Anti-drug authorities said Tuesday they have arrested a man for trafficking 2.1kg of cocaine wrapped in 55 condoms.

Drug Enforcement Commission spokesperson, Theresa Katongo, said the 27-year-old Bolivian was arrested at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, Zambian capital.

Katongo said the drugs were found wrapped up in condoms and concealed in 55 bottles of roll-on.

She said the Bolivian national was intercepted at the airport upon arrival from Rio de Janeiro via Angola aboard an Angolan Airlines flight.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

David Eyo, a 31-year-old head-teacher, who allegedly defiled his 10-year-old pupil and infected her with a disease was on Tuesday remanded in Kirikiri Prison on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The accused, a resident of Aguda in Surulere area of Lagos, is on trial for defilement.

“He defiled his 10-year-old pupil (name withheld) several times in the premises of the school,” he said.

Reports says that the case was reported by the pupil’s parents to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

According to Mrs Titilola Rhodes-Vivour, Coordinator of the DSVRT, who was present in court, the child had informed her classmate about the defilement which had occurred several times within the school premises.

“The classmate who is the girl’s friend, told her mother who in turn informed the father and the case was reported to the Eric Moore Police Station in Surulere.

“At the police station, it was referred to the Gender Desk and the desk got in touch with the DSVRT for further investigation.

“The survivor could not tell her parents because the accused threatened to flog her, telling her that she will die if she tells anybody of the defilement.

“According to the survivor, who was preparing for her Common Entrance Examinations, the pupils used to stay after school hours to be tutored by Eyo who works also as the headteacher, choir master and class teacher.

“Eyo had the habit of isolating the survivor from her classmates and defiling her in the classroom and infected her with a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD).

“The survivor alleged that the sexual abuse had started since September 2017 when she was in Primary Five.”

The case has been adjourned until June 25.

One shot dead at Ebonyi PDP meeting as Okorocha's son-in-law, deputy gov's supporters clash in Imo 

Many people were injured on Monday when the supporters of the Imo State Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, and that of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, clashed during a political meeting.

The clash happened at the council hall of the Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Nworubi, where the supporters of Okorocha’s son-in-law had gone to endorse him for the 2019 governorship election.

The deputy governor hails from the local government.

Both Madumere and Nwosu are jostling to succeed Okorocha.

However, Okorocha had last week publicly announced that he would support his son-in-law who is currently his chief of staff should he declare interest in the governorship seat.

Sources at the meeting told one of our correspondents that a political group, known as “I Believe Movement,” which is pro-Nwosu and the supporters of the deputy governor attacked each one with dangerous weapons immediately the mission of the visitors was announced.

According to an indigene of the LGA who was at the meeting, the pro-Nwosu supporters had sent them a short message service inviting the members of the community to the meeting without stating its agenda.

The indigenes, according to the source, became enraged when the visitors announced that the essence of the political gathering was to endorse Okorocha’s son-in-law for governor.

“The members of I Believe Movement took us for granted. They came to our Local Government Area to endorse the governor’s son-in-law against our son, Madumere who is the deputy governor of the state.

“They want to use us to score a cheap political point against the deputy governor who is our son. The annoying aspect is that they didn’t inform us why they invited us.

“Immediately we realised what their plan was, we told them categorically that we are supporting our son,who is the incumbent deputy governor for the governorship election.

“They started shouting ‘I Believe Movement in support of Uche Nwosu’ and we started shouting Madumere. They picked offence and started fighting us,” the source explained.

According to the source, the indigenes had to call for reinforcement which led to a bloody clash.

“Our people regrouped and came to the hall to save us .they started using stones, bottles and other weapons on us.”

One of our correspondents learnt that many people sustained varying degrees of injury during the free-for-all.

Some members of the I Believe Movement, our correspondent gathered, ran home half naked when the indigenes overpowered them.

Many lives would have been lost but for the prompt intervention of security men who were hurriedly drafted to the area by the police.

But when contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said he had yet to be briefed.

The Public Relations Officer to Nwosu, Vivian Onwuka, when contacted referred one of our correspondents to the coordinator of the I Believe Movement.

When contacted, the Coordinator of I Believe Movement, Lawrence Achinihu, confirmed the clash, saying it happened when some indigenes of the town tried to disrupt the political gathering.

