5. US - Airforce One ($325,000,000).

Its a revamped Boeing VC-25 and has a price tag of $325 million. President Barack Obama has held countless meetings on the Air Force One, and it is a staple to the United States Presidency. Obama spends loads of time on this aircraft, and why not? It’s got a lavish interior, room for his desks and conference rooms, and enough technology to make the Apple store jealous. The Air Force One is capable of flying 7,800 miles(12,600 km) roughly one-third the distance around the world without refueling. It can be refuelled during flight from a tanker aircraft(air to air refuel) and can hold more than 100 passengers.

3. Saudi Arabia Airbus A380 ($500,000,000).

Ready to be absolutely enthralled by a piece of modern-day machinery? Then say hello to the custom-designed Airbus A380. Purchased by the prince of Saudi Arabia, it is almost like a five-star hotel that flies. It can hold up to 800 passengers (who would need all those people?!) and is just another addition to the prince’s collection of private planes. This is number four for him. If we had this plane, we would never have to leave it. It has got a full-service spa, multiple flat-screen televisions, asauna, and a dining room that seats about twentyof the luckiest guests in the world. There is even the “Magic Carpet” room, which is the delight of all who see it.

2. Saudi Arabia - Boeing 747 ($520,000,000).

A whole $150 million alone were spent on the interior of the plane. Hey, King Abdullah did have to compete with the other head honchos of Saudi Arabian history. Other leaders have gotten around in some pretty lavish planes. This could perhaps be the most luxurious aircraft to date, and has earned the nickname the “flying palace.”

1. Mexico - Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner $600,000,000.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is currently the most expensive plane in the world. Not only is the price tag outstanding, but so are the Dreamliner’s looks. Its design is sleek and sophisticated and it looks like a giant eel soaring through the air. It can reach speeds upwards of 1,000 miles per hour and could even fly from the West Coast of North America all the way to the East Coast of Asia.

Engines and wingspans, cockpits and more. These are the things that makes great planes. Forget trains and automobiles, we all know that if you want to travel in the ultimate style and luxury, you need to go with a nice aircraft, and the leaders of the world definitely know that this is the case. They cough up huge amounts of money(sometimes to the chagrin of the people they are governing) to ride in the swankiest modes of transport available. Here we have the most expensive presidential planes in the world. The price tags are astronomical, but these are some airliners that we need to see to believe. From in-house spas and dining rooms, to the latest technological and aviation equipment, to interior design that rivals the most pristine and lavish royal palaces, these planes are pieces of luxury in the skies. And while we would love to take a ride in them, the best most of us can do is to read about them. If you can get over the super-expensive price of these planes, you can appreciate their awesome specifications and the power and muscle they’ve got.

14. CCTV.

Marie Van Brittan Brown’s system for closed-circuit television security, patented in 1969, was intended to help people ensure their own security, as police were slow to respond to calls for helpin her New York City neighbourhood. Her invention forms the basis for modern CCTV systems used for home security and police work today.

12. Life Raft.

One day in 1882, Maria Beasely looked out at the sea and said, “People should, like, stop dying in huge transportation disasters.” And then she invented life rafts. Beasely also invented a machine for making barrels, and it made her really rich.

The first car heater, which directed air from over the engine to warm the chilly toes of aristocratic 19th-century motorists, was invented by Margaret A. Wilcox in 1893. She also invented a combined clothes and dish washer.

9. Beer.

We don’t know who invented the first formula for beer. But women were the first brewers, servers, and sellers of alcohol in society. Drinking beer at the local bar has origins with all signs pointing to women. Since the dawn of man, women were definitely brewing and selling a lot of beer. For thousands of years, we knew them as “brewsters” or “ale-wives.” This dates far back, 7,000 years ago, to ancient Mesopotamian and Sumerian civilizations. Brewers held the only profession deriving social sanction and divine protection from female goddesses Ninkasi, Siris, and Siduri to be exact. By law, women were the exclusive brewers in Norse society. And again in ancient Finland. In England, woman made beer in their homes by tradition. And the sale of alcohol was a great source of income for many households. Only in the late 18th century did gender-neutral methods for brewing beer come about.

