Let get things straight. Yes the smartest thing to do there is to sheild the ball for Kepa but he might not have been aware that there was no danger at his back as seen from how he quickly try to clear the ball away from the area.

This kind of scenario happens very well in football that doesn't even result to goal in 99.9% of the time so why are we so particular about this one when it's such a rare occurrence.


What happened there was not any players fault. I will be the first person to call out a player when he is not dutiful in his duty but this one here is a non-starter.

The easiest and obvious thing is the number 1. Any other option means he didn't trust the keeper at all.

Man had to literally dribble Kepa just so he couldn't catch it, then his option is to clear it and not even as far away as possible. And Popi thought that's the best option.
