Google has made several significant contributions to the mobile ecosystem during the last decade. Android, which began as a small project has morphed into what is now the most used mobile operating system of our time. Recently, it has emerged that Google is working on its third OS after Android and Chrome OS, called Fuchsia. Google Fuchsia is a universal OS and runs on desktops, tablets, and smartphones. It is a real-time, open source operating system and is based on Google’s own kernel Magenta. The new OS appeared briefly in August last year, before disappearing into oblivion. However, recent activity on Google Fuchsia has re-surfaced bringing along all sorts of speculation about Google’s intentions with the OS. What exactly is Google Fuchsia? As mentioned earlier, Google Fuchsia is a Real Time OS, unlike Android which is a normal OS. So, how are they different? A Real Time OS has a different communication approach when compared to the normal OS. As the name signifies Real-time OS is used in applications/devices that require a response/result immediately. These operating systems are used for specialized applications that demand responses that are as close to real time as possible. The two operating systems chiefly differ in how they approach a task. A normal OS would focus on doing the maximum computation in the shortest period of time, whereas the Real Time OS focuses on the shortest response time. Normal operating systems use a time-sharing architecture to be able to multi-task. A Real Time OS is used in specialized fields where response time is extremely critical. Introduction of a new Kernel Google Fuchsia is based on Google’s own microkernel called Magenta, which is different from Android and Chrome OS which are based on Linux. This is significant because it seems that Google might be ditching the Linux kernel for good. The Linux kernel has posed its own set of difficulties to Google; uneven updates and security issues. This step definitely frees Google from dependencies on third party apps and the huge challenges between it and Oracle. Hence, this can be viewed as a step towards making Google self-reliant and manage all the development in-house. Google Fuchsia is designed to work on modern phones and computers and does not require a large amount of RAM to run. Google has released no official statement as to the purpose of Fuchsia and why a new OS is necessary, especially with the success of Android in the world of mobile devices which has led to a lot of speculations about Fuchsia. With no official line from Google, Android forums online are buzzing with theories. Is Google attempting to rebuild an enhanced OS instead of patching up Android? Google has received flak for Android’s performance and stability in the past. Are they starting over, instead of creating quick fixes? Or is Google is simply trying to make things more synchronized and manageable through all their platforms? Google Fuchsia developer Travis Geiselbrecht said officially Fuchsia “isn’t a toy thing, it’s not a 20% project, it’s not a dumping ground of a dead thing that we don’t care about anymore.” His statement leads us to believe that Fuschia might be in for the long haul, and maybe emerge as the worthy successor to Android. This is one thing in which Apple definitely has an advantage with a tight knit ecosystem. Google might be trying to fill in that major gap. Conclusion Without an official line from Google, it is difficult to conclude anything. Google is a progressive company, always looking for ways to improve technology and create new products. But would Google let go of the progress it has made with Android over a decade? A new OS based on Google’s own kernel will give the company the freedom and leverage to build products that they believe in without having to succumb to the limitations of third party software. The possibilities for the Fuchsia OS are limitless and currently completely unpredictable. We’ll just have to wait and watch. Where do you think this is headed? They piggyback on apps and you won’t even know you have downloaded malware till you start to see the ominous signs. It is important to download apps only from Play Store for your safety. Make sure the apps are rated well, and read reviews before downloading. If you see unfamiliar apps that you haven’t downloaded, uninstall them immediately. 8. The Internet connects on its own: Viruses and other malware use your phone’s data to spread its message. If you see that your phone is mysteriously switching your Wi-Fi and data connections on without your intervention, it could be due to malware. These programs can override your preferences and connect to the internet on their own. If you see unusual internet activity, scan your phone for viruses and clean using an anti-virus program How can I keep my phone safe from viruses and malware? There are many preventive steps to keep your phone free and safe from any of these Android virus symptoms. While most adware and viruses are easy to remove, there are some complex malicious bugs like spyware that are not as simple to eliminate. So it is always important to be safe and take preventive measures, rather than remedial measures. 