He said, “They came to disrupt the meeting by shouting ‘Madumere, Madumere’ as they knew that we were in the area to seek support for Nwosu. And this led to a disagreement and hot argument.”

But the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Uche Onwuchekwa, could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report .

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 38-year-old Elias Nwankwegu on Saturday during a ward meeting organised by the Peoples Democratic Party at the Nwofe Primary School, Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Lovet Odah, made the confirmation at the command Headquarters in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday while briefing newsmen.

The PPRO said that investigations into the killing had commenced, disclosing that one suspect, Emmanuel Nwofe, had been arrested in connection with the incident.

It was gathered that Nwankwegu popularly known as “Okarika” was shot dead by suspected thugs during the political gathering.

Investigations revealed that the deceased was an uncle to the immediate Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mr. Augustine Nwankwuegu, who also served as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011.

Abia State couple sells their own newborn baby for N400,000

…two of their seven children unaccounted for – Police

After three weeks of investigation, the Monitoring Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Imo State Police Command has nabbed a couple for allegedly selling their daughter, Chinecherem, for N400,000, a few hours after delivery.

The couple – Ifeanyi, 35, and Emmaculata Elijah, 30 – are indigenes of Amakpu- Umuba, in the Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State. But they are residents of Irete, in the Owerri West LGA of Imo State.

Other suspects said to have been involved in the crime are Grace Mezu, 55, of Umuoba Uratta, in the Owerri North LGA; Fedalia Ariri, 55, also of Umuoba Uratta; and Amarachi Obiekwe, 49, of Osina, in the Ideato North LGA.

Parading them on Monday at the command headquarters in Owerri, the state capital, the Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said the couple conspired on January 26, 2018, a few hours after giving birth to the girl and sold her to Obiekwe, through Mezu and Ariri.

Enwerem, who disclosed that the couple had given birth to seven children, said the whereabouts of two were still unknown.

According to him, the woman was delivered of the baby at home, while the waiting buyers paid immediately to take possession of the newborn baby.

The police spokesperson, who explained that the baby was recovered on February 17 in Lagos State, said the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, had ordered that the matter be charged to court at the end of investigation.

Enwerem said, “The innocent baby was denied love and parental care immediately she was given birth to. The parents conspired to take N400,000 instead of their daughter.

“The Commissioner of Police, who is pissed off with this act of wickedness and crime against humanity, has ordered that the wheels of justice and investigation be accelerated so that the matter would be charged to court.

“Having found out that the mother of the child was part of the conspiracy, the CP has ordered that the innocent baby be taken from her and handed over to the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.

“The suspects have made confessional statements and we are working to ensure that justice is served. The Commissioner of Police advised that those who are in need of children should go through legal means to adopt them.”

There was a mild drama when the couple and the other suspects started accusing one another.

While the three other suspects and the child’s father, Ifeanyi, said the baby’s mother was part of the crime, Emmaculata denied knowledge of it.

Speaking to newsmen, the woman who allegedly bought the baby, Obiekwe, said she gave the couple the agreed amount in their house.

The father of the baby, who confessed that he traded his daughter for money, said the crime was planned and hatched by himself and his wife.

He said he and his wife gave Mezu, who brought the buyer, N6,000 from the amount that was paid for the baby.

A naked couple was found dead in a car and it is believed they suffocated after turning on the engine to keep warm while having sex.

The bodies of a 39-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were discovered by police in a locked garage in the city of Bottrop in western Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia state.

The names of the couple have not been released but investigators say it appears they turned on the car engine to get warm, leading to their suffocation.

The man had been reported missing by his family after he had not been seen for days. This led to a search. Meanwhile, officers in the city had also started an investigation into the woman’s sudden disappearance. Police later opened the garage door to find the couple dead. Nobody had noticed the car engine had been left running for hours behind the metal gate of the garage which is located behind a commercial building.

Police said there appeared to be no evidence of a crime but forensic scientists were working hard to establish exactly what happened. Tests are being carried out to ascertain CO levels in the blood of the couple.

A police spokesman said: “At the moment all evidence points to an accident. To put all doubts to rest, the public prosecutor ordered an autopsy be performed on the bodies.”

Experts warns against excessive use of make-up

People who are fond of wearing heavy make-up on their faces and skins to enhance their beauty have been warned to reduce such to its barest minimum.

