--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sweat controls our body temperature. Sweat also is responsible for body odor. When bacteria react with sweat, it produces odor. Similarly pheromones that are emitted by apocrine glands also have an odor. Let us find out how to control excess sweat and control body odor.

Skin care- how sweat produces odor?

Eccrine sweat is produced by eccrine sweat glands that are distributed all over the body. This sweat that is mainly water with very small amount of salt, sugar, urea etc. is odorless. As this sweat appears on the skin surface it softens the epidermal keratin producing smell as a result. Bacteria feed upon the keratin and sweat and produce odor. In other areas of body, such as armpit, the skin is folded and moist and warm. That is the ideal place for bacteria to feed upon sweat and produce odor. Apocrine glands are mainly located around area such as scalp, groin and armpits. They produce fatty sweat with pheromones. Bacteria again break down this sweat and result is bad odor. The excess of sweat and /or bacteria can produce more body odor. The obvious solution to body odor is therefore- reduction or drying of excess sweat as soon as possible and keeping the skin free of bacteria. Here you should note that if you have any yeast infection, that can worsen the odor.

Skin care and control of sweat and odor-

control body odourControl sweat with antiperspirants. If you are having the problem of excess sweating, please consult your doctor who will suggest other methods such as botox injections and other methods. Washing body with antibacterial soap is a good idea. Keep skin dry as much as possible and change clothes that may be been worn while you had sweat because clothes continue to carry sweat producing bacteria until they are washed, Clothes may have dried, but they carry the stench of sweat with them. Please change clothes after any activity that produces sweat. Some foods such as caffinated drinks, garlic, onions may add to sweat smell or excess sweating. Avoid these foods. Control sweat, control bacteria and keep body dry to keep yourself smelling fresh at all the times for better skin care.

FashionWhich Of The 16 Skin Types Are You? by fellybabe(op): 10:37am On Aug 24, 2008
It's time to do away with outmoded definitions of skin type. Limit the field to dry, oily, and combination, for example, and we ignore many crucial factors.

Have you noticed dark spots on your skin after sun exposure or as a cut heals? If you borrow a friend's cleanser, will you end up with irritated skin? Do you eat your veggies? Great skin results from addressing those questions and more, so let's look at the four parameters that really define your skin type:

• Dry (D) vs. Oily (O)
Oily skin appears shiny, and those who have it may prefer gel- or powder-based cosmetic products, as moisturizers feel greasy. Dry skin may appear dull and rough; dry skin types find moisturizer soothing and gravitate toward creamy makeup. Many people assume this parameter is solely affected by oil production, but the condition of your skin barrier - the moisture-retaining outer layer of skin - is equally important.

• Sensitive (S) vs. Resistant (R)
Sensitive skin flushes easily and may become red and irritated at the slightest deviation from its standard routine; it may also be prone to acne and eczema. While resistant skin sounds like an unqualified blessing, people with this type often need to use stronger products to penetrate their skin and achieve the desired effect.

• Pigmented (P) vs. Non-Pigmented (N)
Some people believe that pigmented types are always dark-skinned, which is absolutely not the case. Anyone who experiences unwanted dark spots (melasma, sun spots, or freckles, for example) is a pigmented type - in fact, 21 percent of visits to the dermatologist are for treatment of dark spots.

• Wrinkled (W) vs. Tight (T)
Short of a crystal ball, this parameter is the best indication of how your skin will age, based on both genetic tendencies and lifestyle. You can't do much about your genes, of course, but your daily routine can significantly affect your score on the wrinkled-tight scale: sun exposure, smoking, and poor nutrition, for example, all contribute to skin aging.

Put them together, and you get 16 skin types instead of three or four - a far more realistic picture. (For example, I'm a DSNW, which means that my regimen focuses not only on moisturizing my dry skin, but on preventing irritation and addressing wrinkles.) Join me next time when we'll examine dry vs. oily skin, and put the power to make positive skin care choices back in your hands.

Wishing you great skin!

FashionEyeshadow Tutorial by fellybabe(op): 9:01am On Aug 24, 2008
Several people asked me to do a tutorial of the green Barbie Loves MAC look, well, I attempted one. The look isn't as good as it was the first time I did it :/ So, my apologies on that note, but the technique/application is still the same. I just failed to look at what colors I used before I did it a second time, lol.

