Foreign AffairsOscar Pistorius Charged With Murder Of Reeva Steenkamp by etudaddy(op): 8:41am On Aug 19, 2013

Oscar Pistorius made a somber, tearful appearance in a Pretoria, South Africa court the morning of Monday, Aug. 19, where the Olympic sprinter was formally charged in the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last February. Pistorius, 26, entered a plea of not guilty, and when the judge asked him if he was well, he replied, "under the circumstances, your honor."
A trial start date has been set to March 3, 2014. Court documents reveal that over 100 witness will be called to give evidence at the trial, including one of the Pistorius's ex-girlfriends. A reporter from Sky News says that that Pistorius was "very emotional" in court, and appeared to be praying with his brother and sister before the proceedings started; the three siblings held hands in court, and Pistorius was seen wiping his eyes with a tissue.

Pistorius, the first double amputee to compete in the Olympics, faces 25 years in prison in convicted. He has claimed that he mistook girlfriend Steenkamp for an intruder, leading to her fatal shooting. Prosecutors contend that Pistorius deliberately shot the South African model following an argument.

The disgraced athlete's travel restrictions have been lessened; he is allowed to leave his country under certain conditions.

PoliticsJTF Impounds 28 Vessels, Badges Involved In Rivers’ Oil Theft by etudaddy(op): 10:33am On Jul 08, 2013
Bonny (Rivers) - The Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta on Sunday said that it had impounded 17 metal badges, 10 vessels and a tug boat laden with crude oil in Rivers.

The JTF Commander, Maj.-Gen. Bata Debiro, said this after an assessment tour of JTF’s operational bases in Bonny, Rivers.

Debiro said that the arrests were made only in its “Sub-sector Five” areas, which covered Andoni, Bonny and Gokana local government areas in Rivers, between April 2012 and July 2013.

He claimed that some of the vessels and badges were laden with stolen crude oil and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) when they were apprehended.

Debiro said that eight out of the 17 seized metal badges had been destroyed, while others were still undergoing investigations.

The JTF commander, however, did not disclose the number of arrests made during the time under review.

He said that his visit was aimed at carrying out a surveillance of the JTF’s operational areas and ascertaining the readiness of the JTF troops to fight against oil theft and related crimes.

Debiro, however, said that the JTF operations in the region would improve appreciably if the task force was provided with modern equipment which could be used to track pipelines and illegal bunkering activities.

“Multinational oil companies can assist us with provision of modern technologies and equipment to complement the efforts of our troops who were deployed to protect oil pipelines installations.

“The equipment will enhance our operations because it will alert us about pipelines that are being vandalised in real time and, therefore, guarantee the quick response of our troops to the scene.

“The provision of the equipment will further improve our policing of pipelines and could ultimately lead to the end of pipeline vandalism in the country,” he said.

Debiro, however, rejected allegations that some JTF personnel were involved in illegal oil bunkering activities in the Niger Delta.

He said that the JTF’s personnel were constantly monitored, adding that they were also aware of the zero-tolerance policy of the Army toward corrupt practices.

He stressed that any member of the task force, who was involved in corrupt practices, would be severely dealt with, in accordance with the Army’s code of conduct.

Debiro, nonetheless, said that the JTF had recorded several successes in its operations, pledging that it would not relent in efforts to apprehend and prosecute individuals and groups that were involved in oil theft and related crimes.

Debiro called on community leaders and the public to provide the JTF with timely information which could lead to the arrest of oil thieves and pipeline vandals.

He solicited continued media collaboration with the JTF, saying that this would aid the fulfilment of the campaign against oil theft and allied criminal activities in the Niger Delta region. (NAN)

PoliticsThe Man ‘fashola’ By Fashola by etudaddy(op): 9:39am On Jul 08, 2013
In the absence of the usual compliment of effusive media adverts, the special interview granted a select group of editors was probably the most public event in the recent celebration of Babatunde Raji Fashola’s 50th birthday!

In a rare commentary on himself, Fashola wittingly fielded questions with fluid unscripted responses; possibly, the only question parried was the inquiry about which songs he sings during his early morning meditations, when, according to the governor, “I commune with my Maker”.

However, the essence of the interview is probably the lessons on determination, commitment, simplicity, integrity, and discipline, which could serve as beacons for youths, who may find themselves at various crossroads of life.

