The Federal Government has acknowledged the growing presence of terrorists on social media platforms in recent times. This was just as the government threw down the gauntlet to terrorist groups operating in the country, daring them to engage security forces in direct combat.
Terrorists have increasingly turned to social media platforms, particularly TikTok, to flaunt their activities. In several videos, they have been seen brandishing weapons and displaying large sums of cash.
On Thursday, a suspected terrorist boasting 7,893 followers and 27,700 likes on TikTok shared multiple videos from a forest location. In the videos, he was seen arranging bundles of N1,000 and N500 notes on a mat.
Earlier this year, another terrorist made headlines with a bizarre request in a viral TikTok video, urging Nigerians to share their bank account details.
This was allegedly to reward those who praised their leader, Mohammed Bello Turji Kachalla, during protests against economic hardship across the country.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent on Saturday, the National Coordinator, Counter-Terrorism Centre, Office of the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, revealed that the government was actively working to counter the trend by terrorists.
“Yes, we have noticed it and are taking actions against such trends,” Laka said while responding to a question on whether the centre was aware of the increased usage of social media by terrorists.
Laka dismissed recent threats by terrorist groups as mere propaganda aimed at instilling fear in Nigerians. He urged citizens to remain calm and disregard such statements.
“These threats are part of their propaganda to create fear among the population. Nigerians should disregard them,” he said.
The counter-terrorism centre boss also described terrorists group in the country as cowards, challenging them to a direct combat with the security agents to prove themselves.
“If the terrorists are that bold and equipped, let them inform the security agencies where they are and invite them to a fight. But the truth is they are cowards,” he said. https://punchng.com/fg-tracks-terroristssocial-media-accounts/

Politics › Nigerian Military Airstrikes Kill 28 Terrorists In Niger by femisplash(op): 6:00pm On Nov 25, 2024 |
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch, on Wednesday, eliminated no fewer than 28 terrorists in strikes at Bassa, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. This is contained in a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Kabiru Ali, a captain, on Thursday, in Abuja.
Mr Ali said the operation was targeted at the criminal elements terrorising communities in the local government area. He said the successful air interdiction mission was conducted on 11 September upon receipt of a request for air support from friendly forces in the area. PREMIUM TIMES had reported an early morning invasion of the community by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
According to him, the NAF air assets observed over 100 terrorists engaging friendly forces in a fierce firefight. “After confirming the positions of friendly troops, the NAF conducted precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ positions. “The strikes were devastating, neutralising dozens of terrorists in successive passes.
“As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared,” he said. Mr Ali said the successful operation underscored the NAF’s commitment to protecting the nation and supporting sister services and other security agencies in combating banditry, terrorism, insurgency and all other forms of criminality.
“Nigerians can be assured that NAF will continue to conduct air operations, both independently and in collaboration with surface forces. “This is to eliminate all threats to the peace, prosperity and security of our great nation,” he said.
PREMIUM TIMES reported an early morning invasion of the garrison town of Bassa in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State by terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram on Wednesday. Local sources around the village told PREMIUM TIMES that they had been hearing sporadic gunshots from the axis since 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
In one of the attacks on the town earlier this year, terrorists killed some soldiers, including a captain. The situation led to the withdrawal of troops from the town.
PREMIUM TIMES understands that residents recently returned to Bassa after the government deployed joint security operatives to protect the area.
“When the attack started this morning, the security operatives told residents to stay indoors while they exchanged fire with the assailants,” a source who received a call from Bassa this morning said.
Bassa has come under intense attacks from Boko Haram terrorists camping in the nearby Allawa forest reserve. Many times, bandits crossing into the town through Zamfara’s Kuyambana and Kaduna’s Kamuku forest reserves held the residents hostage — killing, raping, kidnapping and maiming men and women.
Terrorists suffer defeat
The terrorists first invaded Bassa around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, but they were repelled by the joint operatives including local vigilantes and hunters deployed to the community.
Yusuf Dangana, a youth leader from Bassa told PREMIUM TIMES that the security operatives killed 21 terrorists during the first phase of the attack. “The security [operatives] did not suffer any casualty on their side,” Mr Dangana said. “But we lost two of our people.”
Mr Dangana added that the security operatives captured four of the terrorists. Among those killed include Zakaree Adam and a woman, Malawe Ali. They were killed when the terrorists reinforced back to the community. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/733709-nigerian-military-airstrikes-kill-28-terrorists-in-niger.html?tztc=1

