PoliticsCourt To Stella Oduah: You Must Face Trial Over Corruption Allegation by ezigbos(op): 5:56pm On Oct 06, 2016
https://nigeriabreakingnews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/stellak-oduah.png

A FEDERAL High Court in Abuja has declined former Aviation Minister Mrs. Stella Oduah’s request to stop the Federal Government from investigating her tenure between 2011 and 2015 and prosecuting her.

Justice Adamu Kafarati who gave the ruling yesterday, held that the fundamental right enforcement suit by Mrs. Oduah lacked merit and bereft of any cause of action.

Justice Kafarati upheld the objection raised by the respondents, to the effect that the court lacked the requisite jurisdiction to hear the case, which subject matter was outside the ambit of Chapter Four of the Constitution.

In the suit, the former aviation mnister (now a senator from Anambra State), urged the court to declare illegal the alleged plot by the respondents to arrest, investigate and prosecute her in relation to her activities while in office, particularly the controversial two amoured vehicles purchased.

The purchase of the bullet proof vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) while Oduah was in office attracted public criticism over allegation that the prices were inflated.

Mrs Oduah argued that the criminal allegations relating to her tenure as minister had been investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and House of Representatives’ Committee on Aviation, which both absolved her of any wrong doing.

She urged the court to declare that, having earlier been exonerated, any further investigation, arrest, harassment and prosecution of her person in relation to the same issue, amounted to the invasion of her fundamental right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and to be presumed innocent until proved guilty.

She prayed for an order prohibiting the respondents from inviting, arresting, otherwise harassing or prosecuting her over the matter.

Respondents in the case were the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), EFCC, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

Justice Kafarati, in upholding the preliminary objection by the AGF and the IGP, agreed with them that Mrs Oduah could not come under the fundamental rights procedure to seek the reliefs she sought.

He said the subject matter of the case was not a fundamental rights issue.

The judge agreed that the former minister cannot seek to restrain statutory bodies from performing their statutory responsibilities through a fundamental rights enforcement application.

He held that the case was without merit and dismissed it.

PoliticsSee 11 African Presidents With The Most Presidential Jets by ezigbos(op): 7:53pm On Oct 05, 2016
https://nigeriabreakingnews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Private-jets.jpg

The news that President Buhari has put up two of the 10 private jets in the presidential fleet for sale has caused quite a stir.

While many congratulated the President, the majority of Nigerians criticized the move, either saying it came too late to matter or that selling two and keeping 8 presidential jets for his use was still corruption.

We have decided to take a close look at the presidential jets of other African leaders as a way to compare or contrast with the 8 presidential jets likely still remaining in the fleet.

1. Tunisia

In 2012, when the new Tunisian government began ruling after the ousting of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, the former presidential aircraft, an Airbus A340-500, was put up for sale, according to reports in the French media.

The government of Tunisia now operates one presidential jet, a Boeing 737 BBJ. The Airbus A340-500 is yet to be sold, but has never been used for official travel and has been stored since 2011.

2. Algeria

While he may have other aircraft in his presidential fleet the Algerian president rides in a gigantic A340-500 private jet that runs on four engines.

The plane which normally is supposed to carry about 150 passengers but this one is customized to cater for the presidents luxury needs.

It has a private bedroom, a fully equipped shower room and high quality finish. It is believed that the A340 can last airborne for up to 14 hours, non-stop.

3. Ivory Coast

The Ivorian government uses a Gulfstream IV as a VIP aircraft and also a government Boeing 727-200WGL. The Boeing 727 is a midsized, narrow-body three-engined jet aircraft that can carry 149 to 189 passengers.

It is intended for short and medium-length flights, the 727 can use relatively short runways at smaller airports. It has three Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines below the T-tail, one on each side of the rear fuselage with a center engine that connects through an S-duct to an inlet at the base of the fin.

4. Kenya

The government of Kenya uses 3 presidential aircraft, a Fokker 70 (F-70), which was purchased in 2015. Before 2015, the Kenyan president primarily used Kenya Airways for his international travel.

Aside from the F-70, the Presidential fleet also includes a Bombardier Dash 8 and an Aerospatiale Puma, mostly for domestic travel.

5. South Africa

The South African presidential fleet contains about 5 aircraft. This includes a Boeing 737 (BBJ), which the president uses to travel frequently.

The fleet also operates two Falcon 50 and a Falcon 900B Fleet, 550/1 Citation II, and a Global Express XRS is hired to escort the President on long flights as a back-up aircraft. The Falcon 900 is normally used by the Deputy President and high-ranking cabinet ministers.

There are also reportedly plans to add to this number as in 2015 the South African president, president Jacob Zuma, had asked Armscor to procure a business jet with the capability of carrying at least 30 passengers and travel long range distances which is much larger than the current presidential jet.

6. Zimbabwe

The President of Zimbabwe does not have a private jet, at least not anymore, The president’s own British Aerospace 146–200 Series aircraft ordered in the 1980s was retired after long use and now the president travels via a chartered Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767-200ER aircraft, which is part of the national airline’s fleet.

Surprisingly, President Mugabe will sometimes share the plane with commercial passengers on scheduled flights.

7. Tanzania

The Tanzanian president primarily uses a Gulfstream G550, which the government flight agency operates for VIP transports.