1. Download apps only from Google Play Store. Every time you download an app, check the ratings and reviews first. If it has a low rating and a low number of downloads, it is best to avoid that app. 2. Do not download apps from third-party sources. The best way to make sure this is to turn off this function on your Android phone. Go to Settings on your phone and open up the Security section. Here, make sure Unknown Sources is disabled to avoid installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store. 3. Do not click on pop-ads while browsing the internet. While most of these pop-up ads lead to advertisements and websites, some pop-ups force you to install malware on your device. 4. Do not click on strange, unverified links in unknown emails, texts, and WhatsApp messages. Strange links from friends and contacts should be avoided too unless you have verified it to be safe. 5. Keep your operating system updated and take frequent backups. 6. Install a good antivirus security app, especially one that scans every app for malicious content before installing. These steps will help you fight any Android virus symptoms you may encounter. What should I do if my phone has been infected by a virus? 1. Put your phone in airplane mode so the malicious apps cannot send or receive data. Check your recently installed apps, battery activity and data activity to zero in on the malicious app. Check the app reviews on Play Store to confirm that it is the cause of infection. Uninstall the app immediately. 2. Do a factory reset; reloading the software sometimes can get rid of the malicious code. 3. Install a good antivirus program to scan and identify the virus before deleting it. Final Thoughts The usage and complexity of smartphones have increased exponentially over the past years. This has unfortunately spawned a large number of malicious bugs and viruses that take advantage of vulnerabilities in your smartphone. By following these safe practices, and detecting these Android virus symptoms early, you can keep your phone safe from such malicious attacks.

Hi friend, thanks for asking this critical question. The way I see it, sincerely Nigerian Universities are not that OK with the practical aspect of Engineering generally unless you are looking forward to applying to a private university which is quite balance in both theory and practical. My advice, find ur niche ie where do u want to major in. Is it website design, programming etc? Now I need you to ask someone in the proposed school to help u to get the students handbook of the two departments, compare and contrast the syllabus yourself so as to make the right decision of the course u want to eventually go for. |

I think say na only me get bitter experience. When I bought Innjoo fire I thought I got a new phone(that was in Akure via Jumia), three days later I noticed a broken glass towards the notification indicator. I continued to use the phone until a fateful day loo and behold the touch pad ain't working again as a result of that I can't type with my phone in the portrait view I can only do that while on landscape. I endured till I got back to Lagos, searched for their customer care number and put a call through. Thinking that since the phone is still three months old, theres a warranty on the phone. On getting to their office, I heard the most irritating thing I have ever heard... The warranty only covers software issues.... Jeez.... OK I have a software issue as per the touch pad ain't working. Then the lady I have to change it with the glass, that they both come together that emmmmm the warranty doesn't work because of just a little Crack. That was how I paid #6500 ooo for phone wey I buy 18000. Battery problem... .. Hmmmmm.... Like I really suffered when the same phone started to develop battery prob. Called their customer care, they were like it was gonna be available in the next 2 weeks that they will call me. Naso I call back after 2 weeks they said it's available, on getting to their office naso the lady dey tell me stories that touch.... 'it's already out of stock' ... . Like wtf after I called you guys and wasting money and time again. Nawa 4 una ooo. I just vex go Computer village go build battery for the phone. Imagine u dey use phone wey b desktop, na my power bank dey help. Naso the charging point too con develop hin own fault. I had to go down to their office again, I was told normal repairs 1000 so because I dey in a rush I have to pay 1500. Shey I get any Choice?? I just had to pay and hope I never step my foot in that office again. I can't even advice anyone in this world to go for their products. It's really really a bad investment. Even the phone I changed its screen has developed the same problem again as I am typing all these without the a scratch on the glass the touch pad ain't working. It's so so annoying. |
