Science/TechnologyRe: All your Inverter problems by feflo: 9:43am On Dec 13, 2013
Joeadamxx: Good day Sunny,

Thanks for your offer to help solve inverter problems.
Until recently, I was using the Sukam 10KVA 15 batteries(200ah) inverter. Unfortunately, the batteries only lasted about a year before they all ran down.
I made enquiries and was told that the best and longest lasting batteries are the ones with the higher amps/hr. So, I sold my inverter and batteries for cheap and bought a new system based on the cyberpower 7.5kva - 48v. I bought 2vx24 batteries (600ah), but I have been having problems since then. As the inverter seems not to be capable of coping with the batteries, even after buying 2 50ah battery chargers. As the inverter always trip off on overheating between 35 - 47 degrees.

I have been going back and forth with cyberpower and the supplier and now the temperature is normal at about 35 deg, but it always trip off anytime I am on either NEPA or generator. Sometimes it trips off 10 times within an hour.

I suspect that there is a current leakage from the items not connected to the inverter when switched on, especially iron, microwave and water heater.

What do you think please? You can reach me on joeadamxx@gmail.com

Best Regards,

Joe
Your problem is a little complex and it could be one of four things

1. It could be the DC connection issue i.e the way the batteries are connected to achieve the 48VDC, connecting 24pcs. of 2V, 600AH batteries could be a little tricky even for experts. I would prefer it to be connected in two strings of 24VDC each. What i mean is connecting 12pcs in series to get 24VDC, same for the remaining 12pcs. and the two strings are connected in series to get 48VDC.

2. It could be wiring issue like you mentioned

3. The two external chargers could also be the problem. Are the chargers up to 48v, or are the 12V/24V chargers, we need to check how this are connected to the batteries.

4. Your inverter could also be the culprit here.

Most importantly, if you reside in Lagos, i could spare time to have a look to really understand where exactly the problem is, you can reach me on 08023662352.

feflo: Gel batteries are great, they have a longer service life, both under float and cycling conditions. The gelled electrolyte won't spill, even if the battery is tipped upside down or cracked open. You won't have to worry about any messy acid spills or corrosion around the batteries or any of your sensitive electronics. Gel batteries boast greater resistance to extreme temperatures, shock, and vibration.

My inverters are modified sine wave.

Thanks for your interest.

ceejay80s: how long wil 100ah last only on lcd tv. Tell me the truth
I've never used the 100ah on a single lcd and you did not state the power rating of the TV in amps or watts and also the screen size of the TV. From experience, i think a 200ah battery should power it for about 8hrs. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks so much for your enquiry. I'll recommend you buy the 3000W power inverter with four fairly new deep cycle batteries and if money is not an issue, you can go for new batteries. To rightly size your solar panel power needs, i will need to know the exact power rating of each of the equipment mentioned above.

3.75KVA inverter in action. The 780W solar panel on the roof provides charging current to the battery bank. Though the system is designed to charge with Phcn or gen but none is available presently and the solar has not disappointed for a day.

Yes that will be no problem, i did that with another nairalander that resides in EPE, once you buy, we will do the rest on phone, i mean the installation but if you're doing it yourself you must know the basic principles of Electrical Installation. What i mean is that you must understand the +ve and -ve terminals of batteries, live and neutral, plug connection, change over installation etc.
