

CelebritiesI Still Have A Political Ambition – Osita ‘paw Paw’ Iheme Declares by Estar01(op): 4:41pm On Mar 04, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

The well-loved thespian Osita ‘paw paw’ Iheme in an interview with Punch spoke on how much he spent on the hotel as well as the kind of woman he would love to marry in the future. He also revealed that he plans to run for political office in the future.

Read excerpts from his interview below:

How he got into the movie industry

I used to live in Aba, Abia State, and my friend took me to a place where movie auditions were held. One day, I was chosen to feature in a movie and the rest is history. However, I have always loved to act. In those days, I used to feature in church dramas.

Why he decided to open a hotel

It is an investment. I was motivated by the need to render services to humanity and create employment. We all know that the rate of unemployment in the country is high; so, I decided to look for a way to contribute my quota since I have the privilege to do that. Owerri is a tourism destination in the South-East. The hotel is another way to contribute to the growth of my state.

How much he spent on the hotel

It indeed cost a lot of money but I cannot give you a specific figure. Building a hotel is not an easy task.

Do his businesses bring him more money than acting?

I wouldn’t say they bring more money but they support my acting career. Acting is not an everyday thing; there is no guarantee that you would get jobs all the time. One cannot depend only on acting because there is no security in it. Aside acting, it is important for one to also have another source of income. Acting is something that is done out of passion, not necessarily because you want to make money from it. I also carry out contracts and that fetch me a lot of money, much more than acting.

Whether he still has a political ambition

By the special grace of God, I still have a political ambition. I have always wanted to be a leader so as to provide good things for my people. There is something that keeps pushing me to do that and I cannot seem to shrug it off. I know that when the time is right, the dream would become a reality.

If he wasn’t an actor, what would he have become?

I think I would have become a footballer. Everybody in my family plays football and I used to play a lot. I knew that I could not really continue with football because of my nature. I could perform better as an actor; that is why I stuck with acting.

On his relationship with Chinedu ‘Aki’ Ikedieze

We have a perfect relationship. Meeting each other was a divine connection; it was God who brought us together. Don’t listen to whatever rumours that say we are not on good terms. What do you think can cause problems between two good friends?

When he is going to get married

(Laughs). Don’t worry. When that happens, you would be the first to know. As for female fans, I let them know that I appreciate them as fans and would rather love to have them as friends.

What kind of woman he likes

I like a woman who is God-fearing and intelligent. I am not really particular about physical qualities.

Whether he wishes he was taller?

Not everybody in the world is tall. Some are short, and others are of average height. We cannot all look the same. I happen to fall among the short people and I have no regrets about that.

CrimeParents Abuse, Kill Own Children In Moments Of ‘madness’ by Estar01(op): 12:11pm On Mar 03, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

Parents abuse, kill own children in moments of ‘madness’

Children, in many societies around the world, are seen as perhaps the best gift in any marriage. Apart from the fact that they give such unions more strength and help to carry on with the family’s lineage, they exist also to provide care and love for their parents when such grow old.

The situation is not different in Nigeria where children are largely seen as the icing on the cake of any marriage and sources of great joy in such homes. Childless couples are in fact put under intense pressure as a result of this phenomenon to the extent that some engage in diabolical means to get a baby or even approach human traffickers to buy one. The situation is that serious.

However, as in-demand as children are in many Nigerian homes, these ‘gifts from God,’ as innocent and tender as they are, have now become easy targets at the hands of some parents, who should love and care for them. In brief, brutal moments of ‘madness’, some parents across the country have now transformed to ‘monsters’, terribly abusing and hacking their offspring to death in the most insane manner.

For example, on February 24, Awada Obosi, a sleepy town in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was thrown into chaos when a 47-year-old man, Stephen Nnadiogo, unleashed the ‘demon’ in him. Described as a relatively calm individual, he hacked his four children to death with a knife one after the other before turning to their 18-year-old home help, Ogechi, to register several deadly stabs on her. Not done with his ‘madness’, Nnadiogo soon took his own life after consuming a poisonous liquid.