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of former Ondo State governor Rotimi Akeredolu has clashed with social media influencer identified as Pastor Okezie.
The influencer, a supporter of President Bola Tinubu, has been critical of Anyanwu-Akeredolu for some time.
However, on Monday, Ondo State’s former first lady accused Pastor Okezie of monitoring her to “brief” his “masters”.
“It’s great that you have turned to a monitoring spirit. Now you gone to my Facebook and then what? Brief your masters? You know say no be today! So relax!” she wrote on X.
“If you are truly Okezie and not ronu moniker, you must be one of those prosperity pastors that drink tea with god. For your information which you’re getting for free, if you are not ronu aborigine, you can never be accepted. Quote me!
“You remember that advert, hope you were born then (you look quite young though aka prosperity tithe collector): ‘If it’s not panadol, it can never be panadol!’ Keep wasting your time. You can try sha and collect some crumbs under the table of managers of ronu republic.”
In reaction, Pastor Okezie shared a video of Anyanwu-Akeredolu lamenting in 2023 after the APC primaries in Imo State.
“Madam former 1st lady, your own people in Imo state rejected you at the polls in 2023 because they don’t want a character like you to represent them,” he wrote, adding that he was not an indigene of Imo.

According to report, the Lukarawa terrorists were invited and accommodated by the locals in 2018 until they became a monster. The major reason terrorism would not breed in Kano is because the residents themselves will lynch any terrorist at sight if they get a sniff of him. The lucky ones were those that were tied down by the community until security agencies come to whisk him away. They don't tolerate terrorism in Kano. Wonder why they are a different breed to other Northern states.
God bless Nigerian Army. |
Politics › Nigerian Army Has Pursued Lakaruwa Terrorists To Niger Republic - Senator Aliero by femisplash(op): 11:47am On Nov 24, 2024 |
Kebbi Central senator Adamu Aliero has commended the Nigerian Army for their fight against insurgency in the North-East and for flushing out terrorist group Lakurawa into Niger Republic.
Mr Aliero, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said troops pursued the terrorists out of the country on Tuesday after Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, and other critical stakeholders intervened.
“Do you know that they were bold enough to hang around and kept threatening the villagers until our military arrived on Tuesday (November 12) and pursued them as they ran into Niger Republic?” Mr Aliero said.
“Our troops can’t go beyond our international boundary. But it is now up to our existing military cooperation with the Nigerien military on stamping out banditry and insurgency to do the rest.”
Mr Aliero said the operation against the terrorists by the army was imperative to prevent what happened in the North-East from replicating in the North-West, which, by then, would be more tragic. “It’s a war that can be finished within five days, and if we allow a repeat of North-East in the North-West, it would be devastating. The North-West has more population and is richer in agricultural land, animal husbandry with rivers for good irrigation, fishing, and other things, so we must secure the area,” said the senator.
Mr Aliero said the development followed recent deadly activities of the terror group in his state. He said this prompted the state’s federal lawmakers to go on a fact-finding mission to the most affected local government areas, Argungu and Augie, last Friday and donated N10 million to families of the deceased.
Expressing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to secure the country, Mr Aleiro appreciated Mr Badaru for handling the insecurity in the areas. He urged security personnel to remain in the affected areas to prevent the terrorists from returning for a reprisal.
“As elected lawmakers, we will continue to work assiduously with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to keep the country safe, secure and stable because insecurity does not recognise race, religion, tribe, tongue or party affiliation. Security is everybody’s responsibility,” he said.
The director of army public relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, did not respond to Peoples Gazette’s calls and messages seeking confirmation and details regarding the senator’s claim. https://gazettengr.com/nigerian-army-has-pursued-lakaruwa-terrorists-to-niger-republic-senator-aliero/

wisepigeon: This not reflected on customs duty, as 1x40ft container is stilling paying a total import duty of 9-11million naira from 5-7million naira it used to be, while 1x20ft container is still at 7million naira. This is why cost of goods in the market is still very high, even as naira is appreciating. So there is no sign of relief at the moment until government take more drastic action to bring down prices. When CBN does it job but other sister agencies are dropping the ball, that's unfortunate. Very sure, they got the memo for the new dollar rate. It is baffling how we hurt ourselves. |

Nigeria is servicing it's debt, if not for stealing in government thise debt are chicken feed to pay back. Owing debts has nothing to do with us selling in naira, as long as we pay them their debts...we are not obliged to keep selling in naira because we are owing.
