PoliticsKwara APC Chairmanship Tussle: Join Us, Let’s Rescue Kwara Together - YPP To APC by excober080(op): 12:04pm On Jan 15, 2021
Kwara APC Chairmanship Tussle: Join us, let’s rescue Kwara together - YPP to APC members.

The Kwara State Chairman of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Mr. Charles Folayan has said that the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Party in Kwara State is a clear indication that the APC in the Kwara State is confused and has lost the original intent and purpose of the progressive movement.

The YPP Chairman had earlier posited that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had deployed autocratic kleptocracy in running his administration. He has gained a reputation for deception in the pursuit of his ambitions and he has amply deployed it against his fellow party men. Nobody will agree to be led by such a man. Respect is earned, not bought, stolen or demanded. However, as the saying goes, those who live by the sword will die by the sword.

Folayan noted that the crisis within the Kwara APC today is just a tip of the iceberg and that the party will soon implode. He implored the remaining progressives in the APC to take the bold step and join the Young Progressives Party while there is still time to undo the destruction of the Abdulrasaq administration. God forbid a second term of Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq. As Donald Trump was stopped to save the USA, so it shall be for Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq in Kwara State.

"The YPP is the party that would allow true democracy and deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Kwara State". The Chairman submitted that it is a misnomer to think that YPP is only for the youth, asserting that the Young Progressives Party is a party that needs the experience of selfless elders willing to guide, lead and nurture the youth to succeed. He said the word “young” in the party’s name, stands for "new". New ideas, new perspectives, new approaches to achieve a new Nigeria. INEC would never register a party that is just for a section of the society to the exclusion of others. Therefore, the party is for all men, women, young and old who believe in new progressive politics for true service of the people.

He therefore, encouraged the good people of Kwara State not to lose hope due to the maladministration of Governor AbdulRazaq but to look forward to a new Kwara, as YPP is poised to deliver the state from the grips of dictatorship in all forms.

ABDULRAZAQ MOVES AGAINST TINUBU IN KWARA, SPLITS APC INTO TWO FACTIONS

The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has just been divided into two warring factions following the purported removal of the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa who was swiftly replaced by his former deputy Alh. Abdullahi Samari.

The news broke yesterday by an online media platform in Ilorin which was later to be confirmed by a letter of appointment of Alh. Samari purportedly from National Caretaker Committee Chairman which was circulated to various online platforms by Aides and supporters of the Kwara State Governor Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

There has been several failed attempts made by Governor Abdulrazaq and his loyalists in the past to remove Bolarinwa, however, the recent letter in circulation is indicative of a possibility that the Governor’s camp might have finally secured the buy in of the National Caretaker Committee in this bid.

Following the news of Bolarinwa’s removal, some stakeholders and majority of the Gubernatorial Aspirants in 2019 general elections in the APC came out with a publication to debunk Bolarinwa’s purported removal, affirming that he, Bolarinwa, remains the authentic Chairman if the party in Kwara State.

There was also a new report in the online media platforms that the National Caretaker Chairman Gov. Maimala Buni has declared that the party would only recognize and work with the State Caretaker Chairmen inaugurated in December last year for the party membership validation and registration exercise.

Bolarinwa, a former Local Government Chairman in Lagos State and a former Member of the House of Representative is a loyalist of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He was reported to have participated in the manipulation of the 2019 primary election processes of Kwara APC to favour Governor Abdulraman Abdulrazaq with the support of the Minister of Information and Culture Alh. Lai Mohammed. Both Bolarinwa and Mohammed have since fallen out with the Governor.

The in-fight within the APC in the state is not just affecting Kwara State but also most of the States in Nigeria. It is reported that the power tussle between Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some Governors in the APC led by Gov. Kayode Fayemi and Gov. Nasir Elrufai is fueling the crisis across the states. Events of the next few days would further show the clear direction of the APC stakeholders towards the 2023 general election which no doubt would determine the much touted progressive motto of the party.