According to reports, the 47-year-old and his wife, Chika, had fallen out in recent times after he accused her of sleeping with other men. But rather than calmly defend herself, the 32-year-old woman is said to be in the habit of always taunting her husband that he was not the father of their four children aged between two and 10. Unable to cope with the ‘heat’, Nnadiogo decided to take matters to his own ‘court’, where justice was served in a deadly way.

“Whenever the couple had issues, the woman would always tell her husband that he was not the biological father of their kids,” a neighbour said. “Instead of telling him his suspicion was wrong, she would tell the man that she engaged in extra marital affairs because he was impotent. The man would in anger call her a prostitute who could not be satisfied by one man.

“So, on Saturday, as the woman left home for her medicine store in the evening, the husband called the children one after the other and after observing their face closely, began to stab them with a knife.

“He also killed their maid before hiding in a room where he committed suicide by taking poison,” the neighbour added.

But gruesome as it is, parental abuse becoming a regular thing in many parts of Nigeria today. While the motive behind such acts against their own children by some parents have varied, the damage it had caused appears to be the same – brutal and devastating. Rape, torture, death – the treatments have been frightening.

Two weeks before the incident in Imo, residents of Eket in Akwa Ibom State got a rude shock when a 53-year-old man, Edem Okon, was apprehended for attempting to poison his son.

The man, who claimed that the little boy killed him in a dream he had, visited the orphanage where the child and his sibling were kept, to deliver bread laced with poison to him. But just before he could force the boy to eat the deadly item, officials at the home found out his evil plan and raised the alarm. Lucky escape, if you like.

But a five-day-old baby in Bauchi State was not so fortunate on January 21 when his father perfected the evil plot to send him back to “wherever” he was coming from. Unable to raise the money for the child’s naming ceremony, Habibu Bala, a resident of Ningi Local Government Area, killed his newly born son in the most gruesome way by feeding him with insecticide.

“As a result, the baby became unconscious and was later taken to Ningi General Hospital, where a medical doctor certified him dead,” Public Relations Officer for state Police Command, DSP Kamal Abubakar, said confirming the incident.

That same month in Lagos, a policeman took out his anger on his 19-year-old son in the most extreme manner. On January 5, three days before the boy was to resume for studies as an undergraduate at a university, his father pummeled him to death after he was alleged to have misplaced the sum of N2,000. The incident, which happened in the Ikotun area of the state, has continued to baffle residents especially neighbours, who never envisaged such calamity coming upon their community.

Also in January, a father turned himself in to the police in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after snuffing life out of his 19-year-old daughter, Chiburuoma Boms. Accusing the young lady, who had been ill for about seven months at the time of the incident of promiscuity, the enraged man dragged her out of the house one morning, strangled and dumped her body in a septic tank behind the compound. She died not too long afterwards.

In the Idi Araba area of Lagos, a 32-year-old man, Edet Asuquo, like Bala, left many Nigerians wondering what manner of evil the society now contends with when in January he served his newly born baby a deadly blow. The man, angered by the delivery of a girl by his partner, Rosemary, gave the baby a ‘hot’ slap while threatening to kill her. Due to the severity of the assault, the baby named Gift, was said to have convulsed and died shortly after being rushed to a hospital. Unwilling to face the wrath of the law, the man, said to be a bus conductor, fled the family’s apartment, abandoning his partner to deal with the pains of the loss alone.

Disturbingly, the plethora of callous acts against one’s own children by parents in many parts of Nigeria is not limited to the first few weeks of 2018 alone – in the preceding year – the country witnessed a catalogue of similar wicked acts against kids in several communities.

A few days to the last Christmas, a father, Sunday Ibrahim, desperate to get back at his estranged wife in the most brutal way, strangled his 14-year-old son, Musa, to death in the Apo area of Abuja while also attempting to poison their 17-year-old daughter, Maimuna.

The 44-year-old hatched the evil plot after a court dissolved his marriage with the woman.

“After killing the son, Ibrahim ran to the house of his uncle, Haruna Isah, who resides at Airport Road, Abuja, to confess that he had killed Musa.

