Reality struck hard after my father’s passing, thrusting responsibilities onto my shoulders as the eldest and only son. The figures I once looked up to on my journey to manhood now depend on me, despite my youth.

I made promises to my mother and siblings, vowing not to let them down and to fulfill the roles my father would have. Naive and full of good intentions, I made these promises without realizing that life often tests us without providing any prior preparation.

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years, yet little changed. Apart from my physical growth, the promises I made remained unfulfilled. I provided my siblings with hope, trying to fill the void left by our father, but slowly their faith in me waned. Often, I appeared more in need of assistance than they did.

Yes, before the days of Jay-Jay Okocha, there was a playmaker in the Nigerian team who was a great dribbler and was even nicknamed “The African Maradona”. His name, Etim Esin.

Who is Etim, how special was he, what did he do, and how did he lose it all?

It was 1987 and the Nigerian U-20 team were in camp around Surulere, preparing to leave the country in a few days for the World Cup in Chile.

Etim Esin was the star boy of the team, a supremely gifted player who had something extra each time he was on the ball.

Former Super Eagles striker Charles Okonkwo once said Etim Esin was one of the few players who would effortlessly make the Nigerian team of any generation.

Even the late Stephen Keshi, also had this to say about him:

“We had Etim Esin and relied so much on him. The team was built around him because he had so much skill and had so much to offer. So we said this is our “Diego Maradona” in Nigeria because he can do anything with the ball. It was like he was born with the ball.”

The U-20 team were under strict instructions not to leave camp, but Etim Esin couldn’t resist the lure of Lagos nightlife. He broke out of camp with 2 other players to visit a nightclub

How I wish we didn’t let our emotions guide us during the build-up to Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, maybe we would have listened to spiritual guidance as we used to previously.

The election for many of us was like a war, we fought forces and defeated them but little did we know that sooner, those we defeated would be given the opportunity to laugh at us. Victory has never been so disastrous like this.

In our efforts to deliver the presidential election for APC candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we stepped on toes, we abused people, we destroyed relationships, and we broke ties not because of political affiliations but based on our feelings. We felt the country needed someone like Tinubu, we needed a savior and out of our love for the nation, we totally delivered but our nation doesn’t seem to have gotten deliverance; things have become worse than ever in barely five months of another APC government.

Ecobank has once again, raised alarm on the dangers of SIM swap fraud, stressing that that fraudsters could use it to impersonate them. In a message to customers via email, the bank explained that SIM swap fraud occurs when scammers use your phone number to access your accounts. According to the bank, “Scammers impersonate you and trick your mobile phone’s carrier into activating a SIM card, which gives them control over your phone number. It means scammers could potentially enter your username and password when logging onto your online banking platform and then receive the SMS verification code to access your account.

“Protect yourself against SIM swaps, don’t share personal information that fraudsters could use to impersonate you (such as your mother’s maiden name or birthplace) on social media. Never reveal your logins and passwords for your mobile phone, online bank, or credit card accounts to anyone. Please always report any suspicious activity”.

Further, the Pan African bank reminded the customers that the bank will not ask them to provide their personal or financial information, stressing that when they receive an email that includes a link to a website, they should ensure that the website is legitimate before visiting the site.

Ecobank further, urged customers not to respond to emails, SMS and unsolicited calls from people they don’t know asking for your personal or banking information.

I am wondering why these came to me.I mean,it could have been one of them but one isn’t complete without the other.
If you are hoping on something,you need to have the faith that it would come through and you need to believe and be hopeful at the same time.

Making a reference to the Good Book in Hebrew 11:1, it says that, ‘Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

In my own understanding, Faith is a complete trust or confidence in someone or something not seen. Faith is like taking a step into the unknown with the believe that maybe or just maybe what you seek might come to fruition.

However, Hope is to want something to happen,with a sense of expectation that it might happen or put simply, Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. I pratically had to develop an optimistic state of mind because at some point I lost all hope but I had to hang on the thread of the little believe in me and then pushed it up to that optimistic state of mind that I really needed. Which is Hope.

This is a topic I can relate to because I hinged my hope on God ,had faith that everything was going be fine and here I am today sharing my testimony and it goes thus;

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today arrested a driver of a painted Volkswagen 'T4' commercial bus (LSR 966 YE) for stabbing a Lastma Officers after being apprehended for serious traffic obstruction around costain round-about, Lagos.

