Politics / Alleged Threat To Kill INEC Workers: Wike Must Submit To Probe – APC by ezigbos: 3:54pm On Dec 20, 2016

Rivers State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Davies Ikanya has said Governor Nyesom Wike must submit himself to the probe panel inaugurated in Abuja last week by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris.

The panel is probing the governor’s alleged threat to kill officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who might decline to rig the December 10 rerun for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates, after collecting bribes from him.The APC chairman called for the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Aniedi Ikoiwak, for allegedly colluding with Wike and PDP to rig the legislative rerun in the three senatorial districts.

Ikanya, who spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, noted that if PDP had not rigged in the 23 local governments, APC candidates would have won the rerun.

Wike, a lawyer, was allegedly caught on audio tape, saying: “Tell the electoral officers in Etche and Khana local government areas to return my money or I will kill them. I will make sure that they will not leave Rivers State. I understand that both of them are from Plateau State. I will kill them, if they do not return my money.”

The governor held a victory thanksgiving mass of PDP at Our Lady Chaplaincy of the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA) in Port Harcourt, for a “successful” rerun.

He said the government and residents would not be party to a police “phoney” probe panel.

Wike said the police could not deliberately kill Rivers residents and investigate the same matter.

The governor also said “the phoney probe” of the rerun had a predetermined goal, which he alleged would be to indict PDP members and prepare their politically-motivated prosecution.

Ikanya said: “With this latest revelation (through the rigging audio tape), we have been vindicated that Wike is the most bloodthirsty governor in Nigeria. If not checked, he will surely derail our democracy. Who knows how many Rivers State people Wike and his PDP hoodlums would have killed, if not for the police and other security agencies?

“Wike must submit himself to the police probe panel to assist the police to unearth and end the killings in Rivers State. Wike has the habit of setting up funny probe panels. He should not be afraid to submit himself to a probe panel that will assist to restore the sanctity of lives in our dear state, unless he is indirectly accepting the fact that he has a hand in most of the political killings in Rivers State.

“Having watched the outbursts of Wike before, during and after the December 10 rerun, we have come to the conclusion that Wike is nothing but a comical tyrant and blackmailer who needs to be reined in before he derails our hard-won renascent democracy.

“Wike has not ceased to accuse the Army, Department of State Services (DSS), police, INEC and APC leadership of collaborating to cause havoc during the elections, while he caused the killings, snatching of electoral materials and fake announcement of induced INEC results.

“If APC was accused of working with the police to force INEC to rig the rerun, why was a police officer, DSP Mohammed Alkali, brutally beheaded with his orderly, on the same spot where PDP hoodlums killed other security agents at Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government of Rivers State? Why are PDP candidates being declared as winners in most of the results released by INEC?

“Today, under Wike’s watch, Rivers State has degenerated into a miasma, where lives have become solitary, nasty, brutish and short and the sanctity of the human lives is not paid the attention it ought to get, under the purposeless PDP-led government.”

“We wish to counsel the organisations that are collecting money from Wike to give him awards for a non-existing achievement, to rather give the Rivers governor an award as the most brutal and bloodied governor in Nigeria; for turning Rivers State into Rivers of blood, as that will be better understood by the international community than celebrating a fellow who has brought nothing but shame to Rivers State and its people.”
The Rivers APC chairman also insisted that INEC and its officials in Rivers State performed below expectations during the rerun.

He said: “With the revelation of the unholy partnership between Wike and Ikoiwak to deny a large chunk of the Rivers electorate a voice during the rerun elections, we hereby demand the immediate redeployment of this enemy of democracy. Ikoiwak had the audacity to announce PDP’s George Sekibo as a Senator (Rivers East), without adding votes from three LGAs of Etche, Emohua and Ikwerre, which would have made APC’s Chief Andrew Uchendu the winner.

“We wish to ask Sekibo, Osinakachukwu Ideozu (of Rivers West Senatorial District) and their likes in the PDP not to celebrate their fake victories. We will not allow killers of our people to lead us, but we will use every constitutional means at our disposal to retrieve the mandate given to our candidates by the voters.”

Ikanya hailed the unusual courage displayed by the Ogoni, who he said did not only vote overwhelmingly for APC’s candidates but also defended their votes.

This, he said, led to the emergence of Senator Magnus Abe as winner of Rivers Southeast senatorial district, among other APC winners.

Business / Naira Falls To 490 As Shorage Of Dollar Continues by ezigbos: 3:48pm On Dec 20, 2016

the naira tumbled against the United States dollar to 490 on Monday from 487 on Friday, as acute shortage of the greenback continued to batter the economy and the country’s foreign exchange markets.

Before falling to 487 on Friday, the local currency had consecutively closed flat at 485 for four days last week.
The severe shortage of the dollar has put the naira under persistent pressure at both the official and parallel forex markets.
The global crash in the prices of crude oil, Nigeria’s main forex earner, has brought untold hardships to Nigerians.
Economic and financial experts said unless the lingering dollar supply problem was abated, the volatility in the exchange rate and the consequent economic challenges might be endless.
“The challenge with the forex market is still the supply issue; price (exchange rate) is determined by the interplay of demand and supply,” a currency analyst at Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Ezun, had said.
According to the Managing Director, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, the Federal Government needs to access an emergency lifeline of about $10bn from the International Monetary Fund to stabilise the exchange rate and restore investor confidence to the financial markets.
Economic and financial experts expect the naira to weaken further against the dollar as the Christmas holiday begins this week.
They also argued that the crackdown on the parallel market forex traders and the persistent scarcity of the greenback would make further weakening of the local currency inevitable.
The naira had, however, consistently closed around 305.5 a dollar at the official window since August.
A few weeks ago, the naira closed flat at 470 against the greenback over a period of over a week.
The naira had plunged to 470, down from 455 on the back of a fresh dollar shortage at the official and parallel forex markets.
Travelex and First Bank of Nigeria Limited commenced the sale of forex to Bureau De Change operators about two months ago after getting the Central Bank of Nigeria’s approval.
Some forex traders, however, said the scheme had failed to ease the biting dollar shortage in the country.
“What we get from Travelex is not sufficient,” one trader said, referring to the demand in the market.
The President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said the sale of dollars to the BDC operators had yet to cut across the country.
This, he said, was partly responsible for the grueling dollar scarcity.
“There are still logistics problems in selling forex to all the BDC operators; this is what is causing this relative scarcity,” he said.
The CBN had asked the International Money Transfer Operators to sell dollars directly to the BDC operators to boost liquidity and narrow the gulf between the parallel and official market rates.
Dollar shortages have caused many companies to halt operations and lay off workers, compounding an economic crisis exacerbated by the fall in global prices of oil, which accounts for over 70 per cent of Nigeria’s budget revenue.
The CBN has struggled to support the naira as the country’s external reserves continue to fall.

Education / Stop Harassing Our Vice Chancellor, OAU Tells EFCC by ezigbos: 6:10pm On Dec 17, 2016

The Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to stop harassing the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Anthony Elujoba, over the payment of allowances to the staff of the institution.