“Isah promptly reported the matter at the Ido Police Station. He also arrested Ibrahim and handed him over to the Apo Police Station, from where the case was subsequently transferred to the homicide section of the FCT Criminal Investigation Department of the police Command,” Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory at the time, Mohammed Mustapha, said while confirming the incident.

That same week, a man, Andrew Koku, beheaded his six-month-old daughter in the Abeokuta area of Ogun State.

“The accused said he decided to kill the baby because his wife was having extra-marital affairs with her ex-lover.

“He said the wife’s adulterous lifestyle angered him and he believed killing the only child, which was the only bond between him and the woman would end the marriage,” a police prosecutor, Sunday Eigbejiale, said.

When paraded before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adelaja of the Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Koku owned up to the crime.

In September 2017, a 50-year-old man killed his 14-year-old daughter after impregnating her. The incident, which happened in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, sent the entire community into chaos after the discovery was made.

The man named Williams, had separated from the girl’s mother before taking advantage of her. He was caught by residents of the community while digging a grave to secretly bury the girl after allegedly strangling her to death.

“Williams killed his pregnant girl so as to cover up his crime because the girl’s pregnancy was already becoming very conspicuous and everyone knew that it was her father, who slept with her.

“It took us a while before we were able to apprehend Williams and drag him to the Oba’s palace,” a resident said following the incident.

In other parts of the country like Port Harcourt, Plateau, Nasarawa, Bayelsa and Niger, cases of parents taking out their anger or carrying out pre-meditated evil against their children was rife throughout the year.

According to child’s rights expert, Stella Anubugu, the plethora of violent acts against children in the country was enough laws signal for the government to strengthen existing and enact new ones to protect such vulnerable group in the society.

She said that without stiff punishments, more people especially parents would continue to perpetrate all manner of evil acts against children in different parts of the country.

“As far as I am concerned, our weak laws which have failed to adequately protect children, is part of factors responsible for the level of evil treatment against this category of persons we now witness in our society.

“In many communities today, people don’t interfere in issues relating to a parent and their child because they feel that such own that child and can do whatever he or she likes to them. But that is a wrong line of thought. Of course you might be the parent of that child, but the kids have their own rights too which you cannot trample upon.

“So, until we begin to get people to understand this fact and punish offenders severely by getting children to even testify against parents who abuse their rights, we might not make much progress as a society.

“The truth is that we must take concrete steps to avert these types of evil in our communities,” she said.

Sociologist, Boma Davies, told Saturday PUNCH that apart from the need to reassess our values as a society, factors that push parents to commit such wicked acts like rape, torture and death against their own children must be critically addressed.

“While these acts of callousness by parents against own children are not totally new in Nigeria, the dimension at which they are assuming in recent times indeed calls for urgent intervention by all well-meaning people of the society.

“Part of the problem is the fact that as a people, our value system has been badly eroded. That is, life no longer matters to a lot of people. In the past when values were intact, you’d hardly hear of incidents like these. So, we must look in this direction to correct some of these mistakes.

“Also, individuals have different abilities to deal with pressure or withstand temptation. For example, a man or woman is most likely to be behaving out of place when hunger and extreme poverty gets hold of them. As a result of the economic situation in the country, many parents are not able to meet up with their responsibilities to their families, hence a rise in the level of anger and frustration among such persons. At the slightest provocation, such individuals are going to transform into animals, unleashing mayhem without minding the consequence most times.

“This is part of what we are witnessing in the country today. If you dig down to find out why some of these parents commit these atrocities against their children, you’ll discover that hardship and poverty is at the heart of it.

“So, to avert incidents like these, the government and in fact the society in general must look at ways through which hunger, lack and especially unemployment can be reduced. The moment people can eat to their satisfaction and have the capacity to afford basic things, you’ll see a drastic drop in the level of tension in the society,” he said.

Religious leaders, Femi Paul, and Ahmed Jimoh, told Saturday PUNCH that the society was witnessing all manner of problems because the people had drifted away from God.

According to the Christian and Muslim heads, who spoke with our correspondent in separate interviews earlier in the week, the lack of fear of God among many Nigerians today was responsible for the wickedness now exhibited in the society including parents against own children.

