Mank1234 is on point on all counts.

You either identify and fix or replace the one bad battery in your bank or you buy a balancer.

The Victron battery balancer is probably the best name brand out there but by jove is it pricey! grin. You are looking at 70pounds (35thousand naira) apiece and you will need 3 pieces for a 48v bank and I do hate the wiring complexity it brings.

Find it here on Amazon UK

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01DH6B2D2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516366319&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=victron+battery+balancer&dpPl=1&dpID=51uMlarppnL&ref=plSrch

3 pieces Victron balancer is already the cost of a new 12v 200ah battery so you choose...

If you were a betting man I would ask you to go with the ZHC version on Amazon US

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s?k=zhc+battery+balancer

You need only one unit for a 48v system and it is much simpler to wire and nothing much to lose at around 70USD total landed cost.

See the link below for youtube reviews of the ZHC from offgriders so you can gain some confidence grin

I have been in bad battery scenarios both for myself and for clients a few times so I know how it feels.

All the best bro and hope to hear that you are all good in a few weeks
Thank you very much for your contribution Mr Niyi,
I have been eyeing that chinese balancer for a while,
Just wondering if anyone has had some experience with them,
So far so good the only known issue is the low pitch noise it produce after a while.

I have also seen those videos and many others that shows the stuff really works even with different battery age and size.

Cheers!
Regards!!

You should be worried if the difference in the voltages is more than 0.3V.
You may not notice the effect now. One battery is overcharging while the other is undercharging. Overtime, one of the batteries will fail. The higher your charging current the faster this will happen, especially, if your setup doesn't equalize in more than a month.

It happen to me once. While one battery was very strong, a cell in the one that was undercharging died. Before then during equalization stage when voltage to both batteries was 28.8V, one used to read like 16.2 while the other read like 12.6.

You'll also get a slightly better AH from a well balanced battery bank than from one that is out of balance.

Get Victron battery balancer.
Thank you very much for your insight,
Same unbalanced state is where i find my batteries currently,
Do you know where I could get the battery balancer and at what rate did you also get yours?
My System is 48v

Thank you in advance

NiyiOmoIyunade:
You are welcome Sir.

How large is the voltage difference between the batteries? if one is reading say 13.1v and the other 13.0v when fully charged and when discharged to your DoD cutoff point e g 50% discharge, you have one reading 12.2v and the other 12.1v under load, then there is obviously some capacity or State of Charge difference but you really shouldn't be bothered.

In my experience, one may never get battery voltage to converge exactly despite all measures taken.

You should only be worried if say for example one battery reads 12.2v and the other 11.5v under load at around the 50% discharge point - that kind of voltage difference is the only one worth bothering over.
At float,
Three batteries reads 13.3v while the last one reads 14.1v.
At DoD is quite the same,
I have tried manually balancing like a said before by charging them individually to full. But after a while it becomes unbalanced after few usage!!

NiyiOmoIyunade:
I tried the Su-Kam 24v version once and sorry to say they did nothing to balance my battery voltage.

Victron has a balancer which has good reviews but I am discouraged by the wiring complexity required to install them especially in a 48v battery bank or if you use a 6v in series battery setup. The victron battery balancer is also pretty pricey in my opinion. I posted a link below as a starting point...

https://www.victronenergy.com/batteries/battery-balancer

Here is another bonus link for a battery balancer of unknown provenance which I am by no means recommending

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s?k=zhc+battery+balancer

If one battery in your bank tests consistently lower than the others in voltage, you might want to isolate it and charge it properly and if the chemistry permits do an equalization then put it back in service together with the good batteries after all of them are fully charged.
Thank you very much for your time in replying,
Actually,
I have fully charge them individually to balance them before putting them in a pack,
One of the battery seems to have a higher voltage during float charge.

Thank you very much bigrovar, makavele, kiekie1 for you input, I am indeed grateful.

But about the inverter issue?
Is it going to be of great concern?
I noticed when it displays "fully charged" it doesn't send much current to the batteries. I believe this to be the float stage.

