The catalonians should force the Spanish police and other security outfit out of their region first. It's one thing to declare and , another thing to enforce. Even if they succeed, they'll be made a pariah state.

Declaring independence isn't the problem but who will recognize them? The only way this independence will work is only if they will be all alone. EU have already said that they can't recognize them, UK is too scared to recognize them because They have Scotland at their backyard waiting patiently to strike. USA has done the same thing too.
