Have you heard about Canva. Everyone (content devs, programmers, digital marketers alike) who can't handle the photoshop hassle should know that

Your skill set is one that you took time to develop. Even if it took you 30 minutes to come up with the logo( I dont expect this to be true), rate your value and charge accordingly.

Ideally to come up with a logo, you mind mapped, brain stormed, used references and co. So charge well my brother.

One advice. Stop learning coreldraw. Understand design principles and elements. Let wiki and google be your friend. Anybody can open coreldraw.

Take lynda.com and pluralsight.com courses.

So many amateur stuff here. Oga skill up. Dont show silly designs here. Study brand themed visuals from Nigerian brands. abeg

Commonsense for designers. Respect yourselves. Don't engage in design competition. 5 logos by a professional designer will beat 100 logos from 100 amateurs. Do you see the big boys in the Nigeria design industry do this shii...? Dont engage in crowdsourcing. Respect the trade. Your ideas deserve please.

Amateur stuff everywhere. If you don't know the value of what you sell, why give buyers a wrong impression. It's threads like this that give prospects the guts to ask for free work. You took your time to skill up on this shiii and you are singing freeee.


And you the buyer, you simply don't know the value of time if you ask for free work.

It seems a lot of photoshop retouchers and graphic designers are here. I have had some musings over time on the graphic design industry.

-- We should have standards. Know your value. The value of what you do, and charge properly un-apologetically.

-- There's the design software and the design theory. Just as having a stethoscope doesnt make you a doctor, that you have photoshop doesnt make you a designer.

-- Take stock of your weaknesses and strengths. There's so much to making designs than using the softwares - The design discipline is broad. There's Lettering, Branding, Calligraphy, Photography, Photo retouching/Editing, Illustration and so much more. Each of these have their varieties and flavours. At the core of all these is drawing. You have to constantly give yourself to this thing.

-- The design industry is adobe based. Cutoff the crap with corel. Adobe forces you to understand design. Adobe Illustrator is great for complex shape(vector) work. Photoshop has grown beyond what the original model was. It is a full fledged design tool. To replace the original model of a just photo program, Adobe created lightroom.

-- Expose yourself. There's more to using photoshop as a tool (it is not design!) than creating silly music cd covers. I term them as silly because it's now everywhere. study brands like MTN, Zenith bank. See the way the brand themed visuals are made.

-- Never stop learning. Lynda.com and pluralsight.com are responsible for my level of dexterity. You must know that there's work time and there's learning time. Get your shii together on this level. You must keep giving yourself to growth.

-- Follow the right people. Justin Seeley, Von Glitschka, Deke McClleland are great Adobe authors (illustrator and photoshop).Learn the business part of design also. Let there be an end to this mediocre, silly designs everywhere.

If you give the young man microsoft word, he will make the same level of design. It's not about the software. It's about the dexterity (knowledge & creativity)

Well, there 're a good number of skills you can get your hands on, but, in the tech space, Graphics (Mostly UI/UX) and Programming or Web development are the go-to skills.

You can Stick to just Visual/Graphics though, and transition to UI/UX later in the future, that way it's easier.

The last sentence shows you know your onions. I am in that phase too. learning from adobe directly. Good shiiii