According to a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the Senate of the institution frowned at the invitation and questioning of the VC by the EFCC.
The governing body of the OAU said the VC did no wrong by paying the allowances to workers of the university.

They said the payment of the allowances was approved by the Governing Council of the OAU since May 2013 adding that Elujoba just implemented the decision of the council.

The senate said the vice chancellor’s decision to pay the allowances was what prevented another round of breakdown of law and order in the university.

The statement read, “The Senate, Obafemi Awolowo University met today, Friday,16th December, 2016 to review and discuss the above issue among other things relating to the security, peace and order on the university campus and resolved as follows:

“That the three hundred thousand Naira (N300,000) to the senior and one hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N150,000) to junior staff became necessary in pursuit of the general powers and mandate of the Acting Vice-Chancellor as the Chief Security Officer on the campus to maintain peace, law and order and to prevent loss of lives and property. Moreso, this similar allowance had been paid to staff in other universities under different names and titles.

“That the payment of the said furniture allowance was statutorily approved by the Governing Council, Obafemi Awolowo University, at its meeting of 9th and 10th May, 2013 without provision for any payment pro rata.

“That by the appointment of the Acting Vice-Chancellor through a letter reference no. FEM/HE/CH/3C/II/403 by the Government, “the Acting Vice-Chancellor is entitled to the terms and conditions of this appointment including remuneration and fringe benefits as approved by government for Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria”, including the said furniture allowance. Hence, the payment was perfectly in order.

“In the light of the foregoing, the invitation already made was considered misplaced, embarrassing and it was patently a harassment to the senate and the university community. This should be stopped henceforth.”

The EFCC had on Monday summoned the VC for interrogation on the payment of the allowances which is over N1bn.

But the Academic Staff Union of Universities; the Senior Staff Union of Universities; the Non-Academic Staff Union and the National Association of Academic Technologists as well as the students’ union followed the vice chancellor to the anti-graft agency’s office in Ibadan where they staged a protest against his invitation.

Some of them said the agency had refused to probe the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bamitale Omole, who they wrote 13 petitions against based on alleged corruption.

Politics / Buhari Hosts ECOWAS Leaders In Abuja, Calls For Review Of Treaty by ezigbos: 6:00pm On Dec 17, 2016

President Muhammadu Buhari has stressed the need to review the ECOWAS Treaty in order to make the regional organisation more responsive to new national, regional and global challenges.

The president made the call at the opening of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Authority and Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, held in Abuja on Saturday. He also called for the speedy conclusion of the reforms of all ECOWAS institutions to put ECOWAS on a much stronger footing and to prepare member nations for the challenges of such Institutional reforms.

President Buhari also stressed the need to make conscious efforts to improve on governance and accountability at all levels.

“We also need to make conscious efforts to improve on Governance and accountability at all levels.

“This calls for the speedy conclusion of the reforms of all ECOWAS institutions to put ECOWAS on a much stronger footing and prepare us for the challenges of such Institutional reforms.

“To this end, we should ensure that priority is given to the implementation of development programmes, while the ECOWAS Parliament should be entrusted with more functions.

“In addition, the cost of governance must be reduced across all ECOWAS Institutions while resources should be devoted to programmes and projects that will have direct bearing on the lives of ordinary citizenry and create jobs fast enough to absorb our teeming youth population.

“In this regard, it is necessary that measures be taken to review the ECOWAS Treaty in order to make ECOWAS responsive to new national, regional and global challenges.

On economic integration, Buhari observed that the modest achievements in regional integration were being challenged by globalisation.

According to him, most member countries continue to record low volume of trade, occasioned by declining level of economic activities, caused by the sharp fall in commodity prices.

He said: “While oil prices fell by an astounding 57 percent between June 2014 and January 2015, other commodity prices have also weakened sharply thereby putting pressure on the current account and fiscal balances of our countries.

“This ugly situation demands that we diversify our respective economies from commodities into other sectors such as banking, construction and telecommunications and most importantly agro–processing, manufacturing and services.

“As we adjust to a more challenging globalised environment, stronger efforts are required to increase domestic revenue mobilisation in our countries and Community Institutions.”

He said that Member States must diversify their economies away from trade in commodities towards developing robust infrastructure that would support manufacturing and industrialisation.

Buhari, therefore, urged the Community to invest more in infrastructure and human resources so as to unleash the potentials that exist in our respective economies and in our peoples.

The 15 member states of the ECOWAS are currently attending the summit with The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso being represented by their foreign ministers, while Cape Verde is being represented by Ambassador of Senegal to Nigeria.

Politics / Actress Ini Edo Opens Up About How God Saved Her From Attending The Church That by ezigbos: 4:41pm On Dec 12, 2016

Nigerians are currently mourning the tragic incident which took place in Uyo resulting in the death of over 200 people after a church venue collapsed during a thanksgiving service.

Nollywood Star Ini Edo has now revealed that she was scheduled to attend the thanksgiving service at Reigners Bible Church and was on her way when the tragedy occurred.2 days ago,I was very bitter about the unreliable nature of some of our airlines cancelling flights without prior notice thereby hindering my plans to attend a church service ceremony held in uyo. Now out of determination, I took a flight to calabar with the hope of being in uyo just in time for the service since the journey between calabar and uyo was just about an hour. The journey ended up taking over 7hrs because of an unexplainable traffic. No accident, good road no hitches just a headlock traffic. Whilst in the car, I started wondering why all my efforts to be at the service was being thwarted… then I got a call, that the entire church building had collapsed during the course of the service …. Once again, God had saved me..

My heart goes out to the families of the departed..may the good Lord grant them the heart to bear the loss.

Everyday we see is a blessing..it’s not because we are special or better..It’s the exceeding Grace of our Lord Jesus. I am so humbled and grateful to God for preserving me… Happy thanksgiving…..

Politics / SAD: How Aide Sacrificed His Life To Save Governor Emmanuel by ezigbos: 4:32pm On Dec 12, 2016

An aide to Udom Emmanuel lost his life in the process of saving the Akwa Ibom governor from the collapsed church building in Uyo.
At least 27 persons lost their lives, while others sustained injuries when the roof and the iron beams in the building housing Reigners Bible Church, Uyo, collapsed on Saturday during a church ceremony.

The church pastor, Akan Weeks, was to be ‘enthroned’ as a bishop in the ill-fated ceremony.Ubong Mboho, an evangelist, who was inside the collapsed building told newsmen, Sunday, that he witnessed the governor’s aide sacrifice his life to save the governor.

“He (the governor’s aide) was standing close to the governor. I saw him push the governor away from danger when the building started falling,” said Mr. Mboho whose father, Elijah Mboho, an influential archbishop in Akwa Ibom, was scheduled to perform the ‘enthronement’.

Unfortunately, the governor’s aide, who was later identified as Ernest Idem, couldn’t get out alive; he was hit by the iron beams and he died instantly, Mr. Mboho said.

