Politics / What Is The Fuss About Bichi’s Son Appearing In A Picture With Tinubu? by EzeChudy: 2:14pm On Mar 31, 2023
Few days ago, political propagandists including one Jackson Ude published an old picture of Yusuf BICHI’s son with the President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The picture which was circulated on social media platforms few hours after the revered Secret Police raised alarm about attempt by subversive elements to scuttle democracy, was erroneously intended to suggest that the intelligence had political undertone or smacks of partisanship.

Though Ude and his co-travelers saw Abba Bichi’s other numerous pictures with prominent Nigerians including His Royal Highness, the Ooni of Ife, Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State, The Emir of Kano and revered Islamic Clerics among others, they shamefully harvested the picture that would please their pay master, to spin their usual propaganda. In case Ude and co have forgotten, Abba, who is in his early 20s is a professional footballer who represented the country in Brazil 2019 U-17 World Cup. Abba, who qualifies as a celebrity, has the opportunity of meeting prominent Nigerians and also has the right to determine his political leaning as an adult.

In Nigeria, many top political gladiators have, at one time or the other experienced a situation where their children, father or siblings belonged to different political persuasions. For instance, Obasanjo’s daughter, Iyabo criticized her father in an open letter and identified with a different political block. Bukola Saraki abandoned his father and charted his political cause. The same Saraki and his sister, Gbemisola are today in different political parties. A retired judge recently fielded two of his children in both APC and PDP.

Nigerians know that one of the most professional DGs that the Secret Police has ever had is BICHI. Apart from his calm demeanor, BICHI has endeared himself to Nigerians by keeping it clean and professional. UDE and co celebrated him when he quizzed Fani-Kayode for weeks. Today they attempt to vilify him because their man was not declared winner of the poll by INEC. Nigerians must be patriotic enough to sacrifice selfish interest for the overall good of the nation.

Politics / DSS STATEMENT: Why Undemocratic Elements Are Paranoid by EzeChudy: 1:14pm On Mar 31, 2023
Recently, the DSS in a bid to preserve democratic ethos in the country, issued a statement alerting well meaning Nigerians of perceived grand plans by subversive elements to truncate democracy. The Secret Olokpa claimed that some aggrieved politicians, unfavorably disposed to the outcome of the 25th February poll, are clandestinely contriving to truncate democracy by all means possible.

Sadly, certain opinion molders that had in the past celebrated the secret police for being the most effective and professional intelligence organization in the country, have made a U-turn because of partisanship. People that publicly said the DSS was the reason why we are still one today, now claim that the revered Service had compromised.

For instance, one Jackson Ude, a strong supporter of the People’s Democratic Party and his cohorts that ordinarily should understand the law regarding change in leadership, have tweeted to hoodwink gullible followers that the process had been compromised. They have falsely vilified an intelligence Service for attempting to awaken the consciousness of Nigerians to a heinous plot that could destabilize the nation.

Now the question is, should we return to military rule or create an environment for unconstitutional government (interim government) which is unknown to law? Or the DSS should not perform its duty anymore? Who constitutes the interim? Same politicians that are aggrieved or the ones that are celebrating?

The solution to electoral discontent is the judiciary. And parties involved appear to have exploited the option. What did the DSS do that is causing the wahala? Hint that subversive elements are attempting to truncate democracy? What is their role? Apart from subversion, the DSS is saddled with responsibility of investigating and frustrating threats relating to sabotage, terrorism and insurgency amongst others.

Nobody wants violence or a repeat of probably a more violently #ENDSARS protest. INEC has announced a winner. Aggrieved politicians should explore lawful means to seek redress. Nothing more, nothing less. The DSS must not be cajoled into abandoning its constitutional responsibilities. Vintage photo shoots by adults, old enough to take personal decisions should not be exploited to blackmail a performing agency. Only the court can rule.

Nigerians must be weary of war mongers that have japa papers ready. The law should take its cause. Only the LAW.