For example, on the subject of birthday celebrations, Fashola revealed, “I am not a ceremony person; I don’t like those formalities, and I remember that when I was the Chief of Staff, I turned 40, and my friends said, “No! It’s a lie, we are going to have a party”, and I said, “No! If you do it, I’m going to have to run away!” Inevitably, however, the party lobbyists triumphed; but then, he added, “How they got me to do it, I can’t quite say, but what I remember (on that day) was that I had to wake up very early, and I said, “This shouldn’t be! This is my birthday, and I should be sleeping”!!

On the funding of the birthday bash, Fashola confirmed that “I funded my 40th birthday by myself; I am not quite sure I can do the same now, even as a governor, I am not even sure that I want to spend that kind of money on a party, as if we can’t eat small rice and chicken in the house, I don’t even know if I want to dress up in a formal sense… The idea that probably I would have a birthday party at taxpayers’ expense is something that doesn’t sit quite well with me…. I don’t want to cling to things that are not real. I try as much as possible to keep my feet firmly on the ground, because there are two people here; there is Tunde Fashola and there’s the Governor of Lagos State;… after 2015, I will be left to carry on with my birthday; so, let me get used to that now. That is what I tried to do, since I took office.”

On growing up and education, Fashola had this to say: “I was very horrible with mathematics, I just managed to score 50 or 60 to pass it…; ultimately, the only professional course I could do without mathematics was Law”! Truancy and poor school grades were his call cards; according to him, “school was too much of a problem; there was football to be played, and I didn’t learn how to study until I was in the ‘A’ Level class”. The turning point came when he failed the West African School Certificate examinations; apart from biology, all the other subjects were P7 and P8, and F9 in mathematics! Consequently, his father refused to pay any more exam fees, and arranged for his apprenticeship to a motor mechanic!

According to Fashola, “I think it was that shock treatment that changed my attitude; I went on to write the same exams again, and I passed, and I got into A Level class, and it was very good, and my dad said it was probably because I hadn’t discovered the football field in that school. In a sense, it was true; by the end of my first year, I got into the football team in Igbobi College, and the grades just started dropping! I tell everybody who cares to listen that I am a product of many chances; that is why I give second, third and fourth chances to anybody who is serious. I don’t think that any parent should give up on any child.”

“By the time I entered university, nobody told me to go and study… I was able to combine football and tennis with my academic work; what I simply did was that by 6.00 a.m., I was up to do my exercise. By 8.00 a.m., I would be in class till 4.00 p.m., and by 4.00 p.m., I was in the sports complex till 7.00 p.m.; by 8.00 p.m., I ate dinner, and studied for one hour thereafter everyday till I left the university, and it worked! Ultimately, I left university with a 2:2, and the law school result also was a 2:2″.

For the compulsory youth service, he was posted to the Ministry of Justice in Benin, Edo State, but after waiting endlessly for the state’s Solicitor-General for three days to formally accept his posting, he eventually rejected the offer. His grouse was that “I don’t want to be in an environment where I can’t think on my own and take decisions”.

At home, Fashola noted that there was freedom, love and fear of God; “stealing was unforgiveable; you couldn’t forget your classmate’s biro in your bag, because you will receive the anger of my parents…. You may say that they were strict, but many of my generation went through it; it curtailed greed, built discipline and reinforced self-denial…. If they ask you outside whether you were hungry, you will say no, I have eaten”

On the subject of public service, Fashola noted, “I didn’t plan to run for office, but I had the choice to say no, and run away; however, from the day I made a decision to take the offer, I knew that it came with consequences…. Public servants are a small part of the population…; I want us to discuss the government, especially in a democracy, as something that all of us own…. I feel more comfortable with the concept of an action government rather than an action Governor, because, government is institutional.

“Before I was Chief of Staff, if it rained, I slept more, but once I got into government, the rain meant a different thing to me; then, I lost my evenings, my entire social life…, I was working about 17 hours a day and I was aging very quickly. Nobody wants to be in government forever; not if you will do the work!”

Instructively, after serving former Tinubu for over five years, Fashola still needed the former governor’s assistance to equip his chambers in preparation for disengagement after the elections in 2007, but according to him, “then came the ‘bombshell’ about governorship; and here we are. So, nobody planned it and it was not on my radar at all”!

