Members of the public pay their respects by placing flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

An unidentified coffin was sealed in the white marble tomb on November 11, 1921 to honor all U.S. service members whose remains have not been identified and has remained an a important national monument ever since.

* Guards have kept visitors away from the memorial at Arlington National Cemetery since 1925.

* The Tomb has been blocked off to the public and guarded by a solider 24 hours a day since 1925.



In honor of its centennial celebration, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be open for the public to pay their respects and lay flowers on the plaza for the first time in nearly 100 years.

For two days this month, November 9 and 10, they will be allowed to get close and place flowers at the Tomb.

The Tomb's plaza at the Arlington National Cemetery opened on Tuesday and will remain open on Wednesday in honor of its centennial commemoration.

Members of the public will be allowed to pay their respects and lay a flower at the Tomb between 9am and 4pm during the two-day ceremony.

Visitors to the sacred memorial site, who were required to register online, will be required to provide a government-issued ID for entry.

The stunning bracelets were sold by a mystery European royal family member at Christie's auction in Geneva, Switzerland.

The bracelets were hidden once she and her husband King Louis XVI were taken as prisoners in Paris during the French Revolution and were found after her beheading in 1793.

She originally bought the bracelets for 250,000 livres in 1776, just two years after taking the throne with her husband King Louis XVI, paying for them partly with gemstones from her personal collection and with funds provided by her husband.

Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France before the French Revolution.

The bracelets were hidden once she and her husband King Louis XVI were taken as prisoners in Paris during the French Revolution and were found after her beheading in 1793.

Marie Antionette placed the bracelets in a wooden chest entrusted to Austrian ambassador and friend Count Mercy-Argenteau, in Brussels in 1791.

Marie Antoinette's two diamond bracelets were sold for £6million after being expected to fetch up to £3million at an auction today, 228 years after her death.

The pair of silver and yellow gold bracelets are both made up of three strands and contain 112 diamonds.

They were among her few surviving possessions sent from France two years before she and her husband, King Louis XVI, were captured during the French Revolution and beheaded in 1793.
