PhonesHow To Use Google’s Apps Without Getting Spied On by etech9ja(op): 10:26pm On Nov 05, 2016
Google provides a lot of helpful, free services, but they often come at the cost of privacy. You might love Gmail, but you have to suffer through targeted ads; you may enjoy using Google Maps, but you have to give up your location privacy.

Signing up for Google’s suite of apps almost always involves some degree of data collection, but you should at least try to limit the amount of spying the company performs on you. Here’s how you can keep using Google’s apps without constantly getting spied on.

Some of Google’s tools, such as Google Maps and Google search, can be used without a Google account through your web browser. Either .. Read on at http://etech9ja..com.ng/2016/11/how-to-use-googles-apps-without-getting.html

PhonesBefore You Use The Public Wi-fi, Read This by etech9ja(op): 9:50pm On Nov 05, 2016
Is public Wi-Fi safe? The short answer: Hell, no. But if you must use the free wireless at your hotel or the satellite office, here are some precautions you should take.

Keep it impersonal. Never online-bank via public wi-fi. Obvious, right? But you shouldn’t even check email that can give hackers access to a trove of personal info. This applies even to secure websites, those with https (hypertext transfer protocol secure) in the URL. “Public hotspots are susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks” -- where the hacker intercepts communications -- “which will strip out the ‘secure’ part of https,” warns David Lee, a product manager for mobile at security software company Norton.

Beware fake networks. Check the network name with the staff of wherever you’re working. “You might see ‘Free-Starbucks-wifi,’ but this could easily be a fake,” says Jérôme Segura, a lead malware intelligence analyst at internet security software maker Malwarebytes. You’d be able to get online like everything was normal, except all your traffic would be visible to prying eyes. AutosNew Gadget That Can Make Your Old Car Smart by etech9ja(op): 11:49pm On Nov 03, 2016
Earlier this week, I came home and found a box on my porch. Inside was something I had pre-ordered 22-½ months ago. It’s been almost two years.

The item in question is Navdy, a $800 head-up display (HUD) that pairs with your smartphone to show driving directions, text messages and phone calls on a transparent screen on your dash. Navdy’s maps appear as though they are projected onto the road in front of you so there are no visual obstructions. Calls and messages are managed using simple hand gestures.

It makes virtually any car smart. I thought it sounded like a smart idea when I placed my pre-order in mid-December 2014. At that time, Navdy was supposed to ship in the first quarter of 2015... PhonesMotorola Partners With Indiegogo To Try To Jumpstart Moto Mod Development by etech9ja(op): 11:35pm On Nov 03, 2016
The Moto Z is an ambitious and impressive device in and of itself, but its success will, in no small part, ultimately be dependent on accessories. In much the same way a gaming console’s hardware prowess doesn’t mean a heck of lot with a great ecosystem of games, a modular handset isn’t much to speak of without the right set of mods.

The Z offered a decent array at launch (far exceeding the LG G5), including battery pack, speakers and that Hasselblad True Zoom camera. And just ahead of that, the company announced that it would be opening the modular system to non-partner developers.

Today Motorola takes things a step further, launching a partnership with crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. The pair have put together a contest in search of the best Mod idea – akin to ZTE’s recent crowdsourcing effort. And like that competition, the prize is............... PhonesHow To Securely Bleach Wipe Your Smartphone by etech9ja(op): 1:14pm On Nov 02, 2016
Are you planning to upgrade your smartphone, to sell your old device, or to give it to a child or friend?

Were you planning to "factory reset" your device to clean out all your data?

Unfortunately, in many cases, "factory resetting" a device does not stop later users from accessing your data.

Here is why and what you have to do to securely wipe your phone.

Factory resetting a device may make your files, photos, and other materials disappear from being seen by normal users, but it does not necessarily remove the files' actual contents from the device's storage; the material that you want to prevent from being seen may remain accessible.

In many cases, deleting causes the locations in storage utilized by files to be marked as unused, so that other items may be stored there, but leaves files resident in the former locations. Until the data is actually overwritten, anyone who has your device after you and downloads a readily available tool can obtain your information.

So, how can you best make sure that your data cannot be retrieved by a subsequent user of your device? It's a 5-step process:

Technology MarketIts Now Possible To Keep A Drone Flying Without Battery Using Wireless Power by etech9ja(op): 7:50pm On Oct 08, 2016
Another breakthrough has been made in the world of drones this week with thanks to Dr. Samer Aldhaher of the Imperial College London. But it’s not just drones that will benefit from this fantastic technology. It could be used in a number of different consumer electronics and gets us once step closer to becoming a battery free society.