Some dermatologists who gave the warning on Monday said that this could cause the applicants high blood pressure, low fertility, skin cancer, irritation and other diseases.

A Lagos-based dermatologist, Mr. Alex Adeniyi, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that excessive use of make-up could cause skin irritation, allergies and skin cancer on the users.

He attributed this to the chemical contents of most make-up.

Adeniyi also said that excessive make-up could expose the skins and the eyes of users to germs and harmful toxins.

“Chemicals found in lipsticks, eye pencils, mascara and kajal among others, can cause serious health problems.

“Women who apply make-up on their skins must always clean their faces before going to bed, to remove all traces of chemicals from their skins,’’ he said.

Adeniyi said that it was imperative to use suitable face washes, cleansers, toners and scrubs to wash off make-up on the skin daily.

“This must be done, especially, at night to avert any skin irritation or disease,’’ he advised.

Similarly, another dermatologist, Mrs. Tobi Davis, said that excessive make-up by women was to cover up skin problems such as pimples, allergies, patches, scars, dark circles, boils, and wrinkles.

“If care is not taken the reverse will be the case; instead of beautifying, it will cause more problems for the skin,’’ she said.

Davis said that the harmful effects of make-up were not limited to skin-related issues but to other health challenges.

“Lipsticks, kajal sticks, eye-shadows are known to contain carcinogenic and neurotoxic chemicals that can have adverse effects on the skin.

“This can lead users to developing high blood pressure, allergies, behavioural abnormalities, and reduction in fertility.

“Some chemical preservatives used in many cosmetics are hazardous to the human biological and physiological systems,’’ she said.

The dermatologist said that applying too much make-up on any skin would lead to wrinkles and spots on portions the applicant was attempting to conceal.

“This will make the person look older than his or her age,’’ she said.

She advised make-up enthusiasts to always remove all traces of chemicals from their skins by applying face washes, cleansers, and scrubs.

“Women should use a natural facial treatment like cumber, tomatoes, honey and eggs instead of using unsafe products,’’ she said.

Mrs Pamale Obunwa, a beautician said that women should know their skin types to know the appropriate makeup to apply, particularly on their faces.

“Wrong application of make-up is very harmful and can cause skin cancer.

“It is better to enhance your skin with quality products,’’ she said.

For the first time after she was accused of turning to a snake through which she swallowed N36m from the vault in the account office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, Benue State, 16-year-old Dor, has opened a can of worms to us.

Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk in JAMB office, Makurdi shocked the world penultimate weeks ago after she claimed that her housemaid connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to “spiritually” swallow N36m from the vault in her office.

In her confessional statement while being interrogated by a team of auditors, she said that Joan Asen and her accomplices confessed that they have been stealing the money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always sneaked into the office to swallow the money from the vault.

According to her “It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office. But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing. I became worried and surprised how the millions of Naira could be disappearing from the vault.

“I began to interrogate everybody in the house and office, and no one could agree on what might have happened to the money. I continued to press until my housemaid confessed. She said that the money disappeared “spiritually”. She said that a “mysterious snake” sneaked into the house and swallowed the money in the vault.”

However, when DAILY POST reached out to the erstwhile housemaid, who was relieved of her job following the shocking revelation in November 2017, she denied ever confessing to have turned to a snake or swallowing any money.

Dor, a native of Angantiv in Obi LGA of Nasarawa State, recalled that her ‘madam’ truly went to Plateau State for a conference last year but she did not follow her.

According to her, few days after returning home from the crusade, hosted by a popular man of God in Jos, her boss (Philomena) asked her to go that she was relocating to Abuja.

“That was towards the end of 2017. I was at home when they went for the crusade. When madam came back from Jos, she asked me to go that they were relocating to Abuja and she would not go with me.

“I came to her house in 2015 July and I did not at any point steal even her one kobo before I left last year. Maybe she was not referring to me, but I am sure she didn’t have any maid before and after me,” Dor, who now resides in Karu area of Nasarawa said when an insider directed us to her new residence.

When this reporter stormed Philomena’s family house in High Level, Makurdi on Saturday to confirm if it was Dor, who actually turned to a snake, a man we met there said she had since relocated.

“Madam Philo no dey live here again,” he said rudely.

Meanwhile, when we reached Fabian O. Okoro, JAMB’s director of Information and Technology, for update Monday morning, he did not reply our text at the time of this report.

