2015: At presidential declaration, Kwankwaso blasts FG on corruption 0 BY TAIWO AMODU, ABUJA ON OCTOBER 29, 2014 · COVER, POLITICS Kano State Governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has swelled the ranks of aspirants seeking for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Kano State governor made his formal declaration yesterday in Abuja, to seek for his party ticket, ahead of its presidential convention slated for December. Addressing the gathering of APC national officers and governors, Kwankwaso promised to bring an end to the security challenge confronting the nation, particularly the North-East. He said: “Mr. Chairman and fellow APC members, the call to save our dear country has never been louder, clearer and more unambiguous than now. Every facet of our national life is deteriorating: governance has been reduced to mediocrity, incompetence and impunity.” I have no doubt in my mind that this journey is difficult and arduous. I have no illusion about the enormity of the challenges, but to save our country, we must walk the journey, however difficult. And we must confront and defeat all the challenges, however monstrous. “Yes, we must! The first priority of this country at this moment is restoring peace and security in every corner of the land. Lives and properties of our citizens must be protected and secured. Boko Haram and all forms of insurgency must be defeated. As a government, we cannot afford to live in denial. Insecurity is escalating at an alarming rate. Little wonder, rag-tag insurgents are taking over cities and towns in the North-East. “My experiences as Nigeria’s defence minister and as special adviser on war-torn Darfur and Somalia have shown me that securing a nation and fighting and defeating armed insurgents are only achievable if the forces are professionally mobilised, properly kitted and equipped, highly spirited, and correctly armed with intelligence and ammunitions.

BY OUR REPORTER ON OCTOBER 21, 2014 · NATIONAL Former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Audu Ogbeh, has apologised to the #Bring Back Our Girls Group (#BBOG) for comments he made about it. Ogbeh, had, while speaking at General Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 presidential declaration, in Abuja, last week, said the #BBOG was led by members of the APC, while commending the campaigners for sustaining global attention on the missing Chibok girls. He had stated: “We send our greetings to the Chibok parents. We believe that one day they will be reunited with their children. We commend the Bring Back Our Girls movement led by members of our party for their commitment. They remain the only living witnesses that Nigeria still has a conscience.” Ogbeh’s speech had received condemnations, especially from members of the group. Reacting to the comments, former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, a leader of the group, said in Twitter message: “I take very strong exception to what is being credited to Mr. Audu Ogbeh of APC. Another tragic low in making #ChibokGirls political pawns. “I am neither covertly or overtly a member of the APC, PDP or any other party. It is false and wrong to say @BBOG_Nigeria is led by members of the APC.”This is wot d Apc is known 4. 2many aggrieved men in Apc Also, the Presidency said Ogbeh’s comments confirmed its suspicion that #BringBackOurGirls campaigners were working for the opposition party. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, had stated that the roles played by an activist, Dino Melaye, and the presence of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign initiator, Hadiza Bala Usman, at Buhari’s declaration, were proofs of their agenda to politicise the abduction of the more than 200 Chibok girls. He wrote: “Our longstanding view of BBOG movement’s hidden agenda to unseat the Jonathan administration received full justification yesterday (on Wednesday.) Roles played by Dino Melaye and the presence of BBOG’s initiator, Hadiza Bala Usman at Buhari’s declaration is proof of the true aim of politicising the agony of the Chibok girls and their families. This is now fully apparent, the true agenda and prime movers of BBOG movement.” Apparently regretting his comments, Ogbeh, in a letter to the group, dated October 20, 2014 said he was wrong to have said that #BBOG was APC members. His letter reads: “I feel obliged to let you know that my statement at our function last week was not intended to paint your group as an APC sub-group. This is because. From what we now know less than two per cent of the group are our party members, but members we valued highly. The rest of you are not and may not even belong to any political association whatsoever. This is not to say that you have no right to be if you choose to. “If my statement caused you discomfort, I do apologies, but reiterate that I have nothing but respect and admiration for you for keeping a six-month vigil and telling the world that the Nigerian conscience is not entirely dead. The world is watching us and making judgment.

An old man filled wit bitternes, revenge, pains, religious bigotness can neva rule Nigeria |
Nigeria’ll go down the drain in 2015 if –Buhari 0 BY NOAH EBIJE, KADUNA ON OCTOBER 19, 2014 · POLITICS ■ Our politicians should not divide the North –ACF Former Head of State and All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential aspirant, General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd) came down heavily on the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying Nigeria would be washed away as a country if the ruling party is given four more years in office in the 2015 general election. In the same vein, the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Ibrahim Coomassie, in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by Barrister Solomon Dalung, urged northerners not to allow themselves to be divided by the artificial differences created by politicians. ACF urged politicians from the northern extraction to put the interest of the north first and above their personal interest, saying ACF’s desire is for a united north that could give credible leadership in the country. Speaking yesterday, in Kaduna, on behalf of other presidential aspirants of APC, at the party’s Northern stakeholders’ interactive meeting, General Buhari noted that Nigerians had become tired of incompetent leadership and urged the electorate to ensure that free, fair and credible elections that will usher in credible leaders at all levels of governance in the country are held. APC presidential aspirants present at the meeting included former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Sam Nda Isaiah. Other members were Zamfara State Governor, Abdulazeez Yari, APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu, among others. The former Head of State described 2015 as another year of extreme concern to Nigerians, urging participants at the meeting not to allow their members to be disenfranchised before or during the elections. Apparently, making caricature of huge presence of security operatives in Ekiti State during the gubernatorial election in the state, Buhari noted that the number of soldiers, police and SSS deployed to the state during the election, were enough to rescue the abducted Chibok girls if the same number was deployed to the troubled north east. He recalled with pains that he contested presidential election three times in the country and ended up in the Supreme Court to challenge his failure, saying that judges that ruled on the cases were his own brothers from the North, while those behind him were Southern Christians. Buhari said: “If PDP is given another four years to rule this country, Nigeria will go down the drain in 2015. This is because Nigerians are tired of incompetent leadership, so we must be ready to make sacrifices that will salvage the country, let us not allow our people to be disenfranchised during the elections, we must be united to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2015. “I contested the Presidential election three times in this country and failed and ended up in the Supreme Courts and lost the case. The first time the judges agreed that there were no elections and they were all Christians, but the second time, the judges that declared that the PDP had won despite the irregularities, were Fulanis from Adamawa and Taraba, and a Nupe man, that was when I understood that it was not about religion and ethnicity, but Naira and Dollar. So, there is the need for the party to be united and make a difference in the general elections in 2015.” Meanwhile, in his opening speech, the APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu said one of the reasons for the stakeholders meeting was to sensitize the leaders of the party about their roles as guardians and conscience of the party. Shuaibu said, “We expect that at the end of this meeting, we will be able to develop and adopt strategies for enhancing party unity and discipline. We equally hope that aside from what the constitution specifies, we will be able to come up with home-spurned internal conflict resolution mechanisms that will solidify the party and build it into a strong institution.”
