The family members of a 21-year-old Ghanaian, Etroo Mensah , are anxious about the whereabouts of their son three months after he was arrested along with some suspected thugs by a police team, which raided Ikota, in the Ajah area of Lagos. Etroo’s mother, Elizabeth Mensah, and his elder brother, Napoleon, had visited all police divisions in the Ajah area for the young man, but were told by the police that Etroo was not in their custody. Punch Metro reports that the fruitless search had thrown the family into panic as the police continued to deny that they arrested Etroo. On Saturday, March 14, at about 6am, Etroo, whose family hails from Elmina, Central Region, Ghana, and lived in Ikota, Ajah, had gone to buy something from a shop on the street. Apolice patrol had raided the street and arrested some street urchins allegedly smoking hemp. Etroo was one of the people arrested along with the suspected hemp smokers. Etroo, who came to Lagos with his brother, Napoleon, in February 2014, had reportedly called his brother on the phone, saying he was being detained at the Ajah Police Division, Ajiwe. The family, on getting to the station, was reportedly told by the police that although there was a police raid on the street, Etroo was not among the suspects arrested. Sadly, the family has not seen or heard from the 21-year-old since that time. Speaking with Punch Metro, 25-year- old Napoleon, who works in a restaurant in Lekki, said the mother was distraught, as the police had refused to open up on the matter. He added that the father, who stays in Takoradi, Ghana, had not been briefed on the matter as the family hoped that Etroo would be found. He said, “I was at work on that Saturday. Etroo had gone to a shop at about 6am. The police came to our area in Ikota, Ajah, and arrested some boys who were smoking hemp. “He was arrested along with the smokers. The moment he got to the police station, he called me on the phone that he had been arrested and was in Ajiwe. I was still speaking with him when I overheard a policeman ordering him to bring the phone. “Both of us had stayed in Lagos for only a year. I was not used to Lagos, so I could not trace him to the police station on the same day. On Sunday, a friend, my mother and I went to the station and we described Etroo to the policemen, requesting to see him. They told us they did not have any Mensah, adding that they had a Mansah in their record, a name used for a lady in our language.” The family was thereafter directed to the Ikoyi Police Division, from where they were redirected to the command headquarters in Ikeja. Napoleon said the family was also asked to go to police divisions in Badagry to inquire about the matter. He noted that since March 14, 2015, the family had not seen or heard from Etroo. He said, “When we got to Ikoyi, we were told that they never saw anyone like my brother. They then asked us to go to Ikeja. It was only my mother who went to Ikeja. From there, the police asked us to go to Badagry which we also did. We gave them his name, his picture and some money. Later, a policeman called us to say they did not find him. “I think if the police arrest someone, they have to let the person get across to his family so that his people can show up to see him. But since March 14, we have not set eyes on Etroo.” Etroo, who completed Junior Secondary School in Ghana before coming to Nigeria, is the fourth of five children. The young man wanted to become a musician. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said the police in Ajah did not have a record of Etroo’s arrest, adding that the family should see the Divisional Police Officer. www.sugardaily.ng/21-year-old-ghanaian-boy-missing-three-months-after-police-raided-a-street-in-ajah/ cc: lalasticlala