Two other persons who spoke separately with reporters corroborated Mr. Mboho’s story on how Mr. Idem died.

The late Mr. Idem, from Ibesikpo-Asutan Local Government Area, was said to have worked with the Zenith Bank before he joined the protocol unit of the state government when Mr. Emmanuel became the governor.

Mr. Mboho said he was making effort to save his own father – the archbishop – when the incident occurred.

He said the archbishop and his wife were unhurt, but that some persons within his entourage sustained injuries.

The 40 years old Mr. Mboho pulled off his shirt and got involved in the rescue operation as soon as his father was taken away to a safe location, within the church premises.

“My focus was how I could save those who were still alive,” he said.

One of the persons Mr. Mboho said he helped rescue was Emmanuel Ekpenyong, the Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly.

“The iron pillar had fallen on his leg. I had to rush to our bus for hydraulic jack which I used in lifting the iron (beam) before we could pull his leg out.

“He was in great pains and was screaming ‘My leg! My leg! My leg!’ while we were making effort to rescue him,” said Mr. Mboho.

Mr. Mboho, in the course of the interview with newsmen, refuted the information being spread on the social media that the enthronement later took place at Abak on the same day of the incident.

“That is complete falsehood. There is no way my father or any person for that matter could have gone ahead with the enthronement after such a terrible incident,” he said.

The archbishop has remained downcast because of the incident, he said.

“He has been talking to God since yesterday, asking what could been the cause of this calamity.

“The incident is not about Reigners Bible Church. It is not about Akan Weeks. It is about God’s kingdom.

“Please let the church and everyone come together and support the victims’ families, the church and Akwa Ibom State,” Mr. Mboho said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Murtala Mani, on Sunday confirmed that 27 persons died, while 37 were injured in the church collapse.

A source told newsmen that the church choirmaster and his family were among those who lost their lives.

When reporter visited the church, Sunday afternoon, a large crowd of people gathered outside the church perimeter fence to have a look at the collapsed building.

The church gate remained locked. Some police officers were seen inside the premises.

Cars, said to belong to those who lost their lives in the incident, were seen parked around the church premises.

Politics / How I Was Defrauded Of N918 Million, Atiku’s Wife Tells Court by ezigbos: 5:12pm On Nov 26, 2016

Mrs Aminat Titi Abubakar, wife of former Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday told a Lagos high court sitting in Ikeja of how she was defrauded of N918 million by a former governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Nsikakabasi Akpan Jacobs.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Jacobs, Abdulmalik Ibrahim and Dana Motors on a 15-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraudulent conversion of properties belonging to THA Shipping Maritime Services Ltd.Led by the prosecution counsel, Mr Babatunde Sonoiki, told the court presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye how Akpan allegedly defrauded her of her shares in the company and other proceeds.

She told the court thàt Akpan Jacobs who doubled as the company’s managing director and secretary had allegedly gone to the Corporate Affairs Commission where he altered the share arrangement in his favour.

She alleged Akpan forged a company board resolution re-distributing the shares ownership and alloted 70 per cent to himself , 15 per cent to her and 15 per cent to Holmes.

With the shares re-distribution, Akpan Jacobs was alleged to have fraudulently assumed full ownership of THA Shipping and subsequently sold a property worth N918m belonging to the company to Dana Motor Nigeria Limited.

When asked, she said Akpan told her that he allotted major shares to himself in other to obtain loan from the bank for the company.

Testifying further before the court, Mrs Atiku stated that Akpan Jacobs , a pastor used the proceeds from the sales of the company’s property to contest for the governorship position in Akwa Ibom State.

Mrs Atiku lamented that her investment in the company had gone down the drain and stated that her interest in coming to court is to ensure that justice is done.

“I have never been inside a court before. Not even a police station in all my life. I am here because I want justice. All my investment and even profit are gone. I want this to serve as a deterrent to other fraudsters that they can’t defraud people and not face justice”, she said.

Part of the charge preferred against the defendants by the EFCC stated: “that ýNsikakabasi Akpan Jacobs and Abdulmalik Ibrahim as the Managing Director and Company Secretary on or about the 10th day of August 2008 in Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud stole and converted to your own personal use the sum of N918,000,000.00 being proceeds sale of the property and appurtenances situted at Plot C63 A Amuwo Odofin Commercial. Layout along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos belonging to Tha Shipping and Maritime Service limited entrusted with you as the Managing Director.

ý”Nsikakabasi Akpan Jacobs and Abdulmalik Ibrahimý on or about the 1st day July 2002 in Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud forged a Memorandum and Article of Association of Tha Shipping and Maritme Service Limited dated the 1st day of July 2002 purporting the sgnatures therein to have been signed by Florence Doregos and Fred Holms.”

Justice Ipaye adjourned the matter till December 14 for continuation of hearing.

Politics / Armed Robbers Murder 4-year Old Daughter Of UNIBEN Lecturer by ezigbos: 5:01pm On Nov 26, 2016

The home of a University of Benin lecturer in Benin City, Dr Kingsley Ogbeide was thrown into mourning last Wednesday when unknown gunmen invaded his house, killing his 4-year old daughter, Aisosa.

The incident which happened at house No. 10, Enadeghe Street, Off Ughowo-Lagos Road, Evbuomore quarters, Benin City, threw residents into total disbelief when the unprovoked gunman suddenly opened fire on Aisosa and his brother and sister who were afraid of their lives when the gunmen broke in.
Aisosa had died instantly while her brother and 2-year-old sister sustained varying degrees of bullet injuries. The girl is awaiting surgery to extract the bullets lodged in her jaw though she is nursing the bullet wounds on her head.
After the tragedy, the gunmen went ahead to rob their parents of two laptops, phones, iPad, wristwatches, perfumes and other yet to be known valuables.
Narrating the unfortunate incident, Dr Kingsley Ogbeide, a lecturer in Engineering Department at the University and his wife, Mrs Ogbeide, a civil servant, said the heat in his apartment on Saturday November 4th at about 4pm had prompted him to open one of the slide windows bit only to be welcomed by a flash of touch light followed by a voice.
He said, “We started scampering for safety, raised alarm to nearby neighbours, then the children woke up, we all ran to the lobby, before two minutes they broke the protector and were already inside.
“When they entered they started asking where is the money, where is the gold? I said we don’t have money or gold. Truthfully I was only having N500.00 in my wallet. My wife had no money. We are just civil servants. We told them that there are laptops, though they still took the laptops and phones.
“Being that the lobby door was a bit closed, one of them suddenly shot through the door and the bullet hit one of my daughters, a four and a half year old daughter who died on the spot while the other two children sustained some level of injuries.
“I don’t know why he shot because the door was not locked; even the other robber was now quarrelling with him saying why did you shoot? Look! Now you have killed a girl”. Dr Ogbeide narrated.
Dr Ogbeide however appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to be hasty in creating jobs for the youth as it would reduce various degrees of vices in the society.

