Your weed management is top notch
A few questions please
1. It is evident that your seed is drought tolerant. What date/week in June did you plant your maize?
2. After spraying glyphosate and atrazine at planting, have you performed any other weeding operation subsequently?
3. I know you are meticulous at record keeping. When was the last date/week/approximate that rain fell before you started experiencing rain break in your location
tnx (1) June 12 (2) yes post emergence herbicide application using both Nico and halo (3) July 22 |

Pls God we need rain ...
When maize reaches grain filling stage, any water stress issue reduces yield by affecting:
(1) Cob size
(2) kernel size
(3) Cob length

Redman44: I had to go and monitor the guard on my site and ensure he waters the fruit crops I planted there. I instructed him to give each plant at least 2-3 medium cups of water daily until the rains resume falling. I went there yesterday and we both watered the fruit crops. There is nothing like rain o. Rain has carbons and other nutrients in it that helps plants grow quickly. Please, try and water plants in your garden daily. God will bring back the rains soon. Amen . amen o |

Here's a rough breakdown of the maize growth stages:
- Germination: 7-10 days - Seedling stage: 1-2 weeks - Vegetative growth: 2-4 weeks - Tasseling: 50-60 days - Silking (female reproductive structures): 55-65 days - Pollination: 60-70 days - Grain filling: 70-90 days - Maturity: 90-120 days |

Zwooks: My second maize farm has tasseled two weeks ago and was supposed to be due for harvest this week. The cobs for the few available are miserably small.
Drought tolerant. But for how long ? I also planted SC510 that is also drought tolerant but for how long can they stay without water/rain ? dont worry.. it will rain |

[quote author=Zwooks post=131181435]I used Cypermetrin over and over on my maize, they kept on multiplying seriously. I used DD FORCE too, the same thing.[/quote)
Apply early in the morning or in the evening.
And make sure u target the Middle. |

When fighting armyworm, make sure u alternate pesticide.
Armyworm can become adapted to a particular pesticide when used over time.
So if u apply pesticide that contain Cypermetrin this week, change to pesticide that contains either benzoate or Lambda cyhalotrin next week.

Armyworms can significantly impact maize yields, causing damage to the crop in several ways:
1. Leaf damage: Armyworms feed on maize leaves, causing defoliation, which reduces photosynthesis and plant growth.
2. Ear damage: Armyworms can also feed on the ears, causing direct damage to the grain.
3. Reduced plant height: Armyworm damage can lead to stunted plant growth, reducing overall yield.
4. Delayed maturity: Armyworm damage can delay plant maturity, leading to reduced yields.
5. Increased susceptibility to disease: Armyworm damage can make plants more susceptible to disease.
6. Reduced grain quality: Armyworm damage can lead to reduced grain quality, making it less marketable.
7. Yield loss: Armyworm infestations can result in significant yield losses, ranging from 10% to 100% depending on the severity of the infestation.
It's essential to monitor fields regularly and implement control measures promptly to minimize the impact of armyworms on maize yields.
The fight continues

Zwooks: Speaking of which, the yield potential of seeds, is it the wet potential or dry potential ?
I.e what is the dry potential of 510 ? I can't say for 510, I've not done it before. |
Agriculture › Re: My 1.5 Acre Maize Demo Plot. by Esude007(op): 3:10pm On Jul 26, 2024 |
Zwooks: While a regular maize cob can have the weight you indicated in this analysis, can the cob of 510 match this fact given that this variety isn't best for weight but speed ? it can't, that's why the yield potential of 510 is lower than that of 719 and 649. From my experience, any crop that stay long before production yield more. If you check, 510 is an early maturing variety |

Ameboperoo: I applied poultry manure before cultivation, NPK at 14days and Urea at about 6 weeks. I have checked the website of seedco and the expected yield was 5-6 tonnes/hectare while that of sc719 is 10 to 12 tonnes/hectare. I think it has to do with the variety before u can blame the variety, did u follow gap? (1) What was your spacing. (2) what is the population of crop per acre Population plays an important role in the yield. You are expected to plant 20kg of this sc510 per hectare. Meaning a population of 53,333 per hectare We have 2.5 acre in 1 hectare. Meaning 21,333 per acre. Did u monitor This? |