PoliticsBRT Commences E-ticketing Tomorrow by etudaddy(op): 9:22am On Jul 08, 2013
BY JONAH NWOKPOKU

Lagos — Lagos State Government through the state Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, regulator of the Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, will from tomorrow commence the use of e-ticketing payment as part of ongoing re-structuring of BRT’s operations and management aimed at enhancing effectiveness.

Managing Director, LAMATA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, who disclosed this, weekend, said the measure was part of a holistic plan at returning the BRT operations and experience to its once efficient and effective state when it was fist launched in 2008.

Mobereola said the Lagos State Government was not unaware of the challenges that commuters using the current BRT system were experiencing, explaining that steps were currently being taken to ensure the restoration of efficient and effective service delivery on the system and increase its capacity.

According to him, the e-ticketing payment was a solution through a payment card named ‘Lagos Connect,’ and would offer commuters several options, saying, “with the e-payment system,Lagos Connect, commuters in Lagos will pay as low as N20 per trip instead of N70. They would not need to struggle for change or lose their money, and the system is safe and convenient.

PoliticsGuess Who Is Sleeping In Aso Rock? by etudaddy(op): 4:36pm On Jul 03, 2013
Third Republic Senator Ameh Ebute, is one of President Goodluck Jonathan’s cheer leaders in Nigeria’s Middle Belt. On 17 June, he was part of the delegation of Middle-belt and South South leaders, under the aegis of the Congress for Equality and Change.

Two weeks after, he was back in the grouping of former senators from the Middle Belt, who also paid a visit to President Jonathan. If you wonder, what all the visits are all about, the answer is so simple: 2015. President Jonathan has been busy strategizing for the 2015 election.

And we guess the man sleeping away, Ameh Ebute, first right on second row, may be tired of being a frequent visitor to Aso Rock!

PoliticsA’court Rules On Mimiko Election Today by etudaddy(op): 7:54am On Jul 01, 2013
The Akure Division of the Court of Appeal will today, deliver its judgment on the appeals filed before it against the verdict of the Ondo Election Petitions Tribunal that upheld the re-election of Governor Olusegun Mimiko, for a second term in office.

The Presiding Judge, Justice M.L. Garba, would lead a five-member panel to either uphold the judgment of the Justice Andovar Kaka’an led three member panel which declared Mimiko winner of the October 20, 2012 election in the state, or upturn it.

The development followed the adoption of written addresses by counsel for the petitioners and the defendants and the conclusion of the necessary legal process by the various parties in the appeal.

The Appellate Court is delivering its judgment 60 days after the tribunal delivered its verdict.

However, counsel for the various parties and officials of the affected political parties confirmed to our correspondent on Sunday evening that they had received notifications concerning the judgment from the Appellate Court.

The Action Congress of Nigeria candidate in the election, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Chief Olusola Oke, had filed separate appeals against the tribunal’s verdict which was delivered in favour of Mimiko, who contested the poll on the platform of the Labour Party.

Akeredolu’s lead counsel, Chief Akinlolu Olujimi, had last week, during adoption of addresses, urged the court to uphold the appeal as the tribunal erred by dismissing his petition without considering the merit.

He said, “The central issue in this appeal is the 2012 voter register, which we discovered was not used on election day after having been assured by the Independent National Electoral Commission that it is the valid register for the poll.”

FamilyStudent, Who Gave Birth In Toilet, Names Baby by etudaddy(op): 8:52am On Jun 28, 2013
THE baby delivered in the toilet of Moremi Hostel by a 400-level student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Oyinlola Rotimi, has been named Nifemi, Okikiola.

Rotimi, who gave birth last Tuesday, was initially accused of attempting to flush her baby boy down the septic tank.

But it was later learnt that Rotimi, who was inexperienced in child bearing, thought she had a stomach upset when she was actually in labour.

The 22-year-old mother, studying Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, had told our correspondent that the circumstances that surrounded the delivery of her baby made her “a celebrity.”

She expressed delight with the birth of the baby, describing her experience as “unforgettable”.

When asked how soon she would have another baby, she said, “not so soon,”

It was gathered that the naming of the baby was low-key due to the examination going on in the school.