Politics / Over 50% Of Youths, Women In Kaduna Involve In Drug Abuse, Agency Says by ezigbos: 4:47pm On Nov 26, 2016

Over fifty per cent of youths and women in Kaduna State are into drug abuse, the State Bureau for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment has said.

The agency described the situation as a menace that was capable of jeopardising their future, if not urgently addressed. In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Isa Baka, said that the alarming rate in the abuse of unconventional substances such as cocaine, codeine, tramadol, marijuana and other narcotic substances by youths and women in the state had contributed immensely to the increase of unemployment, crime and other ills in the society.

He identified poverty, marital problems, lack of parental care, and non-effective public enlightenment as some of the factors responsible for the increasing rate of drug abuse in the society.

Dr. Baka also explained that his office was working in collaboration with the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other individuals and organisations in the war to reduce substance abuse in the state.

“Statistics from some of the institutions that researches were conducted, showed that the prevalent rate was as high as 60 to 70 per cent of students using substances, while in the general group is about 30 to 60 per cent.

“So, you can see that we are talking of a percentage of about 50 and that is very high.

“And as far as substance abuse is concerned, statistics have shown that it is better to prevent than to allow it affect the individual.

“We are planning that we will not only help to eradicate abuse of substances, or cure the victims, but we will also try to rehabilitate them. Rehabilitation is an integral aspect of helping patients from staying away from taking substances. We want to keep people busy so that they will not become the devil’s workshop,” he said.

Involvement Of Teenagers

The Director General of the Agency decried the involvement of teenagers in drug abuse, expressing fears that the involvement would jeopardise their future.

“Now most of those affected are the ones under 10-16 years. And that is a very high population substance abuse. At times, when we are conducting researches, people will hide information because of the legal or moral problem particularly among women. No woman will want to be seen as abusing substances. Today, a young girl will take it as a normal thing. In the past, it was considered culturally wrong for a woman to be on the street, roaming about,” he pointed out.

Dr. Baka further said that the agency would engage other agencies like Prison Service, NDLEA, NAFDAC and NGOs among others to address the growing involvement of young persons in the use of drugs.

“We are going to involve the Ministry of Education, several other organisations to make sure we restore sanity in our society. As far as substance abuse is concerned, we want people selling drugs to have licence and know what they are doing so that they won’t be selling drugs to a set of people who don’t need them,” he added.

Also in receipt of the signal were 143 Infantry Battalion for special forces in Borno State; 144 Battalion in Asa, Abia State; and 146 Battalion in Calabar.

Each of the battalions copied in the signal had soldiers that were part of the 83 missing, PREMIUM TIMES understands.

Mr. Jimoh recently replaced K. Yusuf, a lieutenant colonel who PREMIUM TIMES exclusively identified as the commander of the 145 Task Force Battalion who was among the missing soldiers.

The admission by the army that 46 personnel are missing came exactly five weeks after the soldiers were dislodged from their base in Gashigar, Borno State, by Boko Haram operatives.

The aftermath of the attack was exclusively reported by PREMIUM TIMES, which included how several soldiers drowned in River Yobe and how at least 83 troops went missing with Mr. Yusuf.
The troops were on deployment in Gashigar, which sits on the northernmost edge of Borno State, as part of the ‘Operation Gama Aiki’ aimed at displacing insurgents hibernating around the Nigerian border with Niger and Chad.

The operation was launched in June 2016.
They were manning the Forward Operation Base there when Boko Haram operatives pushed towards them with superior firepower in the evening of October 16, senior military sources familiar with the encounter told PREMIUM TIMES at the time.

After initial resistance, the troops soon abandoned their base and scampered for safety. At dawn on October 17, the leadership of the Nigerian Army was informed that Boko Haram attacked the troops when they jumped into River Yobe, where the sect opened fire and left unknown number of them fatally wounded.

Twenty-two of the fleeing soldiers were rescued by the Nigerien troops and transported to a hospital in Diffa, southern Niger, for treatment, the Army also learnt at the time.
Yet, for several days, the spokesman for the Army, Sani Usman, maintained that the report was false.

But on the same day that he spoke, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in the northeast, Lucky Irabor, a major-general, claimed only 39 soldiers went missing.
The Army also opened a secret inquiry into the attack after some brigade commanders raised questions about the conduct of the soldiers.

For instance, the commanders said it was difficult to explain how utility trucks were used to dispossess soldiers of their armoured vehicles especially when the soldiers said they were alerted in their various positions.
Senior military officials also found it curious that some of the soldiers were rescued by their Nigerien counterparts with their bullets still largely unspent.

“If they actually came under attack while they were fully at alert, then they should have exhausted their ammunition before taking to their heels,” the source said. “At least that much should be clear.”

Politics / Soldiers Take Over Lagos, Many Wounded As Transport Workers Clash by ezigbos: 5:15pm On Nov 23, 2016

Soldiers have reportedly taken over Oshodi, a major metropolis of Lagos following a clash that occurred between rival groups of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the clash occurred between the night of Tuesday, November 22 and the early hours of Wednesday, November 23 at the Bolade area of Oshodi leaving many with various degrees of injury.
Soldiers have been deployed to the Oshodi area of Lagos as factions of NURTW clash
When the battle raged on on Tuesday, a team of anti-riot policemen reportedly dispersed them. However, they were said to have regrouped Wednesday wielding and freely using various dangerous weapons.

One of the factions was said to be loyal to Talo Skibo while the other faction is belongs to be owned by a popular Lagos resident nicknamed Bush.

The hoodlums were further said to have clashed with the soldiers who attempted to resolve the crisis thus causing serious confusion and fear.

It is not known what actually caused the clash, but the soldiers were still in the area at the time of this report.

Politics / President Buhari Has Failed In His Anti-corruption Fight, Falana Declares by ezigbos: 6:55pm On Nov 22, 2016

Popular human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has stated that the much touted anti-corruption fight of President Muhammadu Buhari has been a failure.

Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana says President Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign has been a failure
According to The Authority, Falana made the comment while speaking at the 4th Convocation Lecture of Oduduwa University, in Ile Ife Osun state.

The fiery lawyer also warned President Buhari against the proposed $29.9 billion loan the federal government seeks to borrow from China.

According to Falana, only 50 percent of the loan amount will ever arrive Nigeria, while future generations will be straddled with the responsibility of paying the loan.

Falana advised President Buhari to instead use monies recovered from ex-government officials to attend to economic issues.

His words: “Curiously, the Buhari administration has failed to address capital flight and round tripping by financial institutions, otherwise why has the government been reluctant to ask EFCC to recover and sanction the oil and shipping companies which under declared the crude oil worth billions of dollars shipped from Nigeria, under the Jonathan administration?

“Why has the federal government failed to recover the $20.2 billion withheld from the Federation Account by the NNPC and some oil companies from 1999-2012?

“Why has the federal government not inquired into the allegation that the sum of $25.4 billion was laundered and illegally taken out of Nigeria by a telecommunication company?