Supplies: Golder's Green pigment, Fuchsia pigment, MAC's water-based mixing medium, Pink Papillon eyeshadow, Metamorph eyeshadow, Guacamole eyeshadow, Humid eyeshadow, Nocturnelle eyeshadow, Sketch eyeshadow, black liner, black mascara, Enriched Refined Bronze, Dollymix blush, Plum Foolery blush, Glissade mineralize skinfinish, Pink Opal pigment, Fashionably Fuchsia lipstick, Crystal Rose lipglass, and Already Fab! chromeglass.

Dampen (not wet!) your brush and pick up Golder's Green pigment and apply it all over your lid.

Like so.

Picking up more Golder's Green pigment, apply the pigment to your outer crease.

Bring the brush in a fluid motion further towards your inner lid by brushing upwards and inwards. You want to cover your entire lid as well as your crease with Golder's Green pigment. You can do this by starting at your inner lid and brushing upwards and outwards, the reverse of the previous step.

Like so.

Using the same method as before, only this time with Fuchsia pigment, pick up a small amount of the pigment and gingerly apply it above the Golder's Green applied earlier. We only want a very thin line of pink, so take your time.

You do not need to have a precise line, but something like this will do.

Using your eyeshadow brush, pick up a generous amount of Metamorph eyeshadow and cover the entire portion of Golder's Green pigment on your lid.

Make sweeping motions to help apply, blend, and set with the pigment underneath.

Like so.

Like so x2.

Pick up Guacamole eyeshadow and apply to the outer portion of your lid as pictured.

Add a touch of Humid eyeshadow onto your brush and apply to the very outer edge of the green portion of your lid for more dimension (hard to see here).

Like so.

Picking up some Pink Papillon eyeshadow with your brush, apply over the Fuchsia pigment in the same way you applied the pigment originally, and follow the same "line."

It is best to start on the inside and move towards the outside by making a fluid, sweeping motion that drags the eyeshadow further out.

Like so.

Pick up a bit of Nocturnelle eyeshadow with your eyeshadow brush and apply to crease. Start slightly further inside and move towards the outside.

Hold your brush so that it is horizontal (a small edge, almost like it fits inside your crease) and drag-pull it downwards and outwards.

Make several sweeping returns over the same area and in the same motions to blend the crease color with the rest of the colors.

Like so.

Apply Soft Heart eyeshadow to brow, starting just under the arch and move outwards and downwards, following the line of your brow. Pick up more Soft Heart eyeshadow and apply it underneath the innermost portion of your brow.

Pull Soft Heart eyeshadow to blend with the other colors by picking up more of the color as needed and going slightly over the highest dissimilar color and dragging it upwards to blend out the darker pink color.

Like so.

Now, the look is essentially done, but fix any mistakes or oversights at this point. I darkened the crease with Sketch eyeshadow following the same method as earlier. I also put on a little more Metamorph eyeshadow on the lid.

Like so.

Like so x2.

I'm using a small crease brush to apply Metamorph eyeshadow on my lower lash line. I start on the outer portion and move inwards until I have a thin, solid line.

Like so. Add your choice in black liner and black mascara.

Finished product,

Blue, Pink, and Purple Tut

It's my first tut . I know they aren't the best quality photos, but I tried .

For my eyes I used: Rimmel Eye Twist(the light pink side), Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box(Fishnet, Ransom, and Peace), Prestige e/s in Love, L'oreal HIP e/s in Flare(the pale color for highlight), HIP creme liner in black, eyebrow pencil, lashes, mascara
I've done this same look with different brands of eyeshadow before, you just need a bright blue, a pinky purple, a deeper purple, pink, and a highlight color.

Everything else: CG loose powder, Avon mineral blush in Golden Glow, l'oreal Fairest Nude l/s

Bare face to begin with -bright red lips and all

I save eye makeup for last since it's the most time consuming, so I put on powder, blush, lipstick, and penciled in my brows

Put some loose powder under your eyes if you're worried about fallout. Then put on your primer of choice.

