Politics / We Will Ensure Strict Enforcement Of Cattle Grazing Law - Ortom by FCTumunze: 9:27pm On Jun 26, 2016
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has reaffirmed the resolve of his administration to ensure strict enforcement of the state Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law when the bill is passed by the State House of Assembly.
Governor Ortom gave the assurance today at the thanksgiving service in honour of the member representing Buruku State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Ngunan Addingi which took place at Kusuv Community Secondary School, Buruku.
He said the decision of the State Government to enact a law to prohibit open grazing of cattle was borne out of the commitment of his administration to end frequent invasion of the state by herdsmen which leaves scores of people dead.
Governor Ortom said agriculture remains the biggest industry in the state and the available land could not accommodate farming and cattle grazing at the same time.
He expressed optimism that though things are difficult at the moment, when the people invest more in agriculture and trust in God, the current situation will become a thing of the past.
The Governor commended Hon. Mrs. Addingi as a reliable representative of the people and urged her to continue doing the things that could uplift the state.
Earlier, Hon. Addingi thanked God for elevating her to the current position she occupies and pledged to maintain the attributes that earned her the trust of the people of Buruku.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker and members of the Benue State House of Assembly, Leader of the House, Hon. Benjamin Adanyi said the cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive arms of government in the state will continue to yield positive results.
Other speakers included Ter Buruku, Chief David Afatyo, Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Hon. Sekav Iyortyom and former Vice Chancellor, Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi, Professor Paul Akase Sorkaa who lauded the achievements recorded by Governor Ortom within just a year. Prof. Sorkaa pointed out that the Governor had introduced fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in governance, a step he said would make Benue a better place.

Suspected Fulani Militants kill over 30 people With Nigeria DPO, razes down four villages in Adamawa

A group of Fulani militants numbering in hundreds overran the villages of Koh, Ndikajam, Tabongo and Jat of Girei Local government Area of Adamawa state.
The attacks were reported to have killed over 30 people killed including a Divisional Police Officer(DPO) incharge of Vunokilang Police Station in Girei Local Government Area Adamawa state who were alleged brutally killed in an early morning attack by suspected Fulani Militants.
Confirming the killings, spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar said the DPO and his team were attacked while on official duty in the affected villages where he was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Abubakar added that report at his disposal indicated that the attackers looted, maimained the food stuff and livestocks of the villagers before setting the villages blazed
“The suspected Fulani attackers raided four villages in Girei local Government area on Sunday morning around 5:30 am killing scores including the late DPO”. Abubakar said
The DPO, late CSP Okozie Okereofor, who was just two months old in the command was said to be ambushed when he was leading his men to the disputed area and he eventually lost his life in a shot out with the attackers.
The corpse of the slain Police Officer and remaining civilians are currently deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.
The source said, prior the attack, there has been a lingering crisis between some Fulani Herdsmen and farmers in the areas which he believed must have influence the attack.
He said there has been a lingering threats on the communities razed down by Herdsmen who were alleged wrote letters to these communities that they were going to lunch an attack on them.
However the elders of the areas have said to had reported the matter to the security agencies in the state about two weeks ago so that something be done to avert the attack.
One of the Elders of the affected areas , PP Elisha, said if the security agencies had acted swiftly as earlier alerted by the elders that there may be an attack, they could have stop the attacked.
However, he said they thank God that the military have sent their men to chase out the Herdsmen's machineries adding that several people have been killed while five villages were burnt down by the Herdsmen.
Elisha who visited some injured victims of the attack who were immediately evacuated to Specialist Hospital and Federal Medical Centre in Yola, by relatives lamented that presently there are serious pandemonium in the affected areas adding that many people in the affected areas including areas that were not attacked have flee their homes for fear of future attacks.
However an eyewitness had earlier told our correspondent that it was Boko Haram insurgents that attacked the five villages at 7:30 am of Sunday (today) morning due to the nature of the attack which he alleged similar to Boko Haram mode of operations or attacks.
The eyewitness claimed that many people were killed and injured in the attack, however he could not give the exert figure of casualty.
He said soldiers sent on immediate spot assessment were wounded and chased backward by the attackers.
The eyewitness also alleged that the attackers have kidnapped the DPO of Vinikilang adding that a Hilux van full with cattles and food items belonging to the attackers was captured by the natives of the area.
While another eyewitness who simply identified himself as Haruna said he can swear with his life that the attackers were members of Boko Haram adding that he was sure that the Herdsmen may have drafted the members of Boko Haram to help them to fight the natives of the affected communities.
"l narrowly escape from the hands of the attackers" he said
When asked whether the attackers were herdsmen or Boko Haram, he said "we have been living together with these Fulanies, and we know them but the people that attacked us were strangers, I believed that the Fulanies in our area drafted some strangers which we believe are members of Boko Haram because we have been having unresolved problems with them which had led to the death of some people in the past "he said .
The Acting Brigade commander of the 23 Amoured Brigade in Yola, Col ABA Popoola confirmed the attack that resulted to the killing of several people and razing down of five villages.
He said everything was under control as he said he has deployed his men to areas to cordon the area.
Popoola said the fight was between the herdsmen and farmers in the affected areas but did not revealed whether some of his men were wounded.
Checks revealed that the attackers have been repelled by the military and most of them have escaped into near by bush some kilometers to Sambisa forest.