According to Glory’s friends, she was stabbed to death while struggling with a phone snatcher. One of her friends, Youngy Bui wrote,

A delivery driver has been jailed for life for stabbing a French tourist to death in an unprovoked and random attack.
Nicholas Foy, 39, had snorted 4.5grams of cocaine in a 24-hour drink and drugs session before running up to Laurent Volpe, 49, who was on his way to visit family.

Foy, wearing only a pair of pink shorts, plunged a large kitchen knife into Mr. Folpe’s stomach, passing through his liver. He then turned on witnesses shouting “Do you want some?” following the senseless and motiveless attack in Eltham, south east London last August.

Prosecutor Susanne Alavi said: “Laurent Volpe was on his way to see his family and happened to walk past Foy who indiscriminately selected him as his victim.

“During his trial, Foy blamed his behaviour on the sheer amount of drink and drugs he had consumed. However, he conceded that when he combined these substances, he could not control his violent and aggressive temper.

“Yet he chose to take this dangerous cocktail before stabbing Mr. Volpe to death.

“This was a callous and, in the event, unsuccessful way of seeking to absolve himself of responsibility.

“I would like to thank the many witnesses, including Mr. Volpe’s family, who came forward and gave evidence in court.

“I hope this sentence provides some comfort for them and Mr. Volpe’s friends. Our thoughts are with them.”

Mr Volpe, who was on a two-week holiday with his wife Cecile Chapais and their two children, collapsed at the scene in Eltham, south east London shortly before 7pm on August 11 last year.

Mr Volpe, an accomplished triathlete from the south of France, had spent the day sightseeing with his family.

They returned to Eltham, where they were staying through a house swap and Mr. Volpe popped to a nearby Co-op to get food. But on his way back, he bumped into dad of three, Foy.

When police arrived, Foy punched an officer before he was Tasered and arrested. And as he was taken to hospital for treatment to self-inflicted knife wounds to his foot, he headbutted another officer and had to be sedated by medical staff.

Paramedics took Mr. Volpe to Kings College Hospital in a critical condition but died three days later despite having a liver transplant.

Foy admitted manslaughter, claiming a lack of intent, but denied murder. He was convicted of murder at the Old Bailey on Monday, and jailed for life with a minimum of 17 years.

In the days before the attack Foy, who suffers depression, had not taken his medication, and chose to self-medicate with cocaine and alcohol instead, the judge said.

He had drunk five pints of lager, a litre of Jack Daniels whiskey and rum, and taken up to four-and-a-half grams of cocaine before leaving the house at 6.45pm.

Judge Sarah Munro QC said: “You took with you a large kitchen knife, going back and forward across the road to gouge your foot, believing there was a bomb.

“You had spent the previous evening, night and morning of the 11th of August filling yourself with alcohol and cocaine.

“You took all that, knowing the combination could make you angry, paranoid, aggressive and violent.

“You have a longstanding history of drink and drug abuse. You started taking cocaine aged 17, and took the drug daily until 2013.

“You also told the jury you have had a problem with alcohol for two years. Your records suggest it was a lot longer.”

Two things will probably happen in Imo between now and December 2018.

Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, will either be pressured to remove the statue of disgraced former South African President, Jacob Zuma which he erected with state funds running into millions of naira or the people of Imo may take it upon themselves to remove the “abomination” that comes with Zuma’s statue.

Okorocha, in an effort to parley with Zuma and several other African leaders, erected 13 statues and invited them to lavish state unveiling receptions. Zuma’s statue was the first to be unveiled – at a time he was being disgraced in his home country and asked to resign on accusations of corruption and sexual assault.


Since Okorocha seems to give preference to statues over the payment of salaries and pensions then he should have accorded this honour to people of repute. But no, Okorocha chose to sully his already tenuous reputation by making a statue of Zuma.

As at the time of filing this report, Imo indigenes and Nigerians are still at a loss at the rationale behind the Zuma statue.

The confusion around the motives behind his decision to honour Zuma was shared equally by Nigerians and South Africans.



Rochas’ bride and one of the most corrupt South African Presidents in recent times has resigned from his exalted position due to the unmitigated level of failure of his administration. Okorocha had insisted that Zuma was merely embattled and misunderstood, much like he claims to be.