“Why has the government failed to recover the looted wealth of the nation which has been traced to financial institutions in the west and the United Arab Emirates?”

“Why has the CBN failed to recover the $7 billion deposit and N600 billion bailout given to the commercial banks in 2006 and 2008 respectively? Instead of intensifying efforts to recover such huge funds among several others, the government is determined to take a loan of $29.6billion”.

Last week, Falana urged President Buhari to release former national security adviser Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) as soon as possible.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 13, Falana said it was time that the president checked human rights abuses under his administration and a good way to start is to release Dasuki who has been in jail for over a year despite court orders for his release.

Politics / I Won’t Join APC, Mimiko Vows by ezigbos: 6:24pm On Nov 21, 2016

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Monday said despite the controversy surrounding who flies the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state governorship election holding on Saturday, he was not contemplating joining the All Progressives Congress.

He said the courtesy he extended to President Muhammadu Buhari when he led party members to a rally in the state on Saturday was done because of his position as the president and had nothing to do with the party he belongs to.Mimiko spoke with State House correspondents shortly after meeting with Buhari for the second time inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja, since the crisis over the PDP candidate started.

He said the purpose of his two meetings with the President was to brief him on the security situation in his state ahead of the elections.

The governor said, “This is my second visit to the Villa since this crisis in our party started. Like I said, as the Chief Security Officer of my state, if there is any credible threat to security, I owe the responsibility to Nigerians to apprise Mr. President of what is going on in the state.

“Mr. President was in my state to campaign for his party. I extended to him the courtesy of receiving him at the airport and seeing him off as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not as APC (member).

“I understand that people have speculated that this means I am going to APC. There is nothing of such. I only extended him normal courtesy that protocols demand.

“As a governor and Chief Security Officer of the state, if the President is visiting, no matter the party he belongs to, it is only appropriate for me to extend the courtesy to him. That was what I did in Akure.

“And I have also come to brief him about the security situation in my state.”

When asked to comment on the ongoing crisis in the PDP, the governor said he was concentrating on the case in court.

Mimiko said once his candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, wins at the court, the state would erupt in joy.

“The whole of Ondo State will erupt in joy and it will be so self-evident,” he said.

Politics / Jibrin Slam Reps Over Purchase Of N3.6 Billion Worth Of Cars by ezigbos: 6:14pm On Nov 21, 2016

The former Chairman of House appropriation committee, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin has criticized the decision of the House of Representatives to purchase exotic cars worth N3.6b, adding that it shows how insensitive the House is to the plight of suffering Nigerians.

The embattled lawmaker who was suspended by the House for 180 days, for accusing the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara of padding the 2016 budget, said he will reject his own car, and called on other Reps to do the same.Jibrin also revealed that the lawmakers do not need cars for their oversight functions as claimed, adding that the agencies they supervise send buses to convey them.
“That it is an outright lie that the cars are needed for oversight as over 80 per cent of oversight activities of the House of Representatives are carried out in Abuja and in almost all instances it is the MDA’s that arrange buses to convey members from the premises of the House to the respective MDA,” he said.

“That such areas that are far away from Abuja, members always use flights to the nearest location while the MDAs arrange vehicles and other logistics to complete the visit. In almost all instances, the MDAs provide accommodation and pay for the tickets and other logistics.

“That even if we assume that the cars are needed, it is unfair to further put additional N4bn into such a wasteful venture while at the same time members pocket about N10m monthly. An amount many members use to sponsor their lavish lifestyles and buy as many exotic cars for their private use,” he stated.

Politics / REVEALED: How I Saved Nigeria’s Economy – CBN Governor by ezigbos: 1:02pm On Nov 19, 2016

Godwin Emefiele, governor of Nigeria’s apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed how he saved the nation’s economy from collapsing.

Mr Emefiele pointed out two policies he implemented which has not only saved the economy from total collapse but also reduce the impact of the current economic recession on Nigerian.
According to him, the first way he achieved that, was to ensure bank recapitalization.

“For instance, prior to recapaitalition, the total number of commercial banks could not match asset base of a single South African bank. But this is not the case anymore as our banks are now robust.” he said.

Secondly, the adoption of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) was targeted at blocking loopholes in the banking sector.

“The same goes for TSA which removed sharp practices in some banks as instances arose where you had banks using government money lodged with them to buy government bonds.

“In other words, government was buying bonds back with their own cash through these banks which basically reaped the system,” Emefiele added.

Mr Emefiele said this while speaking at the All Civil Society National Economic Summit in Abuja, in a message conveyed by his aide, Emmanuel Ukeje.

Politics / Boko Haram Used Chibok Ransom To Buy Powerful Weapons – Military Sources by ezigbos: 2:34pm On Nov 12, 2016

The recent ransom paid to Boko Haram in exchange for the release of some Chibok girls have contributed to the recent upsurge in the killings and disappearances of soldiers engaged in the fight against the insurgents, senior military sources have revealed.
The military men told newsmen that despite denials by the Federal Government, money was paid to the sect to secure the release of the abducted girls.

It was learnt that the insurgents demanded for $50m for the release of the girls but about a quarter of the sum was eventually paid.
It was also learnt that the Federal Government paid the cash in two currencies – the naira and the CFA Francs to the leaders of the sect to facilitate the release of the girls.

But, the highly-ranked military men who are engaged in the war, and who craved anonymity because they were not authorised to speak for the military authorities, attributed the recent upsurge in the activities of the insurgents to the huge ransom paid for the release of the girls.

Prior to the current increase in the attacks by the insurgents, it was learnt that the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, deployed in the North-East, had effectively cut off food and logistics supply to the insurgents.

Some of the sources, who are also commanders at the war front, said that the troops had effectively defeated the Boko Haram members, who were on the run while a good number of them had surrendered and taken to a rehabilitation camp established by the Defence Headquarters in Yola.

In October, 83 soldiers were reported missing days after they came under a Boko Haram attack. Though there have been increasing reports of soldiers either missing or killed since the Chibok girls were released, the military initially denied the report, it later said that only 39 soldiers were missing.

Also, on November 4, seven military men, including Lt.-Col. Muhammad Abu-Ali, were killed on their way to reinforce troops at Mallam Fatori during a Boko Haram attack. Two days later, one soldier was also killed while four others were wounded in the line of duty.

In October, 21 of the over 200 girls abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno State, in April 2014 were released by the group.

However, the Federal Government denied exchanging insurgents for the abducted girls and paying a ransom to the sect.

But the military sources insisted that Boko Haram did not release the girls without getting anything in return and that the Federal Government indeed paid a ransom and released some of the group’s strategists that were detainees.

One of the sources said it was sad that the same government that was initially seen as tough enough to end insurgency in the country failed to negotiate with Boko Haram from a position of strength.

“It is unfortunate that in government’s desperation to secure the release of the Chibok girls, it has put our (soldiers’) lives in danger by yielding to the demands of the group to collect a ransom and secure the release of its commanders.

“It is now obvious that the group has reinforced and bought more weapons to fight us.”