Aside from the Gulfstream, the presidential fleet also contains 2 other VIP aircraft a Fokker F-50 and F-28 for internal and regional destinations as well, bringing the number of aircraft to three.

8. Ghana

The Ghanaian presidential jet is a Dassault Falcon 900EX. In March 2016, during a take-off at the Kotoka International Airport, the jet caught fire.

The fire was said to have been caused by a friction between the two main left wheels of the aircraft and the runway surface. It was however brought under control by fire service personnel from the Air Force Base and that of the main airport.

9. Bostwana

As at 2015, the Bostwana government used a Bombardier Global Express, it previously operated a Gulfstream IV as a VIP transport.

The Gulfstream IV (or G-IV or GIV) and derivatives are a family of twinjet aircraft, mainly for private or business use. It was designed and built by Gulfstream Aerospace, a General Dynamics company based in Savannah, Georgia, United States from 1985 until 2003.

10. Burkina Faso

The government of Burkina Faso reportedly has two aircraft in its presidential fleet. The president primarily uses a special Boeing 727 for important flights. However, a Falcon 900 has been added, and is the type frequently in use now.

11. Egypt

The Egyptian president has at least four aircraft in the presidential fleet. An Airbus A340-200 along with a number of business jets including the Gulfstream IV and Dassault Falcon 20s.

Before receiving an airplane as a gift from Saudi Arabia to Egyptian President Sadat. Presidents usually traveled using a rented airplane from the National Egyptian Air company, Egypt Air.

In his reaction, Governor Fayose, who spoke through his special assistant on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka, said he was happy that those holding power in Abuja listened to what he said on September 2, 2016 on the need to reintroduce History in our schools. PoliticsNIMASA Re-awards Tompolo’s Contract To Rivers APC Chairman by ezigbos(op): 9:11pm On Oct 01, 2016
https://latestnigerianews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/apc.jpg

The debt recovery and surveillance contracts awarded to the Global West Vessel Specialists Nigeria Limited (GWVSNL) owned by former Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpo- mupolo, popularly known as Tompolo by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) under the Goodluck Jonathan administration and cancelled by Buhari have now been awarded to Snecou Nigeria Limited, a company owned by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr Davies Akanya.

THISDAY investigation revealed that after the award of the contract, Akanya and the new DG of NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside, now resume work and close at the same time, with Akanya also assigned an official car.
Reliable sources in the agency told THISDAY that the contract awarded on No-Cure-No-Pay basis was awarded without formal bidding process even though they were advertised in newspapers. Industry source told THISDAY that the debt owed NIMASA by shipping companies is in the region of $15 billion while NIMASA estimates it to be in the region of $5 billion and that the certificate for the contract award had been given to Akanya despite reports that his company does not have the competence to do the job.

The source told THISDAY that as spelt out in the contract, Akanya’s company would get between 10 and 15 per cent of money recovered for NIMASA. Under the new contract, Akanya’s company is to among other things, provide platforms for waterways monitoring and enforcement; engage in revenue services enhancement and debt reconciliation and recovery services for NIMASA.

Checks revealed that the new company is to be paid a total of N4.8 million monthly by NIMASA as engagement fees and other allowances for the period of the two years contract, commencing from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2018. The former Director General of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi, had in 2011, awarded a 10-year maritime security contract to GWVSNL. As part of the contract, GWVESNL was expected to provide platforms to be used by the Nigerian navy and other security operatives to patrol the waterways.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation under Chibuike Amaechi, a chieftain of the APC and major financier of the Buhari campaign in 2015, had last July directed NIMASA under Peterside to terminate GWVSNL’s contract and discontinue payment to it. The directive was sequel to the freezing of GWVSNL’s account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

THISDAY gathered that when the contract was awarded to Tompolo in 2011 by the Jona- than’s administration, elements who later formed the core of the APC had seriously condemned the action on the grounds that such a sensitive contract like patrolling the country’s waterways was awarded to a militant. With the termination of Tompolo’s contract, over 20 vessels in the inventory of Global West were taken over by NIMASA, yet they lack crafts to carry out their duties with observers wondering where the vessels disappeared to.

The source also told THISDAY that Tompolo and his militant group had however, vowed not to allow Akanya do the job even if they sublet the contract to a more competent company. According to the source, ‘I can tell you that top officials of NIMASA are not happy with the way the contracts were awarded. How can you give such contract to a person of interest without giving opportunity to other companies to bid for the contract?’ Akanya and Peterside are both from Rivers State where the former contested the 2015 governorship election and lost to the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

THISDAY checks gathered that the decision to award the contract to the APC chairman might not be unconnected with plans to prepare Peterside ahead of the 2019 governorship election in the state. When contacted, the NIMASA boss, Peterside, while admitting that the contract was actually awarded, said it was a debt recovery contract, different from the one awarded to Tompolo’s company.

‘We are about to issue a statement on that. We awarded a debt recovery assignment which is totally different from Global Fleet and Tompolo was doing for NIMASA which took over revenue collection,’ Peterside said. He added, ‘There is nothing wrong with what we have done. That is how it is done globally. People just want to make some- thing out of nothing. The contract was not awarded to Akanya, it was awarded to Snecou Nigeria Limited and we advertised the contract in several newspapers. So I don’t see what is wrong with awarding a contract to get our money from debtors.’