Though there are no known statistics, experts say dozens of children are abused and even killed by own parents in many parts of Nigeria each year. While only few of these are reported to law enforcement agencies, hundreds more remain undocumented, allowing perpetrators to roam about freely.

PoliticsOpen Letter: A Letter To Yusuf Buhari by Estar01(op): 7:50am On Mar 02, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

Hello Yusuf,

I write this letter as a brother and Nigerian, hoping that your recent experience has given you more insight, empathy and strength to look beyond yourself and live for the greater good of humanity.

Welcome back home brother. Thank God for granting you good health and more years on earth.

As I think about what led to your accident, I realize that the desire to live to the fullest, is something we both share. Power bike riding is an exciting pass time.

And racing on a power bike, (laughs) you’re either an adrenaline junky or just down right crazy to do such.

I too look forward to a day I ride my bike across cities and towns in Nigeria. I’m currently in Istanbul receiving radiotherapy treatment for a malignant tumour discovered in my nasal region last year.

And it’s going well thank God. Now here’s why I’m writing you this letter. Note, what I’m about to point out is not your doing, just the way life designed our paths. So take no offence or feel guilt from it. Just know that there comes a time life teaches us lessons that will benefit the world we live in.

* You had the best medical care available to you in Nigeria when you had your accident. A team of some the best medical practitioners and minds in the country at your bedside.

* I am lucky to have had the tumour identified after months of test in clinics and hospitals. Of which I was told I had nothing more than an infection.

* You were flown out of the country as soon as you were stabilised, because the doctors I assume didn’t have the equipment and technology to continue with treatment.

And note that the logistics of visa, funds and family support were all taken care off the table because of your status as the ‘First Son’ of Nigeria.

I assume again that you had aides travel with you. All to make certain that your stay outside the country be comfortable and stress free.

* After my tumour was diagnosed malignant thank God, I spent four months of more test and scans to come up with the best form of treatment. Receiving two sessions of chemotherapy which turned out to be ineffective.

And later resorted to crowd funding from Nigerians, which helped me get out of the country for better care. But like everyone going out of the country I had to go through the process of visa application in my critical state.

I could only afford to have a friend travel with me. He put his life on pause for a month to help me settle into the system.

We are lucky Yusuf. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of Nigerians who are not as fortunate if not millions of Nigerians who are not as fortunate as us.

They have died from ailments far less life threatening. All because they can’t afford the care and the lack of available medical facilities for treatment. They deserve the best medical care as Nigerians. Because they live in a land blessed with wealth and resources beyond imagination. Something I’m sure you’re benefiting from.

I believe we should all benefit from the resources our country is blessed with. And tribe, language, religion and social standing mean nothing to me when it comes to this notion. I strongly hope you share my sentiments as the first son of Nigeria.

It’s said that a father’s love knows no bounds. And I strongly believe that when your father heard you had been in a horrific accident, there was nothing he wouldn’t do to keep you alive. No amount would be spared for you to have the best care medicine could give.

Your father, is my president and the elected father of my nation Nigeria. I expect him to spare nothing when it comes to the welfare of Nigerian citizens. Because as citizens, we trust him to lead us with the best care and protection imaginable in the time he has been allocated.

I’m not writing this to lay blames on anyone, it’s a colossal waste of time. But instead I pray my words ignite a passion in you to help your father, with the time left of his term, put in place the foundations for real change that will benefit the people of Nigeria in all real change that will benefit the people of Nigeria in all aspects of life.

There is so much I want to say, but I’m afraid of writing too much. I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody. The words of your father, my president. Words that meant so much to me as I watched your father being sworn in as the fourth democratically elected president of Nigeria.

The people of Nigeria are in need of a leader that will create the opportunities needed to make their lives better. You know this Yusuf. If you don’t, put on a disguise and go on a nationwide tour to see for yourself. And maybe, just maybe we can start to make the pledge a reality.

I look forward to meeting you, so we can sit down and plot a path to greatness for Nigeria by sharing ideas.

God bless you, and may God bless Nigeria.

