Education / We Won’t Give Up On Chibok Girls —relatives by Examlibertytk(m): 9:15am On May 16, 2015
Relatives of the abducted Chibok girls have said they will continue to keep hope alive, despite the lack of knowledge about their whereabouts.
Boko Haram insurgents, last year, invaded the dormitories of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, and abducted no fewer than 200 female pupils of the school.

Expressing delight at the recent rescue of hundreds of women and children from the Sambisa forest, the relatives of the abducted pupils, who spoke in separate telephone interviews with our correspondent on Wednesday, said they were hoping to get positive news as the military continues onslaught of the insurgents.
A parent, Rev. Enoch Mark said, “Though we are not sure, we are hopeful that our daughters will be found. We were expecting our girls to be among those who were rescued but that was not so. But we learnt that the military are moving forward inside Sambisa forest.
Until we see their dead bodies, we will keep hope alive,’’ he said.
Mark added that the authorities had not invited any parent from Chibok to verify the identity of the liberated girls and women.
“We were not invited to see the freed girls. We learnt that the girls were conscious and were asked to name their villages,’’ he added.

A cousin to some of the abducted girls, Mr. Allen Manasseh, also said he was looking forward to seeing the girls again.
“Unless there is a closure, we cannot lose hope. So much noise had been made about their kidnap. If other Nigerians without a face have been recovered, we know the Chibok girls will be found. We are happy for the rescued Nigerians and we pray that the Chibok girls would also be back home soon,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, a member of the #BringBackOurGirls, Mrs. Aisha Yesufu, has called on the Federal Government to be accountable and treat citizens with respect.

Yesufu, who spoke with our correspondent on Thursday, affirmed that while the #BringBackOurGirls campaigners were happy that hundreds of abducted women and children had been rescued, it was important for the government to strengthen its feedback mechanism and engage its citizens on national matters.
“If anything, the rescue operation gives us fresh hope. We are calling on the government to deploy all resources in order to rescue the Chibok girls before May 29. I recall that the National Security Adviser said the girls would be rescued before May 29.

“We are happy that the 185 women and children abducted in Gumsuri have been rescued. We actually made a statement when they were abducted and it would have been 151 days today.

“The government denied it then and the military said it would investigate. But they never got back to us. Now, the same military is saying the Gumsuri women and children are part of those rescued.

“We shouldn’t be treated without dignity. The government should create a feedback mechanism. We demand accountability from the government. How many of our citizens have been abducted and how many are left?’’ she said.

Education / We Want Some Federal Colleges Of Education To Get Upgrade by Examlibertytk(m): 8:52am On May 16, 2015
The Committee of Chairmen of Governing Councils of Federal Colleges of Education has urged the Federal Government to upgrade some colleges of education that have the capacity to operate as universities.

The committee also congratulated the president-elect, Mohammadu Buhari, on his victory at the polls.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Emmanuel Anosike, made this known in a communiqué on Monday.
According to him, the committee members met at the Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Imo State.

The decision to canvass the upgrading of the colleges, the committee said, was to end the dichotomy between degrees and diploma holders.

The committee also frowned on the alleged encroachment on the property of some federal colleges of education in Akoka, Lagos and Owerri.

It also expressed displeasure over the continued embargo on recruitment of Physics, Chemistry, Science and Special Education teachers.

The communiqué read in part, “The committee recommended for serious consideration the upgrading of some colleges of education which have adequate staff strength and infrastructure to operate as universities of education.”

Education / Get Admitted Into 200L With UNN JUPEB – 2014/15 by Examlibertytk(m): 11:19am On Jan 08, 2015
Get Direct Entry Admissions into University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN and other JUPEB-affiliated universities in Nigeria and other Universities Abroad. Candidates with JUPEB results can apply for Direct Entry admission into 200 Level instead of the 100 Level for UTME.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) invites application from suitably qualified members of the public for Admission into the university Joint University Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme for 2014/2015 session.

What You Must Know About JUPEB.
The Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) is a new Advanced Level examination body recently established and coordinated by the University of Lagos. Basically, the programme is similar to the Interim Joint matriculation Board (IJMB) coordinated by Ahmadu Bello University and recognized by many universities in Northern Nigeria. JUPEB is, as at now, recognized by Federal universities in Southern Nigeria such as University of Lagos (Unilag), University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Ibadan (U.I.), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife (OAU), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), University of Ilorin, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), University of Port Harcourt, and University of Calabar. We expect that very soon more Universities will join the Board.

Meanwhile, the affiliated institutions have set up programmes to train candidates on the syllabus of the Board in subjects relevant to course intended to study. For example, Physics/Chemistry/Biology for medical courses, Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics for engineering courses, etc. The charges for the programme vary from institution to institution. The actual charges for the programme can be obtained at the website of the institution or through an inquiry at the institution.

The results issued by the JUPEB are graded like Cambridge A/Level results: A (5 points), B (4 points), C (3 points), D (2 points), E (1 point), F (0 point). Three subjects are offered by each candidate. Combination of the grades forms the total point that is used as cut-off for the course applied for in a particular institution. For example, University of Ibadan can say 13 points is the cut-off for Medicine and Surgery. That means, they can only admit candidates with either AAA (15 pts), AAB (14 pts), AAC (13 pts) or ABB (13 pts). Like Cambridge A/Level, the results of JUPEB do not expire. You can always use it to apply into same or another institution the following year. Candidates with JUPEB results can apply to JAMB for Direct Entry admission into 200 Level instead of the 100 Level for UTME.

Candidates Eligible for UNN JUPEB.
Eligible candidates must possess minimum of 5 Credits at maximum of two sittings in at least 5 subjects (inclusive of English Language) relevant to the candidates desired course of study in the University

Duration of UNN JUPEB Programme.
The duration of the programme is a minimum of one academic session of two semesters.