On the value of the contract, he said: ‘I cannot tell you the actual value; nobody knows the actual value as it fluctuates. But I can tell you that it is in the region of $4 billion or $5 billion. But I am not sure how much it is.’ However, a top Director in NIMASA who pleaded for anonymity for fear of being victimised told THISDAY that NIMASA has the capacity to recover its debt without the use of a consultant. He said: ‘Dakuku and his people just want to make money.

Why must we hire a consultant to recover our debt? Our staff can effectively do that. NIMASA will be paying billions of Naira to Akanya for doing nothing. Contracts cancelled by the government on the al- legation of corruption are now being awarded to cronies and members of the APC. It is a shame that this kind of a thing is happening under a Buhari administration that claims to be fighting corruption.’

Meanwhile, every effort made to reach Akanya as at the time of filling this report proved abortive as his phone was switched off. Even the text messages sent to the phone were not replied.

PoliticsBREAKING: First Details Of 2017 Budget Emerges by ezigbos(op): 7:11pm On Sep 15, 2016

The federal government has let Nigerians into some of the details of the 2017 budget during a retreat for ministers and some of heads of agencies in Abuja on Thursday, September 15. The 2017 budget contains details that will boost the economy and get the country out of recession. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the budget, which has already been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) but has not yet been presented to the national assembly, is focusing largely on pumping funds into capital projects to get the economy running again.

According to NAN, the retreat is aimed at helping the government stakeholders understand how the 2017 budget will run and familiarise themselves with the process. The retreat, it reports, will help set the tone for “prioritizing projects and programmes of ministries to fit into the 2017-2019 MTSS, 2017-2020 Medium Term Plan and 2017 Budget” and “also improve understanding on Budget ceiling for MDAs for 2017 Budget.” It also quoted Akpandem James, media adviser to the budget minister, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma as saying that the key objective of the retreat is to discuss the 2017 Budget and steps being taken to get the economy out of recession. It was held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja and was chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari and vice president, Yemi Osinbajo.

PoliticsMUST READ: There Is A Big Conspiracy Going On With Boko Haram by ezigbos(op): 5:52pm On Sep 15, 2016
https://latestnigerianews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Boko-Haram-new-video-767x437.jpg

One of the factions of the deadly Boko Haram sect under the leadership of Abubakar Shekau on September 12 unveiled a new video showing thousands of terrorists praying. The group threatened President Muhammadu Buhari on the recoding saying that they would capture him with bare hands.

Dr. Peregrino Brimah, coordinator of the Every Nigerian Do Something project and political observer, explores the footage revealing that the big conspiracy going on with Boko Haram.
While the federal government of Nigeria has repeatedly announced that Boko Haram no longer holds on to any territory in Nigeria, the commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), David Rodriguez in March this year challenged that claim. Boko Haram “does own some significant territory in northern Nigeria,” Rodriguez told the Senate Armed Services Committee in Washington.

In January of this year President Muhamamdu Buhari had said to the UN Sec. Gen. at a summit in Abu Dhabi, that Boko Haram was “currently not holding any territory.”

Evidently from the latest video released by the group, there are still at least a couple of thousand members of Boko Haram able to freely assemble in Nigeria.

The latest 12 minute video claims to show two separate locations where the Eid prayers were being held. One was in a rather large and well built above ground Mosque and the other appeared to be in the same prayer ground where the Eid prayers were conducted in another similar video released last year.

Not Hiding

In the videos the alleged terrorist group members did not cover their faces as they were not trying to hide their identities. This clearly means that these large numbers in the thousands live in their own Boko Haram towns and villages and not incognito within regular communities.

It is impossible for such numbers of people to live undercover or underground. The numbers seen in the latest video must occupy decent land.

On estimate, the minimum area of arable land to support one person in most congested conditions is 0.07 of a hectare, that’s 7 hectares per thousand people. And for at least 5000 in the video which did not show the female and children populations which could blow up the numbers to double or quadruple those seen in the video, we would have at least 35 to 140 hectares of Boko Haram occupied territory. That’s about 35 to 140 football pitches, minimum but expected to be much more. The Nigerian military has deliberately blocked and censored most information coming out of the northeast, so accurate details are impossible to determine.

Well Fed

Another thing that could be observed from the video was the relatively well-fed appearance of the community. Unlike Nigerians currently in camps for the internally displaced, IDPs, who are suffering and dying from severe malnutrition, the terrorists appeared well fed, well dressed and of good wellbeing. This would mean that they are occupying villages where they have lots of arable land where they cultivate their crops and they also command large numbers of livestock for dietary protein and thus have access to natural water sources where the livestock are hydrated.

Boko Haram appear to be living large in our farming villages while the decent villagers are cramped up and dying in their dozens daily in congested camps with sparse food, water and poor sanitation.

Occupying Villages

When the news broke earlier this month that the “Shekau” faction of Boko Haram and the Barnawi one were fighting each other, it was immediately apparent that they both were quite comfortable and occupied sufficient territorial habitation.

A certain Mele Kaka had told Vanguard that the villages of Yele, Arafa and Zuwa village in nearby Marte district were all occupied by loyalists of Shekau. The report did not list the villages occupied by the Barnawi sect.

From the above, we can safely draw the following conclusions:

It is evident that Borno’s farming villages are still occupied by Boko Haram.

Terrorists are feeding fat on the rich farmlands of Borno while IDPs die of starvation in camps.

