If we are going to be playing Pogba and Bruno together long term McTominay is the best bet. He makes almost as many tackles and interceptions as Fred and he gets dribbled a small fraction of the times Fred gets dribbled.

There are many times i see McTominay go for a shoulder to shoulder tussle with an opponent and either get the ball, give away a smart foul or concede a throw-in. Those are the types of balls Fred is not able to retrieve and is left rolling on the floor because of his small size while ref waves play on.

Other times he goes charging in like petrol tanker with a failed brake and misses the ball and player completely.

Imagine either of these scenarios happening with Pogba and Bruno far upfield as his midfield partners.

LOUDER.

I keep hearing that Fred is better defensively than McTominay but that is debatable.

Looking at this season's EPL stats Fred is marginally better in tackles and interceptions per game (2.2 and 1.4) compared to McTominay (2.0 and 1.3). However Fred is dribbled past a whopping 4 times a game compared to McTominay's 0.7 per game.

In other words, the number of dribbles McTominay chops in 4 games Fred chops in a single game. Odikwa TOUGH.

It's a simple question, why will Fred struggle with Pogba, but plays well with Matic and Mc tominay.

Fred will play well with either Matic or Scott in a 2 man midfield... But won't function well with Pogba.

Fred and Pogba in a 2 man midfield is always rubbish

Fred and Paul Pogba is not a combination which has paid off when it has been trialled.

They have started just one match together this season, in the EFL Cup match at home to Rochdale, which ended 1-1, before United won on penalties.

Fred began the season on the sidelines, before Pogba picked up an injury which has kept him out since, and only after that did the Brazilian’s role increase.

But we did get a closer look at a Fred and Paul Pogba partnership at the end of 2018/19, and it wasn’t pretty.


United lost five out of six games Fred and Pogba started together.

These included a 2-0 loss to Arsenal, 2-1 to Wolves, 4-0 to Everton, and 2-0 to City, only managing a 2-1 win over West Ham during this stretch of league games from February to April last year.

There was a 3-0 loss at the Nou Camp to Barcelona in there too, in which both players started.

The win over West Ham in April 2019, 14 months ago, was the last time Fred and Pogba started a game together which United won.

Our midfield should be Mata/Bruno ---- Pogba/Fred-----Matic/Scott

We are talking about their roles as CM not when they have permissions to play as the AM. If Pogba will be playing as an AM then I have no problem with that. But as CM, there are plenty questions.

What are the things you expect from a CM?

You have to choose one, better defensive play (Fred) or better attacking play (Pogba).

And don't forget the best way to defend is by attacking.

Defensively he has improved a lot. He's a Runner, energetic, more like a B2B Midfielder. He has paid his Dues, thus he has earned my Respect.

That won't work, when you have Matic and Scot available...

Pogba and Bruno won't play all the games, so there is more than enough game-time for everyone.

With Pogba and Fernandes in the starting 11, the only player that can join the midfield is either Matic or Mc Tominay.

Except we are playing a weak opponent, that is when Fred will start with those 2 superstars.

I prefer Bailly over Lindelof anyday and time too, but Bailly loses concentration at times and in using his pace and physicality to make amends he rushes into tackles and often comes off worse(injured) .....Lindelof is known as the Iceman for a reason

Lindelof reads the game better but is too passive, dude is always bullied, but Bailly na crase man, very aggressive and thoughtless atimes... if he can stay fit and reduces those his sudden blood rush then it will be hard for a manager to pick lindelof over him. Both are different types of defenders by the way with much room for improvement.

Go check the stats, Lindelof has not made any errors leading to goal this season. If you say he is a bit jittery some times, i'd agree with you. But that is a confidence issue and he is certainly growing more confident every match day.

How can you compare Baily's situation to Neymar and Kane? Neymar and Kane still directly influence where their team finishes in the league despite their injuries. Can the same be said of Bailly? Can you boldly say that if Bailly was fit all season and he has been playing instead of lindelof that we would have conceded less goals? What impact would Bailly have on the team that Lindelof cannot or doesn't have?

Don't get me wrong, I like Bailly and i have high hopes for him. But Bailly has not even been available for selection and i will always choose a player who makes himself available over a player who spends the season in a sick bay.

YES, we would have conceded less goals and more clean sheet, with Bailly and Maguire as our CB pairing.

And nobody is disputing his ability, but compared to Lindelof's consistency and improvment, he is way below........and apparently you only made mention of just one match while Lindelof has been bossing most times even more than Maguire

Even with Lindelof's improvement, Baily is still better.... I will even pick Smalling ahead of Lindelof.

Baily's issue is just injury, if he can stay fit................Lindelof will always be on the bench

Maybe you should just mention a defensive attribute that Lindelof has more than Baily ( Tackling, Aerial duels, Interceptions, Confidence on ball etc)