As all these events are unfolding and just as the public focuses it's attention on the seeming implosion within the APC, it is clear that the national convention of the party slated for a date yet to be fixed will have alot of stone to grind if the party will progress beyond 2023.

PoliticsCabinet Dissolution: Ypp Congratulates Gov. Abdulrasaq by excober080(op): 1:08pm On Jan 04, 2021
CABINET DISSOLUTION: YPP CONGRATULATES GOV. ABDULRASAQ

The Young Progressives Party, YPP, in Kwara State has congratulated Governor Abdulraman Abdulrazaq for taking the bold step to dissolve his much criticized cabinet.

According to YPP, "the dissolution of the cabinet by Governor Abdulraman AbdulRasaq barely two weeks after YPP pointed out the inadequacies of his cabinet, shows that the Governor is not averse to constructive criticism.

In a statement released by the Publicity Secretary of the Young Progressives Party in Kwara State, Comr. AbdulRazaq Sulaiman Oyan, the Party insists the dissolved cabinet was put together by the Governor without considering their experience and competence in the first place, which brought about their poor performance. Unfortunately, one full year has been wasted since these commissioners were appointed.

You would recall, that the YPP had earlier noted in its press release on 15th December, 2020 that the right calibre of youth were not considered in the administration of Governor Abdulrasaq. The party also stated then, that its agitation would propel the Governor to correct this. We believe that is what is happening now.

Therefore, we wish to advice the Governor not to use the appointment of new commissioners as bait to dangle in front of political jobbers for their loyalty, but to seize this opportunity to give Kwara State the best he can offer in terms of quality people in governance.

As a party, our criticisms are aimed towards guiding the government in the right direction.

There is no doubt that those sycophants and over zealous supporters of the Governor who are quick to attack everyone or group of people that try to point out the mistakes the government is making, should learn from this vindication of our position, and be bold enough to give sincere advise. Even if they lose temporary financial rewards, they will have their honour intact. Let us all join hands to build the Kwara of our dreams.

YPP HIT ABDULRASAQ HARD.

RE:YPP: Charles Afolayan should stop playing politics with the truth.

Our attention has been drawn to a purported response from a faceless group called Kwara Intelligentsia Initiative (KII) to the press statement released by our party the Young Progressives Party - YPP on 15th December, 2020 during the launch of our 2023 Ballot Revolution in Ilorin Kwara State.

Ordinarily, we would have ignored the faceless group and not dignify them with our response, but there is the need to educate this misguided group of individuals running errands for their slave masters, and also to expose more facts to the general public they intend to misinform.

It is unfortunate that this group of sycophants exposed their personal beef and envy of our Chairman who is one of the brightest young minds in Kwara politics, Mr. Charles Olufemi Folayan. The position of our party on issues cannot be attributed to an individual but to our party, and we stand by it.

YPP is a political party registered and certified by the Independent National Electoral Commision INEC, just like every other registered political party in Nigeria, thus, we would rather have expected a response from the ruling party the APC or the State Government on the issues of policies and governance that were raised, and not a response from a group of unidentifiable individuals.

YPP is not dominated by old people. Our party is dominated by ideas. "There is nothing like an idea whose time has come." We are not just young, but resourceful young people both at the National and State level. The party has the youngest National Chairman of any political party in Nigeria and the youngest political party chairman in Kwara State. The interim management committee of the party in Kwara State also has more than 80% of its members within the stipulated youth age range in line with the African Youth Charter.

Leadership Newspapers adoption of Governor Abdulraman Abdulrazaq as Governor of the Year 2020 is a joke. Can we compare Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq's performance in Kwara State to Governor Zulum of Borno, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Jide Sanwo Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun or Dave Umahi of Ebonyi. Some Newspaper or magazine awards are a dime a dozen, and can be procured by anyone. After all, Businessday also declared Governor Oyetola of Osun State as Governor of the Year. Which newspaper do we believe? In fact, the achievements of the YPP Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Anambra South senatorial district is more visible than that of the "Sakamanje" going on in Kwara State.