Lastma Officer Olajide Olukoga 'Bravo' who led the enforcement team disclosed that the Volkswagen commercial 'T4' bus was apprehended for picking passengers on main expressway thereby causing serious traffic obstructions to other road users around costain inward Iponrin.

He disclosed further that the enforcement operations was carried out around costain round-about inward Iponrin after several warning by the government to commercial bus/private car drivers to make use of designated bus-stops before picking or dropping passengers/friends across the State.

"Our enforcement team had successful apprehended the driver despite dangerous driving attempts to escape before he brought out knife and stabbed me"

After his arrest, dangerous weapons 'cutlass and knife' was recovered inside his commercial Volkswagen 'T4' bus by security officers.

How Primate Ayodele Helped Plateau Governor, Caleb Mutfwang Win Election Tribunal (VIDEO)

The Plateau state governorship election tribunal has affirmed the candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Caleb Mutfwang as the duly elected governor of the state but it didn’t come like a walk in the park.

Since the tribunal started sitting in the state, there seems to be a wave of sacks among PDP lawmakers as the court sacked seven of them for party structure issues and declared APC candidates that came second as rightful winners of the elections.

Many had expected that Caleb Mutfwang would be sacked by the court too due to the party structure issues that led to the sack of other PDP candidates but miraculously, he survived the heat.

This only means that the governor stayed on alert and did the needful to retain his seat as the duly elected governor of Plateau state. He could have been easily swept away by the raging wave of sack in the state but luckily, he was able to scale through.

All of these from the lawmakers’ election tribunal up to the governorship election tribunal confirm the prophetic warning of Primate Ayodele to PDP candidates in Plateau which he shared immediately after the elections.

Kano state incumbent governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has become the first elected governor to be sacked by the election tribunal. He was removed this afternoon by the court and his certificate of return has also been withdrawn.

The court declared the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Nasir Gawuna as the duly elected governor of Kano state.

This has fulfilled the prophecy of Nigerian prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele which he shared regarding the fate of governors and other elected political officers in the 2023 elections.

Primate Ayodele had said immediately after the election that not all those who were elected will finish their tenure. He mentioned that some governors, senators, lawmakers at the state and national level will not be able to finish their tenure.

As he said it, for the past few weeks now, more than 15 lawmakers have been sacked and the latest development in Kano has further authenticated the prophecy .

Ecobank Nigeria is offering special loan packages for parents and guardians to enable them pay school fees for their children and wards ahead of resumption for the 2023/2024 school year. In another master stroke, the bank is making special infrastructure loans available to educational institutions. This, according to the bank, will equip them adequately for the new session. The bank also said it has optimised its digital platforms to make them convenient for school fees and other education-related payments.

Announcing the various ‘back to school’ initiatives of the bank in Lagos, Head, Consumer Banking, Korede Demola-Adeniyi, said it is in line with the bank’s overall strategy to support the development of the nation’s education sector, adding that Ecobank’s digital offerings are targeted at reducing the financial burden on parents, students and schools, and also facilitating the ease of payment of fees without hassles. She listed the digital offerings to include Ecobank Mobile App, EcobankPay and Ecobank Online for contactless fees payment; personal loans and salary advance packages at competitive interest rates, international transfers for offshore school fees payment and affordable remittance offerings. She also noted that families abroad who wish to send money home to help with fees can do so at zero charges on the Rapidtransfer app.

Some of the biggest banks on the continent to digitize and utilize the latest technology. According to McKinsey, cash is still used in more than 90% of all transactions in Africa. One of the key reasons for this is access to smartphones.


Sim Tshabalala, the CEO of South Africa’s largest bank Standard Bank Group speaks about this issue and how it is changing, “Progress is continuing with more internet connectivity, more fibre being rolled out by the cell phone companies on the African continent. The consequence of that is that the African continent is in a position to leapfrog. And banks operating on the continent are using that capability and that connectivity to meet the needs of their clients, to pay, to move money around, to invest, and indeed to create wealth and pass it on to future generations. So, to put it differently, now is a time that is most exciting for the banking industry.”