It appears the Chief of Army Staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai is either auspiciously clueless of the reality that several farming villages are occupied by thousands of Boko Haram terrorists, or he is being willingly oblivious of this fact and is lying to President Muhammadu Buhari that there is no territory under Boko Haram control.

It can be concluded that the war against Boko Haram is far from over and is in a controlled lull at best at the moment.

Is There An Accord Between Buratai and Boko Haram?

We had this same problem under Jonathan claiming he did not know where Boko Haram was, which made us then publish the articles,”National Security Update: Details Of The Sambisa Camps Holding Our 200 Abducted Daughters” and later, “Cities In Sambisa And Myths Of Booby-traps.” Boko Haram has never been inconspicuous and still isn’t. Our Civilian-JTF always locate them when the army claims they can’t.

It would be highly impossible for the numbers seen in the video to exist without some sort of relationship with the army. The Nigerian army led by a Borno indigene, knows where they are and has decided not to massacre them as it does to others groups of individuals across Nigeria from Zaria to the south east and south south.

If as is evident, the terrorists occupy these villages and the Nigerian army is not doing anything about it, what is the mutual arrangement between Buratai and the villages of Boko Haram and why is there such a private accord?

Is it only terrorists who step out of the areas where the Nigerian army may have agreed that the communities of Boko Haram should restrict themselves to that the army kills once in a while? We do know that in Boko Haram’s heyday, there were no fewer than 30,000 members. The military has never produced evidence of killing or capturing more than a few thousand. The latest video substantiates this analyst calculation.

While it is unreasonable and would be totally inappropriate to expect the Nigerian army to wipeout the entire thousands of terrorists who still maintain their own state within the Nigerian state, the citizens of Nigeria deserve to know the true predicament and be a part of determining a final solution to the crisis.

Implications As Boko Haram Threatens The President of Nigeria

How do we deal with thousands of Boko Haram terrorists and inadvertent recruits, members and abductees residing in whole villages in the northeast?

There must be an open concrete plan to arrest all these members and charge and capitally punish all guilty of murder or rape, and sentence other members while punishing and/or rehabilitating as courts decide, those who have not been involved in criminality. Any arrangement with Boko Haram that allows their coexistence within the Nigerian space is unconstitutional and a violation of Nigeria’s sovereignty and security. More so as Boko Haram is a most existential threat considering the fact that in their latest video they have gone as far as issuing a direct threat at the President of the Federal republic of Nigeria.

The Nigerian military does not have the authority to create a community-amnesty arrangement with these wanted terrorists who have killed tens of thousands of Nigerians, displaced millions and destroyed farmlands and the economy, thereby causing untold hardship and deaths to locals and Nigerians at large.

It is necessary the Nigerian army comes clean to the Presidency and Nigerians at large. We must as a nation decide how best to deal with the remnant threat of Boko Haram. We applaud our soldiers who have stayed steadfast and continued to make the ultimate sacrifice, combatting Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast. We understand that the military is stretched thin and to capacity and thus we continue to offer our services as volunteer forces willing, able and ready to join the Nigerian army combat and capture these thousands of terrorists. The Civilian-JTF which consists/consisted of tens of thousands of able youth, ex-soldiers, hunters and other Nigerians have shown their commitment and offered their patriotic assistance to join the Nigerian military in this battle. It is time this offer is seriously considered. Boko Haram has resurged too many times in Nigeria’s history for an incomplete mission to be in any way acceptable. The defeat of this menace must be total and complete.

An eyewitness, who gave her name as Obioma Chineye, told newsmen at the scene of the incident, that “The boy in question is our tenant. He was sent to buy pure water. On the way, the man called him and he followed him as if he was hypnotised.

“Meanwhile, the person who sent him on an errand sighted him when the stranger accosted him. He became curious when the boy passed where he was supposed to buy the water and ran after the suspect.

“When he asked the stranger what he was doing with the boy, he claimed he was his brother.

“At that moment, the boy came back to his senses and said he did not know him. A mob descended on him, during which he admitted to be a kidnapper. He said he was taking him to some people who sent him. He also said that he went into kidnapping because of hardship.”

PoliticsUNBELIEVABLE: See What Fulani Herdsmen Just Did In Abia State by ezigbos(op): 11:29am On Sep 10, 2016
https://nigerianewsonline.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/herdsmen-fulani-grazing-690x437.jpg

Leaders of Hausa and Fulani herdsmen in Abia state have signed a peace accord with community leaders on Thursday in a bid to forestall violent clashes between herdsmen and their host communities and ensure a peaceful coexistence.

The accord was initiated by the Abia state government, the police, and leaders of various communities in the state.
It was signed at a Town Hall meeting organised by the state committee on herdsmen and farmers conflict resolution at the Police Officer’s Mess in Umuahia, the state capital.

Chairman of the committee and Commissioner of Police, Adeleye Oyebade, while addressing the inaugural meeting with leaders of Hausa/Fulani community, traditional rulers, town unions, women and youth groups, stated that the meeting became necessary because “the unity of this country is paramount and not negotiable.”

Oyebade explained that the Abia State Government set up the committee to avoid the kind of violent clashes herdsmen have been having in neighbouring states and called on all parties to proffer a solution that would lead to a peaceful coexistence.

He also disclosed that the committee has designed short, medium and long-term resolution and urged the traditional rulers to carry their people along in negotiating with herdsmen.