The earlier news by Sahara Reporters was suspicious especially when issues of extra-judicial killings were raised without facts to back it up.
It goes a long way to show how unreliable the outlet has become after its owner Sowore ventured into politics.
Investigative journalism would have revealed to Sahara Reporters that the information was unfounded and was created to settle personal scores among colleagues.

The involvement of traditional rulers and local chiefs, as well as their cooperation in the fight against terror and criminality should be paramount to every administrator.
It is expected that government and security agencies should carry them along in combating these vices and where they are culpable, the full wrath of the law should be applied to serve as deterrence to others.
Politics / Re: Northern Elders Forum Vs President Buhari by EzeChudy: 12:53pm On Jun 20, 2020
The problem of Nigeria cannot be attributed only to the prevailing security challenges in the North alone.

What happened to the armed Robbery, ritual killings and kidnapping in the south, like it is another entity outside Nigeria?

You cannot just wake up overnight to start apportioning blames. Nigeria's security challenges are as old as its existence and they became more sophisticated as past successive govts failed to address them.

In as much as I expect govt. To take responsibility, I will also expect members of the NEF and other concerned Nigerians to advance measures they think will help to address this concern instead of just criticising govt.

The NEF are part of the Northern community who should have information on those involved in breaching peace because of their access to the communities.

I have never heard that information was given to security agencies on criminals or their hideouts and it was neglected.
We need to claim ownership of this country and show patriotism by partnering with govt. to eradicate these challenges rather than apportioning blames.

"Plot By Ikuku and Father to Take-Over Abia Govt Through Backdoor ‘ll be Resisted" - Ikonne

By: Emeh James Anyalekwa, Ogochukwu Isioma, Wisdom Nwedene

UMUAHIA - Some stakeholders have continued to react to the alleged rift between the Abia State House of Assembly and the executive led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

There's been media reports that Speaker of the Abia Assembly, Chinedum Orji (Ikuku), and father, T. A. Orji, are warming up to “hijack” the state government, ahead of 2023 guber in the state, which Ikuku is widely believed to be keenly interested.

Adding her voice to Abians who have condemned the said move, Lady Shirley Ikonne, on Friday declared that such ‘sinister’ move by the duo, would be strongly resisted by the people of Abia.

Igbere TV reports that Ikonne is daughter of Eze Isaac Ikonne (Enyi 1 of Aba), paramount ruler of Ngwa, hometown of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

She lamented what she described as witch-hunting on the part of the Speaker, saying that the State Assembly is out to frustrate the executive.

Speaking with Igbere TV, Lady Ikonne decried the number of ministries being probed by the State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Chinedum Orji as Speaker.

Igbere TV gathered that the Abia State Assembly had set up several committees to probe various ministries and agencies under the Ikpeazu led administration.

Just few days ago, the State Assembly summoned the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, in what many alleged is targeted at the state governor.

Ikonne said: “Within few days of his inauguration, Ikuku has practically taken over the running of Abia State government and indirectly instituted probe of the Ikpeazu led administration.

“Over 10 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, are being probed by various committees set up by the Ikuku led State Assembly.”

Speaking further, Lady Ikonne said the Speaker had no moral justification to probe the current administration, over what he (Orji) could not do when he held sway of government.

“What moral justification does he have to probe the present government over things he and his father couldn't do when they were in the helm of affairs?.

“Ikuku was the defacto governor of Abia State between 2011 and 2015 during which civil servants in the state were owed over 12 months salary.

“Talking about environmental decay, his father's administration witnessed worse. Abia State was in the most sorry state in terms of environmental decay”, she added.

Ikonne alleged that the move by the Speaker is aimed towards impeaching the Governor, and assuming the affairs of the state.

“The Ukwa Ngwa see Ikuku’s present undue meddlesomeness in the running of the state, a plot to create unnecessary tension between the Ikpeazu led executive and the legislature, in order to find excuse to impeach the governor on trumped up charges.”

She, however, insisted that such move would be strongly resisted by the people of Abia, particularly those of Ukwa/Ngwa extraction.

On his part, Chief Nkem Nwosu, from Obinwa clan, said he had it on good authority that the Speaker would in the next few weeks and months, move against more appointees of the Abia State government.

