Politics › Re: Jigawa Gets Strong Flood Alert Amid Heavy Rainfalls by Exousiang01(m): 11:34am On May 26 |
DailyGistsNg: The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has cautioned residents of Jigawa State against environmental practices that could increase the risk of flooding, particularly in vulnerable communities during the rainy season. The warning follows recent forecasts by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), which projected that heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in more than 14,000 communities across 33 states, including Jigawa. Jigawa is among the states frequently affected by annual flooding, with previous incidents resulting in destroyed homes, damaged farmlands, property losses and, in some cases, fatalities. As part of efforts to reduce the impact of possible flooding, the Jigawa State Directorate of the NOA held an engagement session with journalists in Dutse on Monday to strengthen public awareness and preparedness. Speaking during the session, the NOA State Director, Ahmad Ibrahim, said the agency’s awareness campaign would focus on flood mitigation, emergency preparedness, continuous voter registration and discouraging misuse of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). According to him, the sensitisation drive became necessary following flood warnings contained in the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook. “Flooding is a recurring natural disaster aggravated by climate change and often worsened by human activities such as waste disposal in waterways, poor infrastructure maintenance and illegal construction on floodplains,” Ibrahim said. He warned that environmental habits such as indiscriminate dumping of waste into drainage channels, poor drainage maintenance, deforestation and construction on waterways had continued to expose communities to avoidable flood disasters. The NOA official stressed that while flooding is often caused by natural factors, human behaviour significantly increases the scale of destruction. NOA To Intensify Awareness Across 27 LGAs Ibrahim disclosed that Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers would be deployed to all 27 local government areas of the state, especially flood-prone communities, to educate residents on preventive measures and emergency response. He urged residents to pay close attention to early weather warnings and improve environmental sanitation. “We encourage citizens to strengthen environmental sanitation, ensure drainages are cleared of waste, and embrace tree planting to minimise the risk of flooding,” he said. NOA Highlights Voter Registration And RUTF Misuse Beyond flood awareness, the agency also encouraged eligible residents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which resumed on May 11 and is expected to continue until July 10, 2026. Ibrahim said the exercise targets first-time voters, individuals seeking transfers and those requiring corrections or replacements of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The NOA also raised concern over the growing misuse of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, a nutritional product designed specifically for severely malnourished children. The agency warned against the sale and improper consumption of RUTF, noting that the product is provided free through government and partner interventions and should not be commercialised. Ibrahim further commended the efforts of the wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Hadiza Namadi, for supporting awareness campaigns aimed at protecting vulnerable children. He appealed to the media and residents to sustain advocacy efforts, stressing that misuse of the therapeutic food could deny malnourished children access to life-saving treatment.

Although I have walked around the market to price Ram, unfortunately the price is so outrageous, and I can't even stand it.
This gives me the idea to plan my budget, and I gave her 800k for 3 rams with the hope that if I am not comfortable, I will buy one Ogunfe to support it. And here is what she delivered...
Seriously, I don't know how to appreciate her enough, but my mom is not comfortable with the RAM and said it's too small for that amount...
All this, my mother doesn't go out or know what things are being said in the market, but she keeps annoying me with her resistance to the good gesture of my stepmother.
Please, what do you guys think about the price?

He joined the APC hoping for protection, only to be stripped naked and laid bare. I’ve never seen a governor disrespected like this since the beginning of the Fourth Republic. He would have gotten impeached of he had remained in the PDP, Remember the State House of Assembly still made a move to impeach him even after he moved to join the House members in APC. It took the intervention of the APC NWC and the Chairman to died it down. So imagine if he had remained in the PDP, he won't have gotten the support because the APC at the national level won't won't support him against the house. If the House had impeached Fubara and the deputy the speaker automatically takes the office. The APC would have supported the House |

Dogalmighty17: Let's not forget. How much did the APC say they spend on a prisoner daily? They spend 1,125 naira daily to feed each prisoner. My people what can that amount buy for you outside? Has it even bought your breakfast?
In everything you do, avoid any trouble that will make you see the four walls of a Nigerian prison.
Now, the young man in that video was sent to the kirikiri prison at the age of 14. He is 17 now. He is still very much a minor. What is a minor doing in prison for crying out loud? Imagine how useful Seyi Tinubu would have been to himself and his father, the level of goodwill he would have generated if he had made decongestion of prisons a pet project of sorts. Sadly such thoughts will never cross his mind. How will Seyi a private citizen decongest the prisons. Only a governor and president can grant pardons. The Lagos state government already has the office of the public defender and I know for sure that the office is functioning and providing legal services for those who can't afford it. The question you should be asking is "what crime he actually committed" . When you walk into a prison every one in there claims they are innocent Should we just release people because they say they are innocent? Should be boy just be released because he said he is innocent? Have you been robbed by these children at night in Lagos before? They are between 12 and 18. I saw some attack a guy at the speed bumps in front of Toyota, behind House on the rock off Kunsela road last year. They were about 10 of them. Anyone of them arrested would tell you they are innocent. I am not disputing the fact that we have a lot of innocent people in prisons today, but that's not the responsibility of Seyi. That's the job of the Judiciary Note: News reports like these should be shared around to teens and youths, parents should send this to their children. This is one of the many things that can happen when you keep bad company or/and engage in crime. |

realG101: I think the right question is, why does the nomination and interest form cost 10M for wanting to 'serve your country'?
Isn't that a way to systemically keep upright people out of the race?
Nigerian is morally bankrupt and things will only get worse. 1. If the form was N5k do you know how many idiots would have bought it? Do you know how much chaos it would cause to have over 1000 people running for primaries in one Federal Constituency 2. The price is put high because the party needs money to run it's affairs. Primary the elections automatically means general elections are around the corner, every party needs money. During the 2023 election the those who bought form for presidential election were about 20, even Yahaya Bello and Onu bought forms, That was their contribution to the party for the elections. Not everything is as you see in politics. Form is another way of getting money into the party treasury without raising dust |