While reminding all the parties that the constitution of Nigeria provides for peaceful coexistence and freedom of movement, he stated that “just as the herdsmen have the right to migrate to any part of the country, the law does not allow the destruction of another’s property/farm.

The same way, communities should not kill the cows in reprisal but should take the proper channel of conflict resolution, including dialogue and reporting to security agencies.

He also charged the Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, in the affected local government areas to replicate the state committee with heads of security agencies.

“The issue of destroying of farms crops, killing of cows and poisoning of water which in most cases breed trouble is what we are trying to find a lasting solution to with the aim of avoiding unnecessary conflicts now or in the future,” the police chief stated.

Abia state Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, in his remark stated through his deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai that the committee was set up to avoid any crisis between the farmers and herdsmen, adding that the Commissioner of Police was made the chairman because of his track record. He urged the parties to cooperate with the committee.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu’s Sister Shares Her Ordeal With Soldiers At Kuje Prison by ezigbos(op): 10:55am On Sep 10, 2016
https://latestnigerianews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IPOB-Kanu-And-Family.jpg

A sister to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra has the manner at which she and some other members of her family faced in the hands of some soldiers.

Princess Tonia Kanu while speaking to NAIJ.com said she had gone to Kuje prison to pay her brother a visit on Tuesday, September 6, when 14 security operatives – 12 soldiers and 2 others on mufti – accosted her and some other family members.
Princess said: “Actually what really happened is that I went to Kuje to see my brother as usual! Coincidentally I met three of my uncles there… They also came to see my brother and they had already filled their form.”

She said because her uncles were at the facility before her, they were also privileged to meet with Kanu before it was her turn.

“After they finished with him, on their way coming out I was about going in… they told me not to be in a haste that my brother have told them to wait for me so they can drop me in any close place for me to pick a cab and go home,” Princess said.

Continuing, Kanu’s sister said after the visitation, there had just left the facility when the heavily armed men with a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BV 718 RSH double crossed them.

“They ordered all of us to come down and enter their own vehicle, which we did and they kept us there for more than 30mins until my uncle asked one of the officers to explain what was happening and what our offence was.

Princess said the officer in question said they should remain quiet and exercise patience as they will be well informed of their offence when they get to where they would be taken to.

“So, immediately I wanted to make a call with my phone but then, they asked me not to try it.

“Then one of the men on mufti said we look familiar (me and my uncle), he said it seems he sees me on TV. That was when my uncle, Emeka Ndumele told him that he is Nnamdi Kanu’s brother,” Kanu’s sister said.

“They left us in the bus with the armed soldiers while they went to one corner to make calls. After a very long call, they came back and said we should drop our mobile phone numbers and addresses.

Princess told NAIJ.com that they obeyed the officer directive, without argument.

She said the officers also informed them they were acting on “orders from above”.

She also said although the security officer did not beat or try to torture them, she felt embarrassed and disappointed.

“One of the officers had Ejiofor on his name tag, I don’t know what they want from us, if they want my brother to die of hunger there because I am the one that goes there to know what he needs almost every day.

“Although they never mentioned my brother’s name…but according to my uncles when they were inside the prison with him, the one on mufti was working around there monitoring them and their discussion with my brother.

“Then he sat beside them as if he is also waiting to see his own inmate, not knowing he was probably there as an informant. It was when those soldiers surrounded us then he appear from behind a building and he was also the one making all the calls.

Despite the ordeal, Sonia said: “The incident cannot spoke me from going to visit my brother in Kuje, unless they want him to die there.”

Attempts to reach army spokesperson Sani Usman on the incident was futile as his mobile line did not connect.

Also Usman is yet to reply an inquiry sent to his phone on the matter.

But counsel to Kanu, who spoke to NAIJ.com said the incident was a total ambush and hostage situation perpetrated by the military.

Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor said: “A team of soldiers numbering about 12, fully armed to the teeth apparently acting through an informant was trailing Nnamdi Kanu’s family members.”

Stating that the team of soldiers were led by one Major Yushau, Ejiofor said the news of temporary abducted of Princess and her family member is shocking.

“It is to say the least, the height of brazen violation of our laws. While under prison custody, the law allows all inmates including Nnamdi Kanu to receive visitors including family members, provided that the visitors subject themselves to requisite security screening before gaining entrance,” Ejiofor, Kanu’s lawyer said.

He further noted that all intending visitors are also to be guided by the rules and regulations operational in the prison custody.

“This development is a clear attempt to ban Nnamdi kanu from receiving visitors including his family members, as the intendment is to instil fears on people that may wish to pay him visit.

“When this is achieve, his life will then be exposed to more dangers in detention. Especially, against the backdrop of visible but repeated threats to his life.

“We must challenge this abduction, intimidation and harassment in a court of law, as it is a clear violation of the constitutional rights of the citizens that paid him visit.

“We are still investigating further details provided with a view to coming up with the appropriate cause of action, deserving in the circumstance. This lawlessness and impunity must stop.

“We find it extremely unacceptable as it offends all known democratic norms,” he concluded.

PoliticsTop 7 Ways To Save Nigeria From Self Destruction by ezigbos(op): 10:07am On Sep 10, 2016
https://nigeriabreakingnews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/map-broken-nigeria-600x437.jpg

Nigeria as a nation is going through what many have come to term as the darkest hour in the nation’s long history. So many challenges besets the country’s growth and urgent solutions are needed.