Politics / Love Saga: Governor Yari Speaks On Affair With Zarah Buhari by FCTumunze: 8:30pm On Jan 20, 2016
Following speculation that he is romantically involved with one of President Buhari’s daughters, Governor Abdulazeez Yari of Zamafara state has denied the claims, describing them as false and unfounded.
According to The Nigerian Tribune, Governor, Abdulazeez Yari, denied reports that he is romantically involved with Zahra Buhari.
The governor also faulted media reports that he gave the president’s daughter $200 million as gift and that he divorced one of his wives, Hadiza Umaru Shinkafi, to accommodate Zahra.

Yari’s counter-claims were contained in his letters to the publishers who wrote the detracting stories about him and the president’s daughter. He accused them of painting him in a bad light and requested that they retract their defamatory publications.

The letters, dated 18 and 19 January, were written for the governor by his lawyer, Mahmud Magaji (SAN). In the letter, Yari threatened to sue the publications for defamation, adding that he would demand N100 billion (in the case of the first publication) and N10 billion (against the second publication) should they fail to retract the publication and tender apologies within seven days.
“The above publication, no doubt, is false and defamatory, and it is intended to bring the reputation of our client to ridicule and cause odium or malignity to our client.
“Since the above publication, our client has received countless phone calls and text messages from family, friends, colleagues and associates, who incessantly call to enquire about the said publication.
“Consequent upon the above, it is our client’s instruction that we demand from you published retraction of the said defamatory piece in three national newspapers inclusive of your own.” Yari said.
It would be recalled that this would not be a first time in which a governor is speculated to be romantically linked with Buhari’s beautiful daughter.

In 2015, the dame was alleged to be having an affair with Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state. The rumours regarding the duos love relationship and plans of marriage stirred an uproar on social-media.

A baby girl, dressed and abandoned by her mother in a biscuit carton near Eco Bank, along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, died after hours of battling for survival.

The baby, who was said to have been abandoned by her mother at about 11:30pm on Friday, died around 11:58am on Saturday after many hours of crying for help.

A resident of the area, Mr. Okon Isaac, told our correspondent that the baby became pale after a long period of crying for her mum’s comfort before passing out.

Isaac said he wanted to check if Total Filling Station along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo had begun to sell fuel when he heard a baby cry near the refuse bin, dressed neatly and dumped in the biscuit carton.

According to him, he was perplexed and had to suspend buying fuel and kept watch over the baby since 5:47am thinking that the mother might change her mind and come back for the baby.

He stated that the baby’s cry from the carton drew the attention of a large number of people.

Isaac added that people were scared to touch the baby to avoid being accused by the police of trying to steal or kidnap the baby.

“I have been here since 5:47am. I wanted to buy fuel from Total, which only sells the product when available between the hours of 4 and 6:20am. After this time, they stop selling pretending not to have the product.

Thanks Nairalanders,
I have been using nairaland forum for like 2 years now, just like a guest and not as a registered member , but yesterday something came up that made me to sign up this morning so that i can tell my own part of the story about vivian gist and her dead sister.
Some people came up with some threads that Nkiru is not a sister to Vivian , dear i have been hearing about Vivian Gist and also Reading her Blog Daily not knowing she is my lodge mate in school , she is a student of Federal College of Education Umunze Anambra state and Studying Library and Information Science , we all live in the same lodge up-till now. the Girl in question is her sister , and indeed her blood sister , the question people were asking about the differ-ency surnames is what i will explain , because i know Vivian more than anybody on nairaland although , i never call her Vivian what i use her for is Zikora best known name to me , Dear reader, .... Zikora (Vivian) and Nkiru's Mother is from the same parents , so i can see what is wrong with her referring to Dead Nkiru as a blood sister since the same blood flows through their mothers vain.

What am trying to explain more better is that the girl in question the died is never a protester , i saw her name on naij.com , vanguard and many other official websites as one of the protesters , which i know she is not one of them.

R.I.P Nkiru

Below pictures is Vivian .... so people that do misplace her picture with her dead sister should please stop that and remove it please , lets just stop on only one person , Vivian is alive and fine

Thanks ... Reporting Unbehalf of Federal College of Education Technical Umunze , Anambra State