How does the appointment of a Youth Corp member as Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kwara State amount to an achievement on youth development? Such an appointment is insulting to Kwara Youth and has rubbished the value of that position. Or is it that the Governor is trying to showcase Joanna Kolo as the best of Kwara youth? A SUBEB teacher that can barely communicate in English was appointed as Commissioner for Education. Anyway, that may not be surprising for a governor who presented a WAEC certificate as his most prized educational qualification. What impact have the other powerless young commissioners had? Their appointment only confirms our assertion that the government does not give opportunities to the right calibre of youth. This is a strategy deliberately deployed to run an autocratic kleptocracy. The "blue eyed boy" in this Government is the Honourable Speaker - Danladi. He has a bright future, if he can only focus on doing the right thing, be his own man, and stop being the Governor's hatchet man in the parliament.

Governor Abdulrazaq's youth development plans have no head or tail. Let us make it clear that serious youth development must commence from education. It is obvious that the Abdulrasaq administration has nothing to offer on education. We have mentioned the selection of an incompetent Commissioner for Education. The infrastructure decay in primary, secondary schools and Kwara State owned polytechnics and colleges of education, and the scandalous award of school renovation contracts to the Governor’s family, nightclubbing friends from Lagos, and AA political loyalists at bogus amounts without tangible work done is another.

Organising cosmetic conferences and budgeting for monthly stipends to youth in the name of youth development is now outdated, Kwara youth deserve better. They deserve the kind of empowerment the Governor is doing for his own children abroad.

We are amazed that the group that wrote the article can defend a self indicted government, where a sitting commissioner blew whistle and exposed the ongoing massive corruption surrounding local government funds. No one would expect a logical person to take serious a government who constituted panels to preside over their own cases. That is all "Sakamanje." "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time." The anticipated conduct of local government elections in Kwara State as soon as possible is a must, and is non negotiable. That is the beginning of the local government autonomy we demanded for in line with the constitution of the country.

The comedy called Owo Arugbo or Owo Ishowo in the guise of taking care of our senior citizens is still under investigations by our party and our findings would be made public soon.

We want to make it clear, that our party - the Young Progressives Party is committed to rescuing Kwara State from the current opportunists who maneuver their ways to positions they are not qualified for academically or in terms of mental capacity and integrity. That is unless criminal intelligence is the qualification for success in politics and governance.

It should be noted that Nigerian youth will no longer settle for mediocrity, and kleptocracy. We have decided to take charge of the leadership transition from the old set of politicians to a new set of nation builders in politics.

The Young Progressives Party is a service oriented party that prioritizes merit and not mediocrity. It is a party that has a good reward system for all citizens. It is a party that will strive to unite and not divide. It is a party that will allow for local government autonomy. It is a party that will allow every young man and woman to participate meaningfully in politics and governance. It is a party that will address the issues of poverty and grassroots development. It is a party that is open to all people of integrity with the spirit of service.

We would never be deterred nor distracted by both the old and the young agents of the current political opportunists. We will take over by igniting a legal and peaceful ballot revolution that will consume all the current opportunist in power. And we will do it better. So, help us God!

PoliticsFormer Presidential Aide Lead Kwara Youth Out Of Apc, Declare Support For Ypp by excober080(op): 12:03pm On Dec 15, 2020
FORMER PRESIDENTIAL AIDE LEAD KWARA YOUTH OUT OF APC, DECLARE SUPPORT FOR YPP BALLOT REVOLUTION

Some youth leaders from major political parties in Kwara State has declared their exit from their various political parties to join the Young Progressives Party YPP.

In a press conference held at the State Secretariat of the Young Progressives Party in Ilorin, the group led by former Presidential Aide and the Former Secretary (Youth Mobilization) of the 2019 Presidential Campaign Committee in Kwara State Mr. Charles Folayan who is now the State Chairman of the YPP, the group lament the level of marginalization of resourceful young people in the current political system in Kwara State and in Nigeria as a whole.