This article stems from the fact that most of the problems faced within the country have roots in politics, hence, if the political problem is fixed, every other thing begins to fall into place.
It must be noted that most of the option given in this article were obtained from interviews and interactions with many Nigerians across the nation. We begin from bottom to top.

7. Independent Candidacy

One of the ways proposed for saving Nigeria via politics, is to have the option of Independent Candidacy. Proponents of this idea believe that an individual can be sponsored by the people to run for position in government.

It is their believe that when a person gets into power with the aid of the people, he becomes solely accountable to the people whose votes and resources got him the coveted position.

6. No Cross-carpeting

In recent times it has become common place to see politicians cross-carpet, especially between ruling parties and the opposition. Those who favor this idea say that events have shown that moving from one party to the other by these politicians is not because of some ideology they frown at, but to better position themselves.

Some will argue that everyone has a right political to join whichever he or she deems right, however, if these cross-carpeting politicians cannot make up their minds on where to belong, how can they make up their minds on what direction the nation should be headed?

5. No Immunity

The immunity clause is said to be a great reason why so many people in government have continued to plunder the nation. Those in power tend to use this provision in the law to carryout various criminal activities and no one can touch them while in power.

These officials who have been handed great power wield it without caution from the day they are sworn into office. As the days go bye, they get more powerful to the point where they become somewhat above the law itself, hence tainting the entire idea of the rule-of-law.

Those whose propose this idea believe that if the immunity clause is removed, then those in power will get to amend their ways, knowing that every error or mistake could see them being walked out of the corridors of power.

4. Vote a New Party

For over 16 years now, Nigerians have only had a taste of just two political parties, so the proponents of this idea believe that if only Nigerians can vote another party asides the now ruling All Progressive Congress and the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), then things would become better.

This thought is in line with the Independent Candidacy idea. For those who believe in this theory, a change from the known to that which little is known, will serve Nigeria a lot better.

3. Death Penalty

For many, any leader who is tried and founding wanting when weighed in the balance, a steep punishment should be handed him or her.

If the crime is one of very great of which many turn out to be, then the death penalty should be served to serve as a deterrent to others who think they can toil with the peoples’ franchise.

People who pushed for this idea were of the opinion that it is very rare to see leaders get punished for crimes committed. This has a correlation with the immunity clause early talked about.

It is their opinion that when those in political positions realise that their lives are at stake if they don’t deliver, then they would try to serve aright, delivering to the people the dividends of democracy.

2. Kill Them All

A very crazy ideology this sounds like, kill all those who we know are in the topmost position, and those who have ruled in the past and still lingering and trying to make a return.

The proponents of this course agree that it is a very rash decision, however, they argue that countries where such things have happened, have been stable ever since.

They argue that because we have continued to recycle the same leaders, there are no innovations from the seat of power; it only becomes a case of new wines in old skins.

To some it was something that would only have worked in a military era, they argue that for such to be carried out now, Nigeria would be thrown into a full blown war.

They rather infer that a law enacted that would see less participation of the old names Nigerians have become too familiar with. The law would place all those who have been within the corridors of power act way lesser capacities, only to be consulted once in a while.

1. True Federalism or Divide Nigeria

No doubt, Nigeria is operating a federal system of government, however there are arguments that what is practiced is not true federalism. Hence the call for a review of the system on which the nation is run.

Over the years there have been demands for the creation of newer states in Nigeria, the agitation for new states mostly comes from sub-state groups, often ethnic- or tribal-interest groups, which accuse the current larger state governments of subverting or ignoring the interests and necessities of people within the more local areas.

Often state governors and leaders in various regions are found guilty of financial crimes, hence the proponents of true federalism argue that if transparency and accountability cannot be attained under the nation’s current federal system, then a split is the best option.

There also issues of tribalism regarding placement of officials in the federal system of government. Current there are claims that the people of the north are having better placements in political offices under the present government. Hence, some people from the east claim that they for too long have been sidelined.

The three major tribes in Nigeria (Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba), tend to be oppressing the other minority groups in terms of appointments. Hence, the other ethnic groups have constantly carried out protests in different forms to air their grievances. Most of which are within the south-south region.

Proponents of this theory believe that Nigeria needs to go back to the drawing board and re-strategize on how best to satisfy every one to a great extent. They also believe that if because of the nation’s population and factors of tribe, culture and belief, true federalism cannot be attained, then the nation must settle for a bloodless split like some other nations have been able to achieve.

Nigeria would be a very great nation if it’s political malady is cured. The nation has a great potential to be a leading figure in the world if better governance is given a chance.

As said, there are calls for a dissolution from many quarters, however, the fear is that the split might come with irreparable losses as it is in case of Sudan. Nigerians can only hope that their leaders begin to serve with the people at heart.

There is a great chance that even in the face to many crisis, the nation can still be restored to and beyond its former glory.

PoliticsPDP Reacts To Edo Election Postponement By INEC by ezigbos(op): 9:31am On Sep 09, 2016

The postponement of the Edo governorship election has been greeted with extreme repugnance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to the main opposition party in the state, the postponement of Saturday’s governorship election is illegal and a coup against the people. In a statement by its spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the PDP said the date should be kept sacrosanct. The party stated that there were no tangible reasons to tamper with the election, adding that the postponement is an attempt by the FG and security agencies to buy time for the APC.

