Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state against rejecting corps members posted to them.
Mr. El-Rufai gave the warning in Kaduna on Monday at the end of orientation course for the 2,450 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state under the first stream of 2015 batch ‘B’.
He said the government would view with seriousness any case of rejection of corps members by any agency.
“I am fully aware that the major challenge of corps members after the orientation course is rejection by prospective employers.
“To this end, I wish to use this medium to remind MDAs in the state not to reject corps members posted to them because it is against the state government policy”.
Represented by the Commissioner of Sports, Youth and Culture, Daniel Dan’auta, the governor promised the corps members an enabling environment to discharge their responsibilities.

Mr. El-Rufai called on Nigerians to always promote national unity and integration in line with the objective of the scheme.
The governor also noted that a sustainable economic development would only be built on a sound educational foundation.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Muhammed Momoh, advised corps members to respect the custom and tradition of their host communities.
He thanked the government and people of the state for their support to the NYSC over the years.

Palpable apprehension has gripped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over alleged plans by two of its governors to dump the party on whose platform they were elected for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
It was learnt that despite the brave showing of the PDP during its one-day national conference at the Thisday Dome, Abuja, last week, many participants at the gathering were actually jittery on account of reports that some of the party’s governors might be on their way to the APC.
“There is anxiety in the party over reports that two of our governors, not one, are currently negotiating their exit from the party. We are worried. Any serious party would be worried”, a party chieftain told The Nation.
“This development was widely discussed amongst participants at the last conference in Abuja though we all agreed it should form part of our agenda for the meeting”, the source, a Senator from the South-West, declared.
One of the governors identified as planning to dump PDP for the APC is Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The governor was conspicuously absent at the Abuja confab, which was organized to rebrand and reposition the PDP ahead of 2019 presidential election.
Already, a former director of Governor Umahi’s election in Afikpo, Senator Azu Agboti, has already defected to the APC.
Agboti’s defection, it was feared, may not be the last in Ebonyi State even though the state governor was recently reported as saying that he had no reason to want to quit the PDP.
Also said to be planning to dump the PDP for the APC is a governor from the Northeast.
It is not difficult to fathom which one of the two only PDP governors in the region is planning to defect.
Already, some of his close political associates have joined the APC in anticipation of his defection.
The northeast governor in question was in attendance at the Abuja conference of the party.
The source said: “Although it was not officially part of the agenda, the leadership of the party tasked chieftains on the need to remain in the PDP and shun all plots to decamp.
“And in various private discussions, the issue came up severally, giving indications that the party is really concerned over the reports.
“There is no way we will succeed in re-branding and repositioning the party ahead of 2019 general elections, as was planned at the confab if at the end of the day, it turned out to be true that two of our remaining Governors have been plotting to ditch the party”.

The Edo State Government is yet to receive the $75 million World Bank loan recently approved by the Senate for the state, Governor Adams Oshiomhole has disclosed.
He made the disclosure Friday in Benin, the state capital during a Colloquium organised by the State Government to round off activities marking his 7th year in office.
Oshiomhole said the clarification became necessary to instil confidence in the people that the state government’s ability to pay salaries up to date was not based on the loan, but on prudent management of resources.
He, however, pointed out that it was not the business of government to do business.
“It is rather to create the enabling environment for citizens to make wealth so that government could collect taxes and develop the society”.
Gov. Oshiomhole stressed that government and governance were not value-free, adding that the way forward was to focus on continued development of every sector of the economy.
He also said government would strategize to ensure that workers earned their pay and give government value for pay.
Mr. Oshiomhole used the occasion of the colloquium to announce that the government was considering reintroducing the dissolved Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) to help manage and control traffic in the state capital.
On aesthetics, he said the administration was looking at new approaches to ensure that sweeping of roads in the state capital becomes a permanent norm.
He said he recently approved money for the rebuilding and restoration of the water fountain at the Oba Ovoranmwen Square.
Earlier, a member of civil society group and discussant, Mr Austin Osakue, called on the governor to carry out a staff audit of the workforce in the state even as he advocated that government should embark on robust engagement of participatory system of governance.
Osakue noted that the governor, since the inception of his administration, was yet to use up 30 per cent of his capacity to encourage participatory system of administration.
He stressed that every sector of government should be included in a discussion that would ensure issues and challenges in the state were discussed with a view to finding a middle ground.
The moderator of the discussion, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), said the forum was to x-ray the present administration as well as use the opportunity to cross fertilise ideas.

The Kano State Police Command has intercepted 20,000 kilogram of weed that tested positive for cannabis sativa or Indian hemp worth N60 million, the state police commissioner, Muhammad Musa Katsina has disclosed.
The police boss said the consignment was stocked in two local shops at Ja’en quarters in the metropolis and that three suspects including the owner of the house, a 70-yr old woman (name withheld), were arrested in connection with the narcotics.
Parading the suspects and the 48 sacks of wrapped cannabis substance at Ja’en quarters on Friday, the CP Katsina said the real baron behind the banned substances was still on the run.
“I can assure you, the real baron will be arrested soon. We have extended our tentacles to various places and we will very soon arrest the man”, he assured.
Mr. Katsina said based on police preliminary findings, the cannabis was transported to Ja’en quarters around 2am when most residents were already fast asleep.
