A match between Nigeria and Argentina is being investigated by Fifa after unusual betting patterns suggested it had been targeted by match-fixers. "Fifa can confirm that this match between Nigeria and Argentina was one that we had an active interest in and forms part of a wider Fifa investigation," a spokesman for the world governing body told the Daily Telegraph. Concerns were raised about betting patterns during Wednesday's game, which was won 4-1 by Nigeria in Abuja, specifically before the final goal was scored. With Nigeria 4-o ahead there was a huge swing on some in-play markets which appeared to anticipate a fifth goal. Five minutes of stoppage time were awarded but play continued beyond that and the referee awarded a 98th-minute penalty to Argentina for handball. Replays suggest the penalty was awarded after the ball bounced up off the lower leg of a Nigeria defender. The referee indicated that he adjudged the ball to have struck a hand. Mauro Boselli scored from the spot. "There had been some crazy moves on the in-running market early in the game," Matthew Benham of SmartOdds, an online betting firm, said. "With 86 minutes played the odds for 4.50 [a fifth goal to be scored] were absolutely insane. The market was effectively saying it was odds against that there would be no more goals. It is hard to get an exact figure for how much would have been bet to force that kind of swing but we are certainly talking hundreds of thousands, possibly more than £1,000,000." Six players from Premier League clubs were involved in the fixture an understrength Argentina were captained by Manchester City's Pablo Zabaleta. Chelsea's Mikel John Obi and Everton's Victor Anichebe were also part of the Nigeria squad. Boselli (Wigan Athletic), Mauro Formica (Blackburn Rovers) and Damián Martínez (Arsenal) were in the Argentina squad. No players are thought to be under suspicion. Fifa Fifa confirmed that it "will be working closely with colleagues at the Fifa Early Warning System" to see the unusual fluctuations in betting patterns and how they tally with its wider investigation. "Fifa is receiving lots of information and co-operation across Europe, Asia, Africa and South and Central America, and as an organisation we are committed to tackling this problem in the most vigorous way possible," a spokesman said. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/04/nigeria-argentina-fifa-betting-patterns |

Hello Good People, Please, I am conducting an independent research on the operations and use of ATMs from the consumer angle and I am seeking informed answers to the following questions: 1. How much is the required minimum balance that should be left in a user's account? 2. How much is the least withdraw-able denomination/amount? 3. How long does it take to resolve a user's ATM related complaint? 4. What is the most common ATM complaint/dispute? 5. Which bank(s) offer the best/worst ATM experience? To all responders, Please, I will appreciate responses that are detailed with clear references to the specific bank(s) that you are commenting on. I am also requesting the same info from relevant quarters in the banks themselves but like I said, this is from a consumer perspective, which is why I am trying to get your valuable inputs too. Thank you very much. |
Hello people, abeg, am trying to get in touch with the Nigerian comedian Ali Baba and Banky-W. Please anybody know how I can reach these two, office contact, phone, etc. Am representing some investors that are organizing an upcoming international show. Will appreciate any valuable info. Thanks |
Dear "Average Lagos Worker", TRANSPORTATION: if in the "not so urban" Local Councils, any Okada you give #500 per hour will thank you, so 4 okadas to convey u, ur wifey and 2 witnesses to the registry = #2000. But in the urban Councils u will not need to pay per hour. u will always find another okada after the registry ceremony. cost of 4 okadas (assuming u no wan "lap" #200 each =#800.Ceremony: Suits and gowns are not mandatory for registry weddings. any of ur "Church" clothes will do. Refreshment: You should have food in the house. If not, she should demonstrate her "wifeability" by making you a good pot of soup or Rice with #2K (as per wedding day o!) when you guys come back home. What else? Ok, Budget #2k for the registry officials (you may also need to photocopy the certificate). Total (assuming worst case scenario) =2K Okada+2K Soup+2K Miscellaneous =6K. NB: Anybody that comes to your "wedding" should bring you gift no vice versa! *scratches head* Now, go ask anybody, which is more valid: the jamboree that you will get onto debt for so that you will have a "talk of the town" wedding; or just going to the registry and doing your thing, after which if God blesses you later in Life, you can take her to Disney or Monte Carlo and re-enact a fairy tale wedding for her? "Average Lagos worker" If wedding matter don worry you sotaay u post am for NL, na fraud or kidnapping dey drag you so o! Shut that OVATION magazine and get back to work! ![]() |