The statement said: “The call for the postponement of the election by the top hierarchy of the security agencies predicated on alleged security threat was a less than ingenious attempt to buy time for the APC which is clearly heading for a major electoral catastrophe on Saturday. It is shameful and indeed a major constitutional breach for the security agencies to act in concert with the APC to truncate an election that had been planned for months. Nigerians were not deceived by the obvious concoctions of the security agencies whose performances during elections have been less than average since the advent of the Buhari administration. “Indeed they have become instruments in the hands of the ruling party to harass, intimidate and punish opponents.”

We have seen many prophecies by most pastors come to past in Nigeria and we have also seen many that didn’t. A prominent man of God, Pastor Emma Chris Ifeanyi has sent his new prophecies for Nigeria and for the world. The pastor predicted that soon one of the state governors will go mad. He also said that he saw affliction befalling the present Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha.

These are the other prophecies of the cleric:
1. Arthur Eze will die, there will be a bit of Ebola disease in Nigeria.

2. A train in India will have a fault that may lead to disaster.

5. There will be fire outbreak in Ikoyi Lagos state.

6. A Nigerian senator will be murdered.

7. There will a riot in Benin city.

8. A four-story building will collapse.

9. Pray for Pius Anyim’s health so God will sustain his life.

10. Before the death of Ojo Nmaduekwe God revealed it to him and the congregation prayed about it but he said let the will of God be done. Also when he saw someone getting bunch of dollars freely. After 2 days white men favoured a man with bunch of dollars.

These are just few among many prophecies he gave that manifested.

Following controversial preaching bill another prominent man of God Apostle Suleman foresaw that Governor El-Rufai will die over his plan to amend Kaduna’s “Religious Preaching Laws of 1984.”

Meanwile, some of his predictions didn’t materialize, one of them included the declaration that El-Rufai would lose the 2015 governorship election. Apart from Apostle Suleman, another Nigerian cleric, Dr Chris Okafor has given Governor El-Rufai 14 days to retract his impending religious bill or face the wrath of God.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Addressed As ‘his Excellency, President Of Biafra’ Inside Kuje Priso by ezigbos(op): 9:41am On Sep 06, 2016

Charles Okah, the mastermind of the October 1, 2010 bombing has said that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, is usually addressed as ‘His Excellency, President of Biafra,’ by some inmates.

Okah, who is also an inmate of the same prison, made the revelation on Monday in a statement, according to The Vanguard.
Okah, founder of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) who was recently nominated as leader of two splinter IPOB groups, The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB) and the Renegade Indigenous People of Biafra (RENIPOB) said Kanu goes around with an ‘entourage’

Okah, in a statement, accepting his nomination by The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB) and the Renegade Indigenous People of Biafra (RENIPOB), “Humility comes before honour. Even in prison, not a few concerned persons, particularly Biafrans have argued that Nnamdi Kanu believes he is already the “President of Biafra” and goes about with an ‘entourage’ and is addressed as “His Excellency”.”

“That is a fact I have witnessed myself. This narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) was enough to drive away so many of his admirers, who have since flocked in droves and thereby swelled the teeming number of TRIPOB members,” he asserted.

“As the new chief executive of TRIPOB, he declared, “I hereby issue executive order number one, which is that the planned ’surrender’ of the Biafran flag scheduled for January 15, 2017 is hereby cancelled. All preparations towards the ceremony must be put on hold with immediate effect.

“The surrender of a people can only come from the inside. A man may surrender outwardly, but remain defiant inside. The spirit to be ‘free’ cannot be suppressed. We, as a people can only be bound by our mind and our fears.

“My nomination by two splinter groups from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) – The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB) and the Renegade Indigenous People of Biafra (RENIPOB) as their Leader was brought to my attention in Kuje Prison by my lawyer, Mr. Timipa Jenkins Okponipere, Esq.”

He advised professionals not to give away their money to a con artist all in the name of starting a second civil war.

“Your numerous donations cannot bring about a secessionist “Biafra Republic”, but they can change the mindset of our people.

“Your donations and financial support can also help to improve the standard of living of our people when they are channeled into training and loans. Anyone suggesting to you that they want to start a second civil war to ‘liberate’ us is a con artist. Even an Igbo President in Nigeria today will never seat to negotiate a break-up with anybody. A word is enough for the wise,” he said.

He said his nomination as TRIPOB leader, indeed, came to him as a pleasant surprise, as he is an Ijaw–Biafran from Amassoma in Bayelsa state, but he decided to accept it because of its respect for the other tribes and indigenous peoples, who make up the rich and diverse ‘Biafra’ region.

He declared, “Biafra does not belong to a single tribe. It is erroneous therefore for any tribe to single themselves as owning Biafra and to say they have been marginalized.

“This misconception is deceitful, ungrateful and wicked considering the giant strides my Igbo brothers and sisters continue to make in Nigeria today. From those who own tank farms as captains in the oil and gas sub-sector of the Nigerian economy, to those who have dominated the local movie industry (otherwise known as “Nollywood”), exporting their culture and language to all parts of the globe.

“It will only serve the interest of a few persons to deceive the majority of blind followers to start believing they are slaves in this land of opportunities though tongue and tribe may differ,” he said.

