"is" is used in a sentence when the subject is SINGULAR,
Eg:He is tall
She is fair
"are" is used in a sentence when the subject is PLURAL,
Eg:They are playing football
They enjoyed the movie,etc.
and,
am is used only with I
Eg:I am hungry
Am I correct?,etc.