The drone that Aldhaher has created is what is known as a quadcopter drone and is capable of being used for tasks such as delivering packages. And the great thing about this one is that unlike its competitor’s drones, there is not limit to this one’s battery and could essentially fly forever. How you may ask? By wireless technology, that’s how.

In place of where the battery would normally be on one of these drones, is a coil of copper foil tape. This tape acts as a receiver for electromagnetic waves that are emitted by the plate that the drone flies over. However, while this is a pretty neat idea, it will only work reliably over small distances and the demo drone created flies only about 5 inches above its wireless power base. But, there defiantly potential there and it should not be knocked just yet.

So, although it is still in its early stages of development, this type of battery-less drone just proves where we can take technology when we put our minds to it. A world without batteries would be a world without waiting.

Technology MarketShirt That Helps Deaf People “feel” Classical Music by etech9ja(op): 7:41pm On Oct 08, 2016
The hearing-impaired and even the deaf can now experience music, in a new collaboration between the Junge Symphoniker Hamburg Orchestra in Germany and wearable tech company CuteCircuit.

The pair have created the Sound Shirt, an incredible garment that translates sound into vibrations. When the Junge Symphoniker Hamburg Orchestra plays classical music, the wearers can feel the various instruments, each sound interpreted by a software linked to the wireless shirts.

Believing that each person should have the right to experience music, the orchestra came up with the idea for the Sound Shirt. After six months of research and development, the shirt, and the orchestra’s stage are equipped to allow even the deaf to experience their performances.

First, microphones are arranged all over the stage to pick up the individual instruments. The recordings are sent to Sound Shirt’s software, which converts the sound into data. The data is then transmitted directly to the shirt.

The shirt itself resembles a comfortable athletic sweatshirt, which is lined with a flexible, wireless system. Throughout the Sound Shirt, CuteCircuit placed 16 motor, each assigned to a different instrument in the orchestra based on their sound and pitch. For example, the upright base is picked up on the stomach motor, and the violins are assigned to the arm and shoulder motors.

As the orchestra plays, the motors are activated, and vibrate with the intensity of the music, allowing the wearer to feel the encompassing sound of the full orchestra.

PhonesHow To Share Your Android Phone Internet With Laptops, Tablets And Other Device by etech9ja(op): 10:36pm On Oct 07, 2016
Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot is an easy way to share your phone's data connection with another device, like a tablet, Mac or PC. Tethering to your phone over Wi-Fi is often easier than using a cable, and you can have multiple devices connected if need be.

Android has had Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities built in for years now, though depending on your carrier, or the model of phone you have, it may work slightly differently. In this article, we're going to cover the most common options — stock (unmodified) Android, and Samsung Galaxy phones.

On a Nexus 5X or 6P
How to enable Wi-Fi hotspot

1. Tap the Settings icon in your home screen or app drawer.

2. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
3. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
4. Tap the toggle next to Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

You'll also find a shortcut in the quick settings area.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to view notifications.
Swipe down again to see quick settings. If the Hotspot shortcut isn't already there, tap Edit, then long-press on Hotspot and drag it to the grid of tiles.

How to configure your Wi-Fi hotspot

If it's your first time using the Wi-Fi hotspot feature, you might want to set your own network name and password, or change other settings.

1. At the Tethering & portable hotspot menu, tap Set up Wi-Fi hotspot.
2. Here you can enter your network name and password. (Tapping show password often makes it easier to type.)

3. You can also select the AP Band, though you can usually leave this at the default 2.4GHz. (5GHz sometimes works better in crowded areas with lots of Wi-Fi traffic, but has shorter range.)

PhonesPanasonic Unveils A Bendable Battery by etech9ja(op): 6:19pm On Oct 06, 2016
A flexible lithium-ion battery that can be used in a wide array of consumer devices may be closer to market than ever. At the Ceatac technology expo in Japan, Panasonic showed off its new bendable battery, for now designed for "card-type and wearable devices" such as watches and fitness bands—with CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood telling the BBC that this technology could be a precursor to "truly disruptive devices" (though it will likely be awhile before those come to fruition).

The Panasonic unit, set to start shipping at the end of the month, is a mere 0.022 inches thick, with a full bend of about 25 degrees, and is said to be able to keep functioning even after being bent over and over.

Per Ubergizmo, the immediate advantage of such a battery is that those who carry around cardlike devices in their pockets don't have to worry about damaging the battery if they sit and accidentally bend them.

But it's what these batteries may hold for the future that's generating the most buzz: With major consumer electronics companies like Panasonic, Samsung, and LG putting efforts into developing other bendable technology, including smartphones and displays, these batteries could "provide scope for disruptive new curved designs," Wood says.