According to another source, left to the military, the ransom and the exchange of Boko Haram members for Chibok girls would not have taken place.

“Funds were given to Boko Haram and now we can all see the result of that action; there have been renewed attacks recently and many of our men have been killed in the process but we will not relent, we will continue to do our best to secure this nation.

“The military had reservations about the arrangement but it was not in our hands; it was a political decision that we had to abide with and it was the DSS that was directly in charge of the operation,” the source added.

Another source, who is also active in the war theatre, said, “They got the Chibok girls and suddenly the Boko Haram that we had beaten and chased out of Sambisa are attacking and killing men of quality.

“It is very obvious that they have used the money they got from the deal to buy equipment and recruit men to carry out their heinous acts.

“The group is still in Mallam Fatori, they have infested the entire area and their strongest point into Chad is Abadam. It is from there that they disperse their men to carry out attacks.

“Another thing you must note is that the towns around the borders are occupied by mercenaries from foreign countries. Where did they get the money to fund that?”

Investigation revealed that Boko Haram members, who were routed out of their dreaded Sambisa enclave by the military, had regrouped at Abadam, and were still holding onto the fringes of Mallam Fatori in the northern part of Borno State.

It was further gathered that the group was engaging the services of mercenaries with their operational base in Abadam in the far north, close to Chad.

The latest incidents contradict President Muhammadu Buhari’s assertion on December 24, 2015 that Nigeria had “technically” won the war against Boko Haram and that the militant group could no longer mount conventional attacks against security forces or population centres.

Following the President’s assertion, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, also said on December 27, 2015 that “we have been vindicated because Boko Haram have been decapitated compared to the past records.”

The sect gained international attention when it kidnapped 219 Chibok schoolgirls on April 14, 2014.

Two years later, on April 10, 2016, the group said it wanted a $50m (N15.7bn) ransom to free the Chibok girls, according to a report by The Sunday Telegraph of London.

The publication said it gathered from sources close to the sect that the demand was made “during secret contacts with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has said he is willing to negotiate for the girls’ freedom.”

The sect’s six-year insurgency has led to the deaths of over 17,000 people, destruction of more than 1,000 schools and displacement of about two million people.

Between May 2015 when President Buhari assumed office and October 2016, the insurgents have carried out over 20 attacks, leading to the deaths of over 2,600 Nigerians.

However, newsmen learnt on Friday that combined forces of the ground troops, the fighter pilots of the Nigerian Air Force and local hunters had been deployed to fight the insurgents around some locations in Gwoza.

When one of our correspondents contacted the Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, he said that the minor setback in the operations should not be taken to mean that the Boko Haram was a formidable force.

He told one of our correspondents on the telephone that the military was determined to defend the territorial integrity of the country and was equipped to do so.

He gave the assurance that Boko Haram would not achieve its objective of acquiring any territory in the country.

He said, “The group is not a force to be reckoned with as far as the military is concerned.

“In spite of the minor setback, it does not in any way mean that the Boko Haram is a force to be reckoned with. We will defend the integrity of Nigeria to the letter, and that is what we are committed to do.”

Faulting the payment of cash to the sect as a ransom for the girls, a United Kingdom-trained criminologist and Chairman of Puma Eye Security Services, Mr. Pedro Ayandokun, said it had to be responsible for the renewed terrorist attacks in the country.

He said, “I was never in support of making any exchange with Boko Haram. That is what is creating the problem. What they have got will not be used to buy rice, but to acquire ammunition.”

Also, the Chief Executive Officer of Security Watch Africa, Patrick Agbamu, said giving cash to the insurgents would encourage them to kidnap more girls.

He said, “The government ought not to give money to the terrorists. It will embolden them to kidnap more girls.”

Despite the insurgents’ recent attacks, Agbamu, however, asked for patience, saying, “Up till today, there are still attacks in Afghanistan and Iran. Insurgency is not easily stopped.”

The President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, also said if the Federal Government gives money to the insurgents, it could empower them to carry out more attacks.

He said at a time when the sect was broke, giving money to them might be all they needed to regain more strength.

He said, “There were insinuations that for the 21 girls released recently by the insurgents, cash was given to the terrorists. Cash is exactly what the terrorists need to be strengthened.”

Likewise, a professor of African History, Peace and Conflict Studies and Director, Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan, Isaac Albert, said government had not been negotiating with Boko Haram from a position of strength.

He said, “We have said for some time now that we have defeated the sect but it is obvious that it is not true.”

No cash involved in Chibok girls’ release

But the Presidency on Friday insisted that the Federal Government did not pay members of the Boko Haram sect to secure freedom for the 21 Chibok girls.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the position of government remains that cash was not involved in the release.

“Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told the country that there was no cash involvement in the release of the 21 Chibok girls. If you have evidence that it was not so, simply produce it,” he said.

However, one of the lawmakers involved in the negotiation which led to the release of the 21 girls, confirmed that a ransom was paid to Boko Haram but said the amount was far less than $50m.

The source, who expressed shock when one of our correspondents put the question to him to confirm the payment, agreed to speak on condition of anonymity.

He said, “I don’t think it is up to that amount. Yes, there was a deal. Something like that (payment of a ransom) happened but it was never near the amount you just mentioned; it is even not up to a quarter of that amount. I can tell you that it was done (paid).

“I can also tell you that the second round of the talk was scuttled because of the disagreement on the next tranche of a ransom. The negotiation for another batch of the girls has hit the brick wall as a result of the failure to agree on an amount (to be paid as a ransom). I am speaking to you on this authoritatively.”

Politics / Recession Has Been Growing For 3 Years – Babatunde Fashola by ezigbos: 10:19am On Nov 12, 2016

Babatunde Fashola, the minister of power, works and housing said on Friday night that the prescription for recession in Nigeria had been in place for more than three years.

Fashola, accompanied by the minister of state in the ministry, Mustapha Shehuri, and its top officials, spoke at a media briefing to commemorate his first year in office.
He noted that when workers were being retrenched and the purchasing power of an average citizen eroded, as had been the case since 2013, these were obviously signs of recession.

He, however, expressed the hope that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was on the road to making Nigerians smile once again.

According to Fashola, electricity generation in Nigeria has improved considerably in the last 12 months, peaking at above 5074MW for the first time in the nation’s 63-year-old electricity history earlier this year.

He said this has created jobs for hitherto idle artisans, small and medium scale entrepreneurs and empowered other businesses.

He noted that the more than 800 containers of imported power generation and distribution components stranded at the ports for between three and eight years, have been released.

He regretted that about 3000MW of electricity was lost to vandalism, adding, however, that the Federal Government was discussing with agitators in order to put an end to the destruction.

Fashola said electricity generation would continue to appreciate as more stations come on stream and contribute to the national grid.

The minister appealed to electricity consumers to be patient with distribution companies over insufficient prepaid meters, noting that the privatization of the sector was only three years old.

He said that the meters would soon be readily available as more companies embark on their production in Nigeria.

