Hadi Sirika, Minister of State Aviation, has reacted to claims that Atiku was searched at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja after he returned from Dubai. In a statement made available to OkayNG.com, The Minister said the claim was false and “mischievous”. In his words; This is a mischievous attempt to grab the headlines. Nigerians need to know that one of the resolutions of the Atiku team at their recently-concluded, opulently-held Dubai retreat was to embark on scaremongering. This is one of such. For the records, all incoming passengers on international flights go through customs, Immìgration, health and security screening. Where the aircraft is using the private, charter wing, as the PDP Candidate did, such arrivals are met by a team of the Immìgration, customs and other security agencies. They go to the arriving aircraft as a team. The airport authorities confirm that this is a routine process, applying to all international arrivals, including the minister unless the passenger is the President of Nigeria. The President, the Vice President and passengers aboard planes on the Presidential air fleet use the Presidential wing of the airport. It is also important to state that even in the Presidential Wing of the airport the President of Nigeria uses, there is the presence of Immìgration and other security officials who must stamp his or her passport on arrival. By standard procedure, all aircraft on international arrivals must first of all park at the international wing of the aircraft. They can move to the domestic terminal only upon the completion of the arrival processes. While it is true that the Task Force on Currency at the airport did the routine action of checking the former Vice President's travel bag, he was accorded full respect as a senior citizen. These checks are mandatory, conventional, internationally applied and routine. No one is excused from them under our laws. These checks are carried out on all international arrivals and President Buhari does not get involved in them. Law-abiding citizens are encouraged to respect the laws of the country and our VIPs should not seek to be treated over and above the citizens they wish to serve. On 27th November 2017, I inaugurated the National Minimum Wage Committee with a mandate to recommend a new minimum wage for the workers of our country. 2. xThis exercise became necessary for many reasons. The last review took place in 2011. We all know since then, the prices of key consumables have increased and the most vulnerable of our workers are struggling to make ends meet. 3. Since 2011, many changes have taken place. Nigeria rebased its GDP to become the largest economy in Africa. We reported very strong GDP growth rates and exceptional performance of our capital markets. However, these reported successes did not flow into the pockets and homes of majority of Nigerians. 4. In the last three years, we focused on correcting this deficiency. We are working to create a diversified and inclusive economy. 5. We are pushing to clear pension arrears owed to our retired workers with the limited resources available to us. 6. We supported State Governments to pay workers salary. And of course, we set up a committee in order to review the minimum wage of workers. 7. In constituting this committee, we took into account the need for all stakeholders to be adequately represented - the government, the private sector and most importantly the workers. Our goal was to get an outcome that was consensual. 8. From the onset, we knew the committee had a difficult task ahead of it. But at the same time, we were also confident that the patriotic and professional background of its members would produce realistic, fair and implementable recommendations that will be considered by both the executive and legislative arms of government. 9. I am not surprised that the committee has worked for close to one year. I am also not surprised that on a few occasions, the debates got heated and sometimes, these differences came out. 10. What is truly inspiring is that, in almost all instances of disagreements, the committee members always came back to the negotiating table with a common goal of improving the welfare of Nigerian workers. On behalf of all Nigerians today, I want to thank you for your commitment and sacrifice in getting us to where we are today. 11. In the past few days, I have been receiving regular updates on your deliberations. And today, I am pleased that you have completed your work in a peaceful and non-confrontational manner. The entire nation is grateful to you all. 12. The Committee Chairman highlighted some of the challenges encountered during your deliberations, especially as it relates to having a consensus position acceptable by all parties. 13. I understand, on the government side, the concerns raised were around affordability - that today many states struggle to meet their existing salary requirements. 14. On the side of labour, the points raised focused on the need for any increase to be meaningful. 15. In a way, both arguments are valid. I want to assure you all that we will immediately put in place the necessary machinery that will close out these open areas. Our plan is to transmit the Executive Bill to the National Assembly for passage within the shortest possible time. 16. I am fully committed to having a new National Minimum Wage Act in the very near future. 17. Let me use this opportunity to recognise the leadership of the organized labour and private sector as well as representatives of State and Federal Governments for all your hard work. The fact that we are here today, is a notable achievement. 18. As the Executive Arm commences its review of your submission, we will continue to engage you all in closing any open areas presented in this report. I therefore would like to ask for your patience and understanding in the coming weeks. 19. May I therefore, employ workers and their leaders not to allow themselves to be used as political weapons. Thank you and may God bless our country. https://www.okayng.com/full-text-buharis-speech-after-he-received-report-on-new-minimum-wage-read/