This isn't absolutely necessary, but I find it helpful. Use an eyeshadow crayon/jumbo pencil to draw your desired eyeshadow shape. I do it so that I have a pattern to follow to keep the shape even on both sides. I used the Rimmel Eye Twist for this.

Next, put the blue shade(Peace) on the inner 1/2(or 2/3) of your lid. I usually apply my shadow wet.

Apply Pinky Purple(Fishnet) shadow to the outer lid and in the crease.

Apply both shadows in the same order on the lower lashline-Peace on the inside, Fishnet on the outer part.

Start applying the dark purple(Ransom) at the corner of your bottom lashline. Travel up along the outer edge of your eyeshadow and take it into the crease a tiny bit.

Apply the pink(Prestige Love) along the top of your shadow, but don't go too far up. It's mainly there to help soften the edge of the purple.

Apply highlight and start blending. Only blend at the lines where colors meet-don't blend over everything and wind up with muddy looking color.
Apply liner and mascara afterwards(or falsies in my case)

CareerWhat Is Your Dream Career? by fellybabe(op): 9:13am On Aug 22, 2008
What is it you truly would love to do for your career or work? What do you do at the moment? Are the two the same thing? If not, why not?

Too often, we do jobs and take up careers for the wrong reasons. It pays well, it has high status attached to it, our parents wanted us to do it, It is all we can do, etc etc.

But consider how much of your life, you spend at work? Do you really want to waste it on something you hate doing, or is it a daily chore that gives you no satisfaction whatsoever.

Sometimes it is important to examine what you do for work and ask yourself is it something you really want to do. Is it your dream job? Are you doing it for the right reasons? Maybe your dream vocation is out there, you just havn't thought of it, or been too scared to make the jump.

There is a famous story about a New Zealand boy in this position. He wanted to be a cricketer, for the simple reasons that his cousins were. Every Christmas, birthday etc, all the family would meet and his two cousins would bring out the cricket trophy's they won. He felt envious and left out and was determined to become a famous cricketer. There was only one obstacle, he didn't have the talent, no matter how hard he tried or practised.

After many years growing up trying this, he had a conversation with his mum who suggested that he was trying to be a cricketer for the wrong reasons, and that he should try to be something that he really wanted to do. He tried singing, still no success, so he thought about acting. Acting had appealed to him when he was young, so he would try that.

History will state that Russel Crowe made a good fist of his chosen career as actor, winning an oscar for the role in Gladiator.

Sometimes, your perfect vocation is just around the corner, you just need to know where to look.

powder: pressed or loose; matte, shimmer, frosty, iridescent; blend well

creme: matte and shimmer; great for a wash of color; mix with powder for intensity

liquid: shiny, metallic finish; hardest to use; doesn't blend easily

matte is best for creating natural look; best finish for midtone; contains higher level of color pigment; works well for reshaping/defining eyes

shimmer offers great, sheer coverage; subtle sheen and give hint of sparkle; won't collect in fine lines; ideal for mature skin; works for highlighting recessed areas of eyelids; dark shimmer shadows are great for adding drama without being as harsh as deep-tone mattes

frost gives much more opaque coverage and feature a white or silver sparkle; easily sinks in wrinkles

satin is in between matte and shimmer; shinier than matte, but not as shiny as shimmer; works well on all skin types

i thought this would be a good idea to put down the basics of eyeshadows. you can randomly post in here when you remember a simple, basic technique or any info at all.

hopefully everyone will benefit from this thread

this is what i learned from my favorite makeup book, makeup makeovers by robert jones.

eyeshadow: applied either lightly as a gentle color wash or as a more dramatic layering of color and texture to enhance and add shape to the eyes.

frost: used to describe eyeshadows that have maximum sparkle and super-shine; referred to irridescent; don't use on mature skin because it'll draw attention to fine lines

highlighting: first step in three-color layering technique for the eyes; everything you hightlight comes "toward" you and helps draw attention to specific area

matte: used to describe eyeshadows that have no shine and appear flat

metallic: used to describe eyeshadows that have a shiney, metal finish

midtone: neutral, natural eye color that you sweep across eyelids to help define and shape eyes; should be natural extention of your complexion and is second step in three-color layering technique