Politics / EXCLUSIVE: These Five Governors Will Be Betrayed By Their Deputies (photos) by ezigbos: 10:05am On Nov 12, 2016

With the present political unrest in the country, about five Nigerian governors will have serious issues with their deputies, NAIJ.com can exclusively report.

According to Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, who made this prophecy in an exclusive chat NAIJ.com, the governors of Abia, Ebonyi, Kano, Sokoto and Taraba states will have issues with their deputies before the end of their terms in office.
The Spiritual head of INRI Evangelistic Spiritual Church explained that the governors and their deputies would have series of disagreements based on their political ambitions and they might end up betraying the trust and confidence reposed in them by the state governors.

“They will have issues with their governors based on official duties as well as their respective political ambitions as the political atmosphere of the country will become rather unpredictable by the top shots,” he mooted to our correspondent during the chat.

“Adamawa state governor has to be careful to avoid a rerun in his cabinet, Ikpeazu needs God’s divine intervention and should be wary of court judgment.

“Not all Speakers will finish their terms in office due to impeachment plans here and there,”the man of God added.

The primate also explained that the rerun election scheduled to hold in Rivers state will end in serious fracas as the All Progressives Congress (APC) will want to win the election at all costs.

While also sounding another warning about the insurgency in the country, Primate Ayodele said: “Boko Haram is not over. Our security men should be more careful and more sensitive.

“They are planning a major deadly attack again and our security men have to be on red alert to avert a major tragedy in the country.”

In his warning also, he asked the managing directors of Access and Fidelity banks and their Chairmen to be careful because “they will face some challenges that might amount to a risk of license with the CBN.”

Recall the Primate Ayodele also warned Hillary Clinton ahead of the US presidential elections, tasking her to work on five different states and restrategise otherwise she would lose the election.

He listed Texas, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Ohio as the states where she was supposed to work on. Unfortunately, she lost in four of the states, winning only in New Jersey as Donald Trump, eventual winner recorded an infamous victory in the polls.

Religion / SHOCKING Details Of How TB Joshua’s People Prevented Fire Fighters From Entering by ezigbos: 6:31pm On Nov 11, 2016

The members of the Synagogue Church of All Nations have been accused of contributing to the heavy casualty recorded at the scene of the collapsed church building in 2014.

Giving his testimony before the Lagos High Court in Ikeja, a prosecution witness Musiliu Adebayo said church members prevented fire fighters from entering the site.Adebayo, a retired operational firefighting officer with the Lagos state fire service told the court that four days after the incident, there was still fire at the scene.

Ruling out arson, Adebayo said he took part in the search and rescue operation that recovered over 116 bodies.

Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel Idowu Alakija, the witness said: “On the fourth day at about 0855 hours on Monday the 15th, there was a fire incident within the rubble in the premises and we were able to put it out.”

Adebayo also said, the fire was caused by triangle of combustion.

“That is, there must be three things that can cause fire incident, such as fuel, oxygen and heat,” Adebayo said.

He also said while putting out the fire, his team found clothing that could fuel fire incident, trapped cooking gas cylinders which might have leaked and passed to the rubble.

He also said that there were naked irons there too and he argued that if two irons rub each other, “it could produce heat if not fire.”

The registered trustees of SCOAN, two engineers Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, their companies, Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company and Jandy Trust Limited are being prosecuted by the Lagos state government on a 111-count charges bordering criminal negligence, man slaughter and failure to obtain building permit.

Politics / Wike Sacks His SSA On Protocol by ezigbos: 6:16pm On Nov 11, 2016

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has sacked his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Protocol, Sir Joe Akpa.

Wike, through his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, Friday in Port Harcourt, wished Akpa well in his future endeavours. No reason was given for the sack of the top aide by Wike, a lawyer and former Minister of State for Education, but investigation revealed that Akpa was suddenly relieved of his appointment in view of a minor breach of protocol.

It was also gathered that the Rivers governor, who is a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), capitalised on the breach of protocol to remove the SSA, mainly for fraternising with some leaders of the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, ahead of the December 10 legislative rerun by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Elections in the Niger Delta state had been a battle between the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, a former Rivers governor, backed by APC’s governorship candidate in the state, during last year’s election, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, who is also the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and Wike, ex-Chief of Staff to Amaechi and Director-General of Amaechi Re-election Campaign Organisation in 2011, before the former governor recommended him (Wike) to former President Goodluck Jonathan for ministerial appointment.

Religion / Read What TB Joshua Did After Being Mocked Of False Prophecy by ezigbos: 6:54pm On Nov 10, 2016

Following much backlash from Nigerians over the prophesy by influential Nigerian TV evangelist, TB Joshua that Hillary Clinton would win the US presidential election which later turned out otherwise, Pastor Joshua has reinstated the post on his Facebook page after deleting it yesterday when the backlash became too hot.

The post containing the prediction was “mistakenly removed and has been re-posted as such is not our policy”, according to an email sent to the BBC from the Social Media Department of TBJMinistries on Facebook.“Ten days ago I saw the president of America with a narrow win… What I frankly saw was a woman,” said the post, reiterating comments made by Joshua in an address to his congregation on Sunday.

TB Joshua was widely mocked on social media when people noticed that the post had been removed, though many of his supporters on Facebook said they still considered him a prophet despite calling the election wrong.

Romance / Shame! Man Shares Nude Photos Of His Ex-girlfriend, She Reacts by ezigbos: 7:34pm On Nov 07, 2016

A young woman has reacted after her boyfriend shared her nude photos online. An undergraduate of the Midlands state university, Zimbabwe, is currently regretting her decision for dating a gold dealer (Mukorokoza).

The young lady identified as Andile Muza, was dating Kudakwashe Manyuchi (AKA Kuda), and when they parted ways, he reportedly resorted to blackmail, threatening to leak her nude photos.

The nude photos were eventually leaked on social media, some of which Andile was seen lying on a bed with $100 notes tucked into her panties and scattered on her stomach. According to reports, Kuda had showered her with expensive gifts while they were a couple, and he had also recently bought her a car

When contacted by a reporter from H-Metro, Andile said:

“It all started late last year when I wanted to break up with him, he showed me my nude pictures saying he would expose them if I ended the relationship with him. For a couple of months, I lived in fear and put up with him just for the pictures, he gave me an assurance that he was going to delete them and I trusted him. A few weeks later, he cheated on me and I wanted out of the relationship for good and again he showed me the pictures, I felt used because I couldn’t stand up to him and eventually gave up. I have been dying of shame ever since the pictures leaked, I know I made a right choice to walk out on him and I know people will judge me but soon forget about the pictures and I will still walk with my head up on campus.

“I had no option but to let go of Kuda who had turned so abusive, he would label me with all sort of tag names, treat me like a cheap cloth and insult me over the phone. I still have some of his recorded insults, I could not take it anymore and eventually left him knowing that he was going to leak the pictures like he always said. The pictures were even taken without my concern because I always asked him how he took them but he never told me.”Andile also denied receiving any car from Kuda. She said:

“Kuda never bought me any car, in fact I don’t even have a driver’s licence. He only bought his first car a few months ago. Those are just rumours of people spicing up the story.”