YOUTH MARGINALIZATION
They are worried that the failure
of the current political leaders to sincerely involve the right calibre of youth in serious political engagement and decision making has compounded the country’s problems and triggered a huge set back to finding solutions to the many challenges facing Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY
They also expressed concerned on what they called the aberration of true democracy, through the maladministration of the local government system in the country.

They insist that the local government which is the third tier of government has been rendered useless by the state governors. The local governments' constitutional roles have been hijacked, and the operation of both local government and state accounts by state governors have automatically turned the local government councils to an extension of the state government. The unchecked looting that this "kidnapping" of local governments permits the State Governor cannot be ignored any longer.

They said, the obvious lack of separation of powers between the state government and local government council is causing extreme poverty at the grassroot level. It has also handicapped our royal fathers from effectively playing their roles in community development which is a contributory factor to the high level of crimes and insecurity in the country in most states.

However, it is obvious that most governors including our own in Kwara State are not willing to allow the local government system to function properly. They have refused to allow local government autonomy, as enshrined in the constitution and canvassed by many stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari. Some of these governors have zero interest in allowing local government elections to hold, thereby impoverishing the masses even more. This has to stop. Local governments must enjoy their legitimate autonomy.

The group is confident that if the local government is allowed to function properly, it would give a huge opportunity for the youth to participate in politics and governance as councillors and local government chairmen, thereby leading to youth empowerment and employment. This cannot be overemphasized.

THE OTOGE REVOLUTION
They claimed that the Ótogé political liberation in Kwara State was achieved largely through the effort of many committed, dedicated, progressive and loyal young people across the 193 wards of Kwara State, who put in all they had to support the struggle for the soul of our people.

They said, the Ótogé struggle has established a true democratic leadership selection system in Kwara State, setting the standard on how the people can freely choose or reject their leaders without being coerced or financially induced by any individual or group. However, our dream of having an all inclusive, transparent government with meaningful ideas has not been fulfilled.

CHALLENGES FACING NIGERIA
The group also believes that the challenges facing Nigeria and Nigerians at this moment in time cannot be solved by expired analog ideas in a digital age. What we see and witness everyday in our current leaders is the application of orthodox treatments to an ailment that has mutated. We need the new ideas, innovation, energy, intellectual capacity and productive skills of the youth to generate solutions. This cannot be over emphasized.

The world is now a global village. While we note the advantages of this new world, we must not also ignore its disadvantages. The Nigerian youth are becoming busy with the search for alternative solutions to their problems and the internet is already providing them with these alternative solutions, however undesirable.

The dangers of leaving the youth to their own devices, to "fend" for themselves, have been demonstrated in recent times. It is an invitation for anarchy and chaos to prevail. Therefore, the energy of the youth must be directed towards finding solutions.

THE END SARS PROTESTS
They said the #EndSars protest and the violence that followed were part of the expression of anger and frustration by the young people who are tired of government fabricated poverty and unemployment, compounded by intimidation and excesses by those who are paid to protect them.

They are worried that there is no adequate response to the demands of the youth and if a credible platform is not provided for the young people to achieve their long term yearnings, their energy might be diverted to destructive activities that would not help anyone at the end.

They said they have taken it as their mission to galvanize the energy of the youth, their strength, creativity, ideas and capabilities to drive the economy and governance of Nigeria to meet the aspirations of all.

2023 POLITICAL PERMUTATIONS
The group also expressed concern that the ongoing 2023 political permutations among the political elites does not reasonably consider the youth, and the various agitations of the youth is not given priority in their calculations. Their agreement and disagreement is never about the well-being of the people. However, we can not allow them to negotiate our future for us. We are the future. Any project about us, without us, is not for us. Any plan about Nigeria without the involvement of the youth is not for the youth and not for Nigeria.

WHY THE YPP BALLOT REVOLUTION
Therefore, given all of the above concerns and many more, and after a wide consultation with stakeholders, especially the youth, we are standing together as young people, we are ready to move the country forward from the old order - we have decided to join our likeminds in the Young Progressives Party, YPP, to build a stronger platform that would serve the people and open doors of success for young people in particular and Nigerians in general.

