justwise: Yes they used to and that was years ago you can't use that to support your argument.

Listen bro don't make excuses for the bad state Nigeria is today, Nigeria is poor because she is rich and that is the biggest problem we have in Nigeria. I never voted in any election in Nigeria because my vote will not count and will not make a change, they will always select the highest bidder.

Don't preach to me about building Nigeria and making it better because Nigeria have done nothing for me, actually being a Nigerians is a liability.

My proprieties are my family and friends.

justwise: Aren't you a hypocrite? Your kids got red passport and you are here writing pages about living in Nigeria? I guess you made the choice of securing your kids future then return back to Nigeria because you knew very well that they have plan B. if you love Nigeria so much why did you bother leaving Nigeria and getting your kids red passport to start with? Allow others to travel out, get their own foreign passport then decide whether to return back to Nigeria or not. That is their choice and not yours.

TravelRe: On Nigerians And The 'must Travel Mentality' by esteltiarra:
jennykadry: Growing up(in primary school to be exact)I used to wonder why Nigeria was so different. I would visit other countries for holiday and compare and contrast. Nigeria to me then had a long way to go and still does....my parents knew then that nigeria wasn't for me. I would write down benefits of each country I visited and compare it to nigeria and then ask my parents questions on why Nigeria was still so far behind. My parents insisted I finished high school in Nigeria just so I don't forget our culture...again they knew living in Nigeria wasn't an option for me.

We would visit some countries and we were treated with respect at the airport but when we returned to Nigeria, we faced corruption in the hands of our custom officers. Nigeria is not home to me and I am glad my children go not have to put up with the nonsense I had put up with in Nigeria.

Sugar coat your words as you like...NIGERIA IS A USELESS COUNTRY. I lost a relative to cancer some months back. A battle that doctors here said could have been fought and won if only the doctors in Nigeria had detected it earlier. Each time he went to the hospital they gave him panadol and sent him back home. It got worse and he kept going from hospital to hospital until he sought medical advise outside the country. They detected cancer but too late it had spread. The man is 6ft under now.

I had an accident last year and let me not begin to tell you's how efficient our health professionals and passersby are. One called the ambulance and before I could say jack benson...helicopter, ambulance, police and the fire department were at the site. I was airlifted to the nearest hospital. That couldn't have happened in Nigeria....so don't blame me if I ain't as patriotic as you want me to be. I can't be patriotic to a country that has nothing to offer me. If I was in trouble overseas the last high commission I would contact is Nigeria's. I know I will be wasting my time.

You call us second class citizens yet our adopted countries would go through hell and back to keep us save. I will be visiting Nigeria very soon and I have recorded my departure on our immigration site just so they know where I will be. After completing the form, I got an email from them advising me to rethink my visit because Nigeria is not a safe place to travel to now...my own fatherland kwa? Yes second class citizen but they care about me more than Nigeria will in the next 50 years.

Nigeria truly is useless and unsafe. A country where the rich spend their money with both eyes open...here no one cares if you win trillions of dollars in lottery. You are safe to spend it as you like with both eyes closed.

My children are my responsibility and it is my responsibility to keep them safe with the help of God and Nigeria isn't that country that will do the job for me.

justwise: Yes i will make the bulk of my investment here, doing it in Nigeria will endanger the life of my family and loved ones. I will visit Nigeria as much as i want but will not be stupid enough to invest my life savings in Nigeria, its not safe simple. Patriotism? put that in the bin, my priorities comes first
..

5*****..........l cannot agree with you less, we have so many recorded and undocumented cases of Nigerians who arrived from the west due to blind patriotism to invest in there motherland and got wasted cheaply like a goat, ""he/she who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him or her most"".... cool

justwise: I knew it, i know you have been wasting your time reading about other people's success stories trying to implement it to every situation. There are thousand and one biographies of rich and famous people written years ago but at the same poor people still exist even within their friend circles.

When will you realize that people cases are different that what works for you may not work for me? The environment you flourish in may be my worse place to survive in. Why do we have this enclosed and limited mind set of definition of success? Have you traveled and lived abroad to know what success feel like as compare to what its in Nigeria?

Epic, well said and on point......in my opinion, the bold summarizes the whole argument.

claremont: People would always migrate from one place to the other for various reasons. In the EU, citizens of any of the countries migrate from one country to another in search of a better life. Some Americans have been known to migrate to Australia and even as far as the EU all in a bid to eke out a better existence. My point is that migration is a universal characteristic of the human species; and hence, its manifestation among the Nigerian populace is not abnormal, it is a universal norm.

The notion that ''If you cannot make it in Nigeria, you can't make it anywhere else'' is not only ill-informed, but it reeks of ignorance. The first thing that strikes anyone who reads such a statement is ''make it'', everyone's definition of that phrase is different. Some people are quite happy to eke out a miserable existence in a country with appalling public infrastructure, abysmal public services, blatant corruption, and a healthcare system that is a joke. To these people, getting paid peanuts whilst working in the aforementioned country is what they define as having ''made it''.

Thankfully, not everyone believes in sacrificing their destiny on the altar of blindfolded patriotism. This is why people would always migrate. The lure to live a life better than the one currently been lived is far greater than the pull of a below-average abysmal existence they call ''making it in Nigeria''.

Its naivety, this is what i don't get....some Nigerians with all our degrees and all sorts of certificates still don't know the implications of giving an agent ALL your personal details, i mean All and pay that agent just to fill a form for you. This agent can now do whatever he likes with your details and the consequences will be on you.

Honestly if you can read, write and understand instruction and you still need an agent to fill a form for you then you wasted your time and money going to school.

Maid charged with adultery after birth of twins
Gulf News – 10 hours ago

Woman, babies and suspected partner in police custody Sharjah Public prosecution on Sunday started its interrogation of a Filipina housemaid who gave birth to twin girls in a bathroom at her employer's house.
The 35-year-old maid, who gave birth in Al Nouf area of Sharjah on Thursday morning, has been taken to Al Gharb police station custody, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.
It is thought the maid got pregnant following an affair with a Bangladeshi worker at a neighbouring house. Both have been charged with adultery.
The housemaid used to prepare breakfast for her employer's school-going children, but did not carry out her morning duties on Thursday.
The Emirati family reported the incident to the police operations room after they found their housemaid lying in the bathroom of their adjacent house after delivering her babies. The family told police that they did not know who their maid's partner was.
The housemaid and her twins were later rushed to Al Qasimi hospital and police arrested her suspected partner hours before he planned to flee the country.
The family said the maid joined them nearly a year ago and that they had not noticed that she was pregnant as she was fat.
An official at Al Qasimi hospital told Gulf News that the condition of the mother is stable and her twin daughters were in good health. The babies are with their mother in custody.