He alleged that the move by Ikuku, is to see to the sack of the appointees and influence the appointment of his loyalists.

According to him, “Ikuku wants to sack all Ikpeazu’s loyalists and replace them with his, those who will do his biddings.”

Chief Nwosu added that “the ASEPA General Manager (Victor Apugo), has been penciled as first victim of the legislative onslaught.”

When Igbere TV contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Chief (Sir) Jude Ndukwe, he denied the allegation, describing it as "baseless".

"How can the person say that Ikuku wants to hijack Abia State government through the back door? Are we in military regime? ".

" So my brother, we are not in military regime and I can't react to such allegation," he told our correspondent on telephone, declined to make comment.

Igbere TV will continue to keep a close eye on the development and bring you updates as events unfold.

Stay with Igbere TV, Africa's number one community TV.

Politics / Prof. Yakubu - INEC Is The Most Improved Public Service In Nigeria by EzeChudy: 8:27pm On Jun 26, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appears not bothered by scathing indictment trailing its conduct of the last general elections. Chairman of the nation’s electoral umpire, Professor Mahmood Yakubu on Wednesday described the Commission under his leadership as the most improved public agency in Nigeria. He gave the self-appraisal at the review of the 2019 election conduct with the second batch of about 387 Election Officers (EOs) from the Southern states of the country. He declared that INEC has improved tremendously in its performance with each successive elections conducted in the country since 1999.

He said: “If you look at what happened to our elections since 1999, you will know that INEC is the most improve public service in Nigeria. We have offices at the grassroots, but we can do more.” He appealed to the Electoral Officers to feel free to ventilate their views and share their observations as he noted that the summit was meant to improve on its performance in last general elections. “Feel free to make the observations and necessary suggestions. It is an opportunity to make our elections better.

“Every organisation should be interested in the successive plan. The commission will not lose experience hands soon. We try to build the capacity of our EOs by giving them the needed exposure. We involved the EOs in foreign elections observation including various trips to Kenya, Liberia America. “It helps me to assess the EOs and I’ve not been disappointed with the quality of our EOs. You do more than just election day activity. We started in 2018 with the Continuous Voters’ Registration and about 14.2 million registered voters were added.”

In his remarks, National Commissioner and Chairman, Planning, Monitoring & Strategy Committee, INEC, Dr Mustapha Lecky, said the interactive session was organised to take recommendations from the Electoral Officers because of the critical roles they play in the electoral process.
Yesterday session with the Electoral Officers from the Southern States was the second batch of the interactive forum as INEC had a similar summit with 387 Electoral Officers from the 19 Northern states on Monday.

Education / Teachers Sacked By Terrorist In North-east Back To Classrooms – TRCN by EzeChudy: 7:09pm On Apr 30, 2019
The Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Segun Ajiboye has disclosed that some of the school teachers who were sacked by terrorists in the north-eastern part of the country are back to classroom. He said that the Council had commenced the process of bringing back to the classrooms, teachers who have deserted the northeast zone due to terrorism attacks.

Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, he said that the plan was to re-motivate and change the psyche of the traumatised teachers to return to school. According to him, some of the teachers lost their certificates to terrorism but have been restored by the intervention of the Council.“Actually, it is disheartening. We are affected, we can’t pretend. We have lost so many teachers to insecurity especially in the northeast. It created trauma. Pupils left the schools. They don’t want to come. “The teachers themselves left because of what has happened to their colleagues. What we are doing is to bring back our teachers especially in the northeast. A lot of interventions are going on to re-motivate the teachers and change their psyche. “So many of them left the teaching profession they don’t want to come back but now sanity is returning and our teachers are coming back. Some of them lost their certificates to insurgency”, he said.

On the deadline to register as professional teacher, Ajiboye disclosed that full enforcement against unregistered and unlicensed teachers would begin in January 2020, adding that any teacher not registered by the Council by December 31, 2019 will not be allowed to practice anymore in Nigeria. He said letter of reminder was being written to Commissioners of Education and the Education Secretary in Federal Capital Territory on the need to ensure that practising teachers in their states get valid license before the deadline.