YPP as you all probably know is a unique party where the issues of young people are given utmost priority. A political group where the dreams and aspirations of Nigerians would be valued and respected. Where Nigerians will be given opportunities to thrive and grow. Where the productive energy of Nigerian youth will be turned to creativity and innovation.

YPP is a party where the strengths of young men and women will be galvanized to drive the economy and governance, and where the efforts of their patriotism will not be in vain.

For some of us, returning to YPP is a homecoming. I am proud to let you know that we started the Young Progressives Party together, and I have served as the pioneer National Publicity Secretary and National Youth Leader of the Party at different times before I was canvassed to join the APC to fight for the political liberation of our state in 2019. We did that successfully, but we have not yet reached the promised land. We have now decided to move forward and to serve our people better in the YPP.

Therefore, we can no longer wait endlessly. The time has come for all of us, both the young and the old, men and women of honour to join this party, YPP, to create a better place for all and sundry in order to save the future of our unborn generation.

We have decided to take our destiny in our own hands. We have decided to redirect our energy to a better cause. We have decided to reinvigorate our struggle for emancipation, awaken the populace and reignite our network to install quality leadership that will ensure a better life for our people. We resolve to allow young people to play key leadership roles in government, to use their knowledge and skills effectively to render service to our people and deliver tangible dividends of democracy to our communities.

We will not waste our energy in fighting the old guard, but rather focus on building young people for the task ahead. This is not a struggle for power but an empowerment of the most numerous, and yet the most marginalized demography - the Nigerian Youth.

Therefore, we are using this opportunity to call on our colleagues out there, in all the different political parties who might still be hanging around waiting for "crumbs", to rather take the bold step now and join this movement that would give us our rightful place in the leadership and governance structure. This is party is our own. It is worth our sacrifices. The time to start the “BALLOT REVOLUTION” is now.

We have kick started the YPP membership registration across the wards. Intending members should also follow our twitter account @kwaraypp, Facebook: Kwara YPP and website www.ypp.ng

Let us rescue our generation from the strangulation of generational hegemony. Let us end unemployment, Let us end poverty. Let us give our parents and children a better life. Let us win the future from now.

We have faith that God is with us and He would crown our effort with success.

Thank you and God bless!

CultureThe Ancient Wall Of Osi by excober080(op): 8:27pm On Dec 01, 2020
THE ANCIENT WALL OF OSI

Owolabi Sam Ibukun

So many times, archaeological findings have shown that *West Africa* had a long going civilization even before the advent of the colonial master, these facts debunk the idea that the development and civilization of West Africa societies came from the outside world.

One of the major problems facing most African civilization and history is the poor documentation most were gotten from mouth to mouth without proper dating maybe because of old age which could lead to a lost of memories or infallibility of human brains others are omissions, commission, additions, exaggeration and contradictions which may finally borne down to distortion of fact.

United States of America president Trump promised to build a wall across the Mexico-US border, in history the building of walls existed as a central part of the first civilization.

The Great Wall of China, Berlin wall of Germany, Troy walls in modern Turkey, Defensive Earthworks of Tikal in Guatemala all these are notable walls famous in the world.

Coming down to the Africa, there are more town walls in Nigeria than in all of the rest of West Africa, walls such as the ancient Kano walls, Sungbos Eredo walls and the walls of Benin, most of these walls were manually built without modern construction equipment and shows the sophistication of the early African societies.

Just like other Famous African ancient walls Osi wall was built long before the arrival of the colonial administration to protect the people from war and slavery.

At the earlier stage, Osi people lived in scattered areas within their domain, but with the advent of inter-tribal war and slavery, they decided to come together for a common defense.

They built round Osi a thick defense wall with a wide deep trench to the outside. This was the period of Olosi Aririmori -Oorun. The remains of this ancient wall can still be traced till today.
Heading from the North at Awu area on the border between Isare and Osi, cutting through to the West at Ogba Ila area and running through the South West part at Eregun-Igbo Area where the Arun Odi(Entrance of the wall) is situated.