One of Andile’s friends who spoke anonymously said:

The building where Mohammed Abu Ali was killed by Boko Haram terrorists during an operation in the North East.

The gallant soldier and four other soldiers were killed late on Friday, November 4 by Boko Haram insurgents after a fierce battle, a statement by Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman announced.

Ali who has been mourned by many Nigerians including President Buhari, has been described as “a courageous commander does not only give orders, but also joins his men to fight the battle, no matter the risks or the obvious danger.”
He will be laid to rest later today.

However, some Nigerians have taken to social media to attack President Muhammadu Buhari on his nonchalant attitude towards morale of Nigerian soldiers fighting against the insurgents.

Some of these Nigerians have urged President Buhari to do the needful and visit troops fighting in North East. These citizens said such visit could help boost morale of the soldiers.

Politics / Ondo Election: Makarfi Faction Condemns N350 Million Bribery Allegation Against by ezigbos: 6:41pm On Nov 03, 2016

The Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday denounced a petition by a leader of the party in Ondo State claiming that a Court of Appeal judge received N350 million bribe.

The petition by Biyi Poroye, a factional chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, said Jummai Sankey was compromised by Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State to alter the outcome of an election matter before the court.Mr. Poroye belongs to the faction of the party led by a former governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff.

Mr. Mimiko belongs to the Makarfi faction.

The accused judge, Mrs. Sankey, was handling the matter between the two factions, and was to decide, alongside two other judges, which faction had the proper candidate for the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.

The candidate for the Makarfi faction is Eyitayo Jegede, while the Sheriff faction has Jimoh Ibrahim.

Mrs. Sankey later stood down from the case.

Reacting to Mr. Poroye’s petition, the National publicity Secretary of PDP, from Mr. Makarfi’s faction, Dayo Adeyeye, said the petition did not emanate from a recognised group of PDP members.

“The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) seeks to completely dissociate itself from the Petition written by one Mr. Biyi Poroye against the Justice Jummai Sankey led Appeal Panel set up to determine appeals against the Judgment of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court,” he said.

“We find the Petition to be distasteful, offensive, indecent and completely out of keeping with the principles, ideology and ethos of our Party to make such unsubstantiated allegations against members of an institution as important as the Judiciary.

“It is important to stress that neither the Writer of the Petition nor his sponsors are members of our Party. They are a group of people with powerful backers within and outside government who are determined to bend all institutions of democracy to suit their whims; and while failing, they are willing to resort to destructive tactics against such institutions. Even our Party is a victim of their destructive tendencies. All their attempt is to pervert justice and stop the will of justice from rolling on.

“As a responsible political Party, we reaffirm our faith in the Judiciary as the last hope of the common man. We have faith that there are men and women of integrity in the Judiciary who ensure that justice is not only done, but that it is seen to be done. We use this opportunity to encourage the Judiciary to weather this storm of blackmail, harassment and intimidation currently being heralded by evil men in the Country,” the statement said.

Politics / EFCC Arrests Akpabio’s Cousin For N10m Scam by ezigbos: 9:09pm On Nov 02, 2016

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Ibanga Akpabio, a cousin to former Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State for his alleged involvement in a N10m oil scam.

The EFCC said on its official Facebook page that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Akpabio’s arrest was occasioned by an allegation that he collected the N10m from a potential investor in petroleum products.

The commission added, “Specifically, Akpabio reportedly approached the investor to invest the money as equity in the purchase of petroleum product directly from a floating station belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. He allegedly assured the inventor that he had secured all necessary approvals for the running of the business.

“Akpabio allegedly collected the money through a Diamond Bank account being operated by Fastej Enterprises and neither kept faith with the business arrangements with the investor nor returned his money to him.”

It was learnt that the suspect is urgently undergoing interrogation in the Port Harcourt zonal office of the EFCC.

Culture / Tears As Olubadan Daughter Dies In Car Crash by ezigbos: 8:28pm On Oct 31, 2016

The household of the famous traditional ruler, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji is in mourning.

Oba Adetunji’s daughter, Princess Mujidat Adejoke Adetunji-Alagbada has died in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Vanguard reports.
The late princess has since been buried according to Islamic injunctions in Ibadan.

A source at the palace told The Punch that the princess died after a taxi she chattered was involved in an accident around the Lagos end of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Road.

His words: “Olubadan is sad because of the death of his daughter. She was the wife of a popular music promoter, Alagbada.

“She was going to her shop when her personal vehicle broke down. She chartered a taxi but on the way, the taxi was involved in an accident around the tollgate in Lagos.

“She later died of injuries she sustained in the accident. The Olubadan has received support from Ibadan elders and council of chiefs. She was buried on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.”

The Lagos-Ibadan expressway is notorious for ghastly car crashes that has killed many Nigerians in the past.

Successive governments in the country have failed to fix the road which has practically become a dead trap for Nigerians plying the road.

The appointment of former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola as the minister of works is President Muhammadu Buhari’s attempt to fix the road.

A fortnight after his assumption of office, Julius Berger PLC and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) started work around Redemption Camp and Arepo areas at the Lagos end of the road.

Julius Berger is handling section one of the project, which stretches from Shagamu Inter-Change to Lagos, while RCC is in charge of section two, stretching from Shagamu Inter-Change to Ojoo, Ibadan.

The project is expected to be completed by July 3, 2017.

Politics / Breaking News: Twin Bomb Blasts Rock Maiduguri, Kills 6 by ezigbos: 2:58pm On Oct 29, 2016

There has been reports of a twin bomb blasts in Maiduguri City, the capital of Borno State in the early hours of Saturday killing six people, eyewitnesses say

The blasts which occurred at two different spots 1 kilometer apart echoed across the city.According to witnesses, the first blast went off at about 7a.m. at a coffee drinking spot near the Bakassi IDP camp, along the popular Maiduguri-Biu road.

“Six persons were reportedly killed in the blast and have been evacuated to the hospital,” said a resident of the area.

Shortly after that, at about 7:35a.m., another blast went off in a tricycle near the NNPC fuel depot along Damboa Road, killing a woman and the rider. It was not clear who the bomber was between the woman and the tricycle driver.

Confirming the incidents, Alhaji DanBatta, a Civilian-JTF, said that the first blast came from suicide bombers who were trying to invade Bakassi IDP camp, one of the largest displaced persons camp in Maiduguri.

“We have another sad day today, but we thank God the worst did not happen; because the suicide bombers actually wanted to enter Bakassi camp, and that could have been really bad,” said Mr. DanBatta.

“There was another one just opposite the NNPC Depot along Damboa Road. But I cannot give you the details of the casualties recorded immediately because we are presently conveying the victims to the hospital. I will get back to you when the doctors confirm their conditions,” he said.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on their official Twitter handle also confirmed the incident and said emergency officials are at the sites of the blast rescuing victims.