8. Signal Flares.

Communication between ships/planes was once limited to colored flags, lanterns, and screaming things like "Thar she blows!" really loudly. Martha Coston didn't come up with the idea for signal flares all by herself. She found plans in a notebook that belonged to her late husband. The determined widow spent 10 years working with chemists and pyrotechnics experts to make the idea a reality. But she was only named administratrix in the 1859 patent Mr. Coston got credited as the inventor.

7. Disposable Diaper.

Marion Donovan didn't take all the mess out of diaper changing when she patented the waterproof Boater in 1951. But she changed parenting and well, babies forever. The waterproof diaper cover, originally made with a shower curtain, was first sold at Saks Fifth Avenue. Donovan sold the patent to the Keko Corporation for $1 million and then created an entirely disposable model a few years later. Pampers was born in 1961.

6. Windshield Wipers.

Drivers were skeptical when Mary Anderson invented the first manual windshield wipers in 1903. They thought it was safer to drive with rain and snow obscuring the road than to pull a lever to clear it. (Another woman inventor, Charlotte Bridgwood, invented an automatic version with an electric roller in 1917. It didn't take off, either.) But by the time Anderson's patent expired in 1920, windshield wipers were cleaning up. Cadillac was the first to include them in every car model, and other companies soon followed.

5. Computer Programming Language.

Grace Hopper was a leader and innovator of computer programming language. “Programming language” is the basic building block for computer software, allowing humans to tell computers what to do. Grace Hopper worked as a programmer on the first computer, specifically the Harvard Mark 1 in 1944. She led the way in the field of software development concepts, making massive contributions in the shift from primitive to advanced computing technologies. She advocated the idea of a machine-independent programming language. Her development, COBOL, was one of the first high-level computer programming languages. She also popularized the term “computer bug” or “debugging” for fixing computer glitches.

4. Kevlar (Bulletproof Vests).

Stephanie Kwolek was a chemist at DuPont for over 40 years. She developed the synthetic fiber Kevlar in 1965. Kevlar is five times stronger than steel. This super amazing fiber has over 200 useful applications. Today, it’s used as military personal armor like combat helmets, ballistic face masks, and bulletproof vests. Fire fighters, police officers, and SWAT teams use Kevlar everyday. It’s lighter and thinner than equal gear made of traditional materials. It’s also used in music because it has useful acoustic properties. The cables on some suspension bridges are Kevlar. It’s also found within stadium roofs and smartphones. The Georgia Institute of Technology believes i could generate electricity in the future. Kwolek is the only female employee of DuPont awarded the Lavoisier Medal for outstanding technical achievement. In 1995, she became the fourth woman added to the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

3. The Wireless Technology.

Once named “the most beautiful woman in the world,” Hedy Lamarr was a famous and fortunate Hollywood actress. She married the third richest man in Austria, Friedrich Mandl, in 1933. She was also intelligent. While Hedy and Friedrich attended prestigious business meetings, she learned about applied science. Bored of acting, she decided to help in the war effort. During World War II, German submarines began to torpedo passenger ships. Hedy said “I’ve got to invent something that will put a stop to that.” So she developed “spread spectrum” and “frequency hopping” technology. She obtained a patent in 1942. The U.S. Navy adopted the technology in 1962. And the U.S. military used it during a blockade of Cuba. The principles of her work nowserve as the basis for many modern technologies, including GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. She joined the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.

2. Monopoly.

Two designers have the credit for inventing Monopoly Charles Darrow and Elizabeth Magie. At the time, Magie was a writer, comedian, actress, and an engineer. Monopoly was at first used for educational purposes, a way to show the economic consequences and ill effects of land monopolies and prove the value of an economy that rewards wealth creation. In the beginning, the game was also used to promote women’s rights. The game’s original title was “The Landlord’s Game.” It was first patented in 1904, but Monopoly existed as early as 1902. It was one of the first board games to use a “continuous path,” a board designed without well-defined start and end spaces. The game soon spread by word of mouth. And professors used it on university campuses as a teaching tool. By 1933, Monopoly was near full evolution and looked much like the Monopoly we know and love today.

