Drocks: Hello house, Please, my friend graduated 2015, went for NYSC 2016, traveled the same year to italy and Cameroun precisely Sept and December respectively. Early 2017 he again traveled to Paris and started working in may till date. Now, please house what would be his response to 'why did you travel during service year? The truth ALWAYS helps. You are not meant to travel during service year without permission. Was the travel for emergency purposes or jollification? |

I ended up not using the agent. But if these agents know about places like Wakanow, why are they still in business? My ticket was #300, 000 cheaper than what I would have paid an agent. |

OGreene: You will surely see joor I found a flight through Wakanow. It was surprisingly easy and cheap. In fact it was about 30% cheaper than what agents were quoting for me. I was skeptical at first. I wasn't sure Wakanow was legitimate but it is. |

LagosismyHome: Yeap MPH is funny to me , in the sense that a lot used it as a getway and never really use it to do much so if that is the case , then I don't believe in going to an expensive school for that . I would even find the cheapest school instead
I told 2 friends about 5 years ago when they were going to a top school for it , they never really used the degree for anything but their parents paid so much , in one case it was a getway to get into dental school after naija dental school.. She complained bitterly when she realised what I was trying to tell her after the program because she could easily have gone to the cheapest mph school in the US and save that money for her dental 2 year program . A friend of mine turned down an offer of a full scholarship from Boston University to attend the Harvard MPH with no scholarship. She even had to take on a loan. Afterwards she did the boards and is now a practicing doctor in the US. I advised her to go for Boston over Harvard but the brand name of Harvard had entered her head too much. So now she has all that debt on her head and she is not using the degree for anything. |

Devuchka: Yes ooo very short no long questions about the school or MPH Given the profile of your school, I'm not surprised they didn't bother asking why school XYZ and why an MPH. An MPH was always a funny degree to me. Nigerians seemed to use it as a gateway to practicing medicine in the US. |

That's such an easy interview you had. First your school helped a lot. Are you going for a Masters? Like you said, preparation is key. Have all your papers to back up whatever you want to claim. In my interview, they rejected the guy right ahead of me. I was angry at him that why would he go and start spoiling the show. Congrats again. It's a great feeling. |

Thanks for ur time Don't be so fixated on your grade for now. Focus on the GRE. I would also Google school rankings for media and telecoms or whatever field you want to go into. Thanks in advance
Lagosismyhome, walspring, Fenix, afonjaboston, texrem...... your candid advices are needed for the dream to come to past Hi! What course are you aiming for? The US is different from the UK in that your low undergrad grade can be overcome with a fantastic GRE score, great letters of recommendation and a great statement of purpose. I would say take the GRE. Based on your score, you can then filter and apply to schools that fit your profile. |

Femmyfes: please share your testimony.... Am interested in it Well... I've shared it several times on this forum. But I'll give you an abridged version. Went for my F-1 visa interview August 11 and I was extremely nervous. My heart was almost jumping out of my chest as I got nearer and nearer to the interview window. I was nervous because 9 years ago I was under a work visa in the U.S. However I lost my job and overstayed in the U.S by about 6 months. I was very worried that this would be a real problem. I get to the interview window and the lady takes my passport and I-20. She looks at my I-20 and asks me what I am here for. I tell her I am applying for a visa to study at my university. She asks me to explain how it will be financed and I explain to her that, as shown on the i-20, it is partly funded via scholarships. She looks confused and I ask her if she would like me to give her a breakdown of the financial aid which was provided by my school. She gives me permission and I hand it over to her. She looks at it and types away for a while. She asks me who will fund the rest. I tell her my mom. She nods and types away. She then asks me that she noticed I had an H1b visa but my passport doesn't have the stamp. I explain that I never bothered leaving the country to have the visa stamped. She still looks confused and I ask her if she would like to see my other passports. She says she would and I hand them to her. She looks through, types for a while again. She then hands over my i-20 and old passports and tells me that she is going to hold on to my current passport while she verifies a few things. She hands me the white sheet and tells me I am in administrative processing. I am confused and ask how long. She says a week or less. I as her if there is any additional thing she would like me to explain. She says no and says that I will be contacted. I leave the embassy with mixed feelings. For the next 3 days I keep checking my status and it just says AP. I check again yesterday and it says "Issued". I quickly Google what that means and on the webpage of the U.S embassy, it says it means the visa has been approved. I am ecstatic. Today I get an email that the passport has been mailed and is ready to be picked up. I am further ecstatic. The End. |

For those seeking information about one school or the other, here is what I have to beg you to do... Google!
Many people want to be spoon fed everything but you really are not doing yourself a favor if you don't do your search. When you've done a thorough search and review of the schools you want to attend, questions asked by the visa officers such as "Why did you pick this school" or "What makes this school special" or "How did you find out about this school" will not be challenging in anyway. After doing a thorough search, you'll be able to comfortably talk about why you want to study your chosen course and why you chose the school you chose.
Of course people here can help, but you must do the bulk of the work for yourself or you'll go to the embassy ill prepared and bomb the interview.
God bless! |

Emmyirab: Okay Thanks a lot bro Reapplying .. LagosismyHome: Please calm down before reapplying..... perseverance is good but u have to strike the balance between that and maybe waiting a while so you dont dash the embassy your hard earned money.
Only you can make that call but if you already gone twice recently .... think first on what the best approach I agree. I also would take a pause before reapplying. First, you've spent a LOT of money already...128k for two applications that were denied. Second, maybe it is just me but I feel as if, if they wanted to give you that visa, they would have given you. The fact that they kept asking you why schools in the mid-west and now why this school over other schools. It makes me believe they are not convinced of your application. Although I'm surprised because BYU is a solid enough school. Please think carefully. Perhaps you can defer to spring if possible. |

herrlicher: Naxo I c am oo!!! When were u interviewed? And were u mailed for some security questions or told to submit any additional document? cos i was told to do all that on 3rd august that was 2 days after my interview. When is your school resuming? And finally, how many business days did it take? Would apr8 those responses alot. Okay so here's the thing... Administrative processing is not the same for everyone and there are a variety of situations that can trigger your application being put in AP. My situation is very different from yours. 9 years ago I used to work in the US under a work visa. I was interviewed on the 11th of August. After the interview, I was told that I would have to undergo further AP. On the 16th I checked my status and saw that the visa had been issued. I was placed in AP so they could verify that I had indeed been under a work visa. What questions were you asked, if you don't mind me asking? |

Thanks for your responses. My brother, you will have to be patient o. Administrative processing is a fancy term for security checks. The fact that your bank statements were collected is interesting. Perhaps they want to verify the authenticity of the statement. Either way, you will have to be patient. There is nothing you can do to expedite the process. I wish you all the best! |
