Interchanges are great, because unlike standard intersections, they allow free flow of intersecting roads rather than having to stop at traffic lights or roundabouts.

But sometimes interchanges can be extremely complicated with many junctions and even several levels (those are called stack interchanges).

Such a complicated interchange is sometimes nicknamed “Spaghetti Junction“.

Take a look at these photos of mind-blowing interchanges.

Foreign AffairsNorwegian Politician Protests Unclad Against Cruise Ship Sailing Around His Home by Explorers(op):
A 71-year-old politician from Norway has protested the excess number of cruise ships passing by the fjord where he holidays, by stripping off and taking a photo.

Svein Ingvald Opdal, a local politician for Norway's Green Party, took all his clothes off and posted a picture onInstagramof himself in the nude, baring all to the passing cruise ships.

'We arrived at Olden earlier on Wednesday and we immediately came upon three major cruises ships.

'We later realised there were 11,000 (cruise ship visitors) in total, and I'm not all that thrilled about these big cruise ships' he added.

Later in the week he noticed an increasing number of cruise ships passing by and mooring in the small town where he has a holiday home.

By Sunday, he had enough, and when he saw two new ones arriving he asked his wife to take a picture of him from behind, exposing himself to the ships.

While his wife willingly took the snapshot, she refused to post it on Instagram or Facebook, so the politician did it himself.

Using the caption 'I protest' the politician posted it to his Instagram.

Science/TechnologyRe: NASA Launches Parker Solar Probe For Historic Mission To The Sun (Photos) by Explorers(op):
This mission will require 55 times more energy than would be needed to reach Mars, according to NASA.

The probe will rely on a series of gravity assists from Venus to slow down its sideways motion, allowing it to get just 3.8 million miles away from the sun's surface.

The historic mission will give us the best opportunity yet to study the star that holds up our entire solar system. And, it's one of the last places within our stellar neighborhood that has yet to be explored.

Roughly 1,400 pounds of solar projection and science equipment are protected by an advanced heat shield, which uses a 4.5-inch thick carbon composite foammaterial between two carbon fiber face sheets.

The probe can be seen above as it was lifted onto the third stage rocket motor

The $1.5billion (£1.17billion) Parker Probe blasted offatop one of the most powerful rockets in the world.

It will eventually hit record-breaking speeds of up to 430,000 miles per hour as it completes 24 orbits of the sun over the course of seven years.

At this speed, it would take two minutes to travel from London to New York.

While orbitting the sun, the craft will swing around Venus seven times, using the planet's gravity to push it closer and closer to our star with each pass; eventually, the Parker probe will get within 3.8 million miles of the sun's surface.

It will make its first fly past Venus in October, and is protected by a revolutionary new heat shield.

That will set up the first solar encounter in November.

It will be subjected to temperatures of roughly 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,371°C) when it comes closer tothe sun than any spacecraft in history but, behind its thick heat shield, it will only feel like a hot summer day, with this sheltered region maxing out at about 85F (29C).

NASA has finally sent a spacecraft on a mission to fly where no probe has ever gone before into the sun's scorching outer atmosphere.

The probe took off at 3.31 ET (8.31 BST) this morning.

It was initially set to launch at 3.33am ET (8.33am BST) yesterday, but poor conditions meant it was pushed back 24-hours.

The unmanned spacecraft is on an unprecedented quest that will take it straight through the edges of the corona, or outer solar atmosphere, just 3.8million miles from the sun's surface.

Previously, the closest an aircraft had come to the sun was 27million miles.

Preparing to launch: The probe gets ready for take-off at T-minus one second this morning.

TravelWater Pumped Out From Thailand's Cave Destroyed Rice Farm, See Farmer's Response by Explorers(op):

Her large rice field was destroyed by the 130 million liters of water pumped from the Thai cave during the rescue mission of 12 Boys and their coach trapped in the cave.

But Chaicheun does not care about her flooded crops, she's just thankful the team made it out alive.

TravelRe: Eastern Island To Demand Return Of Statue Taken To U.K. 150-years-ago(photos) by Explorers(op):
At first it may appear that the statue heads make up the whole of the statues but archeologists decided to dig and found that full bodies were attached to the heads.

The UK has previously faced calls to return other items like Benin bronzes to Nigeria and Elgin marbles to Greece.

Cambridge University removed a gold cockerel after students demanded the statue be returned to a royal palace in Nigeria from where it was plundered during a 19th century British naval expedition.

BENIN BRONZES: THE CELEBRATED ARTWORKS

The Benin Bronzes are a set of artworks created to celebrate the Benin Kingdom in what is modern-day Nigeria.

Created by the Edo people in the 13th Century, many were looted from the area by British expeditions.

Today museums throughout Britain, Germany and the U.S. hold hundreds of the items despite pleas from Nigeria for the artifacts to be returned.

When colonialists first discovered the pieces adorning the country's royal palaces, they were amazed that such incredible artwork could be created by people so 'primitive'.

Today they remain some of the most celebrated artworks to emerge from Africa, but much like Greece's Elgin Marbles, they are mired in controversy due to the circumstances in which they were acquired.

Greek governments have called for their return to Athens since the 1980s and have even enlisted Amal Clooney to help their campaign.

TravelRe: Eastern Island To Demand Return Of Statue Taken To U.K. 150-years-ago(photos) by Explorers(op):
WHAT ARE THE STATUES ON EASTER ISLAND AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN?

What are the statues?

The Moai are monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island, between 1,250 and 1,500 AD.

All the figures have overly-large heads and are thought to be living faces of deified ancestors.

The 887 statues gaze inland across the island with an average height of 13ft (four metres).

The tallest complete statue that has been unearthed in 33 feet tall and weigh an incredible 82 tons.

Another statue was unearthed in incomplete state. As per scientific calculations, it would have measured 69 feet in height and 270 tons in weight had it been completed.

Different rocks had been used for carving the statues.

Out of 887 known Moai, 834 were carved out from compressed volcanic ash known as tuff.

All the statues always faced away from the oceans. That is, they faced inland.

However, there is one exception. Only one statue faces the ocean and is located at Ahu Akivi, which was a sacred place for the Rapa Nui people.

The possible reason for the statues facing away from the ocean and facing inland towards the villages is that the people of Rapa Nui thought of the statues as protectors of their people overlooking the village.

Nobody really knows how the stone statues that guard Easter Island were moved into position.

Of all statues unearthed, only one was found to be in kneeling positing.

TravelEastern Island To Demand Return Of Statue Taken To U.K. 150-years-ago(photos) by Explorers(op):
The British Museum could soon come under pressure to give back a 'stolen' statue to Easter Island 150 years after it was given to Queen Victoria as a gift.

The Moai statue was allegedly taken from the island by Richard Powell, captain of HMS Topaze, in 1868 before being handed over to the museum by the monarch.

On Easter Island, the world famous statues were built in tribute to tribal leaders after their deaths.

Rapa Nui authorities, 2,000 miles from mainland Chile, have requested help to get the basalt returned to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A spokeswoman for the British Museum said: 'We have received no official request here at the British Museum for the statue to be returned to Easter Island.

'The Moai sculpture that we have in the museum is on permanent display to the six million people who walk through our doors every year and we think there is a great public benefit to keeping it here for all of those people to see and appreciate.

'We also believe it is important to represent the history of Easter Island's indigenous community in the British Museum.'