One of Rotimi’s friends, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Wednesday night, said Rotimi was “extremely happy” at the naming.

She said, “Today(Wednesday) is one of the days I have seen my friend looking so happy, she is extremely joyous. Although, this is not the actual way we planned it. We should have celebrated more than this if not for the fact that examination is ongoing.

“Most of our colleagues are taking exam and that is the major reason for the small celebration. I am hopeful that when the baby clocks one, we will celebrate it in a bigger way because he is our boy.”

However, some OAU students, who were not at the naming of the baby earlier, created their own fun by organising another ceremony, where they named the baby after the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bamitale Omole.

The students, who gathered around 10pm on Wednesday, appointed a pastor among them to coordinate the christening.

Among the names the students gave the baby are Oriyomi, Omomoremi, Oluwanimilo, Titilayo, Eniolorunopa, Bamitale Omole.

The father of the baby, a 400-level student of Engineering in OAU, Oyewole Samuel, however, rebuffed attempts by PUNCH Metro to chat with him.

But one of his friends, who pleaded anonymity, explained that the father was not happy with the controversy that surrounded the birth of his baby.

He said, “He does not like the controversy and the noise about the birth of the baby. He is a cool person and does not like publicity.”

CelebritiesWizkid Vs Unilag Students: ‘I Don’t Do Cheap Money’, Singer Tweets by etudaddy(op): 12:36pm On Jun 20, 2013
By Charles Mgbolu

The past few days has seen Wizkid caught up in spiraling events that has either threatened his life or almost landed him in trouble! First it was a near-tragic automobile accident involving his newly acquired Porsche Panorama and then on Wednesday afternoon, June 19; a near-detention incident at the Zone 2 command Onikan of the Nigerian Police force after he was invited to explain why he allegedly collected N500,000 from some University of Lagos students and then failed to appear at their show.

The story is just unfolding. According to investigations, Wizkid was invited alongside his manager Godwin Tom for questioning by the police after he failed to appear at UNILAG’s Concert of Life which took place at the institution’s Sports Centre on May 21st. He was at the station for a few hours and was only allowed to leave after he’d written a statement and bailed by his lawyer.
He was asked to report to the station next week.

Observers say, these Unilag students may have been scammed by an imposter and this is what Wizkid thinks too.

He tweeted

My Camp and I don’t do cheap money! If you want to book me for a show holla @ my team @Godwin Tom or @DisturbingLDN

Wizkid is smokingly expensive, with performance fees shuttling between 2- 3million naira. It takes only those with financial guts to walk up to him for a performance.

The case is now a police wahala; Wizzy and his camp have refused to discuss the matter any further.

PoliticsGunmen Kill 48 In Zamfara Attack by etudaddy(op): 8:44am On Jun 20, 2013
Gunmen have killed 48 persons in an attack on Kizara in Zamfara State, a government spokesman, Ibrahim Birnin-Magaji, said on Wednesday.

It was learnt that the invaders, who perpetrated the massacre, arrived in the community before dawn on motorbikes.

The gunmen were said to have climbed a hill overlooking the village and opened fire indiscriminately on the residents before carrying out house-to-house attacks.

Birnin-Magaji said, “There was an attack by armed bandits early Tuesday on Kizara where 48 residents were killed in apparent targeted killings by cattle rustlers that have been terrorising the state for some time now.”

Those killed, he added, included the local chief, chief imam and the head of a vigilance group in the village.

Eyewitnesses also reported that the gunmen arrived in Kizara before dawn on motorbikes.

Birnin-Magaji told AFP that the attackers took positions on a hill, before shooting indiscriminately.

He said, “They later moved house to house, telling residents that they were looking for members of local vigilance (groups) whom they said had been disturbing them.”

The attack was attributed to an ongoing feud involving cattle thieves in the state.

The commissioner of police in the state, Akila Usman, confirmed the killings.

He, nonetheless, described the invaders as armed robbers.

A similar attack was said to have been carried out last year in the community.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters on Wednesday said the Special Forces had arrested eight of the terrorists that attacked residents of Borno and Yobe states last Saturday.

A statement by the Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, described the attack as “a typical end-game strategy often employed by insurgents across the world.”

Olukolade said the attack was not a relapse in insurgency but an isolated incident.