1. Dishwasher.

Josephine Cochran was wealthy and entertained at home often. But after-party clean up was a mess. Servants had an enormous load of dishes to do. In 1850, Joel Houghton designed a hand-cranked dishwasher. L. A. Alexander improved it with a gear mechanism. But both devices sucked. When Josephine’s husband William died, she became motivated to finish her design. She wanted to develop a dish washing machine that actually got the job done. Josephine designed her dishwasher in a shed behind her house with an assisting mechanic. She designed separate compartments for plates, cups, and saucers. And her design was the first to use water pressure. Josephine patented the “First Practical Dish Washing Machine” in 1886. Later, she won first prize for “best mechanical construction, durability and adaption.” By word of mouth, she started getting orders from restaurants and hotels. A factory opened 10 years after her first patent.

Nairaland General › Some Brilliant Things Invented By Women That Really Changed The World. by Explorers(op):
What would the world be without GPS or WiFi? Without some of the women on this list, the world could be a more dangerous place. Less safe, or Less interesting. Your eye-glasses (if you wear glasses) could have been blurry, less clear than they are now. Movies wouldn’t look the same. Between 1790 and 1984, only 1.5% of the patents created came from women. Today, that number has jumped to 20%. In a world filled with men, these are the inventions which stand out the most. They’re not things you would associate with women. Inventions are fascinating. They come about after many years, decades, or centuries of evolution. For instance, Anna Connelly was a woman inventor. She invented a fire escape. But it was nowhere near the external-staircase fire escapes we use today. Around then, many peopleinvented fire escapes which actually look like our modern day ones. But the women on this list made remarkable contributions to the world of technology. And their lives outside of science were often just as remarkable. Not only were they expert scientists, they were pioneers; they first of their kind. More times than not, they were immediately recognized for their contributions to the world. Sometimes they had to fight. Without these inventions, the world would have been different from what it is now.

13. World Records For Kissing.

Currently, the world record for longest kiss belongs to Thailand’s Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat. They made history in 2013 by kissing for 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 secondsat a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Event. They broke the former record, held by Andrea Sarti and Anna Chen, in convincing fashion. Back in 2004, Sarti and Chen kissed for 31 hours and 18 minutes. The two only stopped because they nearly passed out Chen had to lie down while Sarti actually ended up requiring oxygen. Their story had a happy ending, though, as Sarti used the $12,700 prize money to marry Ms. Chen Even among non-record holders, the amount of kissing the average person does is amazing. Studies have shown that the average person kisses for two total weeks throughout their lives. Most people burn around 1,560 calories for every hour of kissing, meaning the average person loses 30,240 calories over a lifetime simply by locking lips. Of course, this all depends on what type of kiss you engage in. A quick smooch isn’t going to do much of anything, after all. But if you work hard enough that you find yourself out of breath, you’re definitely burning some fat. It’s not as effective as a jog or a swim but it’s definitely a lot more fun.

12. The Science Of Kissing.

The study of kissing is known as philematology. Those who study it tend to not only focus on the biology of kissing and the hormones involved, but also why we kiss. Many people say that the first kiss makes a big first impression, but scientists believe it can go beyond that. They believe that kissing can provide sensory clues such as taste, sound, and smell that encourage additional kissing to occur. But if the kiss is no good, it might clue the other person in to the benefits of running away. Studies have shown that 59 percent of men and 66 percent of women have becomes less attracted to a person after kissing them for the first time.Another study of more than 1,000 college students revealed that women tend to be more into kissing than men, and that they’re far more likely to insist on kissing before the clothes start flying off. Science also explains why kissing feels so good physically. As it turns out, ourlips are highly sensitiveand more tightly packed with nerve endings than the majority of our body parts.
