A video showing some residents of Oyo State chanting in support of the All Progressives Congress after receiving sachets of Semovita at an outreach event has sparked reactions online.

The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, showed residents holding 1kg sachets of semovita while declaring support for APC 2027.

In the video, some of the residents were heard chanting, “Jagaban 2027.”

The clip has since generated reactions on X, with users criticising the development and expressing concerns over poverty and political influence.

A user identified on X as #SemiNigerian wrote, “They just sold themselves for less than 4,000 naira. My God.”

Another user, #Omo_Barogun, said, “You no fit understand this country. May God heal us. Weaponizing poverty is the only method our politicians have at their disposal.”

Reacting to the video, #Byrdbenson911 wrote, “Blame it on poverty. And the person giving that insult knows about it. And he will continue to keep them there in their poverty.”

Gunmen Invade Ondo Community, Injure Residents, Abduct Pastor's 9-Year-Old Son

Gunmen have invaded Igbosi Community in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, injuring several residents and abducting a nine-year-old boy during a violent overnight attack that threw the community into panic.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday when the assailants stormed the community, shooting sporadically and attacking residents as they carried out their operation.

SaharaReporters gathered that the gunmen invaded the area at about 1:00 a.m., causing fear among villagers who fled into nearby bushes and surrounding areas to escape being caught in the assault.

Several residents reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries while attempting to flee the attack.

The attackers were also said to have vandalised buildings and destroyed property before escaping from the community.

The abducted victim was identified as Master Olaosebikan Victor, the nine-year-old son of a popular pastor in the community.

Confirming the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday, the Ondo State Police Command said it had launched an intensive manhunt for the kidnappers responsible for the abduction.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the incident was formally reported to the police in the early hours of Friday.

"The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an intensive manhunt for suspected kidnappers who abducted a nine-year-old boy during a violent attack on residents of Ugbosi Quarters, Idogun Ido-Ani, in Ose Local Government Area of the state,” he said.

"The incident was reported in the early hours of Friday, 5th June 2026, at about 2:30 a.m. by Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac and Mr. Joel Owalekan, both residents of Ugbosi Quarters, Idogun.

"According to their reports, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the same day, a group of armed men invaded the community, firing gunshots sporadically and causing panic among residents," he added.

Jimoh explained that during the attack, the gunmen forcefully entered the residence of Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac.

"During the attack, the assailants reportedly forced their way into the residence of Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac. In a desperate attempt to save his life, he escaped into the surrounding bush, leaving behind his nine-year-old son, Master Olaosebikan Victor, who was subsequently abducted by the armed men,” he said.

"Mr. Joel Owalekan also reported that the same group of assailants unlawfully damaged his residence while attempting to gain entry. He similarly escaped the attack by fleeing to safety, thereby avoiding possible harm."


The police spokesperson said security operatives immediately swung into action after receiving the distress report.

"Upon receipt of the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer and his men, in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, immediately mobilised to the scene and launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation,” he said.

"Security operatives combed the surrounding forests and likely escape routes in a bid to rescue the abducted child and apprehend the perpetrators.

"Investigations have commenced while relevant exhibits have been recovered and documented to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and track down those responsible."

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed all tactical units and intelligence teams within the command to intensify efforts toward securing the victim's release and arresting the perpetrators.

The police further assured residents that all available resources were being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted child.

"The Command assures residents that every available resource is being deployed to secure the safe rescue of the abducted child. Members of the public are urged to remain calm, vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

"Anyone with credible and actionable information relating to the abducted child or the suspects is encouraged to report promptly to the nearest police station or other security