According to him, the Special Forces have stepped up the mop-up, cordon and search operations to ensure that the vestiges of terrorism are effectively ended in the states.

He added, “Rather, this trend of sneaking in to carry out isolated attack on soft targets as a way of seeking attention, is a typical end-game strategy often employed by insurgents all over the world; In this instance, the recent activities are signs of desperation of a decimated insurgent group attempting to hang on to public consciousness.”

PoliticsJonathan Asks Tukur, PDP NWC To Resign by etudaddy(op): 11:11am On Jun 18, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan may have directed the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, and other members of the PDP National Working Committee to resign.

It was learnt on Monday that Jonathan gave the directive after the presidential committee on the PDP crises headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim, submitted its report to him in Abuja .

The order and submission of the report which noted that the party was drifting coincided with the lifting of the suspension of Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, by the 12-member Tukur-led NWC.

A member of the presidential committee, who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, added that Tukur and the other NWC members would tender their resignation letters at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday in Abuja.

He said apart from the PDP internal crises, the President was concerned about the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the manner majority of the NWC members came to office.

INEC had queried the affirmation method that returned most of the NWC members to office.

It was also gathered that the NWC members were told that they risked being sacked if they failed to quit before Thursday.

A PDP source said, “If they fail to resign before Thursday, they will be sacked.” He added that the Presidency had already directed that a caretaker committee be set up in place of the NWC.

When contacted, a member of the NWC, who wondered how Jonathan’s directive was leaked, merely said it was true.

“How did the story leak? Yes, it is true. I am already packing my things from my office, “ he said.

But another NWC member, who also admitted that they would cease to hold office before Friday, said, “We are not resigning because President Jonathan asked us to do so. If we resign, it will be because of the report by INEC. We will be resigning to protect the integrity of INEC.”

A national leader of the PDP confirmed the looming dissolution of the NWC, saying, “You remember INEC had said that it does not recognise the election of a majority of them (NWC members).

“The fear is that one of those on the NWC could go to court and aver that the election that produced him or her was illegal. Anybody could go to court on that score too. The party may have problem at that point.”

A member of the presidential committee which has governors Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta); Goodwill Akpabio, (Akwa Ibom); Theodore Orji (Abia ); Isa Yuguda (Bauchi); Ibrahim Shema (Katsina); and Gabriel Suswam (Benue), as some of its members, had said the panel was not pleased with happenings in the PDP.

He said, “Our report, which might not please the President and the leadership of the party, is that the party is drifting. We have told him not to allow the party disintegrate further because whether we like it or not, the party is drifting dangerously and we have to arrest that.

“We have put in the report that some actions of the National Working Committee are repressive and unnecessary.

“We wondered why the party refused to hold its NEC for about a year, which to us amounts to breaching of the party’s constitution.”

The party’s constitution stipulates that NEC must hold at least once in a quarter.

The panel, which also has the Chief of Staff to the President, Mike Ogiadhome; and the Political Adviser to the President, Ahmed Gulak, as members therefore recommended the immediate holding of the NEC meeting, which has not taken place since July 2012.

The Board of Trustees of the party is expected to meet in Abuja on Wednesday.

Our correspondents gathered on Monday that pressure from PDP governors made Tukur and his team to lift the suspension on Wamakko at a press conference jointly addressed by himself, Akpabio and four other governors–Uduaghan, Orji, Yuguda and Shema. Anyim and Gulak were also present at the briefing.

Investigations by our correspondents showed that the governors had indicated their readiness to fight Tukur because Wamakko’s suspension was based on a “trivial” issue.

The NWC of the PDP had while announcing the suspension of Wamakko, said it took the decision because of alleged insubordination to Tukur and his office.

The NWC had earlier suspended the Governor of Rivers State and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, for refusing to reinstate a suspended Local Government chairman and councillors in the state.

But the PDP governors whose chairman is Akpabio, were said to have expressed anger over the gale of suspensions in the party, particularly that of Wamakko.

Wamakko, while describing his suspension as null and void, had called for the sack of Tukur and Gulak.

He had accused Tukur of running the party as his personal estate.

The governors’ anger was said to have made Jonathan to set up the Anyim-led committee to look at the crises in the party.

