https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjCMOkquU3I While in my meditation mode one early morning during the holidays in my village, I remembered some stories my father told us about our village stream called Iyi-uba when we were young. Among the stories, he told us was on the perceived healing powers of the spring water, and how the villagers were saved from harm and danger during the Nigerian – Biafra war by camping at Iyi-uba all through the war. The thought now came to me to pay a visit to iyi uba and share my experience with you guys. Situated in Obinagu, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, the waterfall is a result of a massive outcrop of rock with water cascading over the top forming a stream. If you love adventure and nature, then this video is definitely for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LwhddeMNI8 The mystique surrounding masquerades is one key African/Igbo cultural component that survived western influence. In Igbo land, it is generally believed that masquerades are spirits which spring from the soil, precisely, ant hills. Though masquerade festival is observed everywhere in Igboland, the celebration and masquerades differ from community to community. Udi (Enugu state) which is where I am from has produced so many great masquerades which have their various functions and prestige within their individual community. Masquerades found in Udi include and not limited to Igaa, Ishi aziza and Inyi-agba-oku. Inyi-agba-oku masquerade is a wise masquerade and is known for “Igbuevu” which means speaking in proverbs and parables (through musical performances), to the awe and applauds from the audience. I hope you will enjoy the video...... Please like and share it if you do. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFLzlyc71DA A video of a Nigerian masquerade attire and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ has gone viral. The man who spoke in Igbo dialect urged passersby to accept Jesus into life. The man caught the attention of everyone in the area with the attire he wore which seemingly contradicts the message he was passing. The Igbo view masquerades as spirits of their dead ancestors. With the advent of Christianity, most Africans with the Igbo inclusive, have dumped their traditional beliefs in masquerades because Christianity says they are idolatry and evil. This is what makes this video funny. For the masquerade is seen singing songs of psalms as well as preaching the word of God to the amusement of passers by. |