The Malam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai-led Kaduna State Government has selectively varied the 24-hour curfew declared on Sunday in Kaduna metropolis and other parts of the state with immediate effect. OkayNG.com gathered this following a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council which received reports and deliberated on the security situation in the state. Following the review, the Security Council recommended that the curfew in Kasuwan Magani and Kujama be relaxed so that people can move between 6am – 5pm. “The curfew in Kasuwan Magani and Kujama remains but will now be enforced from dusk to dawn – from 5pm in the evening to 6am in the morning, till further notice. “The State Security Council determined that threats continue in Kabala West, Kabala Doki, Sabon-Tasha, Narayi and Maraban Rido within Kaduna Metropilis where attacks on places of worship were either attempted overnight or contemplated. “Therefore, the Security Council has decided that the 24-hour curfew should remain in these places, and will be vigorously enforced. “Any individual that violates will be arrested, and the security agencies directed to engage any hoodlums or unauthorized groups with appropriate force. “For the rest of Kaduna metropolis, the Security Council has noted an improvement in the security situation, and therefore decided that a window be provided for residents to be able to restock on essentials. “The curfew in the rest of Kaduna Metropolis is relaxed from 1pm to 5pm today to enable all markets, shops and businesses to open and operate. Security agents will patrol and protect the markets to ensure safety and deal with any attempts by hoodlums to engage in criminal conduct. “The 24-hour curfew in Kaduna Metropolis will be re-imposed from 5pm today, and until further notice. “The Security Council regrets the inconvenience to residents. But the obligation to secure lives and property necessitates an uncompromising approach. Government will continue to monitor the situation, and make further announcements based on the guidance of the security agencies,” a statement by the Kaduna state government read. https://www.okayng.com/breaking-el-rufai-varies-24-hour-curfew-in-parts-of-kaduna/ |

https://www.okayng.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Purported-Fayoses-House-OkayNG-1.jpg The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released photos showing properties allegedly owned by the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose. Spokesman for the Commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, sent copies of the pictures to OkayNG.com on Wednesday. According to him, the properties were uncovered while the anti-graft agency was investigating the allegations of corruption against the former governor. He alleged that Mr Fayose purchased the property with the money he purportedly received from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki. “In the course of investigating corruption allegations against ex-governor Ayodele Fayose, especially the N1.3billion which he collected from the office of the National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, the Commission unearthed evidence that he laundered the funds into the acquisition of properties in choice locations in Abuja and Lagos,” Mr Wilson alleged. Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku has welcomed the release of Dapchi school girls who were allegedly abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe. In a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, Atiku said he was gladdened by the return of the girls, adding that some families who had been heartbroken would now have their tears wiped. Atiku, however, said that the grief of parents whose daughters did not return would probably take on a new and more tormenting dimension as they continue to wait and pray for their safe return. Atiku called for a more permanent solution to the problem of kidnapping of girls from schools. He tasked government on redesigning schools to make them more secure from attack, including the addition of safe rooms. “This is a moment of joy for all of us as a nation, we may not all be in Dapchi at the moment, but we are all celebrating with the families, the community and the entire Yobe State. “We cannot continue to allow our daughters to be used as instruments of negotiation, subject to capture and release at the whims of any group. “For the sake of our youth who embody the best of our tomorrow, we must confront this Frankenstein monster. “Working together as a Nation we can and must bring an end to this; not a day must be wasted in finding solutions, we must make it safe so our girls and women in every part of the country can study and flourish in peace,” he said. https://www.okay.ng/atiku-welcomes-release-of-dapchi-girls-abducted-by-boko-haram/

Lalasticlala come see wetin PDP dey talk oh |
https://www.okay.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/PDP-01.jpeg The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammad Buhari to rather use the benefit of his state visit to Ghana to draw lessons from his Ghanian counterpart, President Nana Akufo-Addo on how to run a peaceful, united and economically vibrant nation. The party also criticized the President for offering to assist Ghana in her war against corruption, when his own administration reeks heavily with corruption as evinced by the Transparency International report which exposed the fact that corruption has worsened in Nigeria under his watch. The party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan to Okay.NG, on Wednesday said the President and his handlers should have been embarrassed that while the President of Ghana paraded credentials of a robust economy and a peaceful nation, Nigeria, under the Buhari Presidency is plagued with economic recession and upsurge of violence and daily bloodletting. When President Buhari was reeling out President Akufo-Addo achievements in his one year in office; his ingenious approach to job creation; the farming for job initiative, the senior high school free education, one district-one factory projects and one village-one dam initiatives among others; we hope our dear President reflected on the fact that back home, his inept government had instead, wrecked our once robust economy, the reason he had nothing to present to the world at the ceremony. We hope President Buhari recollects that unlike his Ghanian counterpart, his administration had nothing to show in its first year in office. Our President recalls that under his own watch, over 8 million Nigerians have lost their jobs, 16 million remained unemployed, 18 million more were underemployed while another 27.44 million refused to work for various reasons related to frustrations occasioned by the negative policies of his government. In the same vein, we hope President Buhari notes that unlike his Ghanian counterpart, who initiated development projects and opened factories, in Nigeria under his watch, many factories have shut down, infrastructures are collapsing, inflation has soared, fuel price has moved from N86.50 to N250-N300 per liter in various parts of his country, while the nation’s debt profile has continued to escalate. Furthermore, when President Buhari offered to assist Ghana in her fight against corruption, we hope he remembered that the world already knows that back home, his administration reeks of allegations bordering on corruption in high places and the Transparency International (TI) report has exposed the fact that corruption has worsened in Nigeria under his government. Today, the world knows that what obtains in Nigeria is direct persecution of opposition members under the guise of a fight against corruption, which has been aided by intimidation of the judiciary and incessant harassment of journalists. The PDP therefore urges President Buhari’s handlers to stop embarrassing the nation, especially at the international stage. We know that the Presidency sought to use the Ghana visit to curry international endorsement for their 2019 reelection bid, unfortunately, they reaped a harvest of international embarrassment and ridicule. Finally, we want to urge Mr. President to be wary of turning Nigeria into a joke in the international arena, especially as the world knows what is obtainable in his government. https://www.okay.ng/learn-from-ghanian-president-and-stop-embarrassing-nigeria-pdp-to-buhari/ |
