Doppler ultrasound

Anomaly scan is a detailed scan during which each part of the baby’s body is examined to check development and exclude structural abnormalities, which can be performed between 18-24weeks of pregnancy.

Anomaly scan are important because they provide the best opportunity to examine all the anatomy of your baby in great detail.

BEST WAY TO KNOW IF YOUR BABY IS FINE
Umbilical artery Doppler was shown to have 100% specificity for predicting foetal outcome, See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23457860 . What this means is that once the Doppler scan of your babies umbilical artery shows that blood is flowing to your baby, it means that in all of such cases the baby will be okay.
So, if your baby is not kicking fine, or you have any illness that you think might have affected your baby, or the doctor/nurse says your baby is not growing well etc, go straight for umbilical artery doppler ultrasound.

If this is your first pregnancy, you may not feel your baby move until closer to 25 weeks. By the second pregnancy, some women start to feel movements as early as 13 weeks.

If any abnormalities are detected, the significance of the findings will be discussed with you on the day and detailed report will be given.
