The Northern Elders Forum has maintained that the North must retain the presidency if Buhari's failing health prevents him from seeking re-election in 2019.
While speaking in an exclusive interview with New Telegraph, the spokesman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi, disclosed that should President Muhammadu Buhari’s failing health prevents him from seeking re-election in 2019, the North must retain the presidency.

The elder statesman stressed that the region must be allowed to field a presidential candidate through the All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2019 should Buhari fail to seek re-election.

He said in the situation of any eventuality, the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo should be allowed to complete the current tenure but will not be allowed to contest in 2019.

Abdullahi said, “The constitutional provision says that in the event that the president dies in office or becomes incapacitated for one reason or the other and cannot perform the duties of his office, he will be succeeded by the Vice president.

“But no one is in a position to know at what point he is going to recover fully and come back to office, or whether the unexpected could happen. The northern elders insist that Osinbajo cannot replace Buhari in 2019

“If the worst case scenario happens, and Buhari is not back on seat, the constitution is very clear that the vice president takes over.

“And what we then expect is that he will take that tenure to its logical end and from there, the politics of power sharing will take precedence over anything else.

“When the unexpected happens, in 2019 we will be back to our position that the north should be treated equitably and fairly. And we expect that another northern candidate will emerge as presidential candidate on the platform of APC.”

Abdullahi lamented that the north is still marginalized in spite of the fact that Buhari is president. “To be fair and truly honest, I will say that yes, our expectations have been far above what we saw on ground. Meaning that what we were expecting from this government in terms of equity and justice to the north has not materialized up till now,” he said.


According to him, the North is still being cheated in spite of the fact that one of its own is president.

“For example, if you look at both the 2016 and 2017 budgets, if you combine capital and recurrent expenditures for both years, the North took roughly 30 per cent in spite of the fact that everybody knows that even if it’s by one per cent, the north is more populated than the South. Even in terms of landmass, the North constitutes 75 per cent of the landmass of this country,” he pointed out.

The NEF spokesman blamed Buhari for giving key ministries in his administration to southerners “who don’t feel shy of looking after themselves first before the North, even if it’s on second thoughts.”

Abdullahi said that some of the projects that should improve the living standard in the North have been abandoned even by this administration.

“Take, for example, the Mambila Power Project, the dredging of River Niger, the Ajaokuta Steel and so on. Of course, you can also blame past northern leaders who were in power when these projects were just brushed

A principal of a certain school in West Africa has been reprimanded by appropriate authorities for abusing his office.

The Principal of E.P College of Education (AMECO) in the Volta Region of Ghana has been suspended for three months for allowing the use of the school bus to carry firewood.
Reverend Sylvanus K. Tettey was suspended following a meeting between him and officials of the Education Ministry on Friday.
The meeting was called after images of the bus loaded with logs went viral on social media platforms last week.
According to JoyOnline, the Eicher Bus with registration number GV 158-16, was one of the 500 buses presented to schools across the country in June 2016 by then President John Dramani Mahama.
But for some reason, the E.P College of Education at Amedzofe in the Volta Region decided to use its bus to carry firewood for use by the school’s pantry.

Tettey’s explanation was unconvincing after he was asked to explain the reason for using the bus in that manner, justifying the sanction on him.

AMECO is a mixed teacher training institution located at Amedzofe in the Ho West Municipality in the Volta Region.

A Norwegian Prince has been pictured breaking protocol as he dabs on the royal balcony during celebrations for the King and Queen’s birthday, Sun UK revealed.

The young Prince Sverre Magnus, 11, briefly stopped waving to the crowds and instead pulled a dance move – causing giggles from his cousins before one knocked him back in line.

His antics endeared him to the people who had gathered as they cheered him on.
The incident took place last night at the balcony of Oslo’s Royal Palace.

The youngster was there among the pomp and ceremony laid on for King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th birthdays. He followed this by pulled silly faces as he amused his cousins while they stood with their grandparents.
His father, Prince Haakon, also appears to be a prankster as he left diners slightly confused at the gala dinner in honour of his parents. During the meal he slipped away to shave off his beard and sat back down clean shaven – apparently as part of the entertainment.

Prince Sverre has been caught on camera pulling faces before as last year he was captured yawning and picking his nose during the Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations in Oslo. And then a month later he was pictured pulling a grumpy face as he sipped juice during his grandparents’ coronation anniversary celebrations.

Sverre is the younger child of Crown Prince Haakon and third in line to succeed his grandfather, King Harald V, who turns 80 this year.

Mr Bagudu Hirse, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who was kidnapped in Kaduna last November, has said that his captors were angry when they confirmed that he had only N20,000 in his account.
Hirse, who recanted his experience with the captors in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Jos, said that the captors confirmed the balance in his account when they checked his phone.

“They went through my bank details and expressed deep disappointment that a former minister and Ambassador had such a little sum in his account.
“That was when they started harassing my wife because they had earlier asked for a ransom of N50 million.

“In fact, when they confirmed the figure, they started doubting if I was the Bagudu Hirse, a former Nigeria envoy to Namibia,” he said.
Hirse said that the kidnappers kept ordering his wife to bring the money that her husband was hiding.

“My wife told them the truth about our financial status, but they were not convinced,” he said.
The former minister, however, confirmed that the captors were “paid something in dollars”, before he was eventually released.
He said that the captors told him that they were graduates who were forced into kidnapping to survive because they were “jobless and frustrated”.
“One said that he graduated from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, six years ago, and had remained without a job, while another said he studied Chemical Engineering and had been jobless for five years,” he said.
Hirse, who said he was “treated very well” by the kidnappers, said that he maintained a cordial relationship with them throughout the period of the captivity.
He advised government to create more jobs, and stressed the need to concentrate on building the private sector.

“If the private sector is supported to be viable, there will be jobs and most of these idle youths will be absorbed,” he said.
NAN reports that eight suspects have been arrested in connection with Hirse’s ordeal.