He added, “Under my leadership, TRIPOB will help to change the misconception and instead, free our minds to know that the ‘Biafran’ can begin from the villages to the cities of our various states to make them attractive and at the same time, hold our public office holders to account for their stewardship; instead of blaming President Muhammadu Buhari for the ills which have befallen our society.

“A lazy workman will want to blame his tools. Blaming the Directorate of Security Services (DSS) or the APC-led government for the emergence of factions in IPOB is an insult to the average Biafran, who thrives on courage and a mind of their own.

“Some of the women who left the women wing of IPOB did so because they could not understand why somebody would be shopping almost every day on the expensive Oxford street in London with proceeds of donations pouring in from donors around the world, who have been deceived that their money will help to ‘liberate’ Biafra, when a fraction of that money spent on shopping can upgrade the businesses of those women roasting corn and groundnut by the roadside in our beloved Biafra.

“Indeed, my administration shall commence by using donations received from donors to create jobs and upgrade existing small-scale entrepreneurs starting from the markets and roadside from all across the Biafra region.

“For instance, under my leadership, the woman frying akara (bean cake) on the streets of Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Uyo, Awka, Onitsha, Calabar, Okigwe, Owerri, Aba, Enugu, etc., will do so in style; complete with all the tools, training, exposure, apparel and standard of a modern fast food enterprise. She can only achieve this with our support,” he said.

45-year-old Tracey Lee Giffin allegedly flew into a rage when she woke up from a nap and discovered her last can in the house was gone.

Meet SwagBot – the world’s first cattle rounding robot, developed by Australian scientists to aid the country’s livestock farmers.

Professor Salah Sukkarieh heads the research team at the University of Sydney, which developed the robot.

“We haven’t seen anything like this, there have been robots that have been used on cattle stations but they have just been your four-axe, your four wheel, fixed-axis robotic systems,” said Salah Sukkarieh, Professor of Robotics and Intelligent Systems, School of Aerospace Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Univeristy of Sydney.

“Here what you have is a omni-directional robot, can move in any direction, has an articulation mechanism as well, so it’s a much more agile type of robot.”

Propelled on four wheels, Swagbot is capable of navigating over obstacles and can be remotely navigated by farmers. The robot remains in development, but Sukkarieh believes it could be in production within three years.

Sukkarieh said “So the biggest problem that we have been told is about 24/7 monitoring, so that they can, especially around animal welfare, so they can have robotic systems that are out there constantly looking at the animals, especially dealing with any animals that might be sick for example, that’s really where the greatest benefit is.

“And also at the same time, in Australia anyway, we are talking about very large properties, 4,000 hectares up to 40,000 hectares for a standard average cattle farm and in those situations, you’re only dealing with a grower and his wife, or a grower and her husband and it’s just the two of them.

“So being able to have tools or systems that can actually trial or tow things around from point A to point B, monitoring where the animals are, making sure the fence lines are ok, things like that are what becomes important.”

Australia is one of the largest cattle exporting countries in the world, but the average age of producers is rising all the time. The task is made more difficult by a labor shortage.

The challenge threatens to undermine Australia’s hope of boosting agricultural output to profit from rising Asian demand for red meat, in particular. Technology offers the best hope to arrest Australia’s slowing productivity, necessary if Australia is to reach its target of being the main food supplier to Asia

PoliticsDog Named Buhari: Presidency Finally Reacts To Man’s Arrest by ezigbos(op): 6:10pm On Aug 26, 2016
The presidency has reacted to the arrest and release of 41-year-old Joachim Chinakwe, who popularity soared after he named his dog Buhari.

According to Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on Media and Publicity, those linking the arrest of Chinakwe to President Buhari following the dog incident are just displaying their ignorance of the type of person the president is.

Shehu took to his Facebook page to make this known.

He said: “I am thinking of saying, using my own handle that people linking the President to this dog incident are just displaying their ignorance of the type of person he is.

“He enjoys cartoons and likes sharing them. The ones he enjoys the most are those that caricature him. It is cheap and sensational to say he can order a police action against a caricature. When he picks a paper, the first page he reaches for is the cartoon page. He laughs and laughs.

“The President must be having a good laugh over this whole thing.
“People should listen to the real story behind this dog incident and to not waste precious time seeking the hand of the President in a laughable incident.”

Foreign AffairsBolivian Miners On Thursday During A Clash With The Minister Beaten To Death By by ezigbos(op): 5:30pm On Aug 26, 2016
police in the town of Panduro hacked the Deputy Interior Minister to death.

Interior Minister, Carlos Romero, confirmed on Friday that reports by witnesses indicated that the 55-year-old was beaten to death following clashes between police and miners in the town of Panduro, 165 kilometres south-east of La Paz.
Romero said Illanes had been kidnapped by miners after attempting to initiate talks with them at a roadblock.

The minister, who spoke of a “cowardly and brutal” murder, added that his aide was also injured and was taken to hospital.

He said that one miner was reportedly also killed in the Thursday’s clashes, bringing the death toll in several days of protests against controversial trade union legislation to three.

“Two miners were killed on Wednesday.

“Around 100 miners were detained after Thursday’s protests,’’ he said.

Miners currently represented by independently organized cooperatives have been using street blockades to protest against a law allowing them to join trade unions.

The national federation of mining cooperatives (Fencomin) representing some 10,000 miners rejects any trade union influence on Bolivia’s mining sector.