African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is opening new opportunities for businesses and individuals across the continent. Tshabalala explains, “The African Continental Free Trade Area is going to be a game changer for our continent. Firstly, it’s going to reduce poverty. It’s going to increase incomes, it’s going to increase the ability of people, ideas, knowledge, and capital to move between countries, and therefore it’s going to increase economic activity.”

CNN’s African Voices Changemakers sees how top African recording artists are going beyond borders

In the latest episode of African Voices Changemakers, CNN’s Larry Madowo meets Nigerian stars Fireboy DML and BNXN, and Ghana’s Black Sherif as they prepare to perform at the Afro Nation Miami 2023 music festival.


First up Fireboy DML, whose rise in the music scene began with the release of his debut album in late 2019. He tells Madowo, “I wouldn’t call myself an Afrobeat artist to be honest. I’m just an artist from Africa. I make pop, I make R&B. In fact, most of my songs have a lot of R&B and soul influences and pop too.”

Now, after three studio albums, he can reflect on his evolution as an artist. “The first album was young, naïve, inexperienced, a young boy who experienced a few women. […] Next album, a bit reflective. I was introduced into the world of fame, and I realised that, yo, this is crazy, I need to relax. So, I got reflective, and I made an album out of that. Third album I’m out there in the world, my music is taking me places.


”Fireboy got his break signing to the YBNL Nation label in 2018 when his mentor and one of his biggest supporters came into the fold. He tells Madowo that when he met with Olamide, he was “pretty much a complete artist” who was just looking for a platform and a guide. Olamide, Fireboy DML says, never restricted him and instead allowed him to let him be himself.

Under Olamide’s wing, Fireboy has produced his biggest hits. Collabs such as ‘Peru’ with Ed Sheeran, have helped expand his global audience. He has also collaborated with Chris Brown and 21 Savage, “The reason why these artists want to work with you is because of your sound.[…] So for me, it really is about maintaining that originality.” Fireboy says that originality and staying true to himself will spark his next source of inspiration, adding: “I’m looking forward to getting heartbroken, so I can make a proper heartbreak album.”

Born in Konongo, Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, better known as Black Sherif, began his rise in the Ghanaian drill scene about 4 years ago. Growing up with several interests, including football, Black Sherif dreamed of stepping on the big stage since high school, “My mom and dad LOVE music […]. That built my interest in music, my taste and stuff. So, it was very indigenous music and reggae.”


His first album did not include any features, except for a collaboration with Burna Boy. He explains that decision, “I had a lot to talk about and felt like that capacity, that space I had in my mind for that album to occupy. I could occupy it myself […] and I did it.”

The Imo Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the November Governorship election, Sir Tony Ejiogu, flagged off his campaign recently.

2. Uproot Poverty, Boost IGR By 50% In 36 Months. Tony Ejiogu also promised to take a multi-pronged approach to poverty alleviation in the State.The first is by creating a conducive environment for private enterprises to thrive and become the engine of growth for the economy through job creation.

This particular measure, he said, is capable of driving up the State’s internally generated revenue by over 50% within 36 months of his government.The second is by creating a knowledge-based economy where Imo youths inclined in the IT sector will be empowered with the right skill set and exposed to the global tech and digital marketplace for foreign exchange earnings.

He also promised that his support will support all those who choose trade and other forms of entrepreneurship shall be supported in their various businesses with soft loans and entrepreneurial mentorship

……Truck driver died instantly at accident scene.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today rescued a motor boy trapped under a fully loaded 40ft container while the driver died instantly during a fatal accident today around Wharf Road, opposite Area B Police Command outward Apapa.area of Lagos.

Lastma Egbetola Sulaiman ‘Zebra 36’ (Apapa) who led the rescue team confirmed that the fatal accident involved a fully loaded 40ft container and a stationed tipper truck with no registration no.

Lastma Egbetola confirmed further that prilimnary investigation revealed that the driver of the 40ft loaded container while on top speed lost control and rammed into another stationed tipper truck with tyre problem.

He disclosed that Lastma Officials and other emergency responders were able to rescued a trapped motor boy while the driver of the loaded 40ft container died instantly.

“While the body of the dead driver was at the Area B Police Command, the rescued motor boy was immediately rushed to nearby General Hospital at Apapa for medical treatment.

Other emergency responders at the accident scene includes Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Police, Nigerian Port Authority (NPA).

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bolaji Oreagba however warned truck drivers to always consider other road users and be very careful when driving during day time and night.