PoliticsWhy Nigeria Does Not Deserve To Exist -IPOB by Estar01(op): 3:35pm On Mar 01, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared that Nigeria does not deserve to exist.

IPOB said any country that condones the persecution of the innocent but reward “cold blooded murderers like Fulani herdsmen, does not deserve to exist.”
The pro-Biafra group stated this while reacting to the non-release of its members held in custody across the country.

IPOB wondered why killer herdsmen have not been apprehended despite their atrocities.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group also warned Ohanaeze Ndigbo to organise their events to focus on referendum and not restructuring.

The statement reads, “Anything that could be seen to endorse the continued existence of one Nigeria will be peacefully resisted. Ohaneze Ndigbo is hereby warned to reorganise their event to focus on referendum and not restructuring. If they insist on discussing restructuring within Nigeria, they will encounter a worse fate.

“There are hundreds of innocent Biafrans in prisons and illegal detention centres all across Nigeria for no reason whereas not a single Fulani man has been incarcerated for the killing thousands of people by their herdsmen Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.

“A society, nation or country that condones the persecution of the innocent- in this case Biafra agitators, whilst rewarding cold blooded murderers like Fulani herdsmen, does not deserve to exist.”

CrimeWhy Court Should Set Me Free - Kidnap Kingpin, Evans by Estar01(op): 8:02am On Mar 01, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans, has asked a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere to quash the two separate charges filed against him by the Lagos State Government.

Lagos had brought a fresh five-count charge bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder against Evans and three others.

Evans is charged alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba.

In the second charge, Evans is being tried alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, Counsel to the first defendant, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje informed the court that he had filed a motion on notice to quash all the charge filed against the first defendant (Evans).

In the motion on notice, Ogungbeje said that ‎all the charges and the proof of evidence before the court did not establish any prima facie case against the first defendant.

He also said that all the charges were “grossly defective, incompetent and constituted an abuse of court processes”.

He stated that the prosecution had earlier filed similar charges and amended charges bordering on kidnapping against the same first defendant pending before the same High Court of Lagos State.

He averred that the two separate charges were brought in bad faith to “harass, oppress, hound, frustrate, vex and intimidate the first defendant.”

“It will be in the interest of justice if all the two separate charges are quashed and the defendant is accordingly discharged.”

Ogungbeje, however urged the court to ‎adopt the facts as stated in the affidavit in support of the motion on notice.

‎In her response to the motion, the State Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, said there was sufficient proof and evidence linking the first defendant to the offences brought before the court.

Shitta-Bey said that the first defendant was charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping of one Uche Okereafor.

She also said that other charges filed against the first defendant before other judges involved different defendants, different offences and different victims.

“This particular charge is premised on Evans involvement in the kidnapping of Okereafor and collecting ransom in the sum of two million dollars from his family.”

The DPP urged the court to expunge the submission of the first defendant as it constituted opinions, conclusions and argument contrary to Section 115 of the Evidence Act.

Family"My Husband Employed Imam To Have Sex With Me For 3 Days" – Wife by Estar01(op): 3:38pm On Feb 28, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

A divorce seeking wife has accused her husband of employing an Islamic preacher to have sex with her for money-making ritual purposes.

The woman, Musilimotu Olashuyi, 48, claimed that she introduced her husband, Gbenga Olashuyi, 55, to the unnamed Alfa because she used to frequent his mosque for prayers.

She said at some point, the Alfa noticed that Olashuyi’s business wasn’t going well, a situation that made her to introduce the Alfa to him.

However, Musilimotu said, the Alfa ended up committing adultery with her, allegedly on the instruction of her husband.

She made the allegations at the Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Wednesday.

“It was with my husband’s consent that the Alfa slept with me for three days,’’ Musilimotu disclosed, while praying the court to dissolve the marriage.

She alleged that her husband had also conspired with the Alfa to use her for money ritual.

She narrated to the court, “Actually, my husband got to know the Alfa through me because I always go to his mosque to pray.

“When he told me that my husband’s business was not moving fine, I brought him home to meet my husband.