While announcing the lifting of the suspension on Wamakko, Tukur said, “Now this issue will never come again. It is a great party, we believe in our nation. We need a party as a platform to stand on, but based on unity, discipline and commitment.

“We are also going to have NEC meeting. We have the support to rescind the suspension, which is a very important thing. We rescind the suspension of our governor of Sokoto.

“With that, we are ready for further business because NEC meeting is the requirement of our own party, always to get in touch with the people to tell them of our programmes, like the state- of -the nation and state of the party.

“So we are going to have our NEC meeting on Thursday, June 20 by 12pm.

“NWC has rescinded the suspension of the Sokoto state governor on the appeal of the PDP Governors’ Forum and secondly the National Chairman is inviting the PDP statutory members to the meeting of NEC.”

Also speaking at the briefing , Akpabio said that the presidential committee appealed to the NWC to lift the suspension of Wamakko.

Akpabio added, “I want to thank the national chairman of our party and other members of the working committee for granting us the privilege of this meeting today (Monday).

“We came as a select committee of the PDP to discuss the state of affairs of our great party, particularly the relationship between the working committee and the PDP governors and I want to say that we make a very strong appeal to the working committee on behalf of our colleague, Governor Wamakko.”

On why Amaechi’s suspension was not lifted, Akpabio said it was because of a case he (Amaechi) instituted against the party.

SportsCan Troubled Eagles Fly Over Tahiti? by etudaddy(op): 11:56am On Jun 17, 2013
At 8 o’clock tonight, Africa’s Champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on their Tahiti counterparts in the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Brasil.

Many Nigerians are disappointed that their darling Super Eagles were the last team to arrive Brasil due to dispute over bonuses. This development they believed has hampered the Eagles’ preparations thereby giving the small Polynesian island a glimmer of hope of causing an upset.

On paper, Nigeria is favourite. For example, Nigeria is Africa’s leading nation with vast experience of international competition, while Tahiti is a 138th-ranked island with a population of just 178,000. These two statistics alone mean there should be a vast gulf in class between the two sides this evening as they contest their opening games.

But with Nigeria troubled by a dispute between the squad and the nation’s football federation, are the Super Eagles well prepared and organised to fly over the Tahitian side? Do you think the Eagles can defeat Tahiti and with what scores?

PoliticsHouse Boy Jailed 2 Years For Stealing by etudaddy(op): 5:34pm On Jun 10, 2013
A 19-year-old house boy, Adebanjo Tosin, who took advantage of the disability of his master and stole his N150, 000, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Evbuoriaria Magistrate’s Court in Benin, Edo State, southsouth Nigeria.

The offence committed at 6, Osagioduwa Street, off Saint Saviour Road, Benin on 3 June, 2013, contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code.

According to Gogo Iguodala, he employed Tosin four months ago out of pity.

Narrating how the money was stolen, victim of the theft, Mr. Gogo Ighuodala who came to the court in a wheel chair, said: “Tosin took me into the the bathroom and after rubbing soap on my head and face, he locked me in the bathroom.

“Tosin immediately entered into my bedroom, took my N150, 000 and ran away.”

He further told the court how his disability renders him useless in many areas, adding that the only thing he succeeded in doing perfectly was reading and writing.

He said he would have forgiven Tosin, but that the conviction would serve as deterrent for others who like to take advantage of physically challenged persons.

Narrating how the accused was arrested, the prosecutor, Corporal Kehinde Adebiyi, said that Tosin was set-up with a lady who pretended to have fallen in love with him on phone.

“Tosin then booked an appointment to meet with the lady at Saint Saviour Market. At this time, Mr. Iguodala’s neighbours were already in a hideout. In the process of familiarization between Tosin and the lady, he was apprehended and arrested.”

Seven pairs of knickers, a belt, a pair of socks, two polo shirts, handless top, face-cap, kito slippers, radio ear-phone, phone-charger, wrist-watch and three set of beads recovered from the house boy were tendered as exhibit.

Tosin who owned up to his crime, told the court that he had no mother, adding that he left his grandmother and grandfather in Ondo state in search of daily bread in Benin City.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Precious Edogun, noted that Tosin not having parents in Benin is no excuse for him not being a good boy.

Edogun said, “based on the facts before the court, the accused is found guilty as charged.”

She thereafter sentenced him to two years imprisonment without option of fine.
