1. Controversial Figure:



Johnson is a controversial figure within British politics and journalism. He has been criticised by figures on both the left and the right, who have accused him of elitism, cronyism, dishonesty, laziness, and using racist and homophobic language. Johnson is the subject of several documented biographies and a number of fictionalised portrayals.


2. Mayor of London:


Born in 1964, Johnson served as the second elected mayor of London from 2008 to 2016.


3. He Has American And British Citizenship:

Johnson was born to British parents on 19 June 1964 in Manhattan's Upper East Side in New York City.
His birth was registered with both the U.S authorities and the city's British Consulate thereby granting him both American and British citizenship. His father, Stanley Johnson, was then studying Economics at Columbia University.


4. Worked As A Journalist:

Boris Johnson worked as a journalist briefly working for The Times and later securing employment with The Daily Telegraph


5. Served As An MP:

Boosted by his television fame, at that time; Johnson stood as the Conservative candidate for the constituency in the 2001 general election, winning with a majority of 8,500 votes. He was to represent Henley, a conservative seat in Oxfordshire.


6. Arrived Late Twice To Official Functions During First Week As Mayor:

He received criticism during the early weeks of his administration, largely because he was late for two official functions in his first week on the job, and because after three weeks he went on holiday to Turkey.


7. A Renowned Polyglot


Boris Johnson is a fluent speaker of major language such as French and Italian, and has a good grasp of German, Spanish, and Latin, known to frequently use it in classical references in his newspaper columns and speeches.


8. Married Thrice:


Boris Johnson married three times but is currently with his latest partner and current girlfriend, Carrie Symonds.


9. Compared To Donald Trump:

More recently, Johnson has evoked comparisons with United States President Donald Trump In June 2016, Nick Clegg described him as "like Donald Trump with a thesaurus", while fellow Conservative MP Kenneth Clarke described him as a "nicer Donald Trump" and EU official Martin Selmayr described the potential election of Johnson and Trump to the leadership of their respective countries as a "horror scenario"


10. Awarded For "Worst In British Politics":

In The Economist's 2018 end-of-the-year awards for the worst in British politics, Johnson received the highest award (the "politician who has done most to let down his party and country". The Economist described Johnson as one of the architects of the Brexit "catastrophe"

Sequel to the previous post (which featured here in Nairaland) where we listed out some values that are currently in its all time low with regards to Nigerian women; it became expedient that we list out values which most Nigerian men held in high regard in the past but seems to be dwindling with each passing year.

1. Responsibility:

Statistics reveal that the number of children without someone to call "father" increase by the day. With the ongoing trend of "baby mamas" and "baby daddies", many children do not feel the love of a father, thanks to irresponsibility of many fathers who birth children they can't take care of.


However, some do have fathers who are at home, but without commitment to the future of their children.

2. Contentment:


The holy book says be content with what you have. With the economic crises facing Nigeria, and the massive unemployment already taking its toll, it is no longer strange to see Nigerian men who want to get money by any means necessary. This has damaged the value most Nigerian men had in the past.

The lack of contentment is indeed one of the numerous reasons why crime is on the increase in the country with money made in these proceeds sometimes spent on "strange women"

3. Commitment:


This particular type of commitment is beamed upon relationships that lead to marriage. In time past, Nigerian men showed more commitment to their spouses and wives placing valuable value on what they have. Today however, the blessedness of commitment has been lost to the altar of infidelity.

4. Self Esteem:


Critically take a look at it. It seems as though there were more brave men in the past than we do have now. The value of self esteem hinges on the fact that a man believes in himself to achieve his ambition and diligently walks towards it. A real man is not meant to chicken out of a situation but face it head-on with the aim to conquer.


5. Wisdom:


As time passes, the wisdom of our fathers and grandfathers seems to be passing away with it. The ancient wisdom of the past seems to be lost in today's Nigerian society. We cannot ascertain for sure why this is so, perhaps we could blame modern culture, but it is a value that is gradually fading.