“Before I knew what was happening, my husband had conspired with him to use me for money ritual. It was with my husband’s consent that the Alfa slept with me for three days.

“After the incident, I started getting sick and getting emaciated and I told the people around me what happened, which led to the arrest of the Alfa; but my husband ran away.

“Gbenga resurfaced at the station after the Alfa brought a remedy to cure me.”

Musilimotu alleged further that Gbenga had refused to repay a loan she collected on his behalf in which she stood as the guarantor.

She said that Gbenga packed out her belonging from his house last October and stole N1m belonging to her.

Musilimotu pleaded with the court to terminate the union, saying that she was no longer in love with Gbenga after four years of marriage.

But Gbenga told the court that it was Musilimotu who lured him to buy the coffin for the money ritual to turn their fortunes around.

“My wife and her concubine persuaded me to buy a coffin for money ritual and she brought the Alfa to the house,” Gbenga said.

He added that the cleric had told him that God revealed to him that his business was collapsing and that he would make some rituals for him.

“I agreed to make the ritual because truly, my business was not moving well. Since that day, my wife has been coming home with the Alfa and with different objects and concoctions for me to drink and have my bath with.

“Later, Alfa asked me to bring N800,000 to buy some items for another ritual. He also told me to buy a casket for money ritual, which I will put in a separate room where nobody will enter except me.

“My wife begged me to comply with Alfa’s request, but I declined,” Gbenga claimed.

The businessman accused his wife of infidelity, alleging that Alfa always made love to Musilimotu on their matrimonial bed.

He said he knew about the adulterous relationship when his wife had Alfa arrested and accused the cleric of using charms to rape her.

“The cleric told the police that he did not hypnotise my wife to rape her, saying that it was with her consent that he made love to her on those three occasions,” Gbenga said.

Gbenga confessed that he packed Musilimotu’s belongings out of his house.

He also pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage, saying that he was no longer interested in the relationship.

The President of the court, Mr. Akin Akinniyi, however, advised the couple to maintain the peace while he adjourned the case until March 22 for judgment.

PoliticsFG Issues Statement On How Nigerians Must Address Pres. Buhari From Henceforth by Estar01(op): 1:31pm On Feb 27, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

The federal government has released a statement informing Nigerians how President Buhari should be addressed at formal functions from henceforth.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, gave the directive in a circular sent to ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government.

The circular reads;

Government has observed with concern the inconsistent manner in which the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria is addressed during Official and Private functions. It has therefore become necessary to have a standard format for addressing him at such formal occasions. To this end, Mr. President shall henceforth be addressed as ‘‘MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.’’ except in purely Armed Forces Programmes, where “COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA” will be added. All concerned persons should accordingly be guided and ensure strict compliance with the contents of this Circular.

This new directive indicates the president, though a retired major general, is not to be addressed by that military rank at formal functions.

CrimeJSS 1 Pupil, Others Arrested During Cult Initiation In Lagos by Estar01(op): 12:03pm On Feb 27, 2018
By Estarsblog.com

A 15-year-old pupil, Idris, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly belonging to the Aiye Confraternity.

Idris, a Junior Secondary School one pupil at a private school in the Orile area of the state, was paraded along with 56 other suspected cult members at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Monday.

We learnt that the suspects were rounded up on Thursday at Elemoro, in the Ajah area by the police and members of a vigilance group in the community.

The cult had gone inside a bush some distance away from Eleko Beach, Ajah, to perform initiation rites for new members, including Idris, who had tattoos on his chest and hand.

They were about to complete the rites when the operatives swooped on them around 4am.

Two locally-made cut-to-size guns, three live cartridges and 22 expended cartridges were reportedly recovered from them.

Idris, a resident of Arowoyabuna Street, Orile, told our correspondent that an unnamed neighbour had approached him on Wednesday and taken him to a bar to drink.

He said, “A man in my community bought a drink for me. After we finished drinking, he asked me to follow him to Eleko Beach for a party. When we got there, they covered my face and took me inside a bush. They used an object to pierce my thumb and collected some blood.

“As we were about to leave around 4am on Thuursday, I heard gunshots and the police arrested us. I have not been told the name of the cult.”