Nigerian Professor Produces Antivirt, An Anti Viral Drug For Treating HIV AIDS. Despite doubts in some quarters about the authenticity of his claims, Professor Maduike Ezeibe of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has insisted that his recent therapy for the dreaded HIV and AIDS is real and effective. Lagos the acclaimed ‘Centre of Excellence’, was yesterday crippled by flood resulting from a heavy downpour which began in the early hours of Tuesday and lasted till mid- evening. The heavy flooding which was prevalent in virtually all parts of Lagos, exposed the lack of drainage channels and the dilapidated state of roads in the metropolis. long distances to get to their places of work or business. Some rickety vehicles that dared the floods, got stuck midway. Vanguard Metro, VM, correspondents who went round various parts of the mega-city reported that even the rich also cried, as the highbrow neighbourhoods were not spared from the wrath of the rampaging flood. Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki Peninsula and Ikeja were no-go places as the flood impeded vehicular movement in the areas. If the highbrow areas were ravaged by the floods, residents of the slummy parts of the city are still counting their losses. In these neighbourhoods, the flood threw up heaps of refuse which blocked the drainage outlets. Some of the smelly refuse which were bagged and pure water sachets, floated uncontrollably as helpless residents waded through them to navigate to their destinations. At the ever commercially- busy Ikotun Bus Stop in the Igando/Ikotun, LCDA, the massive floods which swept through the area, very close to the Alimosho Local Government secretariat, disrupted both vehicular and pedestrian movements. Virtually all the roads in Coker Village and Amukoko were also heavily flooded. The worst affected was the road that links Opere Street through Alafia Bus-stop. VM learnt that some residents of the area were forced to remain indoors while children who managed to go to school, were trapped in their various schools because the roads had been taken over by the scary floods. The Apapa-Oshodi expressway which links the Apapa and Tin Can Ports, the two major seaports in Nigeria, and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, was on lock down as a result of the chaotic traffic jam along the ever-busy dual carriageway. Commuters were trapped in the traffic web, thereby creating an opportunity for commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders to exploit the stranded commuters. Those who could afford their charges, went on motor bikes to access their business spots. Such passengers paid between N500 and N1000 for a distance which ordinarily should not cost more than N100 or N150. At the Rainbow Bus-stop end of the Oshodi Apapa expressway, the traffic, stretched beyond Sanya and to Ijesha Bus-stop. The stories were the same at Badagry, Ikorodu, Alimosho, Iyana-Iba and Sango Ota. Reports from other parts of the metropolis revealed that major roads in Agege, Ikeja, Agbado- Ijaye, Oshodi, Mushin, Ajegunle, Festac, Amuwo, Satellite, Badagry, etc, were also flooded, even as some vehicles were submerged by water. Residents of Agbado-Okearo said commercial drivers charged exorbitant fares because several vehicles could not ply the route. Some workers who arrived their places of work before the rain, said they were forced to stay extra hours in their offices to avoid being held up in the gridlock. Commuters were stranded for hours at Mile Two- Badagry road as the gridlock stretched from Alabarago to Alakija. Many of the stranded passengers had no alternative than to patronise motorcyclists. A resident of Iyana-Iba who works in Apapa said he went to Seme in the morning while the rain was drizzling. He told VM that he was overwhelmed on getting to Iyana-Iba as flood had almost taken over the entire area. ‘’I don’t usually patronise motorcyclists but I could not help the situation today (yesterday). Madam Buki Oyerinde who lives at Sango-Ota but works in Agege, said she could not return to her abode at the close of work because she was not sure of arriving home before midnight. www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Flood-at-toyin-bus-stop-lag.jpg cc:lalasticlala

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, says he will retire from the Super Eagles after the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017. He said he had been on the scene since 2002, adding that there was every reason for him to give way for others to take over. Interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday, Enyeama, who is also the Super Eagles captain, explained that the desire to give younger goalkeepers the opportunity to develop themselves informed his decision to retire from the national team. “I can’t keep doing the same thing forever; there is going to be a time I have to stop and give it up to some other persons. “I am the only face here since 2002, but 2017 Nations Cup finals will be my last game. I just said my target, anything can happen after,” he added. The Eagles goal tender explained that the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, prevented him from retiring from the team after it failed to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Enyeama told the NAN that his wife and pastor also prevailed on him to drop the plan. The Lille of France safe hands said, “I actually wanted to stop, it wasn’t a rumour. Nigeria is blessed with great goalkeepers, just that we need to give them confidence. “Nobody gave me a chance when I started, I was a rookie also; I belt it up, I worked hard for it and became the big person that nobody wants to lose. “What changed my mind was the passion of Nigerians. I had a lot of calls, my governor, Akpabio. “A lot of people talked with me. These things, you don’t just ignore and my wife also talked with me. “My wife didn’t want me to leave yet. I talked with my pastor and he said if everybody said stay, why not. So, I decided to continue, but then, there is going to be a time to call it quits.” www.punchng.com/news/ill-quit-eagles-after-afcon-2017-says-enyeama/ www.m.bbc.com/sport/football/33057856 cc:lalasticlala

A France-based Ghanaian group, Los Grumos, is itching for the spotlight with an outrageous claim: that they are better than Nigeria’s P-Square. They are also a set of twins, named Rey (born Panyin Yaw Amponsah) and Ro (born Kakra Yaw Amponsah). Though relatively unknown, the twins are said to write and perform songs and are not constricted within any certain genre. Now, they are out to ‘dethrone’ Africa’s most famous twins, P- Square. In an interview with Ghanaian blog Myjoyonline, Rey and Ro are quoted to have said: “What makes us bigger than P- Square is that we are big in Europe. Our music cuts across the European market, our band also cuts across the USA market. Our music is big just that we are not more focused in Africa that’s why we promoting our new single ‘Adjoa’ for all Africans to know we are the best across the globe and also make Africans proud (sic).” . “We have performed on almost all the biggest shows in Europe. That makes us different from P-Square and also bigger than them.” Meanwhile, P-Square’s Peter and Paul have just returned from Morocco where they headlined the massive 2015 Mawazine Music Festival alongside Jennifer Lopez, Pharrell Williams, Sean Paul and others. Los Grumos, who were born in France, reportedly started recording in 2006 and have over 40 songs under their belt. Now they are promoting their new single, ‘Adjoa’, which is a “tasteful mixture of Afrobeat and hiphop style that reflects our African and French backgrounds.” P-Square is yet to respond to the ‘challenge.’. www.lailasblog.com/2015/06/this-ghanian-twin-insist-they-are.html?m=1 cc: lalasticlala