This defense wall was the first major self-help project embarked upon by the people of Osi.
The city-wall was demolished in 1930 as a result of the road (Ilorin -Lokoja) that passes through Osi town. When the construction of the road was about to reach Osi, the ancient city wall turned an obstacle. As a result of this obstacle, the then colonial Master in charge of the project met the then *Olosi Alowolodu bi iyere* and demanded that the city wall be pulled down within a given time so as to pave way for the new road under construction. The said Olosi discussed this matter among his chiefs and other important people in the town, but no strong acceptance that the wall be pulled down.

At long last, with lots of explanation of what good and development the road will bring to Osi, the city wall had to be pulled down. When the day to pull down the wall came, almost all the whole town went to the site with the then Olosi himself but none of them was prepared to strike the first axe for they were all scared of the consequence of the unknown and the regret of destroying what the built for their own protection.

The then Olosi climbed the wall and publicly cut him on the leg. As his blood was seen gushing out onto the wall, the sympathetic crown who had been standing in silence started to pull down the wall. The whole wall was pulled down that day and so the new road had a chance of passing through Osi down to Lokoja.

The action of the then Olosi Alowolodu bi iyere to make his blood as a sacrifice before the wall could be pulled down no doubt had shown an act of great self-sacrifice, dedication and leadership.

May his soul continue to rest in peace.

Silver Jubilee: Ilorin under Sulu-Gambari has been transformed, says Gobir

Wazirin Hausa and renowned Entrepreneur, Alhaji Yakubu Gobir, has said that Ilorin Emirate in the last 25 years has been transformed, becoming one of the most famous Emirates in the country.

In a congratulatory message to the Emir of Ilorin on the event commemorating his 25 years on the throne, the front line philanthropist said the reign of the revered monarch would remain a point of reference for many reasons.

Waziri Gobir, said that the significance of the date of the Emir's Silver Jubilee is not lost on him as a student of history, because it coincides with Armistice Day. At 11am, on the 11th day of November, 1918 there was ceasefire bringing World War 1(one of the bloodiest wars in history) to an end.

He commended the Emir for his peaceful disposition and his spirit of accommodating people from all walks of life, which he said is one of the Emir's endearing qualities.

Gobir Foundation adopts Okesuna Primary School. Sets aside N100m for development.

A non governmental organization in Kwara State, The Gobir Organization Foundation has adopted the first primary school in Kwara State, Okesuna Primary School Ilorin.

Speaking during the event marking the adoption of the school on Thursday 27th February 2020. The founder of the foundation, Waziri Yakub Gobir, said that the organization has set aside N100 million for development of the school over the next five years.

The school, founded in 1915, a year after the amalgamation of Nigeria, has produced several eminent personalities including the 9th Enir of Ilorin Alhaji Zulukarnaini Gambari. Alhaji Mohammed Gobir the first Waziri of Ilorin was a head master at the school from 1931 to 1934. The late Ambassador Abubakar Garba Gobir graduated from the school in 1958. He later became a teacher in the school. Alhaji Salihu Gobir was also a head master between 1963 to 1965. The Gobir family therefore has a very strong affiliation with the school. This explains Waziri Yakubu Gobir's interest in adopting Okesuna Primary School.

Alhaji Gobir, an illustrious son of the Ilorin Emirate, said that he is delighted to complement the efforts of the State Government.

Waziri Gobir also said that his intervention would be a life time approach, adding that failure of other educational interventions in the country is lack of continuity.

Waziri also said that primary education is the basis of future academic excellence in every child. Adding that whatever level attained in education is affected when the primary level is faulty.

He, therefore, commended the teaching staff of the school for sustaining academic excellence that the school is noted for over the years.

Also speaking, the Education Secretary of the Ilorin East Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdulahi Hassan, said areas of urgent attention in the school include provision of furniture and toilet facilities, adding that "there is no single toilet for both students and teachers since the school B was established.

Other needs are repair of school borehole, equipping of computer room, science kits, supply of ceiling fans, school furniture, structural repairs, etc.