He said the inscription, ‘Baba Bose,’ tattooed on his chest, was an expression of love for his girlfriend, identified as Bose.

Another suspect, 23-year-old Eze Michael, explained that his friend, one Kelechukwu, lured him into the bush on the pretext that they were going for an event.

The Ebonyi State indigene said, “Kelechukwu invited me to an event at Eleko Beach. When we got there, he said we would have to wait till late evening. When it was 10pm, he took me inside a bush. I met so many people there. They beat us. They told us to lie down and raise our hands.

“They threatened to shoot us if we did not cooperate. Immediately they cut my thumb, I heard gunshots from the police and everybody started running helter-skelter.

“Some OPC members beat us up. Kelechukwu did not explain anything to me before we got to the bush. But I learnt the group is Aiye Confraternity.”

Adedayo Obabiyi, 25, from Ogun State, said he and his siblings had attended a birthday party at the beach and were returning home when some hoodlums attacked them.

“They collected our phones and ATM cards and blindfolded us. They took us to an unknown place. When we got there, I heard a lot of voices. They pierced our thumbs,” he added.

The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, lamented increasing involvement of youths in cultism.

He, however, said the command had initiated a clampdown on cult members, adding that those arrested would be prosecuted.

The CP said, “Based on credible intelligence that members of the dreaded Aiye Confraternity were performing their initiation rites at a shrine in a thick forest in Abule Egbanu, in the Elemoro, Aja area of Lagos, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Mohammed Limawa, mobilised his men. The DPO received support from the undercover operatives of the Area J, Elemoro, and the men of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command. Together, they stormed the area and arrested 57 members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity.

“Some of them were not in their right senses at the time of the arrest due to drug overdose. Items recovered from the suspects include two Suzuki mini buses with number plates, LND 893 XV and EPE 189 XV, respectively, one Volkswagen bus, one Mitsubishi space wagon marked, SMK 455 AL, and two Toyota Camry cars with number plates, BD 760 DH and LSD 506 EC.”

Imohimi also paraded three suspected members of a cult that allegedly killed an official of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Monsuru Bolaji, on Wednesday in the Aguda, Surulere area of the state.

He said the suspects, Muyideen Bello, Wasiu Adio and Nurudeen Odofin, had confessed to participating in the murder of the father of two children, noting that an axe and a knife with bloodstains reportedly recovered from them had been sent to a forensic unit for analysis.

“It is interesting to note that one of the suspects, Wasiu Adio, aka Trouble, further confessed that he was a senior member of Eiye Confraternity and that he and members of his group killed one Timothy in Aguda, Surulere, sometime in October 2017. Investigation into the case is in progress and further findings will be made public. The suspects will surely have their day in court at the end of investigations,” Imohimi added.

But the suspects denied involvement in cult activities and in the murder of the LNSC official.

Bello claimed that Bolaji was his friend and that he took him to a hospital for treatment after he was attacked on that day.

He said, “After he died, I took him to the Aguda Police Station from the hospital. He (Bolaji) was my childhood friend; we went to the same primary school.”

Odofin, 39, said he was the chairman of commercial motorcycle riders in Aguda, while Bolaji was the secretary, aside from being a security official.

He stated that some cult members had been on their trail since December 2017 for allegedly giving the police information about cult activities in the area.

He said, “After I observed Ishai (Islamic 8pm prayers) that day, I was relaxing in front of my house when I heard gunshots. A boy came to tell me that some cult members were running after somebody on the street. After about 15 minutes, I heard that somebody had been killed.

“I ran to the scene and discovered that Monsuru (Bolaji) was the victim. It was Gafar, Adura and their gang members who killed him. In October 2017, they also killed one boy called Timothy. That was when the problem started because the boy’s father was related to me. They started chasing Monsuru and me. We reported at the Aguda Police Station and the LNSC office.

“They said anytime we saw those boys we should report them. We didn’t see them until that evening when Monsuru was killed.”

The third suspect, Adio, said he was a family friend of the deceased, adding that he was at home when some LNSC officials arrested him for Bolaji’s death.