But the inverter doesn't count the way it should when it was still new?
Would this new development affect the battery charge performance?
My inverter is a safepower 3.5KVA 48v sine wave inverter that is close to 2 year and also a period of 6 month dormancy after the first year!

Special thanks to bigrovar for being thorough on my battery.

That battery is being over charged to the point of gassing which is forcing it to lose water (never good for AGM as water lost can't be replaced) get a multi meter and check the battery voltage when it is charging. What is the name of your inverter
Its a safepower 3.5kva 48v inverter sir

Feshizzy:
Good Day Everyone,
I do have a safepower 3.5kva 48v inverter for 2 year+
But I noticed an issue with it,
Before now, while charging;
It's indicates it current bar then continue upwards,
In the sense that, if it was remaining 2 bars before (2/4),
When it starts charging it goes from 2/4, 3/4 4/4 back to 2/4 in that circle till it gain a bar and so on it gets full,
But of recent after getting some new batteries,
For a while now I noticed it doesn't operates in such fashion anymore, now it starts from 0/4 to 4/4 ( even if it was remaining 3/4 bar before) circle till it shows "fully charged" and by then the batteries are literally hissing.

Please is this normal from anyone experience?
Or has the charging algorithm gone bad? If so, is it fixable? Has anyone else had such issue with their inverter and noticed any form of overcharging?

I do appreciate and await a response.

battery hissing indicates overcharge n gassing
inverter charging algorith has failed and is now overcharging battery
or somebody tampered with the charge settings or profile or you got a different class of battery
one of these options is the answer
Thank you kind sir for you swift response,
Batteries are AGM and the inverter have it settings to the letter, the current charge has 3 profile, low/medium/high and it is on the medium setting.
Forgive my ignorance,
But has there been known cases of inverter having failed algorithm and fixed?

My brother, to learn forex trading as a newbie is not that easy even with babypips. He needs a teacher and a successful mentor definitely. I remember my first forex learning experience, everything was like rocket science even with a teacher that I paid 30k. Lets tell ourselves the truth. Forex trading is simple but it is one of the most difficult job in the world. There is a high chance he will lose his first trading capital. I lost $1000 personally when I started trading in 2007 . 0.8 x 12v x 18Ah = 172.8 20watts + 15watts = 35watts
172.8/35 = 4.937
it should getting nothing less than 4h 30mins
Just to add a little cheery on top! Taking the 18ah all out from a battery isn't even possible, As those are mostly brand figure, True figures ranges from 70% to 90% of the brand rating !

MY experience thus far on this local inverter has been a mixed grill. Before I stumbled on this thread, I had fallen into the hands of a marketer I met on Jiji who sold me a 500w solar generator which turned out to be made up of a 100ah battery, a 500w power inverter, 240w solar panels, 30ah charge controller. The battery and power inverter were packaged in a box and labelled made in China. Unfortunately, the power inverter kept giving problems until I had to bring out my old UPS (i have several of them). The first UPS did not last 24 hours as it overheated (I did not install a fan) so the heat destroyed the Mercury UPS. Nest I coupled a bluegate UPS But this time, I tried installing a fan on it. Unfortunately, the fan went up in flames as soon as I switched on the UPS. I extracted a fan from my old Desktop power pack and tool the UPS to an electronics engineer to have it installed. Unfortunately, it also went up in flames as soon as it was connected to the battery. I am however not deterred. I simply got my 30w rechargeable fan to become a body guard for the UPS until I source a bigger and stronger fan. Any one who knows where I can get a rugged fan f0or the UPS should please holla me.
And by nthe way, the overheating is not due to any overload. I use my soalr inverter set up solely for bulbs. Total number of bulbs and two rechargeable fans used at one given time do not exceed 100w.

Meanwhile I have an old innova inverter which I bought in 2010. I've sent it to a tech for servicing. I plan to replaced the UPS with this inverter. What do you folks think?
I believe your fan is not connected correctly,
You need to understand the volts of the fan.
And be sure it matches the power source else it blows up.

Cheers!
